The room itself echoes the casual, rustic atmosphere of the main dining room and is host to the restaurant's wine and liquor stock - don't be surprised if you see the hardworking bar staff sneak in a few times to keep things rolling upstairs. Chef Stephanie Izard will design a family-style menu for you (dietary restrictions will not be ignored) and our beverage director will recommend wine, beer and/or a signature cocktail to match what Stephanie comes up with.

  • "wonderful food, great ambiance. Only drawback is reservation availability!"

  • "My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the entire dining experience at the Girl & the Goat. Our server was wonderful and explained the menu to us very well. The food was absolutely wonderful!"

  • "Went here for the third time with my two friends. We love it. We probably got everything on the menu, and it was all delicious! Great food, great service (our waitress even brought us dessert on the house), and unbeatable atmosphere. WOULD recommend to anyone! WILL be back a fourth time."

  • "Highly recommend! I wanted to try everything on the menu but went for things I've never had before. The pig face, the escargot ravioli, confit goat belly, all were outstanding. If I lived in the city this would be a regular stop. The service is impeccable the staff is well trained. They know everything about what's on the menu and if you're not sure what to order they will recommend something. You must try the bread it is out of this world. There's a reason this place is always packed, Chef Stephanie knows her stuff."

  • "We had a group of 6 visiting from Florida where friends told us we had to try to eat here while in town. We heard such great reviews from everyone we spoke to but we were still blown away at how wonderful the experience was. We're all foodies and work in all areas of the restaurant business and felt truly blessed to experience such professionalism! Our waiter Trevor took great care of us. Even though we didn't order until almost 11 every dish was perfectly timed with the next! He answered all of our questions with the comfort of a friend and the air of a great host. We were also impressed by the reasonable price points making the restaurant accessible to GP. The G&G petit Verdot is lovely! We will to return to this gem soon!"

  • "My wife and I were really anticipating eating at Stephanie Izard's restaurant for our anniversary and we were not disappointed. All the dishes were excellent. We had the halibut, the goat belly, and the beef ribs (shared plates) and they were all delicious. My only regret is that you need reservations 3-4 months out for the prime time."

  • "My fiancé and I just made our first trip to Chicago. Girl and the Goat was one of our last stops on the trip. We made reservations about six weeks ago for 10:00 PM dinner on a Sunday (obviously, not your average dinner time). The atmosphere was still vibrant. We were seated along the kitchen line (best two seats in the house). The staff entertained us the entire time. We ordered about seven plates, and we inhaled every bite (each plate came right as we finished the last). Honestly, hands down it was the best dinner and dining experience we have ever had. We definitely will go back EVERY time we make it to Chicago. I know this is not about the food, but I was also impressed with the décor and the restrooms downstairs. Just go. Trust me."

  • "Absolutely amazing! A must if visiting Chicago. The goat empanadas were incredibly delicious. The duck was outstanding. It was very loud so not conducive to intimate conversation, but the music was unexpected as it was rap and hip-hop but I loved it!"

  • "Each time I go, I'm amazed that it's better than the last. They really outdo themselves. Our lovely server sent over two breads on the house because they were out of the one we ordered. (We had a late Saturday night reservation - made four months in advance.) My foodie friend from New York was in town, and she had been wanting to try Girl and the Goat for a long time. Even she was impressed -- doubly so because of the quality of the food for the Chicago-style prices! The salmon dish was our favorite, followed closely by the steak tartare, the potstickers, grilled broccoli, and goat empanadas. We were so full by the end of the night that we only managed one dessert -- the bittersweet chocolate with basil gelato from Black Dog. SO GOOD."

  • "In a nutshell- food unique, portions just right for sharing, and cool vibe! It was loud in the restaurant, but it was like having the dining energy of excitement. We weren't rushed and our servers were incredible/attentive/knowledgeable/friendly! I'd recommend this place to everyone!"

  • "If you like eclectic dining and small portions then this is perfect for you. Can say the food was exceptional. It is a trendy restaurant and vibrant bar scene. Even the dining staff recommended other choice nearby for a "real meal". Would not do again."

  • "This was one of the best dining experiences I have ever had! Sure, we had a 4:30pm reservation, booked weeks out and the only time available…but who cares! The food was amazing! To top it off, we were seated at the "Chef's Table" and had the pleasure of interacting with the staff….so much fun! Plus…a few treats from the kitchen! This place is worth it…make a reservation NOW!"

  • "I did not venture to Girl and the Goat to enjoy their salads. But that's what happened. All the vegetable dishes were outstanding. The goat dishes (we had a pate and goat belly) were just ok. The regular protein was almost inedible - the lamb stuffed calamari was so bad that I had to really try hard not to spit it out."

  • "Delicious, and every bit worth all of the hype, and the wait. Pricey, and a little noisy, but will be back!"

  • "My husband and I are big fans of Top Chef and we really wanted to try the Girl & the Goat. We had to make reservations a couple months in advance to get in at a decent time on a Thursday night. We had a 615 reservation and were seated right away. We tried several dishes. Our favorite was the Sugo, Goat Belly and the Kohlrabi salad. The Scallops were great too. We would not order the Lamb Stuffed Calamari again as it was too salty. The service was great and overall the food was excellent."

  • "Very interesting menu. Extremely reasonable prices. Receptionist extremely cordial. Bartender was very friendly and made great efforts to be cordial to people that were crowded and waiting for table. The waiter was too busy to be attentive but the staff cleared out table quickly and was meticulous. The food was very well prepared, portions large, but was disappointed with pig face as we heard so much about it. That was the highlight of trip to Chicago. Thr management of the entire operations should be commrnded. The amount of food produced in the open kitchen for the long hours they are open for service exhibits the excellence and pride they all take in working there ."

  • "I came to Girl & The Goat because the surprising ingredient on the menu and I did get surprise especially the goat cheese and the goat liver. But one thing my friends and I got very annoyed about was that we waited for way too long for our food. I waited over 40 mins for my pork face."

  • "We loved the food and enjoyed the communal table and small plates vibe. The restaurant, however, was very lively and noisy and it was hard to hear each other. One of our party speaks English with an accent, and it was hard for the waiter to understand what he was requesting. Subsequently, our friend did not enjoy the dining experience."

  • "I have eaten here at least three times and I keep going back for more. Each visit I get the famous Pig Face and order different dishes so that I can explore their menu for myself. I've probably gone through more than half of the menu and I have yet to try something that didn't make me swoon. Veggies, fish, meat, ALL GOOD. Go there hungry, go there full, there's always some glorious dish you can eat."

  • "I have been dying to try this spot, and it is well worth getting your reservations far in advance. Excellent service, ambiance, and food. My friends and I love the small plates / sharing, so we were able to try different items. Per a recommendation, we went with one of the breads to begin- delicious. The cauliflower was amazing, and the salmon was phenomenal. Goat empanadas were also great! No complaints, and will definitely be back! Only observation- it was fairly noisy over the dinner hour. Not a complaint, just an observation."

  • "I had high expectations for this experience. I was able to land a Monday 5:30 reservation. I was amazed at how packed it was. The available tables were slim. I chose a table beside the bar and bypassed the table near a family with several crying infants. I was instructed to order all my dishes at once, all five plates. Although the food was tasty, the food was a bit overcooked. After a week and don't recall what I ordered. The restaurant was very loud and it was difficult to have a conversation with my guest. Good for the Goat it was packed, because one less girl will never be missed."

  • "THE "MANAGER" CAME BY AND ASKED IF WE WERE ENJOYING OUR MEAL. WE WERE EATING OUR DESSERT. WE SAID YES. HE MOTIONED TO THE WAITER TO GET US OUT. THE NEXT THING WE KNEW, THE CHECK WAS ON OUR TABLE. WE FELT VERY RUSHED."

  • "Who knew roasted cauliflower would be my favorite thing on the menu!?"

  • "We had a really fantastic experience! Got seated at the table attached the kitchen which was a really fun, unexpected experience. Our waiter was knowledgeable and had great recommendations for us. We shared the corn fed bread, chickpea fritter, squash blossom rangoons, pan roasted halibut, confit goat belly (had to try goat while we were here, this was amazing), sauteed green beans and miso-butterscotch budino for dessert which was by far the best dessert I've ever had! Definitely 5 stars!"

  • "The staff is really helpful and friendly. My wife and I went for our anniversary and were greeted kindly by the hostess. We were given the option to sit outside (which is a large communal table, but has plenty of space to keep your party separate from others). The food was terrific, definitely would recommend the rangoon, goat loin, beef ribs, and halibut. Five dishes were plenty for the two of us to split in addition to one shared dessert. I would definitely recommend Girl and the Goat to people who appreciate a well thought out menu."

  • "We had a phenomenal meal at Girl & the Goat. I'd definitely go back. Everything was delicious; servings were surprisingly generous; service was friendly and competent; drinks were wonderful. Just an outstanding experience from start to finish."

  • "The food was packed with well-balanced, unique combinations of flavors. The portions were perfect - not too small, just large enough to share."

  • "Had extremely high hopes for this restaurant. Went with my husband and another couple. The alternative music playing (sounded like WXRT) was very loud and it inhibited us from talking at a normal tone. We asked if some of the dishes can be altered due to allergies. The waitress came back with a menu marked up based on what we cannot have (which was 80% of the menu). Having a chef at this caliber, I would think that they could alter some of the dishes. Perhaps, the food is precooked and unable to alter?? Although the food that we had was good, I would consider it over rated "tapas" at best. Ambience was dark and loud."

  • "Went here for our anniversary and the servers were very informative and knew about the menu. Got the chick pea fritters crab tempura and halibut. Halibut was the big start and the tempura was nice. Ordered the date cake with gelato for dessert. The dessert was below average not doing justice to place. All in all a great experience"

  • "We could only get in night, but worth the wait. 25 minute walk from the langham, pretty loud, great service. Food was good, but sometimes overly complicated.... like they are trying to create totally new dishes rather than just doing something very well. For dessert we had the recommended boudin, which I found to sweet and with too many competing flavors and textures."

  • "food small portions over priced left starving there one one thing we liked and it was the rolls other than that nothing exciting or good about this place. Save your time and money there are so many other great places to eat at in Chicago"

  • "If you like your food smoked then you will love Girl & The Goat. If you don't like hickory smoked flavor in your meals then you will not be happy. Lot's of interesting choices on the menu, however, I think they have tried too hard to be different. I like trying different items like the Beef Tongue and the Octopus but neither was as impressive as I was hoping for and I was a little disappointed."

  • "Girl and the Goat is the current hot spot in Chicago; reserve WELL in advance, or be prepared to eat very early or very late. The atmosphere is warehouse casual and noisy, not the place for romantic conversation. It is the food that stars here. Served in small plates, the choices in the greens, fish and meat categories were extensive, and each one was more interesting than the last. Our only mistake was taking the waiter's advice to order three or four dishes each; we are fairly small eaters and could have been happy with two apiece. But we loved trying it all: beet salad, octopus, scallops, goat belly, pig face and green beans and gave our boxed leftovers to the couple next to us since we were traveling. A wonderful, inventive meal!"
