Girl & the Goatchicagos best diningGirl & the Goat was simply my favorite meal Ive ever eaten. Chef Steph is simply wonderful when it comes to her creations on this menu and pulled it off with stunning brilliance at a more than reasonable price point. Bring an open mind, an empty stomach and prepare to go home with a huge smile on your face.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMBlew away my lofty expectationsThis was our first visit to Girl and the Goat. I can place this meal and experience along the top 5 meals of my life. Our server, Gary, was absolutely spot on in his attention and recommendations. He struck that incredibly difficult balance between casual familiarity and absolute professionalism. The bus staff was there to take each plate as soon as we were done and fill our water whenever we needed, but they were never intrusive. And the food. Oh. My. God. We chose 6 dishes to share between the two of us (they are small plates, although all were ample) and every single one was unique and interesting, and above all, completely delicious. The cocktails were fabulous as well, Josh behind the bar was beyond helpful. Go. Now. Get the Sugo.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the best meals of my life! The food was incredible! So flavorful and unique. The prices were very reasonable.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMWorth the wait!We wanted to go to the Girl & the Goat for my birthday at the end of April, but couldn't get a table for 4 until May 13th - and at that, 4:45 PM. Well, we had heard a lot of wonderful things about the restaurant and we were very excited to go. The dinner was lovely - all shared plates, each more wonderful than the last. Our waiter expertly directed us through the menu based on the preferences of our guests. We sat at a really cool large table - broken into two groups of 4 - back by the cooking line - it was wonderful - the staff were having a great time preparing the food - and the ambiance was warm and inviting yet felt industrial with its large timber posts, old timber tables and coal grates behind the bar. Go there. And fast.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing as alwaysAlways a treat. the food, service and ambience are amazing. And i always feel like I got a good deal on the meal.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMFull Of FlavorsThe dishes were delicioso and vibrant. Every bite was well balance with flavor and color. My only small complaint was the scallop dish was a bit salty for us.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat tasting foodI only wish i lived in chicago so I could try some of the other items. Great price value and the 5 selections our waitress suggested could not have been better5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMWorth the hypeIncredible experience...one of the best meals we've EVER had. Marnie, our server, was fantastic...very genuine, cool, and well informed. Yes it's tight, energetic, etc. etc...but for us it was part the charm.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Atmosphere, Food . . . meh.I give it a very good overall rating for the service and the atmosphere that the restaurant and staff creates. It was the food that surprised me. Two out of the four dishes were overly salty and overwhelmed the food. The other two were good, but considering the wait for a reservation and cost, it was not as impressive as we were expecting. Realizing we are in minority here in this opinion - maybe an off night?5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMA culinary delightThis restaurant has been getting high praise and it is well-deserved. Everything I ate was spectacular with the exception of a salad item that was rather bitter. This is a great spot to try something you have never eaten before; it will be prepared well. Among other things, I had the fries, the cauliflower and the broccoli. They were superb. When this place is busy, it is very loud, making conversation difficult. But, it has great energy and is casual and sophisticated all at the same time.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat place!Food was great - very interesting menu. I went out of my comfort zone on a few dishes. Definitely worth the two month wait!5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMTher timing of the food deliveryTher timing of the food delivery to the table was flawless. Very knowlegeable wait staff and very attentive water refills and dish clearing5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMVery SatisfiedMy friend had recommended this place to me before. Needing to place a reservation 2 months ahead was well worth the wait. I tried food items I would'nt have though of eatting before. One mis-hap came about, but was handled properly and professionally by the server and manager. I would absolutely recommend Girl & the Goat to anybody who has an interest in trying some new foods. One thing to keep in mind though, it is all small plates. It is pretty costly for not a lot of food, but well worth the price!5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMamazingloved it. had the chef's table, all the chef's were fantastic5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent but not for a "meal"The food was excellent for both taste and show. Excellent service and accommodations. I would recommend Girl and the Goat but caution diners that it is for good food and fun--but not for a traditional "meal." This isn't an appetizer, entree, dessert meal. This is a let-me-try-that-it-looks-good-try-this fun place with unique flavor combinations and artful small plates to share.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMeverything was great excepteverything was great except one dish. the green bean was too salty. I couldn't stop drinking water after i ate that.
pig face was awsome!!5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing MealMade our reservations 3 months in advance, since we were coming from CA on a weekend trip. The restaurant called a day in advance to confirm our reservation, which I truly appreciated. The place was packed, but we arrived about 10 minutes early and were seated immediately. The food was AMAZING. Had the sourdough bread w/ garlic oil & ramp butter, goat empanadas, grilled broccoli, beef cheeks, pork shank, and the kulfi (for two, definitely went hungry). Everything was spot on. For the amount of food we had and the quality, I'd say this was a bargain. When we visit Chicago again I'll be sure to see what Chef Izard is cooking up!5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMWorth travelling from CanadaMy husband and I just travelled from Canada and based our trip around reservations at this restaurant. WORTH every penny! Absolutley devine menu choices, you really can't go wrong. Very reasonablly priced. Just loved it.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMUnique in a good wayMy second time here and just as good as the first time. Unique food selections, but all quite delicious. I'll be going back here again.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMSpecial Date NightMy wife and I were celebrating a special occasion and date night all in one. I was lucky enough to get a reservation that just so happened to pop up on Open Table when I checked. All of the food was excellent and had wonderful, unique flavors. We especially loved dessert--the butterscotch bread pudding (one of the best desserts we have ever had). We will definitely be coming back and will highly recommend the Girl & the Goat from our experience.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything I expectedI had octopus, escargot, and goat neck. My only regret is not being able to try more of the menu. I'll be back for more the next chance I get!4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMJust alright foodI enjoyed the food; however, it is definitely for foodies - between the dipping sauces and the extra items they include in meals, it wasn't fit for someone who just wants some homemade food (which is what I was expecting).
Food wasn't awful, I just probably would not go there again.4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMVeronica of the waitstaffVeronica of the waitstaff was very friendly and very well informed. Thank you!
The potato won ton is a new favorite. The chocolate cake with rhubarb is hands down the best desert I have ever had.
It takes a culinary genius to get my husband to eat vegetables... and he RAVED about the green beans.
The evening was worth the two month wait for a reservation.4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMdeliciousFood is always fantastic, servers are knowledgeable and friendly. Waitstaff knowledgable and helpful.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the best food experiencesOne of the best food experiences we have had the opportunity to enjoy. Highly recommend. Our waitress forgot one dish, but we did not need it!4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMI was somewhat intimidatedI was somewhat intimidated by the menu at first, but this was unfounded due to an excellent server who guided us through a fantastic dining experience. Flavors, textures, and visuals were unique and outstanding.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMwonderful food/ great serviceMy husband and I are vegetarians and found that there were many options to choose from. We went on a Monday night, it was incredibly busy and also loud. We went with two family members who ate meat, however, we had no problem sharing most all of the dishes. The server was extremely pleasant and a joy to work with. He asked us in the beginning if we had any diet restrictions and he steered us clear of anything that did not fit the profile. We had a great meal and a wonderful experience. The only fault was the noise from the surrounding tables, at times it was hard to hear our party. All and all a great dining experience with wonderful food and service.4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMSmall plates, unique options,Small plates, unique options, VERY good! Our server was also super attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable!4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMAn adventureOur waitress was attentive and friendly without hovering. Food was unusual and innovative.4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were visiting from outWe were visiting from out of town and had seen this restaurant on the "Top 30 Restaurants in the US" list - worth the hype! Great menu and wine list, wonderful service. I had escargot ravioli for God's sake! Very fun dining experience.4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMHow was it? It's the GirlHow was it? It's the Girl and the Frikken' Goat. It was spectabulous. We liked every dish we had. There were crazy good flavor combinations all over the place. Why yes, I do like pickled rhubarb with my dessert, thank you. The service was well paced, friendly, casual and expert. Loved the casual atmosphere. And the stunner was the price. We ate really well for just over 110 (without tip). We had 6 plates, 1 dessert and 2 drinks. I was expecting almost twice that.
Worth the wait, (2 plus months for prime time reservations), the valet parking and the price. Every bit!4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMA unique delightBe sure to ask your server his/her recommendations, they haven't steered us wrong yet. Go for the pork shank and the pig face, both have that great balance of rich, crunchy fatty meat. The breads are fresh baked with unique butters, vinaigrettes, etc. The ham frites are a treat - not to salty, yet the bacon grease gives them a mild smokey flavor. Be sure to leave room for dessert. The milk chocolate pound cake was a hit.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was delicious and serviceFood was delicious and service was outstanding.
It was just too noisy and we sat to close to our neighbors.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food and atmosphere.Great food and atmosphere. Small portions and expensive. Regardless, of where you are, with whom you dine, and or time of the day, you will be enjoy Chef Izard's culinary treats. The highlight was the miso-butterscotch budino, which layers different crunches within velvety cream and butterscotch sauce. An absolute YUM!4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMAbsolutely met expectations!Food was really delicious, especially loved the Kohlrabi Salad and the Miso Butterscotch dessert. The cocktails were also wonderful. Our server was also very friendly and helpful!
Only complaint would be that a couple of the dishes came out faster than we wanted and we didn't have time to digest/ discuss....4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMWorth the waitThe food was wonderful and unique and did not dissappoint. Our groups favorites included the brocolli and cheese bread, the scallops and the goat empanadas.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
