We took our cousins from Pittsburgh and Ohio to Gladstone's after we spent the morning at the Getty Villa.
The five of us enjoyed a medium seafood tower; Wow!
Great choice! Afterwards, we went to Santa Monica Pier, manhattan beach via pch to home in Torrance; for home cooked steak, potatoes, asparagus, salad.
If we did not have this full meal waiting for us at home we would have made different choices at Gladstone's, as it turned out, the medium seafood tower and beautiful sour dough bread was outstanding !

The couches on the waiting deck overlooking the beach was a great way of wait for our table to be ready while having drinks. Due to the large crowd for Mother's Day, by the time we ordered, they were out of the fresh fish and the flatbread items, thus my wife had to get her third choice. I really enjoyed my experience,there was absolutely no lack of service. It was self-serve. Only thing was I wish the food was replaced more often, they had dishes that were completely empty (because they were so delicious) like the Banana Fosters French Toast. I also wish they had more options with food, and especially more chocolate dipped strawberries! So Despite the overpacked busy bodies, Gladstones did a fine job of handling the amount of guests literally POURING into the location. No complaints what so ever!!!! Had made previous reservations and we were seated within 10min of reserved time (honon our added request of window ocean view paio table). All the wait staff were responsive to all our requests, prompt, knowledgeable, and personable. The setting by the ocean is really lovely, and makes one feel further away from LA, although it is a huge place and packs in so many diners. All in all, one of my favorite places, for the ambience, not the food. The buffet was disappointing, so we stuck with the regular menu. Our servers were all friendly & never made us feel like we had to leave. They were out of the wines we wanted but were wonderful about bringing us tastes of others. The only negative I would say is that they didn't have the New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc we wanted, but they were so accommodating about it, I can't complain.
We all enjoyed our food immensely - the rock shrimp appetizer which was yummy, my friends had burgers which they enjoyed & I had a delicious crab roll.

The food was terrific. It was a great evening and we even had our celebration documented by the house photographer. I think in the future, I will ask for a booth and/or a table that is not wedged so tightly between the other tables. They came in from Santa Barbara, Ventura, Palm Springs, and one walked over from his house. We had a great table, great ocean view and, of course, fantastic food.
Table favorites were the calamari appetizer, ALL of the vegetables and fish. Mostly, we loved our server Laura who kept smiling and did not complain when we used the end table to play dominoes while we ate. Gold Star goes to the manager who made sure our loaves of bread were sliced. Can't beat the beach scene or the very infectious servers as they create a take home package that is like no other restaurant on the coast. Making reservations on Open Table was the difference between a good experience and a great experience.
Short wait on a day with literally thousands of people, we scored an excellent table with a view of the ocean, as requested in our reservation.
The staff was rocking and rolling keeping up with everyone and everything
We had a great time, enjoyed the food, the service, the view and the ambiance.

However, we were seated inside near the back, and the baby shower going on in the private dining area disrupted everything. The swinging doors didn't shut, so an arctic gale of hurricane-force winds were constantly disrupting our meal. Eventually some of the staff caught on, but one of them didn't get the hint, and even argued with us about the difficulty of taking cake to the partygoers if he had to close the door.
Titi was nice enough to comp our chowder, and we assumed it was because of the party, but seriously: do something about that door. Of course, Gladstones was on the list. She loved it. She ordered the clam chowder and blue crab cakes and said they were delicious. My husband enjoyed the fish and chips. I'm a vegan and they made the vegetable flatbread for me. I was delighted; it was scrumptious. The view of the ocean is so relaxing.
