The room itself echoes the casual, rustic atmosphere of the main dining room and is host to the restaurant's wine and liquor stock - don't be surprised if you see the hardworking bar staff sneak in a few times to keep things rolling upstairs. Chef Stephanie Izard will design a family-style menu for you (dietary restrictions will not be ignored) and our beverage director will recommend wine, beer and/or a signature cocktail to match what Stephanie comes up with.

  • "This was one of the best meals I've ever experienced. Food was exceptional, and the staff was incredible. Can't wait to go again!"

  • "I came to Girl & The Goat because the surprising ingredient on the menu and I did get surprise especially the goat cheese and the goat liver. But one thing my friends and I got very annoyed about was that we waited for way too long for our food. I waited over 40 mins for my pork face."

  • "Twice I've had delightful experiences at Girl and the Goat; but this last occasion really wowed me. If you're a Chicagoan, you have to make reservations now."

  • "I have eaten here at least three times and I keep going back for more. Each visit I get the famous Pig Face and order different dishes so that I can explore their menu for myself. I've probably gone through more than half of the menu and I have yet to try something that didn't make me swoon. Veggies, fish, meat, ALL GOOD. Go there hungry, go there full, there's always some glorious dish you can eat."

  • "I have been dying to try this spot, and it is well worth getting your reservations far in advance. Excellent service, ambiance, and food. My friends and I love the small plates / sharing, so we were able to try different items. Per a recommendation, we went with one of the breads to begin- delicious. The cauliflower was amazing, and the salmon was phenomenal. Goat empanadas were also great! No complaints, and will definitely be back! Only observation- it was fairly noisy over the dinner hour. Not a complaint, just an observation."

  • "I had high expectations for this experience. I was able to land a Monday 5:30 reservation. I was amazed at how packed it was. The available tables were slim. I chose a table beside the bar and bypassed the table near a family with several crying infants. I was instructed to order all my dishes at once, all five plates. Although the food was tasty, the food was a bit overcooked. After a week and don't recall what I ordered. The restaurant was very loud and it was difficult to have a conversation with my guest. Good for the Goat it was packed, because one less girl will never be missed."

  • "THE "MANAGER" CAME BY AND ASKED IF WE WERE ENJOYING OUR MEAL. WE WERE EATING OUR DESSERT. WE SAID YES. HE MOTIONED TO THE WAITER TO GET US OUT. THE NEXT THING WE KNEW, THE CHECK WAS ON OUR TABLE. WE FELT VERY RUSHED."

  • "Who knew roasted cauliflower would be my favorite thing on the menu!?"

  • "We had a really fantastic experience! Got seated at the table attached the kitchen which was a really fun, unexpected experience. Our waiter was knowledgeable and had great recommendations for us. We shared the corn fed bread, chickpea fritter, squash blossom rangoons, pan roasted halibut, confit goat belly (had to try goat while we were here, this was amazing), sauteed green beans and miso-butterscotch budino for dessert which was by far the best dessert I've ever had! Definitely 5 stars!"

  • "The staff is really helpful and friendly. My wife and I went for our anniversary and were greeted kindly by the hostess. We were given the option to sit outside (which is a large communal table, but has plenty of space to keep your party separate from others). The food was terrific, definitely would recommend the rangoon, goat loin, beef ribs, and halibut. Five dishes were plenty for the two of us to split in addition to one shared dessert. I would definitely recommend Girl and the Goat to people who appreciate a well thought out menu."

  • "We had a phenomenal meal at Girl & the Goat. I'd definitely go back. Everything was delicious; servings were surprisingly generous; service was friendly and competent; drinks were wonderful. Just an outstanding experience from start to finish."

  • "The food was packed with well-balanced, unique combinations of flavors. The portions were perfect - not too small, just large enough to share."

  • "Had extremely high hopes for this restaurant. Went with my husband and another couple. The alternative music playing (sounded like WXRT) was very loud and it inhibited us from talking at a normal tone. We asked if some of the dishes can be altered due to allergies. The waitress came back with a menu marked up based on what we cannot have (which was 80% of the menu). Having a chef at this caliber, I would think that they could alter some of the dishes. Perhaps, the food is precooked and unable to alter?? Although the food that we had was good, I would consider it over rated "tapas" at best. Ambience was dark and loud."

  • "Went here for our anniversary and the servers were very informative and knew about the menu. Got the chick pea fritters crab tempura and halibut. Halibut was the big start and the tempura was nice. Ordered the date cake with gelato for dessert. The dessert was below average not doing justice to place. All in all a great experience"

  • "We could only get in night, but worth the wait. 25 minute walk from the langham, pretty loud, great service. Food was good, but sometimes overly complicated.... like they are trying to create totally new dishes rather than just doing something very well. For dessert we had the recommended boudin, which I found to sweet and with too many competing flavors and textures."

  • "food small portions over priced left starving there one one thing we liked and it was the rolls other than that nothing exciting or good about this place. Save your time and money there are so many other great places to eat at in Chicago"

  • "If you like your food smoked then you will love Girl & The Goat. If you don't like hickory smoked flavor in your meals then you will not be happy. Lot's of interesting choices on the menu, however, I think they have tried too hard to be different. I like trying different items like the Beef Tongue and the Octopus but neither was as impressive as I was hoping for and I was a little disappointed."

  • "Girl and the Goat is the current hot spot in Chicago; reserve WELL in advance, or be prepared to eat very early or very late. The atmosphere is warehouse casual and noisy, not the place for romantic conversation. It is the food that stars here. Served in small plates, the choices in the greens, fish and meat categories were extensive, and each one was more interesting than the last. Our only mistake was taking the waiter's advice to order three or four dishes each; we are fairly small eaters and could have been happy with two apiece. But we loved trying it all: beet salad, octopus, scallops, goat belly, pig face and green beans and gave our boxed leftovers to the couple next to us since we were traveling. A wonderful, inventive meal!"

  • "We were celebrating my husband's 30th birthday and we had an awesome time!! Food was amazing, service was really great (server went above and beyond) and atmosphere was cool! Really enjoyed ourselves and will return again!"

  • "I won't lie, there were a number of things that I probably wouldn't try if it hadn't been for the rave reviews. We had the need tongue with masa, lamb stuffed calamari, ham frites, and confit goat belly. Needless to say we couldn't finish it all, but the highlight for me was the lamb stuffed calamari. I generally do not eat seafood of any kind except some occasional light sushi, but this was fantastic. The flavors blended fantastically. For dessert we tried the chocolate and gelato. The gelato had a basil flavor which when paired with the chocolate and blackberries was absolutely top notch. The food was something different and very enjoyable. For drinks I had the bolt action and thought enough to get a second."

  • "It took us booking 6 weeks out to get a reservation, yet it was well worth the wait. Outstanding food and service. It is one of those places that when you are walking out the door, you wish you could get a reservation for again the following week. Top on our list to go back to. Casual, hip, fun foodie experience!"

  • "Best meal I have eaten in 2014. Been to Napa, Vegas, and SF and spent a lot more $ for a lot less quality food. Keep up the hard work G&G."

  • "Creative flavor combinations. Loved the octopus, the goat confit and the oysters. Would prefer a more interesting selection of wines by the glass. Small plates offer opportunity to try several menu selections."

  • "Took my girlfriend here for her birthday. The food was delectable-the best we had during our trip to Chicago and we tried to eat at all the best spots. The service was impeccable-you order everything at once and then they pace the dishes for you and explain each one as it arrives at the table. Each dish is full of flavors and presented absolutely beautifully. Finally, they even did a special dessert for my girlfriend's birthday. Excellent experience! Try the pork face and cauliflower dishes!"

  • "I reserved my July 14th table in April and was not disappointed. My server was extremely knowledgeable and helped me decide on both drinks and dinner. I was expecting an overly fancy environment and crowd but seemed to be over dressed in my shirt and tie. Look forward to the next reservation."

  • "We went not knowing what to expect. On our last two visits we had been happy but not blown away as we had been in the past. But this experience was truly extraordinary--from the service to the food. The trick we realized is not to load up on the bread--which is delicious--but fills you up and doesn't let you really dig into the food. The pork shank and pig face were wonderful as always, as was the miso budino dessert. Can't wait to go back!"

  • "While the restaurant is quite noisy, the food is so excellent and so reasonably priced for what it is that you simply won't care. Servers are attentive without being annoying and graciously accommodate any allergies or food issues you might have. Dishes are generally made to share, and you'll want to because it means you get to taste more. They recommend 4-5 dishes for two people, and that is accurate. Everything from the homemade breads to the desserts are crafted with creativity and taste. Flavor combinations are surprising and surprisingly good. The pickled peppers are amazing, so order anything that includes them!"

  • "I had been waiting forever to get to try Girl and the Goat so when a last minute reservation opened up, I jumped on it. The small plates were great. I was so glad we got to try so many dishes. The rhubarb dessert abs scallops were my favorite but the miso bread and host con fit were also excellent. My biggest complaint would be the noise level. It was hard to carry on a normal conversion at times. Overall the meal was solid and lived up to my expectations!"

  • "This place is great! The food is perfect, if you're in Chicago. You have to try and get a table."

  • "Unfortunately my dinner did not live up to my expectations. Service was very rushed even though we had a very late reservation and there wasn't anyone waiting for our table when we finished. We ordered 6 things. 1 of them was outstanding, 3 were good, 1 was fair and 1 was poor (the flank steak--tough, flavorless, and a very small portion). Our waitress was unfriendly and brusque. We were just beginning our dessert when she came by and banged the wooden check holder down next to our dessert. Probably my biggest restaurant pet peeve is to have my check put down while I'm still eating. It's a great space and we enjoyed the ambience, but I think there's some work to do with some of their dishes and at least one of their servers."

  • "We had reservations @ 10:30 & arrived @ 10:15. We were told a table already paid the bill but were still sitting so we had to wait-We waited until 10:55. They did not even apologize once but after we decided to ask why it was taking so long they said we were next. They gave us one of the breads w/butter as a compliment. We ordered about 10 plates. Props to 3 plates we would have again:octopus, scallops, oysters. The rest were average to say the least.Ultimate worst was the pig face. This was so horrible we left the plate intact. Pure fat w/bad hotdog fries and an egg on top. This was supposed to be their best plate and it was not even tasty. Two of us had a terrible stomach ache the whole night.Would not even describe it as a mediocre breakfast"

  • "We were stuck in Friday evening rush hour traffic. We appreciated their holding our reservations. The service and food were outstanding, we especially loved the green beans, halibut and piggy face. We had reservations at City Winery for music and they were able to serve our meal in a timely fashion. We look forward to going there again."

  • "We went to The Girl and the Goat with high expectations. We did not enjoy it as we had expected. The level of noise is very high, so you end up yelling across the table. We ordered too much food at the recommendation of our server. Our of eight plates we loved four. The halibut is delicious, so is the brownie with vanilla ice cream with basil and the Goat empanadas were excellent, another favorite were the pot stickers."

  • "We sat at the Chef's Table, so we were able to watch & interact with the kitchen staff. Makes you appreciate the work & care that goes into each dish. Everything was outstanding & we felt the food hit all the flavor profiles. Highlights: kohlrabi salad: light, crunchy, soft, perfect for summer. Halibut: perfectly cooked, flavorful, made you want to lick the plate. Roasted pig face: a comfort breakfast at a whole new level - just get it!! Dessert: butterscotch budino: butterscotch, bacon toffee, glazed pineapple, candied cashews - what's not to like? Get your own, you won't want to share!"

  • "We knew of the outstanding reputation of this restaurant so went in with high expectations .. amazingly all of which were exceeded. Our server Alison (Al Green) did a wonderful job explaining the menu, how the dishes would be served and ensuring we would have dairy free options and side preparations for our daughter. The dishes we ordered were all exquisite bursting with a wonderful balance of flavors, they were delivered in the chef's preferred sequence at just the right interval with each dish being piping hot when served. Every dish we had was outstanding but the standouts were the fried naked cowboys, cauliflower, hamachi, halibut, pig face and the pork shank. Best of three got our vote as the best cocktail. Thank you Alison !!!!"
