The room itself echoes the casual, rustic atmosphere of the main dining room and is host to the restaurant's wine and liquor stock - don't be surprised if you see the hardworking bar staff sneak in a few times to keep things rolling upstairs. Chef Stephanie Izard will design a family-style menu for you (dietary restrictions will not be ignored) and our beverage director will recommend wine, beer and/or a signature cocktail to match what Stephanie comes up with.

Diner Reviews
  • "We were stuck in Friday evening rush hour traffic. We appreciated their holding our reservations. The service and food were outstanding, we especially loved the green beans, halibut and piggy face. We had reservations at City Winery for music and they were able to serve our meal in a timely fashion. We look forward to going there again."

  • "Unfortunately my dinner did not live up to my expectations. Service was very rushed even though we had a very late reservation and there wasn't anyone waiting for our table when we finished. We ordered 6 things. 1 of them was outstanding, 3 were good, 1 was fair and 1 was poor (the flank steak--tough, flavorless, and a very small portion). Our waitress was unfriendly and brusque. We were just beginning our dessert when she came by and banged the wooden check holder down next to our dessert. Probably my biggest restaurant pet peeve is to have my check put down while I'm still eating. It's a great space and we enjoyed the ambience, but I think there's some work to do with some of their dishes and at least one of their servers."

  • "Went to Chicago on vacation planning to try this place. It exceeded my expectations! The food and service were fantastic and the dessert was one of the best things I have ever eaten!"

  • "From out of town and second time we went to Girl & The Goat. The food is phenomenal and well worth the trip."

  • "We went to The Girl and the Goat with high expectations. We did not enjoy it as we had expected. The level of noise is very high, so you end up yelling across the table. We ordered too much food at the recommendation of our server. Our of eight plates we loved four. The halibut is delicious, so is the brownie with vanilla ice cream with basil and the Goat empanadas were excellent, another favorite were the pot stickers."

  • "Wonderful food and great service. The music was a bit too loud, however. It made it difficult to carry on a conversation.."

  • "Wow! My husband and I dined here early before the Paul McCartney concert at United Center and the location and entire experience was perfect. Such healthy, creative and beautiful presentations - so much fun! I love the way they've designed the menu as small plates, although some of the vegetable dishes were huge and perfect for at least four people sharing. We will definitely return. This ranks as one of my favorite Chicago restaurants that I will return to again and again."

  • "We knew of the outstanding reputation of this restaurant so went in with high expectations .. amazingly all of which were exceeded. Our server Alison (Al Green) did a wonderful job explaining the menu, how the dishes would be served and ensuring we would have dairy free options and side preparations for our daughter. The dishes we ordered were all exquisite bursting with a wonderful balance of flavors, they were delivered in the chef's preferred sequence at just the right interval with each dish being piping hot when served. Every dish we had was outstanding but the standouts were the fried naked cowboys, cauliflower, hamachi, halibut, pig face and the pork shank. Best of three got our vote as the best cocktail. Thank you Alison !!!!"

  • "One of the best meals ever had. Outstanding service and food. It was our anniversary we got seated at the kitchen area to see everything made. Wonderful experience. Still thinking of food days later."

  • "We were surprised when we arrived at Girl & the Goat. From the menu and its reputation we expected an intimate, unique experience. It felt more like what I imagine a Bubba Gump Shrimp House to be like. The restaurant is huge, loud, and absolutely packed with food tourists snapping photos of every small plate with their iPhones. We generally avoid Randolph St. for this very reason. It's like Disney World there these days. The popularity of the restaurant is well deserved, however. Every dish was thoughtfully designed and delicious. Our favorite was a big bowl of roasted cauliflower with pickled peppers and lots of crispy, roasted bits. The service was exceptional and friendly, and we had a great time overall."

  • "Such a great night and great place. The food was delicious and our server Leigh was wonderful. Busy place great ambiance and decor. Make your reservations way in advance. Totally worth the wait"

  • "We were lucky enough to sit at one of the chef's tables, overlooking the line - totally unexpected but so awesome (although hot from the wood-fire grills). The guys cooking were very nice. G&TG is easily deserving of all its praise as one of the best restaurants in Chicago. Food was beyond excellent. Our waitress was so nice. Can't wait to come back."

  • "My wife and I are "food opportunists", meaning that we try to eat the best stuff when we travel... We did go to many great restaurants during our 4-day travel in Chicago, and Girl & the Goat totally blew our minds away. First it is reasonably priced. Second, the staff is very knowledgable (and fun to talk to). Third, the ambience was great. and... the food was amazing!!! We totally recommended it to anyone."

  • "Amazing staff who advised us perfectly, as to number and types of dishes to order, and then introducing us to each one as they came to the table. And, great food, of course!!"

  • "This restaurant was everything I thought it would be and more. It is a very cool, relaxed environment with great service and amazing food. Top Chef winner Stephanie Izard is the executive chef and she really nails the menu. Her combinations are innovative and unique - each bite is an exciting surprise of flavor. Gooseberries and sugo?! What?! Blew my mind. If you're in Chicago, YOU MUST GO HERE!"

  • "We started at the bar and ordered drinks. I knew it would be great and it was better than expected. We liked all of the dishes we tried, but we liked the squash blossom Rangoon, pot stickers and salmon the most."

  • "I lucked into late dinner reservations my first night. This was the place I most wanted to try. I was not disappointed. The goat belly was great and of course how you go wrong with ham frites. Happy with the visit and hope to go again"

  • "Loved the green beans dish; the halibut; the escargot ravioli. Didn't care for the broccoli. Loved the butter with the pretzel bread. Fun, high flavor experience."

  • "Nice concept of changing what one can eat. Not for everybody. If you like only food you know this is the wrong place but if you like to give something a little out there a shot its great. The wait to make reservations is a bit over the top but I assume this will be slowing down. One got lost in our party on the way coming and was 1 hour late they still seated us which we thought was outstanding. We know they could have said no."

  • "The food was innovative and meticulously prepared, each dish was carefully crafted, each morsel sublime. This restaurant did not disappoint. We were lucky enough to sit at the chef's bar and that turned the meal into an experience. One of the best meals we had all year (we like in the Bay Area so we live in foodie central, so that is significant."

  • "Great food; very unique and different. Specializes in goat. Vey noisy and hard to get in; need reservation way in advance. It is very popular and the in place."

  • "I have waited and wanted to dine here since seeing Stephanie on Top Chef. After a long wait, it did not disappoint!! We shared 12 plates and 2 desserts among a party of 4 and everyone walked away full but not miserable. If you ever go, you must try the Duck Tongue (as well as everything else)! After reading many reviews on the Pork Shank - it was true to the reviews and did not disappoint. Our waiter was top notch - attentive, willing to answer any questions and ensured that our experience was the best it could be! The only thing that could have made the experience any better would have been for Stephanie to be there and have the opportunity to meet her and thank her for every bit of our culinary experience. Everyone should try this!!!"

  • "We have been a fan of top chef since the start and have been wanting to eat here since it opened. We went for my husband's birthday and it was amazing. I asked ahead of time if Chef could sign the menu and it was on our table when we got there. The service was excellent and very helpful. The food was as expected amazing! The only thing I would be aware of is they say the portions are for 4 people but some of the dishes were a bit small. All in all though left very full."

  • "I waited 3 months to get into this restaurant and it was worth the wait! I had reservations at 1045pm, pretty late but we didn't mind since we came in early and had drinks at the bar. Food was fantastic everything we had was tasty and amazing. Our server Antonio was the best and what he recommended was on point. I would love to return again !"

  • "Eating at Girl & the Goat was truly a special experience that I won't forget. Everything we ordered, from the drinks to the dessert, was phenomenal. And the pork loin was the best pork dish I've ever had! Top that off with a great and helpful server who didn't rush us at all even though the restaurant was clearly busy and I'd say it was one of my top 5 dining experiences. Props to Chef Izard who was overseeing the dishes the whole night and constantly working but still had time to take pictures with lots of fans!"

  • "We waited a long time for our reservation at Girl & the Goat and we were very excited, based on all of the hype about the restaurant. I must say that we were unimpressed. The food as not bad, but it was certainly nothing special. I would have been very happy with this meal from a chain restaurant, but I was expecting much more. We have had much better meals that didn't require reservations months in advance. Needless to say, we won't be returning for another meal."

  • "We flew into Chicago for our senior graduation trip from a small Colorado mountain town. It was our first experience at such a nice establishment. From the very second we walked in we were treated with friendly welcome. Our waitress was incredibly helpful and the entire staff truly did whatever they could to ensure we were having the best time. The food was out of this world! It was the best food either of us has ever tasted. This beig so, we naturally ordered four plates more than recommended, but we don't regret it one bit. Girl and The Goat was our favorite experience in Chicago. We look forward to revisiting as often as we can. If you ever get the chance to dine here, do not pass it by."

  • "Outstanding food served as plates best for sharing. There are multiple food selections for everyone including vegetarians. Good wine list and outstanding service. Unfortunately this restaurant has become so popular that reservations for any time other than 5p or 10p are impossible. I'm not sure if calling the restaurant would make any difference; I tried making reservations on Open Table for a time other than those listed above as far as four months out and was completely frustrated as well as unsuccessful."

  • "My daughter and I celebrated her special birthday by dining at Girl and the Goat. The food was delicious and presented beautifully. Our waiter was most helpful by describing the selections and helped us in making our selections. We thoroughly enjoyed the beet salad, wood-burned oysters (outstanding), octopus (very tender) and the halibut which was delicate in flavor. However, we did find the noise level to be most challenging. We had an early reservation and could only imagine the level of noise later in the evening."

  • "10 pm Thursday night was the only res. we could get. We still had to wait 15 min. Seating is very close but the food and service were very good. Love the small plates to share so you can taste more things. Good wine selection. So go for the food but not for deep conversations."
