Diner Reviews
  • "Beyond AWESOME!!!! I am still experiencing a level of gastro-bliss post our Giulia dinner almost a week ago! Starting with their simple crostini, we steadily worked our way through a farfalle dish with ground walnuts and gorgonzola, monkfish with capers and polenta.. .and ended with a hazelnut gelato with espresso . Every dish was purr...fect. Can't wait to go back again to this fantastic restaurant. The only downside was the time it took to find parking on a Friday night! So give yourself plenty of time (at least 15-20 mins) to snag that elusive spot on Mass avenue. The wait staff was very warm and friendly. "

  • "We loved the food offerings here. Everything was fresh with the natural flavors not masked by over seasoning. We loved the neighborhood feel of the place. From the excellent bread that first came to the table right up to the dessert, the food was excellent. Their homemade pasta was superb. We will definitely return."

  • "Have been lucky enough to have dined at Giulia's a few times, never disappointed. Love that they change up the menu once in a while, although would go and have all the same again happily!! Hardest part is deciding which wonderful pasta and dessert to order, they are all great. Staff are always friendly and helpful. Just a pleasure to eat there! Thank you and continued success."

  • "Nice, warm atmosphere with very good Italian bistro food, Pastas are there specialties but appetizers were wonderful too."

  • "What a fabulous meal! We had the five-course tasting menu and every bite was a revelation. The service and atmosphere are lovely and the food is amazing."

  • "This is my first time in the restaurant and already I want to come back. All the dishes are very nicely done especially the pasta dish."

  • "My first contact with their service was on the phone; I had to change my reservation. They were so accommodating. I had made my original reservation over a month ahead. Our wonderful waiter was extremely helpful both with the wine and the menu. We were a party of 5. We shared the sfizzi- olives and anchovies; three appetizers -- prosciutto, burrata with beets, tuna crudo, main-the wild boar with pappardelle, the orecchiette with pork sausage and faro with duck, dessert- panna cotta, olive oil cake and biscotti. So altho all were excellent, and I having tasted everything would put my gold stars on the burrata with beets, the orecchiette with pork sausage, and the olive oil cake. The warm atmosphere was both relaxing and up-beat."

  • "From the second you walk in to Giulia, you are greeted by some of the best service staff in Boston. It is a warm, welcoming and intimate environment that draws you in from the start. Every course is worth trying and is set up like a tasting menu for a reason - you should have them all. From the crostini del giorno to the tuna crudo, to the bucatini, to the scallops, to pistachio gelatio, every course was absolute perfection. The wine list was excellent and the bartender made great cocktails. The chef came out at the end of our meal to check in which added just another layer of excellence to an already perfect evening. I can't recommend Giulia highly enough. (Betsy, our waitress, was amazing!)"

  • "This was our first time here. We heard the pasta was amazing and it exceeded our expectations. We've eaten at all the top restaurants in the city and the pasta here is better than all of them. The atmosphere is fun and lively but the sound is manageable so you can have conversation. We started with the anchovy sfizzi followed by the burrata and beets and then the spaghetti with razor clams and the agnolotti with lamb neck. We ended with the pistachio gelato. Each item was seriously delicious. A nice surprise, the prices were very reasonable for this level of quality. We'll be back very soon! Thanks for a great meal"

  • "...is that you can't order one of everything. Having yourself narrowed down to 4 main courses when the waiter came back for the third time still felt like a bit of an accomplishment. However, it was very nice of them to offer half-servings of their pasta mains (not shown on the menu). Specifically, the tuna was wonderful, the spaghetti with clams was the best thing I had all night (the breadcrumbs really made it noteworthy), and although the rib-eye required a little more trimming than I would expect at a restaurant of this grade, it was still positively delicious (and huge). Don't be discouraged if the wait for a reservation is a couple weeks. Make the reservation anyway. You won't regret it."

  • "We had been told Giulia was the one great restaurant in Cambridge to check out. Absolutely true. The food, room, ambience, staff - exceptional yet not stuffy. We plan on going back monthly!"

  • "We Like Giulia very much--there is a sweetness about the service, the five course meal (which they often stretch to 7 just because) is marvellously paired with wines and aperitifs. The food is top notch in terms of ingredients. I don't love the restaurant because I just find the food a little saltier and a little less adventurous or spicy than I like. That's on me, I think, not on the restaurant. Italian food without a mediterranean/arabic twist just seems a little dull to me. But there are standout dishes (the polenta appetizer is to die for) and the desserts are fabulous. We didn't order the prosciutto and arugula appetizer but we saw it go by and it looked perfect and refreshing. I highly recommend Giulia if you like Italian food."

  • "The food at Giulia is fantastic and the service is very friendly! Deciding on starters and main courses was difficult as there are many tempting options. My boyfriend doesn't eat grains or dairy and he was still able to create a meal he was very happy with. While the restaurant filled up quickly soon after we arrived (at 5:45!), it was not too loud and we were able to have a normal volume conversation."

  • "What a wonderful evening--food, ambience, service, wine--my friend and I had at Giulia the other night. Couldn't have been more festive, more relaxed, or more delicious."

  • "The food here was delicious- but more importantly, the serving sizes were perfect. We left feeling like we had a delicious, fresh meal- and didn't feel overly stuffed at all."

  • "I had high expectations when I made my dinner reservation at Guilia a month in advance, but I was not disappointed. All the flavors of the dishes were very fresh, not overpowering. The homemade bowtie pasta I got was perfectly aldente. The sea bass was crusty and flaky, very good. I thought the chocolate dessert was a bit intense, but it was good to split with my date."

  • "An amazing restaurant with a fantastic, original, delicious menu and friendly, expert service. Truly one of the best meals my husband and I have eaten among the many restaurants we've visited in Boston, New York, San Francisco, etc. I had read about Giulia months before, chose it for a special birthday dinner (I couldn't get a reservation for the actual Saturday of my birthday because the restaurant is popular and was booked) and found the experience memorable. My husband and I loved the varied dishes' unusual combinations of ingredients, textures, flavors...all cooked perfectly and arriving hot at our table."

  • "I saw the restaurant featured on Chronicle and immediately made a reservation. It was a special occasion and the food was excellent. I recommend the oysters on the half shell and for the entree the monkfish and scallops. the atmosphere was trendy, energetic and enjoyable. I was apprehensive about the parking on Mass Ave but it was not difficult and after 6 pm was free."

  • "Love the restaurant - portions are small which is fine for me, but not everyone, i.e., male diners. Small but delicious which is important."

  • "The best Italian restaurant in the city. I had the casarecce and my wife had the farfelle. Both dishes were superb. If you have never been to this restaurant, you need to make a reservation 6-8 weeks in advance. Its that good!"

  • "We had been told that Giulia's was good and had read the positive reviews, but we were surprised and delighted to find the restaurant really lived up to all the positive comments. Right from the beginning the experience went well - friendly greeting from the hostess, very nice table (in the window on the bar side), and friendly but professional waitress. For us the food is the thing, and we were not disappointed The pasta is made in house and is cooked perfectly - al dente. We did save room for dessert for coffee, both of which were very good. We will definitely be repeat customers."

  • "The Tuesday dinner at Giulia was one of my most memorable Boston dining experiences in twenty years of regularly dining out. Normally, Italian food it not my favorite, but one trip to Giulia has made me a convert. The wild boar pappardelle was perfection and the sommelier recommended a glass of Anglianco wine as the ideal pairing. The brussel sprouts were beautifully roasted and could also convert anyone who is undecided about this vegetable. The close of this remarkable dining experience the poached pear panna cotta and chocolate terrine enhanced by a cup of George Howell coffee...sublime! To compliment the outstanding food, each and every encounter with the server, sommelier and AGM was kind, warm and oozing in genuine hospitality!"

  • "My 24 year-old niece beat me by getting to eat at Giulia last fall, and the restaurant lives up to her rave review. Pasta is one of my favorites, and they don't disappoint...the salad was surprising, delicious, and thoughtfully constructed. The wine list gives lots of scope to discovering unknown Italian wines. The food is correctly seasoned, not always a given these days, but for those whose palates are informed by eating take-out they graciously have salt and pepper on the table. We'll be back!"

  • "Small intimate, the food was outstanding, the food was melting in the mouth. Unique ingredients with a lot of creativity by the young chef. Nancy our waitress was amazing, knowledgable, inthusiastic, passionate about the food and wine, and when she described the food you wanted to order everything on the menu. Definitely going back soon. Thank you Giulia for an awesome evening."

  • "We were able to get a reservation on very short notice (1 day in advance!) and in the end it was an excellent dining experience. The atmosphere is sophisticated, yet relaxed. Reasonably quiet for such a busy spot. The staff was extremely professional and our waitress very pleasant and knowledgeable. The food was outstanding! My wife and I shared the Crostini del Giorno and the Bruschetta. Both excellent but paled (only slightly) in comparison to our main dishes. My wife had the tagliatelle and I had the pappardelle with wild boar. The portion size was perfect and the flavors were amazing. Unfortunately, we live at some distance from Cambridge otherwise this restaurant would become a regular. Not to be missed. Highly, highly recommended."

  • "Every time we have been to Giulia we have had oysters on the half shell, and they are the best in the city. This is because of the inventive mignonettes served with them: last summer made of gooseberries, and this time pickled pear and cucumber. You can't miss. We had a halibut special, served I think for the first time. Our server described the whole fish they had gotten that morning, and said they would probably run out of it very soon. It was braised with calimari and scallops, and couldn't have been better.d"

  • "Would have preferred a more Italian approach to the pasta dishes as in less ingredients and less ornate. Some of them just didn't taste that good. The tagliatelle with mushrooms however was excellent as were the oysters. Service was very good. Several wonderful desserts. I called over 2 weeks ahead for a Wednesday night and could only get in at 6:15."

  • "While the table was rather tiny and wobbly, it was soon forgotten by the fantastic food. We had the oysters and the tuna crude for apps. My husband had the ribeye and I , the branzino - all fabulous. I had the panna cotta for dessert, just out of this world good. Wow!"

  • "I took a foodie friend there for her birthday and we splurged with the tasting menu and wine tastings. My only complaint is that I ate too much because every course was simply amazing. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable without being intrusive. The food was presented beautifully and there was no offering that wasn't delicious from the sardines to the oysters to the pastas (yes 3 different!) to the pork to the desserts, Highly recommend. I will be back."
