A word from Gladstones Malibu
In a world where landmarks are few and far between there is Gladstones. Situated where Sunset Boulevard meets the Pacific Coast Highway, it's become a place of Southern California legend. Gladstones offers a menu plucked from the very ocean it overlooks, serving modern renditions of classic dishes. In its typically relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere, there's something to satisfy every palate. Whether you're at the raw bar, the lounge, the dining rooms or the grand patio over-looking the surf, it's commonly agreed there's no better place, either up the coast or down, to enjoy fresh seafood, a Mai Tai or a sunset. Gladstones has been named an "Editor's Pick" in Sunset Magazine, one of Gayot.com's "Top 10 Outdoor Dining Restaurants" in L.A. and one of CBS Los Angeles's "Best Seafood" restaurants.

  • "Since I've been to Gladstones. We sat on the little side patio right over the sand and the food and service was fantastic."

  • "Been to Gladstones before and after thw new renovations and was very impressed by the new look but was very turned off by the over priced, medicore fare. Not much in the way of creativity. Kid size fish n chips were a deal compared to the adult portion at 3x the price. Probably will not be back anytime soon."

  • "We arrived a little early and went to the bar. Hugh came over with a big smile and recommendations. The clams were amazing - especially the broth - and we used the bread to clean it all up. Hugh's suggestion for the Hess Chardonnay was a good pairing. Once seated, our waitress was very nice but seemed very overwhelmed. Drinks were slow and had to be asked for multiple times. We ordered the clambake and that was tasty and a lot of fun. Expect to get dirty; you work for your meal on this one. Slow service, like not getting crab utensils until asked for twice, was the only negative. It was an over two hour meal but we used that time to enjoy the ocean. Very good food. Excellent views. Friendly staff. A fun time and we will be back."

  • "The food is over priced and mediocre. The service is terrible despite plenty of staff. No wonder ---why should they pay attention to our table of 6? They have an automatic service charge of 20% on groups of 6 or more. It was my husbands birthday and I noted it on the reservation with request for window table. I arrived 5 minutes later than rest of the party And they'd been seated no where near the window in mostly empty restaurant. Reasonable service until they put our dinner plates on the table. Then we were an immediate after thought. Asked to order dessert and waiter disappeared for 10 minutes. Couldn't get water refills, coffee refills, finished plates and cocktail glasses were not cleared. Waiter was nice, terrible team work."

  • "HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR ANYONE, ANYTIME :) I love Gladstones. Great view, great food, and fit for any occasion. I go here probably every month, more if I lived closer. The calamari is especially great as well as their cajun ahi tuna sandwich."

  • "My first dinner at Gladstone's, and I was NOT disappointed. The New England Chowder that the waitress spoke so highly of had plenty of clams and was nicely creamy. Some chunks of potatoes and more spice and it might have lived up to the "best chowder" billing she gave it. Not the best, but certainly good. The Salmon fish tacos, on the other hand, were amazing. Wonderfully tasty, properly cooked chunks of salmon, over-stuffing three sets of corn tortillas, with a mango salsa that was out of this world! A pint of Newcastle from their taps was the perfect accompaniment for a warm spring evening spent overlooking the Pacific right on the Malibu shore. Yeah, it's a bit expensive, but considering the location and the quality, well worth it"

  • "The food was poor quality and the service was horrible."

  • "Had reservations . When arrived said over an hour wait for outside but could seat inside. As we didn't want to wait an hour we took only inside seat available in a not desirable location. In essence reservation was useless. Food just fair so would not return."

  • "Food was ok for the price our service was slow he forgot one of our appetizers and was very rarely seen when we need a refill and took over 30 minutes before we even placed our order. The cocktails all tasted like soap I sent by drink back and tried 3 different ones before giving up and just asked for a water the chocolate cake for desert was dry but the scenery is beautiful and must say to request an outside table versus an inside table."

  • "What a great setting on the shore in Malibu. The sunset provided the best ambiance for our family dinner. Gladstones is a true California experience!!"

  • "We made a reservation for Wednesday at 3pm in April and had no problem getting a window booth inside. It was a blustery day which made it fun to watch the birds diving for food and the parasurfers fight the waves. Food was very good, cooked properly and delivered promptly. Server was attentive. Only complaint is that you have to pay for parking on top of the $$$$ prices for the food (even if you self park)."

  • "I love Gladstones and have been going there for 40 years since I was a tween. Hadn't been in 3 years. They dramatically changed the menu and the food was very average. No crab cobb salad. An old favorite."

  • "It was an enchanting evening and what a special occasion it was as we celebrated my partner's birthday. This restaurant not only boasts a wonderful seafood menu, but the view of the ocean and coastline is just amazing. If you go, make sure you book your reservations one hour before sunset. You will not regretted. Oh, and reserve a booth by the window."

  • "Our waiter was non existent for most of our lunch. The food was OK, but the view was excellent. The cost of the food was ridiculously high. I would not go back."

  • "We've enjoyed the food and location of this restaurant on many occasions and frequently recommend it to friend. However, our last experience was a total disaster due to our waiter having his "first night". That's not his fault but the fault of management for failing to adequately train him for his job. He didn't even know how to pour wine; i.e., failed to pour a sample for tasting before pouring the wine. He also failed to address the ladies first for their orders and for serving. Everything was late, and had to asked for on more than one occasion. He was genuinely nice and apologetic, but it didn't salvage the dinner."

  • "A wonderful place! I am a local and I take all of me out of town guests there in addition to my business clients. They recently changed the menu and the food is off the charts great!"

  • "Nice place, nice location, great view. Food just OK and a bit overpriced. Not rushing back unless its to drink beer on the patio, which I think would be awesome."

  • "Our family always takes out-of-towners to Gladstone's for the view (of course!) and the delicious food. The employees make the experience fun, too. The 'Foil Guy' who wraps the take-home food is so creative! No one leaves Gladstone's without being impressed by the experience."

  • "Our waitress was very attentive and very kind. We had a group of 10 people. The food was good. We came to commemorate the one year anniversary of our mother's passing. We were hoping for a sunset - and we got one! Gladstones was a favorite spot for our mom and my family came down from Santa Barbara, Ventura, over from Northridge and Simi Valley and up from Glendale and Burbank. Of all the places we could have gone, we decided Gladstones would be the place, and you didn't let us down. Thank you!"

  • "I will always return to Gladstone's in Malibu, it's an absolute must if you are visiting. If I lived here or when I do I will be a regular visitor! The setting, the food and the atmosphere is bliss. Never disappoints - staff are great. My friend loved it and this was her first visit. See you soon!"

  • "Been coming here when possible for many years and it just seems to be slipping quietly down hill in food quality - maybe a Monday night is not a fair test but had expected better. the staff was delightful except for the bartender who seemed to be in a bad mood!"

  • "This weekend my bf invited me to join his family for a birthday celebration at Gladstone's. I hadn't been in years! PROS: Parking was easy/valet is on top of it. The location is beautiful and the patio offers a great dining environment. Our server was attentive and friendly. The crab cake appetizer was tasty. The chocolate cake that came to the table for our birthday guest was huge (and delicious). CONS: Even with a reservation, our table took 20 mins after we received the text message that told us our table was ready. The food is pricey adding shrimp to my Caesar salad cost $12 (bringing my salad to $25) and there were only 4 shrimp on my plate (WHAT??). Overall our dining experience was good, but I'm not sure I'd pay the prices again."

  • "I took my parents here for lunch and we had a great time... Between the delicious, crispy fish n chips, the killa dragon berry mojitos, the wonderful service and amazing view I'd say this place is a winner... We can't wait to go back!"

  • "The Good: Wonderful Mango Salmon Tacos. Warm, friendly service and a terrific view of the beach and waves. Plus, we were seated on time. The Not-So-Good: Prices are high. The three tacos were $22. While the two house wines, chardonnay and merlot, are $8 a glass, most of the wines by the glass are in double-digits. I used to come to Gladstone's all the time but I hadn't been there in a few years. On this return visit, I was so disappointed in the menu. There used to be lots of fin-fish such as grilled sea bass or swordfish. Now the menu is mostly shellfish, of which I am not a fan. I felt lucky to find the salmon tacos on the menu."

  • "Went for dinner with my family and enjoyed excellent food and service with an equally excellent view. Highly recommend the flatbread pizza, mango fish tacos, cajun ahi sandwich, and you can't go wrong with any of the desserts!"

  • "We recently went here twice (!) In the evening, inside, the noise level is almost unbearable. Scream to be heard. What do you expect when you have concrete floors, no carpet, and one big room. (Note to management--subdividing rooms is a really good thing for noise level and for intimacy). Outside for lunch, there was nice sun, sound, wind--and no screaming."

  • "Lester is awesome and knows the menu like the back of his hand. Great guy made my mother a whale to take her food home in. He was training a new guy that I can see is going to be awesome as well. Awesome view fast service."

  • "Try pomegranate marguerita and the tuna is delicious. Kids get their food wrapped in foil inthe shape of sea animals! So cute!"

  • "Gladstone's is a wonderful place to end a day soaking in So Cal. The views are unbeatable. Great selection of seafood. We valeted and that took longer than anything else the whole evening. The lot serves the restaurant and the beach so it is very busy. We were seated immediately but only after waiting 10 minutes in line to get to the hostess stand. Service was a bit slow but very cheerful and that suited us perfectly as we were not in a hurry. We were seated in the back room which was noisy but much quieter than the outdoor area and the front room. Food and wine were 7 out of 10."

  • "Super friendly staff who make everyone feel special with personal attention by all servers. The new menu is great! There are fewer selections, but the quality of food and preparation is excellent! The parking operation is like clockwork and is very convenient and fast. And there is no other restaurant with this ocean view in the area."

  • "The breakfast menu is limited, but the offerings were delicious. I'll go for lunch next time. All of the service staff were friendly, professional and surprisingly accommodating. Management allows them to say yes. Try to book Alejandro's station. He was great!"

  • "We went to Gladstones after many years and found the food and service as good as ever. However, the number of menu items was cut substantially, and for a "seafood" restaurant, the number off fresh fish items was very lacking. I counted only three fresh fish entrees and two or three shellfish entrees. All of my companions enjoyed the food, but also felt that the menu should be expanded."
    Dined on 3/15/2014
  • "Pretty location, our food was pretty good. Had the fish tacos and the tortillas were dripping oil so that was not pleasant but the fish inside was tasty. My guests had grilled fish and said it was really good, the brocoliniwas tasty. The service was so so we were there on a slow night so maybe they let some servers go early, but he was pretty scarce and aware of it."

  • "perfection was the subject matter, excellent food was the enjoyment. everything from valet to desert was absolutely super! the ocean was so clean and clear, the wind bouncing from the shoreline to the cascaded lite lights was breathtaking. I could not have made a better choice for a night in malibu glad stones."

  • "I remember eating at Gladstones back in the 80's and thought that it might be a bit tired after all these years, but we were blown away by the views, the service, the food and the overall experience. We sat in the patio, right by the glass and enjoyed the views of Malibu and watched an incredible sunset. The food was spectacular...we especially enjoyed the Shrimp Curry and the Spiced Crusted Tuna - would highly recommend both."

  • "Even though the setting is lovely, the seafood at this restaurant is far from stellar. Our service was wonderful, but it did not make up for the culinary shortcomings."
    Dined on 3/11/2014
  • "Easy to get to, easy parking, big open views and spaces. Good service, fun. Food is fresh and healthy. A little more expensive that expected."

  • "(1) The parking system is convoluted and frenetic. (2) We made reservations 2 wks in advance-for 5 PM on a Sat.-but we weren't seated until 5:50 PM. (3) We asked in advance for a table with a view because we had a special person with us who is in a wheelchair. They tried to seat our party of 7 adults at 2 different tables. Ridiculous! We ended up with a regular table with no view. (4) Margaritas were ordered and promptly sent back because they tasted awful! Basic alcoholic drinks cost $14each! Ridiculous! (5) All 7 of us ordered different entrees -- and NO ONE LIKED THEIR FOOD! The food is definitely not worth the money!!! With only 1 drink/person, 3 appetizers, and 7 entrees -- it cost $75/person !!! Great waiter, but WE'RE NOT RETURNING!"
