I've been dreaming of coming here for a while, so we came on my birthday. The food was amazing! Though I wish everything wasn't small family-style plates, but that's just because I was suddenly not ok with sharing all of the delicious food- I wanted it all to myself. This place was a treat! Great service. Excellent ambiance, amazing food! Stephanie Izard, you're my hero.

We went to The Girl & The Goat this past Thursday night with long time friends. We were all coming in from out of state and it was the perfect place to meet up, eat some amazing food in an environment that was energetic, yet conversation was easily had. Our server provided great recommendations and timed the food to come out perfectly so there was never too many plates on the table. Everything about the meal was perfect! We will definitely be back next time we are in Chicago!

The menus is so hard to choose, goat carpaccio? Goat heart? Goat liver? I ended up ordering the ham fries which were not bad but they're French fries. The broccoli with cheese, it was average, didn't feel. Broccoli and that kind of cheese matches well. The pappardelle that comes with beef pork and goat meat, too heavy and the hamachi with pork belly, didn't didn't find it spectacular or anything like that. I rather have dinner at rpm or Chicago chop house or joes or somewhere with better food.

We had waited several months to eat here. There was great anticipation!!! We had 900pm reservations. We were seated at 900pm. The service was outstanding. Very, very attentive. Our server genuinely seemed interested in our dining experience. The food was outstanding. Duck tongues, Quail, Pig Face. All outstanding..top notch. Do not be afraid of the Pig Face. The dish is perfectly prepared. Pork is awesome. The egg is nice and runny. We also had Goat empanadas and Crispy pork shank. The goat in the empanadas is great. I could eat a plate of that alone. The pork shank was ok, however to be fair, we were pretty full by then. WARNING: This place is very, very, very noisy. The tables are very close to each other. Conversation can be difficult.

I had heard all of the hype surrounding Girl and the Goat and finally had to check it out for myself. This place is packed but despite the full house we were promptly seated on time and quickly welcomed by our server. There is a friendly team approach to service which - someone was always stopping by to check on us and to bring our next course out fresh from the kitchen. These are small shareable plates with distinctive flavor profiles. Stephanie Izard is a genius for re-inventing the way we can and should eat. Simple easily sourced fresh vegetables, meats fish put together in unique and mind blowing combinations. I would have liked to get a glass of Chardonnay for less than $15 but other than that I will definitely return.

This restaurant has a cool, fun vibe and is in a great location. It's cozy, but there is plenty of room between diners. The portion sizes are larger than most small plate restaurants. You only need about 4 or maybe 5 dishes for 2 people and our waiter was very helpful and advised us of this. On his recommendation we tried the confit goat belly with lobster and crab. It was scrumptious! The roasted cauliflower is amazing, definitely try that! And the pig face is quite good as well. The goat empanadas are very nice also. They have an AMAZING petit verdot wine, made and sold specifically and only for the Girl and the Goat. Tried to get them to sell us a bottle to go, but alas they could not. Great find, will definitely revisit.

I dined at the Girl and the Goat recently on a trip to Chicago for the marathon. We read so much about it online and thought we had to try it. We were very disappointed starting with our experience at the bar. The bartender got an attitude with us right away when we went to order our normal drinks. They are one of these places that don't carry the standard drinks, but pick out their own that are less known. There was only one dish out of the 7 that we ordered that we enjoyed. The pig face with an egg on top was very delicious. However, no other dish had us talking about how good it was. Very disappointing restaurant.

...and make sure this place is on your itinerary. We travel to Chicago annually for my wife to run the Chicago Marathon and this is our 3rd consecutive annual visit to Girl & the Goat and every year it exceeds all of our expectaions. The food is amazing and the service is too. We simply couldn't help ourselves and ordered 9 small plate items from the menu; all fantastic. Calvin provided the most wonderful & effortless service we've ever experienced. Everything was simply perfect. Thank you for another spectacular evening at one of our favorite places on the planet!

The baked bread was fantastic. The trout was a surprise highlight. the goat empanadas were a little over fried but still quite good. The pig face has a good crunchiness to it. I loved the kohlrabi salad; I have not had something like that before. Some of the dishes were a tad salty but I didn't mind that. The shiitake ice cream was interesting and I am glad I got to try that, but the pb&j dessert was really more to my personal taste. Overall, it doesn't seem you can go wrong

So, I was in town for the Chicago Marathon. Someone told me to make a reservation at this restaurant when I booked my hotel (like four months early). Very glad I listened because this place was phenomenal. I was solo and this place is more for groups. With a group, you are advised to order several plates to share. But, after 26.2, I could eat enough for two. The Sugo was divine, the broccoli cooked to perfection, and the apple buckle mouth watering. This place is a MUST visit for your Chicago experience!

It took a while but we were finally able to get a reservation that fit our schedule for being in the city. This is another restaurant that is likely to push you out of your food comfort zone but will be well worth it. We arrived right at our reservation time and were promptly seated. All the dishes are small plates intended for sharing and in the end, we ordered four different dishes for the two of us. Serving of the dishes was not what we expected: first two of them came (delivered separately a couple of minutes apart) but then we had time to finish them before the other two came. We hadn't expected that and given a choice, might have wanted them in a different order. But very good and made for a very nice dinner in our long city day.

The food was amazing and the service was excellent. I'm a vegetarian, and I was worried that the vegetable dishes would not be substantial enough for a meal. However, the broccoli made me want to sing Taylor Swift love songs, and I was stuffed when we left. My boyfriend was blown away by the goat and meat dishes. The one downside to this place is the ambience, which is not uncommon. We sat at a banquette, that was oddly low, about 4 inches from our neighbors on either side. We couldn't hear each other without leaning on the table and yelling so we just stopped talking. Luckily, the food is good enough that conversation wasn't a high priority anyway.

This was the fourth time my husband and I have come here to dine. Once again, it did not disappoint. We ordered so many delicious items and enjoyed them all, even took some leftovers home so we could enjoy again. Pig face, green beans, and cauliflower courses are something I could order over and over again! Dessert came around and we both were too full for another course, but the server insisted to 'hypothetically' choose a desert. I completely forgot that the open table reservation said that this was a birthday dinner, and thought it was great that they accommodated that detail. All around, this place is a keeper as it does not ever disappoint!

Stephanie Izard, seriously thank you for sharing this amazing food with the city of Chicago. The "menu standards" are subtly tweaked so it's never exactly the same as it was before, and sometimes it's even more fabulous. I think you have to try very hard to find something that you won't like here. Sure it's a little pricey to eat here but it's totally worth it to indulge. Things to try: green beans, roasted beets, any of their fresh breads, the pork shank, goat empanadas, specialty oysters. Also the beer and wine menu is on point.

My friend and I came for dinner here for our first time and absolutely loved everything about this place. We've always heard great things, but wanted to check it out for ourselves. The food was amazing. We tried a small hummus plate (perfect for a mini appetizer). Afterwards, we bravely tried the goat empanadas, diver scallops and the chickpea fritters. So much flavor in all of them I couldn't chose which was best. However, our absolute favorite was the Pigs Head. I can't even explain how delicious it was. Aside from the food being wonderful, our server, Lindsey, was great! She provided us with awesome recommendations and we enjoyed her company as our server. We will be going back with friends to try other items on the menu.

This was my second visit to Girl & the Goat. My first time I was very impressed and couldn't wait to go back. On my second visit, the service was very slow and poor and the food was less than impressive. The flavors were completely off and didn't make sense. The courses didn't seem well thought out. They were a hodge-podge of flavors and I didn't finish any of the dishes.

We waited several months for our reservation and the Girl and the Goat was very much hyped up. Upon entering we were treated to seats at the chef's table and immediately felt very pleased with the service, which was excellent throughout the rest of the night. However the food was not as excellent. We started with the roasted cauliflower with parmesan. It was too oily and too salty. We also had sourdough bread with a olive tapanade and tuna creme. The tuna creme has no flavor of tuna and simply seemed like mayo. We did get complementary green beans which were, again, disappointingly salty. The trout, however, was well balanced and delicious and I would recommend it. The pork shank for being a popular dish didn't seem very special though.

Our family is currently geographically separated, and they visited me in Chicago for 3 days. We weren't going to leave our 6-year-old son behind since we had such limited time together, so we brought him with us. Well, green beans, duck tongue, goat empanadas, scallops...all were a welcome addition to his young palate (along with the dessert of course). The atmosphere was good, it was noisy and hard to hear across the table, but the food is solid. Green beans were delicious as well as the octopus and scallops. The quail was okay. The wood oven roasted pig was amazing! A must get!
