Girl & the GoatAwesome!I've dined all over the world and I must admit, Girl and the Goat may in fact be the best meal that I've ever had. Flavors simply bloom in your mouth...every single time. Food, service, ambience -- Stephanie seems to have it all down to a tee (or shall I say a goat?)6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMWorth the waitSnagged a reservation for our larger group months out - dinner was worth the wait. Ordered a little of everything, the highlights were the pig face, pork belly & a great dessert. Will definitely try to go back.6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMamazing flavor and great portionsIm not used to US hughe portions, here is the perfect size with the perfect taste. Crispy and tasteful food. Even though we ate at the bar the service was great and the speed amazing.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMrapid fire foodThe food was great, our waitress friendly but the food came out much too quickly and we felt we were racing to eat it before it got cold. We told one of the servers (who brought the first dish to us) that we were to get bread before the first dish, he shrugged it off and said it would come soon. When the next server brought our 2nd dish and we told him about the bread he went back and got it. When our waitress finally came by to check on us we told her about the situation of rapid food delivery, she slowed it down for the last 2 of the 7 dishes we ordered. It was hard to savor and appreciate the food at this pace.
The experience would have been sooo much more enjoyable if we had well paced food.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMBest things I've ever eaten.I was sceptical about some of the menu items but tried every dish my husband ordered and was BLOWN AWAY6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat food, better serviceas delicious as the food was, the service was even better. goat empanadas were the best thing we ordered, but the goat carpaccio, pretzel bread, oysters, and lamb tartare were amazing. I also found my summer drink thanks to my server!6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMWasn't what i expectedWent there for my birthday with my family and had about 8 dishes all together not including dessert. Great service but the food wasnt as great as id expected it to be. Soft shell crab and esgargot ravioli lacked flavor. My favorite items were the ham frites and scallops. Our veggies were well prepares but the meat, except for the goat belly (pretty good) lacked flavor and didnt rrally stand out to me. Beautiful restaurant but wouldnt go back for what we paid for.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMcreative and originalhaving to make a reservation 3 months in advance was already adding to the anticipation, but when we got there and actually tasted the food, everything started to make sense why the 3 month reservation was necessary. everything was spectacularly new and original. the menu held dishes that were all hidden gems and made us want to try all of them. i like the fact that there isn't just a simple option for a burger or chicken fingers, so it really makes you dig into the finer sides of food that most people don't bother venturing into. my boyfriend had soft shell crab for the first time; for not being a seafood fan, he loved it. the green beans and cauliflowers are a must try. i can't wait to go back in 3 months again!6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMLived Up To ExpectationsStaff made the experience a success from the start...quick overview of the concept and recommendations on ordering and what to expect. Menu gives a good sense of what to expect; staff has a great knowledge of the menu and keeps a close eye on timing of service that allows leisurely tasting/sharing but keeps the service moving to avoid lags in the experience. Good wine list with good choices at all price points.
Our favorites were the scallops, beef tongue and goat loin although evey dish was interesting and well nuanced. The smoked baby octopus had a touch too much smoke for our taste, but that's subjective. The desert menu is small but adequate and we'd recommend the butterscotch/miso and the chocoloate/rhubarb...outstanding.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMWorth the WaitThere's not much to say that hasn't been said already, but it was an amazing experience! The dishes are very mixed which is difficult if you are dining with someone who doesn't eat specific items (my date didn't eat pork, making some appetizing items like the escargot ravioli off-limits). The cocktail selection also left a little to be desires - when I finally settled on the blood & goats (which included whiskey and some cherry juice), I was happy with how it was executed, but I did desire a bit more selection. Waitress was very knowledgeable but forgot to put in our order for goat empanadas, which we didn't realize until an hour and a half into our reservation, so we just skipped them, sadly. I guess we'll just have to go back!6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMTop 5 dining experiencesJust an unreal level of flavors, fun, and execution. A must-visit spot!6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMFood and service were exceptional.Food and service were exceptional. We absolutely loved sitting at the expo table. Thank you so much for accomodating my 3 year old! It was a fantastic night.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMSolidI have dined at G&G a dozen time and it is hands down the best restaurant in the City.......6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMMy absolute favorite placeI live in chi and Girl and the goat is my absolute favorite restaurant, I took a foodie friend visiting from out of town and she just found out she was pregnant so no night out at the clubs for us, Instead I booked a table at girl and the goat. I mentioned to the maitre'd that it was my friends birthday and we got to sit at the chef's table right in front of the prep line! Awesome experience. The waiter was timely attentive and the food was a work of art. The only problem with the girl and the goat is that its a hard act to beat when you host out of towners. Im warning you save it for the last night. Or hear at every restaurant after "its not as good as that girly goat place"6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything was perfect exceptEverything was perfect except for the noise level.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMGood Food, Inventive, OverpricedThis restaurant has a lot going for it. A rotating and interesting menu, a fun and vibrant atmosphere, decent service. To me, however, it seems like the kitchen relies on heavy sauces to make their food "delicious." If I am going to pay a premium for my food, I want to taste it. The green beans, for example, come with a healthy criss-cross dousing of what looked and tasted to be a mayo based gravy. All in all I will probably go back, but it is not a6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMContinues to be outstandingContinues to be outstanding and creative. Don't be afraid to try things you may not think you would like----like goat belly or broccoli.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome outingVibrant and lively atmosphere coupled with delightful and knowledgeable service made for an awesome outing. The food choices are not for the faint-hearted, but all ingredients are fresh and cooked to perfection. The plates are made for sharing adding to the fun. A memorable experience.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMWorth the wait!Had made reservations months prior for myself and 3 friends b/c we live in the neighborhood and have heard such good things. It was definetly worth the wait. Great atmosphere, great staff, and awesome food. Was good to go in a group of 4 bc we all ordred a couple dishes and then got to try a bit of everything! Will def be going back!6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMChristmas in JuneSpectacular. But everyone in Chicago, and probably the rest of the US already knows that. We had a spectacular meal there, using part of the gift cards from Christmas. Took 3 months to get in, but well worth the wait. Courteous friendly service, despite the non=stop action all day long in this fine place. We were told we had the best table in the house, which turned out to be the kitchen table, right off the kitchen, so we got to meet several of the staff and watch how they prepared some of the special dishes. We had a spectacular wood fired broccoli dish, a great pan roasted cauliflower, goat empanadas and pork shank. Great, food, excellent wine selection, and top notch service. What's not to love? .6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious! The food was excellent - my only complaint is that I will have to keep coming back to not only get to the whole menu, but to sample the seasonal/daily/weekly specials. Delicious! The food was quite rich, but served in portions that will keep you from eating yourself stupid!6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent as usual!Tried some old favorites and found some new ones. The special plates and barrel aged cocktails were a nice addition to the regular menu. Can't wait for the next visit!6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent FoodI eat out at a lot of "foodie" restaurants all over the country...we love the Bon Appetit recommendations as well as Top Chef. This is season 4's TC winner. Food is amazingly wonderful. Hard to get reservations here but once in they rush you more than I have ever experienced in a restaurant. We felt pressured to hurry and get out. Turn and Burn is Girl and the Goat's goal. Hey, they can do it, lots of people still want to get in. The worst part was the manager walking around with a clip board and counting tables and people at tables.....really??? Food is excellent and I will probably not go back. To many restaurants in Chicago that are truly as outstanding as this one.6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGo to the Goat!Waited for awhile before trying this resto and it definitely lived up to all the hype. Food was excellent, wine list was outstanding and the service was impeccable. It was a total experience.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMI have eaten here 2 otherI have eaten here 2 other times and sat by the front window, the noise, level was, tolerable.
We were in the middle,of,the restaurant and you could not hear table conversation.
I love the kohlrabi salad however the kohlrabi is usually sliced paper thin it was not paper thin and it was less enjoyable.
We shared the goat, leg with 6 people with a nice portion to,take home. The goat leg never disappoints.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing place!Really nice combos of small plates! We had a wonderful expereince and will come back again.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMexcellent food and servicei came super late for my reservation, but the hostess still held my table despite how ridiculously busy they were. the staff was very professional and friendly, and not in the phony condescending manners of employees at other restaurants.
the food was nothing short of excellent, my favorites were the escargot ravioli and the pineapple budino for dessert.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellentLived up to the hype and our server was fantastic, with great suggestions!5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMFood AdventureIf you are willing or wanting to try new things Girl & The Goat is a great place to go! The service was excellent, and the food delicious. I did not love everything I ate- but that is what happens when you try something new I think. Definitely worth waiting for a reservation and a trip into the city.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMPiggy faceI stalked OpenTable for a month to nab this reservation the day before my sister's birthday. Sure it was a late reservation 10:30. And we weren't seated until 11:00 but as long as the cooks were still in the kitchen, I didn't mind dining late. I wished I had ordered more plates, but what I did sample , I enjoyed. We ordered two types of bread, kinda felt the cheese spread for one the breads was too "generic". Tasted fresh out the can. The oysters were good, the beet salad tasted even better the next day and the pig face once chopped up and blended to perfection tasted like an ethereal bacon omelet
The End5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMThe service was excellent,The service was excellent, the ambience was moody but fun, and the food was amazing. The oysters, diver scallops, and pig face (served with an egg on top!) were out of this world - all a must try!! The duck tongue was something different to try, but wasn't my favorite. Our waiter had perfect recommendations for us and really enhanced our dining experience. We ended with the best desert I've ever had in my life, the miso-butterscotch budino.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMGroup experienceThe opportunity to share so many different foods, prepared in such unexpected and delicious ways puts Girl & the Goat on a list I would recommend for anyone visiting Chicago. Sharing with a group is the way to go, as this will maximise the number of individual items you will be able to sample. Be aware that each dish varies considerably in portion, some almost enough for a full dinner, others, a small portion, even if thought of as an appetizer. Our first order of twelve selections for a group of 6 came out ot the kitchen over the span of 2+ hours, so plan to spend some time. The noise level does present challenges for cross table conversation, but I would not let that keep you from enjoying this experience.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMAbsolutelyListen to what the reviews have to say because they are all correct. This place is amazing5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMexceeds the hype! The food, service, and ambience, all exceed our expectations. We VERY happy with our entire dining experience.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food! The food was great! We had 2 A+ dishes - the cauliflower, and the baby octopus. Everything else ranged from B+ to A. We're tough, so that's very good.
It was really loud, which is common in very open, concrete restaurants. I'm at the point where noise kills ambience... Behind the food, the company and conversation at dinner is most important to me.
Our waiter was a C-. He didn't know much about the dishes or wine. For instance, their house wine, which was listed as a Petit Verdot blend, was of interest to me since I'm a lover of bordeaux. I was curious about the blend and just generally wanted to know more about this wine... He had no idea.
We'll be back, but we're hoping for a quieter table and a better server.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous as alwaysThe girl and the goat never disappoints. Every dish we tried was delicious and balanced. Our favorite was the crispy pork shank. The grilled kimchi really made the dish sparkle. We can't wait to come back!5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGirl & the Great! What a wonderful evening we had on our first tour of Girl & the Goat. The food was unique and phenomenal. The wait staff was attentive and helpful with recommendations. We lucked out sitting at one of two chef's tables facing the kitchen. It was such a unique experience getting to chat with the chefs as they prepared meals. It was an unforgettable evening.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMBirthday treasureI took my wife for her birthday. The only time slot we could get was an 8:30 on a Tuesday. We decided to try and go early, have a drink and hopefully get seated early. The bartenders were friendly and wonderful, mixing us great drinks. They sat us 45 minutes early on a packed night. They gave us one of the chefs table and we were really taken care of by our waiter Hunter and the kitchen staff. They made great recommendations and even gave us a few extra dishes to sample. This was a dining experience and not just a nice night out. Everything was amazing, but my favorite were the duck empanadas that were a special. I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant.5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMNot baaaaaaaaaad!Outstanding! The food was impeccable
and the service was terrific. It was a little
Too loud and tables were too close. To use
a Michelin Guide quote "It was worth the
journey." I went from South Carolina to Illinois!5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMG&G was very noisy. we couldn'tG&G was very noisy. we couldn't hear each other. we were stuck in a corner where we couldn't read the menu. the food was very good though - very creative and different. we had to pay for bread ($4) though. we got the bread with bake parmesan on top without knowing what we were getting. the bread menu didn't describe the bread (neither did our waitress). it was dry and hard and we had to dip into the dipping sauce in order to eat it. the menu of small dishes was good. we tried 1 veggie, 1 fish, 1 meat, 1 dessert and the bread which was enough for the two of us. we had to make reservations 3.5 mons in advance and got a 9:15pm reservation. luckily, we showed up early and was seated around 9pm.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMFamily of FourI had been hearing about Girl and the Goat for months from friends. When I tried getting a reservation a month ago, I was disappointed because I couldn't get a table for my date. I went online a week ago and the date and time were listed as available. We all anticipated our meal at Girl and the Goat and we were not disappointed. Great Meal! Loved sharing all the different dishes. We just made a reservation for our anniversary in a few months.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMGoat-tacular!Delicious! Innovative and fair priced. If there is any criticism it's that the place is loud, music, people, etc but can't blame the place they're PACKED! We were in town for 4 days and could only get reservations on a Saturday night at 10:30pm....late, but we wanted to try this place out, and SO GLAD we did! Definitely one of the hottest restaurants in Chicago. The food was amazing, fresh and interesting to say the least. Goat empanadas were to die for! If you're in Chicago....and/or consider yourself a foodie, this place is a MUST!!!5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMImpressive RestaurantTook my fiancé there for her birthday and it was an awesome culinary experience. Let me first start by informing you that in order to get a reservation for May 24th I booked on Febuary 28th! It's okay though, we understood going in how difficult it is to get reservations for specific date and it kinda adds to the excitement before you even get there. My fiancé is a true foodie and the menu is definitely for patrons like her. We thoroughly enjoyed the small plate selections and the service was top notch. The waitress even gave recommendations based on our first couple choices and suggestions on how to eat the items to get the full experience. I was completely impressed that a restaurant so highly touted was so accommodating. 5 stars.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic! If you're a foodie, this restaurant will remain the standard by which all other restaurants are judged! In a word, fantastic!5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding Food and ServiceGreat atmosphere excellent food and and overall great first time here. Read man reviews and the food and service were beyond my expectations.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMI went with two friends andI went with two friends and had a great time. The small plate shared concept is new to me. My favorite dishes were the duck tongue, halibut, and the pigface (although I wasn't sure about the egg). . The fritters with the chickpeas weren't as good as I expected. The bread was amazing and the dessert was yummy. I want to go back to try some of the other choices.
The price wasn't bad (I think for about $66pp with wine and coffee) The service was warm and friendly, and made the experience so much better.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of my new favorite restaurantsWe went for my husbands birthday. loved every single dish, all shared small plates. The confit goat belly with a bourbon butter sauce was delicious, I could have had 4 more servings of it. We will definitely be coming back5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMdelight for foodiesGirl & the goat once again amazed & delighted our tastebuds. Our waiter had been with the restaurant since day 1. We decided to let him choose our plates. He did a fabulous job mixing up hot/ cold/ veggie/ seafood/ meats. We did request the Pig Face, my favorite, which he assured us, would have been his choice as well. We were not rushed, had plenty of time to enjoy our several tasting plates. Can't wait to get back.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food but too noisyWe had a fabulous meal--the roasted cauliflower, beet salad, pork shank and grilled chicken were outstanding. But even at a two-top, my husband and I could not carry on a conversation because the restaurant is unbelievably noisy. We would consider going back with friends, except we wouldn't be able to hear each other talk. I realize this is part of the appeal for some people, but it really put us off.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMWas everything we were hoping plusWonderful experience, great food, outstanding service.5/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
