  • Special Events & Promotions: The Underground Goat, our 18 person private dining room, is not your typical private dining space and the name encapsulates exactly what you're looking forward to. Located under the main dining room, you and your guests will be lead downstairs, through the restaurant and into the "staff only" halls of the Goat. The room itself echoes the casual, rustic atmosphere of the main dining room and is host to the restaurant's wine and liquor stock - don't be surprised if you see the hardworking bar staff sneak in a few times to keep things rolling upstairs. Chef Stephanie Izard will design a family-style menu for you (dietary restrictions will not be ignored) and our beverage director will recommend wine, beer and/or a signature cocktail to match what Stephanie comes up with.

  • "What can I say but w0w! We finally made it to this "too good to be true" foodie mecca in Chicago and we were not disappointed. Each dish played with all of our senses. We started with a loaf of tomato and rosemary bread served with tomato oil and salted cream cheese served with a bottle of Failla 2012 pinot noir, followed by goat empanadas, pig face (its important to mush up the egg, pig and sauces together to get the full experience), glazed pork shank (a stunning dish) and a side order of cauliflower (sliced and then grilled and served with pine nuts). We tried the "house favorite" short cake served with pineapple and caramel followed by goat cheese and dessert wine. Service was attentive and helpful. We are coming back on our next trip."

  • "Fantastic meal was had!!! We tried several dishes I'd never have thought to try and even my kids, ages 13, tasted and enjoyed it. I'd never have guessed they would eat duck tongue or berg tongue but they did and thought they were the best ones. The ham frites are to die for and the pigs face was luxury on a plate. It was our first visit to Chicago from DC and we choose Chicago because we wanted to try Stephanie's place. Well done!!!"

  • "Excellent food, very good service, moderately priced. Makes you realize that cooking is an art too!! We had the Corn Fed Bread, Roasted Beetroots, Goat Shoulder, Wild Salmon and Bittersweet Chocolate for dessert. We topped it with an Espresso (the best I have had in this country). Every dish was well made and flavorful. The goat dish may not be to everyone' pallette but I grew up in India where meat means goat meat. I will go back to the place everytime I have to visit Chicago. Would recommedn this palce to anyone visiting Chicago."

  • "My friends and I were visiting from DC, and this place had come highly recommended by friends. It didn't disappoint; in fact, it surpassed expectations. The only reservation we could get was at 11:30pm on Friday. We arrived a little bit early and when three seats at the bar opened up, we opted to eat there and cancel our table reservations. The bartender was incredibly helpful and personable, providing strong recommendations with helpful commentary and details about each dish. The food came out at a good pace, and everything we had was deeply satisfying on some level. We decided afterwards that it was probably some of the best food we've tasted, anywhere."

  • "This is my favorite restaurant ever. Great place to try some delicious foods you are unlikely to find other places. I recommend getting bread, the cauliflower, the broccoli, the pig's face, the goat empanadas, and scallops. The Budino is one of my favorite desserts anywhere and the Best of Three is the best cocktail I've ever had. The menu can be overwhelming, but we found that servers were eager to explain the dishes. This place is very unpretentious and fun, but it was very loud and not always easy to talk to my spouse. We were disappointed with the goat loin, which was very chewy."

  • "The cauliflower was amazing! The zucchini bread dessert, a true delight! The pinot grigio was a refreshing, crisp addition to our meal. The server was personable and professional without over doing any of it. But the rest..... well... we could have done without. The oysters were bland, the hamachi was poorly paired with 'crisp pork belly' (we get the craze, but this was an unflattering combination), and the goat (The Goat!) was not remotely memorable. Overall, a lovely evening due to the company and service staff, but the food itself did not warrent the expense or a need to return."

  • "We really wanted to write a good review on the food but we can't...Great building, great service, but we felt like we should be buying a T-Shirt that says "I ate at the Girl & The Goat." We are sure this is a popular place because of the Chef being a minor celebrity, but we can name 30 restaurants in the Midwest that top the food served here. Come here if you want to say you went, but don't go if you want to have a meal that moves you. Sorry."

  • "The only reservation we could get was 10:15 and considering the hype surrounding his place, we were prepared for a high level of pretentiousness and for the staff to rush us through our meal, but that was not the case at all! Our server was laid back, but energetic and made wonderful recommendations and timed our plates perfectly. Two of us shared the sepia, goat liver mousse, scallops, and the halibut. Each plate lived up to the hype, but be warned, the goat liver mousse is VERY filling dish and might be best for a larger group. The music is loud and makes for a fun night out, but might not be the best place if one is seeking an intimate meal. Overall, I would recommend."

  • "I could reserve only at my 3rd visit to Chicago. It increased my expectations maybe too much. It is one of the restaurants taking advantage of today fashion for Masterchef and similar. The place is not crowded because of their food (here it is EXTREMELY GOOD) but because you must go there and then you feel right. At my age and with decades of interest in food and wines I do not buy into these places. The noise level doesn't allow you to talk to your companion, 3 dishes brought immediately at the table and the 4th came in after 40 minutes, the bread also came after 30 minutes, the wine (as I told the waiter) had no defects hence I did not feel like rejecting it but it was a shame for the list of such a restaurant to have it. I won't go back"

  • "My husband and I dined here during our anniversary trip to Chicago. I made the reservation about 3 months in advance and I'm glad that I did because it was packed (on a Tuesday!) and we were able to sit at the coveted chef's table. First time in my life that my favorite dish of the evening was green beans! Our waitress told us when we ordered "these are not your mother's green beans". She couldn't have been more correct! The duck breast was also perfect. Great local beers on tap. I would recommend everyone try this fabulous restaurant when in Chicago."

  • "Very delicious food, vegetable dishes have huge portions compared to the others. Flavors in each dish are great, but I would recommend having a server help plan your meal. While my dishes were individually tasty, they did not pair that well with each other. (My party chose without the aid of our waitress). I would recommend this as a special occasion, as it can get expensive. Loved the music and atmosphere!"

  • "We went with 9 people and it was amazing! They serve their food family style, so we were able to try almost everything on their menu. I would definitely recommend going with more people than less as it will allow you to try more options! Definitely a place to go if you are adventurous with your food selections, don't come here if you are a picky eater. The only reason the service go 3/5 stars was because our waitress seemed annoyed with our suggestion of getting 2 of every plate. Like I mentioned above, we got 1 of almost every plate and we were STUFFED. It would have been silly for us to get 2 of everything and only try half the amount of dishes!"

  • "I make multiple trips to Chicago each year and had heard great things about this place, so decided to take my colleagues for a late dinner after our flights in town. We picked a few dishes (crispy broccoli, octopus, short ribs, and the dumplings) to share for a main course and I think we were surprised at how much we like the veggie dishes. We had the bittersweet chocolate and some cake dish for dessert- all with no complaints. Overall, it was a great experience. The staff was friendly, chic, and well kempt (which can be an issue in trendy spots). Will go back, but after I go to Little Goat first."

  • "As I first stepped in, I was immediately put off by the very loud 90's hits playing on the speakers. It immediately sets an expectation for mood and made conversation, or understanding the waitress very difficult. The space was huge and felt unfriendly. The rustic look was nice but clearly out of place and inconsistent. An enormous, and somewhat creepy painting done in swirling neon sticks out in your peripheral and becomes incredibly distracting. Otherwise the food was fantastic, service was quick and responsive also. I would go back if the ambience wasn't so jarring."

However, the decor and ambiance of the restaurant is very nice. Suitable for family, work related or meals with friends. Drinks were good and service was awesome."

  • "I am now an oyster convert! Wood smoked with bacon, you can understand how that makes anything good, even my nemesis the oyster! We shared 10 plates amongst 4, and each one was delicious. A good mix between fresh light food and the odd indulgence. We didn't have the goat leg, but will be back for it!"

  • "On the recommendation of a good friend, we made a reservation at Girl & the Goat for dinner. With one individual among us who doesn't eat red meat and one who can't eat shellfish and two who don't eat fish, finding something to please everyone was tricky. Two of us enjoyed the experience thoroughly, and expanded our taste buds. Three were politely silent on their opinion of the restaurant. The Goat empanadas were delicious, as was the roasted broccoli. The halibut was fabulous; tasty, moist and tender! I'm told the scallops were amazing. I'm the one who loves but can't eat shellfish. Our server, Taylor, was extremely helpful in guiding our choices for our first visit."

  • "The concept of the shared plate was a lot of fun. The food was just amazing. The wait staff was constantly bringing our next plate. It was a bit like opening a present as each plate was served because the meals were so unique that we were eager to discover them together. The presentation of the food was outstanding, the unexpected combinations in each dish made us curious taste testers. The atmosphere was fun and happening. Would highly recommend it!"

  • "This was our fourth time dining here and the first time with some foodie out-of-town pals. The wine steward recommended a crazy good red to start and our server was charming and fun. We tried almost everything and I swear each plate was better than the next. Our friends were blown away by the lively atmosphere, the excellent food and great service. We finished the night with the embarrassingly touristy request for a picture with Ms. Izard and she was gracious and genuine. Each time we have been here, Stephanie has been on the line - that is a testament to her commitment to quality and it shows by the still hard-to-get reservations."

  • "Specifically went to this restaurant bc I'm a top chef fan and wanted to try Stephanie's dishes. We ordered quite a bit for variety and every dish was amazing. The miso bread, peppers, mixed olives, halibut, caramel dessert and brownie dessert were all to die for. Service was amazing with one dish quickly following the next in perfect sequence. Some dishes were not "fancy" but the flavors were just right and seasonings spot on. $200 tab for 3 and 3 drinks but definitely worth a splurge."

  • "The two adjectives that embody this place are TASTY and NOISY. When I inquired about what might be light I was told everything was "heavy fat". Probably why it was so tasty. We sat across from each other and literally resorted to texting to avoid yelling. All dishes are meant to be shared and it was suggested to order 2-3 items each (apps & veggies, fish, meats) and they would pace it. For just the two of us I'd say 4 total would have been PLENTY! The halibut and cauliflower were the best. The much-touted "pig face" was just TOO much fat!! Virtually EVERYTHING is cooked then fried and our GI tracts suffered 5-6 hours later. A surprise for our anniversary was the budino dessert. FABULOUS!!! We also had ordered the chocolate thing- blah."

  • "The cauliflower was stiff and hard, not at all tender or fresh tasting. Some of the seafoods seemed to be buried in innovative sauces just to mask its true taste Ie.halibut & sea scallop with blueberries ? New food is kinda like religion ...when there's all that buzz you want to have an open mind and try it for yourself ...in case there really was something good you're missing. Verdict is no..it's all just different version to cook food and fine if you want to experiment but nothing is better than old fashioned freshness ..doesn't matter what kind, cooked minimally with fresh ingredients...amen!!"

  • "We were going on vacation to Chicago and wanted to eat at Stephanie Izard's restaurant, being a huge Top Chef fan. There was only one reservation left for the week that we were going. Even the staff at our hotel said that I was lucky to get a reservation. It was a rainy night but we had a great time indoors at this restaurant. Food is served family style and my husband (who is not a foodie) is still raving about the duck breast. Noise level is high but for a night out with friends or family it is a great choice. Without a reservation, people were waiting for 2 hours for the possibility of a table and we were there on a Monday. if you go to Chicago or live there, you must eat here at least once."
