A word from Gladstones Malibu
In a world where landmarks are few and far between there is Gladstones. Situated where Sunset Boulevard meets the Pacific Coast Highway, it's become a place of Southern California legend. Gladstones offers a menu plucked from the very ocean it overlooks, serving modern renditions of classic dishes. In its typically relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere, there's something to satisfy every palate. Whether you're at the raw bar, the lounge, the dining rooms or the grand patio over-looking the surf, it's commonly agreed there's no better place, either up the coast or down, to enjoy fresh seafood, a Mai Tai or a sunset. Gladstones has been named an "Editor's Pick" in Sunset Magazine, one of Gayot.com's "Top 10 Outdoor Dining Restaurants" in L.A. and one of CBS Los Angeles's "Best Seafood" restaurants. Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Have dined here a few times over the past twenty years and until now have always enjoyed the experience. My visit on Sunday presented dirty tables with food bits that remained on the table being wiped off onto the floor. The greet/wait staff were nice but were fit for a Red Lobster instead of a high-end (based on prices) restaurant. The menu of the day didn't resemblance the one presented online. There was no Shrimp Scampi, there was no Lobster Tail/Petite Filet, there was no Wedge Salad and we were not happy with the quality of what we were presented. Will not be going there again!"

  • "Your Manager Paul Williams and all of your servers are the best! I dine out a lot however, when I go to Gladstones in PP, they always find time to come over and say hello and make me feel welcome."

  • "Had a great dinner with boyfriend this past weekend, awesome crabcakes! Drinks were also good! Will definitely go back!"

  • "I'm honestly not trolling...Gladstones is the WORST meal in LA- overpriced mediocre seafood for tourists and people who don't know better. Overcooked crab legs, dry salmon, wine with cork in the glass, a dessert serving plate with someone else's nasty old food stuck on it!!! Seriously, skip Gladstones and head straight to the Reel Inn or Maestro's Ocean Club."

  • "the food leaves a lot to be desired. My friend ordered clam chowder, tasted like a lot of flour based soup and very little clam taste. My fish and chips: fish ok, but chips soggy. Ambiance great, waiters great, the best experience was watching the doggie bag art work. Definitely not for foodies but a landmark for tourists and scenery....."

  • "This is a great place to take friends and family at the end of a day touring LA. Sunset all the way down till you hit the water. Order the calamari as a meal instead of an appetizer and share sides with others, they give you a ton! Great food, fun family atmosphere with easy access to the beach for a stroll or a swim."

  • "Brought our friends here to celebrate their anniversary, great spot, have been here twice and will be back again, the ceviche was great!!!"

  • "We are New Yorkers who were in LA on vacation and have been to Gladstone's before on previous trips. The food is very good and the location and view beautiful. The service was a little lax. The staff was friendly and cordial but could have done a little better job. The bread came very late to the table and I had to remind the waitress about a drink that I had ordered. After our dinner we took a walk on the beach which topped off the dinner. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to have an enjoyable dinner and a taste of the beautiful California coast."

  • "When friends from back east come to visit, we always try to take the to Gladstone's for lunch. It's such a California experience, right on the beach, good food, great ambience, great place to talk and have drinks."

  • "We've been coming to Gladstones for many years, and while some changes have been positive, such as getting rid of the cement benches on the patio, other changes to the menu have been less than perfect. The view is great and the valet parking is both spacious and helpful, but the food is average or less. The staff is friendly but hardly attentive. The price is comparatively high for the quality of the food."

  • "My wife and I had just picked up our guest from LAX and proceeded on the Gladstone's. I had made a reservation 3 days prior with a request to sit at a ocean view table....Well thats what we got , plus a 3 minute wait to be seated and also scored with awesome service and good food. Thanks Glandstone's for this awesome experience!"

  • "This is an excellent restaurant right on the beach. It provides a fantastic view of the ocean. Ask to sit at a table on "the catwalk" which provides the best view. Excellent food and service. A bit pricey but worth it."

  • "The food is great, but the service was poor at best. The server only showed up when delivering something. Never came around to get additional drinks or ask about dessert. After a $300 dinner bill, we wont be going back. There are several restaurants with superior food and service in the $300 range."

  • "Had reservations, still took 30 mins to seat and then it seemed like an inconvenience. With the prices you pay, you'd expect to be treated with respect by the manager and you'd expect clean facilities (restrooms). They were all horrible!! The view was nice and the food amazing. THE ONLY REASON TO GO"

  • "Long-time girlfriends, who hadn't seen each other for years, came together at Gladstyopnes for dinner. It was a fabulous time catchinbg up and the food and services overal was great. A couple of the ladies ordered clam chowder that turned out not to be very tasty. However, it was no problem for Gladstones as they gladly removed these items from our billl. Our Gladstones experience was very memorable."

  • "We dined with a group of 9 on Saturday and one of our diners recieved cold mashed potatoes. When she pointed this out, it appeaed from the returned dish that they just microwaved them warm. Steak was excellent, fish and chips very good. Our problem was hopefully just an isolated incident, one that really should never happen, though."

  • "My husband and I enjoyed a delicious dinner at this restaurant last weekend. We shared a large maine lobster and it was perfectly cooked and deliciously tender. This was the best lobster I have eaten on the West Coast since moving here from the East Coast 8 years ago. The sides were also delicious, especially the grilled sweet potato. Just a lovely evening and we will return!"

  • "I was treated to Gladstone's by a local when I arrived in California for a business trip. We drove down the coast and stopped at this beautiful place. It is right on the water. We sat on the deck outside and enjoyed a lovely salmon salad. We could not have asked for a better time! The salad was delightful and the view was amazing. Truly remarkable. Our server was super attentive and went the extra mile to make sure we were taken care of! Overall, I would highly recommend stopping at this rare find! Ask for seating on the deck with a view! There are plenty of seats and even plenty in the shade!"

  • "Have been going to Gladstones for over 35 years. It is still fun. Wait staff very attentive and our food was yummy. I had steamers. Very garlic broth. Great for dipping bread and slurping. Kids split the fish and chips. Was a big kids portion. Their fish was crispy and even my picky eater enjoyed it. Try to reserve a.Window booth. Was great watching the sunset. Recommend spenfing the afternoon at the beach and then come up for dinner."

  • "I hadn't been to Gladstones in several years and was glad to see the large umbrellas outside to protect diners from the seagulls. They also added an outdoor living room cocktail area. We had appetizers and drinks (mojitos and margaritas--perfect) with some spicy tempura shrimp (ok) and yummy steamed clams. We stayed outside but moved to the ocean view tables for clam chowder and scallops. Both were incredibly good. We wanted some souvenirs for my niece's kids but they're out of everything...a new management company has taken over, an entirely new branding campaign is in the works and the restaurant is going to get that facelift in the next few months. The new manager was extremely helpful. So go in now and later to see the differences!"

  • "Glad stones has a great view of the Pacific Ocean. They were very busy the night we were there. While the server promised that we were his priority, the wait for water, bread, and to take our orders was excessive. That's enough to make me think twice before returning."

  • "The place changed over last few years, I used to go there very often and I remember it as great food, great view, great people and great atmosphere. Now food is good, view and people are still great, atmosphere is different - to noisy and overcrowded - not suited for special occasion anymore."

  • "We have been here a few times but they didn't have their lobster roll which is why we come. That was a major bummer for how far we traveled."

  • "Food was good, but overpriced. Particularly the drinks - $18 for a cocktail? This isn't the Peninsula Hotel in Beverly Hills. Had to wait half an hour for a table even with a reservation. Tuna tartare and steamed clams were very good."

  • "Gladstone's charges an arm and a leg for good, though not spectacular food. What you're really paying for is the view, which is gorgeous. You can watch the waves roll in, and feel the sea breeze, and that's hard to beat."

  • "Gladstone's is my go to place for a special occasion or celebration. The selling point is it's great location! Signature cocktails and great seafood always add to a special evening."

  • "I live this place, the view, the food, location but they must train those waitresses there is no way in the world for this kind of service. I always make reservation the wait time is walkways redicles but they do t look at your eys, they lie and don't care, simply don't care!!! Too bad not a cheap Resturant I'll go much offer if they had better service."

  • "Hadn't visited in a few years but always a favorite for me and the wife. Had kids with us, one who is an adult, and he loved it too. Ate outdoors on a perfect evening. Great LA atmosphere and can't beat the view. Delicious Ahi tuna sandwich, fish tacos and fish 'n chips were all delicious. The cheesecake and brownie sundae made a great finish. Finished our trip at Paradise Cove Cafe further up the PCH - same owners. Limited breakfast service these days but good for that too."

  • "I have been going there and usually bring a client for the last 15 years, whenever I happened to be on the west coast. I did the same this past weekend and knew immediately something was wrong when I saw how empty it was at 7:30 on a Saturday night. As soon as we were seated and saw the menu I knew this wasn't the same place. Very limited and not very interesting. I ordered the "tower" of seafood appetizers. They oysters were terrible. Couldn't eat more than one. The food was delivered and was simply "blah". Presentation reminded my of Denny's. It seemed the only thing the staff prided themselves in was the fish figures they made from foil to wrap up the take homes. That's still consistent."

  • "This was the first stop for my friends visiting from Wyoming. It was a perfect start to their vacation; great food, service, views, and ambience showcasing what Southern California has to offer! I love the new and improved Gladstones. Thanks!"

  • "I read many reviews online and was kind of nervous as to how it was going to be. I am not sure if it was luck, but we got seated immediately at a table on the patio directly overlooking the beach, ocean, and the setting sun. The food was good overall and the Tuna steak that I had tasted excellent, it was cooked and flavored perfectly. If you go there for dinner make sure to request your leftovers to be wrapped regardless if you are going to eat them. You will have to request a specific server and most likely have to wait for him to come over, but it is well worth it. With gold colored aluminum foil he creates pieces of art in the matter of moments. Overall it was a superb time, I will definitely be going back the next time I am in the area."

  • "Steam clams great, fish and chips mushy and inedible, desert ( key lime pie) stale), great server....I would go again because I live nearby but with lower expectations and would order different things. A shadow of it's former self"

  • "We had a wonderful time on Father's Day, the food was awesome, the waiter totally cool, and the view to die for. However, you should think about bringing back salmon in a bag though, and a non-fish soup for those beautiful bread bowls."
