A word from Gladstones Malibu
In a world where landmarks are few and far between there is Gladstones. Situated where Sunset Boulevard meets the Pacific Coast Highway, it's become a place of Southern California legend. Gladstones offers a menu plucked from the very ocean it overlooks, serving modern renditions of classic dishes. In its typically relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere, there's something to satisfy every palate. Whether you're at the raw bar, the lounge, the dining rooms or the grand patio over-looking the surf, it's commonly agreed there's no better place, either up the coast or down, to enjoy fresh seafood, a Mai Tai or a sunset. Gladstones has been named an "Editor's Pick" in Sunset Magazine, one of Gayot.com's "Top 10 Outdoor Dining Restaurants" in L.A. and one of CBS Los Angeles's "Best Seafood" restaurants. Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Have been going to Gladstones for over 35 years. It is still fun. Wait staff very attentive and our food was yummy. I had steamers. Very garlic broth. Great for dipping bread and slurping. Kids split the fish and chips. Was a big kids portion. Their fish was crispy and even my picky eater enjoyed it. Try to reserve a.Window booth. Was great watching the sunset. Recommend spenfing the afternoon at the beach and then come up for dinner."

  • "I hadn't been to Gladstones in several years and was glad to see the large umbrellas outside to protect diners from the seagulls. They also added an outdoor living room cocktail area. We had appetizers and drinks (mojitos and margaritas--perfect) with some spicy tempura shrimp (ok) and yummy steamed clams. We stayed outside but moved to the ocean view tables for clam chowder and scallops. Both were incredibly good. We wanted some souvenirs for my niece's kids but they're out of everything...a new management company has taken over, an entirely new branding campaign is in the works and the restaurant is going to get that facelift in the next few months. The new manager was extremely helpful. So go in now and later to see the differences!"

  • "The place changed over last few years, I used to go there very often and I remember it as great food, great view, great people and great atmosphere. Now food is good, view and people are still great, atmosphere is different - to noisy and overcrowded - not suited for special occasion anymore."

  • "I read many reviews online and was kind of nervous as to how it was going to be. I am not sure if it was luck, but we got seated immediately at a table on the patio directly overlooking the beach, ocean, and the setting sun. The food was good overall and the Tuna steak that I had tasted excellent, it was cooked and flavored perfectly. If you go there for dinner make sure to request your leftovers to be wrapped regardless if you are going to eat them. You will have to request a specific server and most likely have to wait for him to come over, but it is well worth it. With gold colored aluminum foil he creates pieces of art in the matter of moments. Overall it was a superb time, I will definitely be going back the next time I am in the area."

  • "We have been here a few times but they didn't have their lobster roll which is why we come. That was a major bummer for how far we traveled."

  • "poor service. ordered soup and never got it even after asking twice. out of water asked for more did not get it. had to ask twice for fill up on soda."

  • "Food was good, but overpriced. Particularly the drinks - $18 for a cocktail? This isn't the Peninsula Hotel in Beverly Hills. Had to wait half an hour for a table even with a reservation. Tuna tartare and steamed clams were very good."

  • "Gladstone's is my go to place for a special occasion or celebration. The selling point is it's great location! Signature cocktails and great seafood always add to a special evening."

  • "Gladstone's charges an arm and a leg for good, though not spectacular food. What you're really paying for is the view, which is gorgeous. You can watch the waves roll in, and feel the sea breeze, and that's hard to beat."

  • "This was the first stop for my friends visiting from Wyoming. It was a perfect start to their vacation; great food, service, views, and ambience showcasing what Southern California has to offer! I love the new and improved Gladstones. Thanks!"

  • "I live this place, the view, the food, location but they must train those waitresses there is no way in the world for this kind of service. I always make reservation the wait time is walkways redicles but they do t look at your eys, they lie and don't care, simply don't care!!! Too bad not a cheap Resturant I'll go much offer if they had better service."

  • "Hadn't visited in a few years but always a favorite for me and the wife. Had kids with us, one who is an adult, and he loved it too. Ate outdoors on a perfect evening. Great LA atmosphere and can't beat the view. Delicious Ahi tuna sandwich, fish tacos and fish 'n chips were all delicious. The cheesecake and brownie sundae made a great finish. Finished our trip at Paradise Cove Cafe further up the PCH - same owners. Limited breakfast service these days but good for that too."

  • "I have dined at Gladstones for the past 10 years. They have changed the menu several times since they sold the restaurant and the current menu is horrible and I won't be returning."

  • "I have been going there and usually bring a client for the last 15 years, whenever I happened to be on the west coast. I did the same this past weekend and knew immediately something was wrong when I saw how empty it was at 7:30 on a Saturday night. As soon as we were seated and saw the menu I knew this wasn't the same place. Very limited and not very interesting. I ordered the "tower" of seafood appetizers. They oysters were terrible. Couldn't eat more than one. The food was delivered and was simply "blah". Presentation reminded my of Denny's. It seemed the only thing the staff prided themselves in was the fish figures they made from foil to wrap up the take homes. That's still consistent."

  • "Steam clams great, fish and chips mushy and inedible, desert ( key lime pie) stale), great server....I would go again because I live nearby but with lower expectations and would order different things. A shadow of it's former self"

  • "I agree with most of the other diners who have posted - for decades this was the place to go. Now, it has gone downhill. The menu is limited. everyone in our party of 7 was disappointed with the choices. WAY overpriced! Not worth the $500 bill! The food was not good except for the Macadamia Rock Shrimp appetizer. Service was poor, sat for a long time before anyone came to our table. Asked twice for bread and water. Had to ask a busboy for help 3 times. The tip was automatically entered into our bill, he did not deserve what they forced us to give him. We wanted to give it a chance, for "old times sake," and since The Chart House was gone, and we wanted a nice restaurant on the ocean for our son's graduation from UCLA. Big mistake. :("

  • "It was Father's Day and I understand they were busy but our waitress didn't take our order for the longest time we were also waiting for the food for almost an hour one of the dishes she recommend was so fishi that we couldn't eat but she didn't care. Beside that I eat there any time sits a great place with quality food and great environment. Train your waitress!!!"

  • "We made 9 am reservations for Father'sDay/Birthday. Ordered kids meal first to save time and get them started. 45 minutes later the adult meals came and they said there was "confusion about the kids meal" - which was just pancake and bacon. The adult meals were less than warm so we sent them back. meanwhile kids meals came, they finished, then adult meals so the kids were restless by now. Veggie omelette that said mushrooms were included had NO mushrooms. They brought a side of mushrooms after I finished the meal. It said it came with a side of grilled tomotoes. Sliced tomatoes were served. Managers came by and apologized. Took half off bill, but seriously we were so disappointed it was pretty ridiculous at how the service was."

  • "We made a reservation for Father's Day breakfast and we arrived early to take in the scenery but to our surprise they were able to seat us right away. Our drink orders were taken and delivered and we all knew what we wanted to eat so we ordered right away. It was a special menu for Father's day so they didn't have a kids menu but was able to accommodate my two children, the only bad thing was that all of the adults received their food way before the kids got theirs. Fortunately the adults shared with the kids until their food came. The mimosas were delicious, the service was attentive, and of course the view was gorgeous!"

  • "We went to Gladstones for Father's Day brunch. Although when I called the indignant lady said there would be a brunch, there were just 4 brunch/breakfast items available (Fisherman's breakfast, crab benedict, seafood omelette, french toast). When we asked the server if there was a kids menu available he said he would need to check as that was a special request. What? Did they think ahead at all? Food was served and it was fair- luke warm, institutional, nothing special. Gladstones view and ambiance along the Pacific Ocean is unbeatable, their bland food and outrageous prices leave much to be desired."

  • "We had a wonderful time on Father's Day, the food was awesome, the waiter totally cool, and the view to die for. However, you should think about bringing back salmon in a bag though, and a non-fish soup for those beautiful bread bowls."

  • "We had Father's Day breakfast from an extremely limited menu. The food itself? The crab cakes tasted like they were made with canned crab, and the seafood omelette was just okay. The fresh fruit cup was very good, though. Our waiter and everyone else who served were all great, and the view from the outside deck was beautiful. We were paying for the view."

  • "WE were celebrating my husbands Birthday, we got the seat we requested by the window inside, very nice. The waiter was attentive and friendly. The ambience was beautiful! some children were next to us but not very loud. We enjoyed our food and delicious piece of chocolate cake. We will definitely be back!!! we also went down by the water after our meal, my husband enjoyed his day and birthday very much!"

  • "We were out to spend the morning by the beach and have breakfast at Gladstone. We were so surprised about the excellent service, the waiter was so accomodating, making sure our daughter is not bored and checking if our food was to our satisfaction. Overall a great experience."

  • "I've had many good experiences at this venue; however I would NEVER recommend this venue for Mother's Day. I brought my mother and my Grandmother here for brunch. I had written in my reservation that my sister was vegetarian and that I am vegan I even called to confirm that there would be access to the regular menu at the time or some kind of vegetarian/vegan option. The hostess assured me that there would be options or substitutions. There was no such thing. We had to choose from the prix fixe menu having only 1 vegetarian option. NO SUBSTITUTIONS. Our server said that there was no access to the regular menu. I asked to speak to the manager, who said that we had to choose from that menu because they were too busy to make anything else."

  • "Viere' set the tone for a really great surprise birthday celebration for my wife and Gladstones didn't let us down. The new, larger deck was able to handle our party of 12 with ease. The food, still great even with a few tweaks to some old favorites like the Coconut-Curry Shrimp! Drinks are good... perhaps a tad more tequila to the margaritas and less mixer... but all said a really great dining experience."

  • "In looking for a dinner spot with a great view and seafood I settled on Gladstones. I got the view. The menu is a strange mixture of pub food & decent seafood at a premium price. We had two appetizers, raw ahi and steam clams. The ahi presentation was not designed to share. The clams needed to be served in a warmed platter as the sauce cooled quickly. I had the Mahi special. Nice piece of fish. Spicy green bean almandine. The serving size was not commensurate with the price. The restaurant seemed to be shooting for vintage shabby but settled for for run down. The service was poor. The very young staff was more interested in playing with each other than offering service. Gladstones seems to be trading on location and the tourist trade."

  • "It was our 17th Wedding Anniversary and we had just moved into the area and wanted a place that was not quite so busy, loud, and bustling. Food was ok. It did come hot, but did not have that "WOW" effect. Of course, maybe that had to do more with what we ordered. Hostess was wonderful, but wait staff was a little slow. IF you want ocean views, social charisma, and tourists then this is it. We probably won't be back. It just wasn't quite what we were looking for."

  • "I haven't been to Gladstone's in a long while. I enjoyed the old pictures an ambiance of the former version. My opinion is that the food was good just slightly over priced. But I guess you are paying for the view. We had to wait a very long time for our food. We sat patiently. The waiter offered us cups of clam chowder on the house because it was taking so long. It was delicious. Over all ok experience , just wish they still had the awesome fisherman's platter"

  • "Easiest to use valet parking-cash when exit. Do have a reservation after 5:00pm. Outside may be a little breezy and cool, but this is fresh air there are space heaters. Inside is a mite stuffy, but warmer. Service was very good. Appeared to be well staffed. Food was very good. Wine list is ok. A good place to dine when going to the Getty Villa. "

  • "We had a party of 8. We were seated promptly and had a great waiter! The weather was perfect! Food and cocktails were outstanding. It was a special 82nd Birthday for my Mom who has never seen or been to a So Cal beach! She had the best time and great food!"

  • "On a small peninsula off PCH, amazing views of the ocean. I honestly do not understand why anyone would sit inside in good weather as the deck is right on the sand. Seafood was amazingly fresh and service wonderful."

  • "We received a gift card to Gladstones. It was a nice treat. We had a reservation for 4 at 5:30. We were seated around 6 at a window table. Our waiter was very nice. Food was good for such a big restaurant. Green beans were over cooked and limp. Dough on fish and chips a bit thick but crispy and the cod flaky. Diver scallop were nice and tender, the Tuna was good as was the crusted shrimp appetizer. Steamed clams were said to be yummy. The real star of the meal is the fresh baked bread. We received a foil work of art to take home our left overs. Next time we will go for lunch!"
