  • "My sisters and I rarely have a chance to get together due to logistics but when we do, it's always a special event. We chose Girasol to celebrate my sister's birthday because of two of us are big fans of former Top Chef C.J. Jacobson. We were disappointed that we missed him but the staff and the food more than made up for it. David, our server, was the best! We will be back in a heartbeat! Girasol just put Studio City on the map as a foodie destination."

  • "Dear god. I will come back JUST for these. Loved the farm to table and the steak was perfection. The service was sublime. The only thing I don't like is the noise level. If there could be something done to amend this I would eat here often. But the food was delicious."

  • "For the record dining out is very much the norm for our family. Fortunately, paying for a nice meal has never been a problem. However, don't start off the experience with a perceived negative by charging for bread. Really? The food was tasty, but how about some vegetables with the entree and not something obscure like endive! There's a difference between being creative and silly. Our server was aloof, probably because I was dining with my young son and figured the tables with couples were more important. Also, servers are permitted to clear the table and not simply pass this off to wait staff when the meal is complete. Again, too aloof to realize he missed a larger tip. It's a shame because the food is really good and I might have returned."

  • "I give Girasol a lot of credit for moving into the neighborhood's "white elephant." We all liked Girasol a lot. The presentation, taste and quality of the food is terrific. Girasol is not complicated but not simple either. Dishes are well thought out and very compatible with their seasonings and sauces. Farm to table, as they say. Which explains why everything tasted so fresh. Only concern I have, is if their prices will have longevity in the valley. Somewhat expensive for the location, Girasol may just have to be a special occasion "go-to" restaurant. For my budget, anyway. The valley deserves some higher standards, but just not sure the higher prices will make it."

  • "Girasol is the first restaurant at this particular location since the demise of the decades old bar-b-que joint, that is way worth going to! We tried every place that would appear briefly only to fail shortly thereafter. Girasol just keeps getting better every time!!!! Excellent memorable dishes. Very fresh ingredients cooked to perfection. LOVE the octopus salad. Love the duck confit! Loved my fish special. Even the decor is spectacular, making the odd L-shaped room welcoming. My only-small- gripe (and it applied to those around us as well) the lovely tables with wrought iron bases are a bit tricky to fit one's legs around. One couple nearby even turned the table around so his legs could fit under there. Otherwise, very comfortable!"

  • "Girasol along with Asanebo are the two finest restaurants in the San Fernando Valley. Chef CJ Jacobson is truly innovative and consistently goes for it. The fava bean and choriso hummas with charred flatbread is addicting. You also cannot go wrong with any of the meat or fish dishes. Just ask CJ what to order and you won't be disappointed. It also is nice to see a celebrity chef who is actually in the kitchen cooking rather than one who just shows up when the cameras are around."

  • "I had read a small piece in the newspaper about this restaurant, specifically interesting to me because they serve octopus. We had a lovely dinner here recently. It is noisy indoors, however, they have an outside patio where we comfortably sat. The menu is interesting with smaller shared plates and entrees. We each ordered an octopus salad which was just delicious. Also, we could not resist the soft shell crabs which were equally delicious. Additionally, we ordered two sides including potatoes with cheese which was bland and salad of kale and beet tops which I thought was good."

  • "Fantastic, fresh, local food. but because of noise level and delay in service we left before what we thought would be a wonderful dessert. Reservations were at 6:30pm on Sat...Flavors and freshness of the food just jumped off the plates....but by 7:20pm, the waiter disappeared, and the noise level became so great, we could not have a decent conversation. Asked two servers about the delay in receiving our entree, and finally the waiter came back. He said it was delayed but "did not know why." We asked him to check with kitchen and find out and, not surprisingly, he came right back with it. Obviously, the restaurant has customers who love this kind of atmosphere. We will definitively go back for the food, but earlier and on a weekday."

  • "I don't know the neighborhood and picked Girasol based on a whim even though it got mixed reviews. Neither my companion nor I could have been happier with the choice. The food, ambience, and décor were all perfect for us. Each plate was a work of art and a flavor delight. We had about ten different dishes and each was a delight."

  • "I first went to Girasol on their 4th night open and have returned about 20 times since then, so was excited to go on their 1 year anniversary. The restaurant offered a complimentary champagne cocktail and the chef created an amazing complimentary appetizer/amuse-bouche that was spectacular and something you won't get any other time. I was grateful to be there for that alone. We ordered some of our standard favorites such as the peach, burrata and fried lentils, the octopus salad and the mussels. All were amazing. The menu changes frequently based on whatever is fresh and it never disappoints. I am thrilled to live in the neighborhood, but highly recommend to anyone in the LA area that wants an amazing meal and great service."

  • "Beautiful venue and great food, but limited entrees, and they were out of the duck one hour after opening. Also, the tables are built in a way that make them hard to sit comfortably, especially for anyone tall. Our friend had to sit sideways. Love the concept of the restaurant though!"

  • "Our cocktails were delicious as were all the starters we had, the dried fava & chorizo and octopus were outstanding. Everyone entree was delicious - there were 5 of us. The DONUTS as always were exceptional. I loved the panne cotta with apricots. There is a new slightly bubbly wine from the Veneto that was delicious with everything. The service was most gracious without being overattentive. WE had a most lovely evening."

  • "Loved it. Used to live very close to this place, tried restaurant after restaurant at that location, but none of them stuck. Now we move away and this gem arrives. Bummer for us. This one I hope is there to stay. Great flavor combinations, food was so fresh, we ate at the bar because the restaurant was full. The bartender was extra friendly (we told her about a restaurant in Atlanta that waives your corkage fee if you share a glass of your wine with the kitchen, she loved the idea so much that she waived our corkage fee after we gave her a glass), my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed everything! Will definitely be back."

With more reasonable pricing than its peers on Melrose, 3rd Street, etc., the Chef serves inventive and beautifully prepared food. Great selection of seasonal and local delicious ingredients. We have been a few times over the last year and have been consistently pleased with the variety of choices on the menu. The dining space is inventively designed and beautiful. Service has been consistently very good. It can be quite loud and dynamic....much like most if LA's best. Don't expect a quiet, tranquil evening out. Go for great food and lively environment."

  • "I took a good friend, who had been wanting to go to Girasol for a long time, for her birthday dinner. I made reservations on the restaurant's website. I asked for a booth if possible and that it was a my friend's birthday and that she had been wanting to go for along time. We did not get a booth because there are no booths in the restaurant. We both ordered a desert. The waitress put one small candle in my friend's desert and wished her a happy birthday. Most restaurants I have gone to usually bring some type of special desert on such an occasion particularly when I alert the restaurant in advance. I was surprised there was such little effort shown to a special celebration which the restaurant was made aware of."

  • "Probably one of the best meals I've had in LA! And, let me say, I'm frequently disappointed after hearing all the hype or being hit with the crazy high prices. One expects a certain level of food with such build up. I was not disappointed here. After reading about the chef's time at Noma, we decided to try out Girasol. We sampled most of the shared plates and then, went on to entrees. Quality, freshness, taste and display - top notch. I can't wait to go back."

Our party included a vegetarian who ordered a fabulous roaster cauliflower entree. Others had lamb and pork loin. The small plate appetizers were also wonderful, especially the cherries in spiced yogurt."

  • "I was celebrating my BFF's birthday. Wow, from the valet, to the two lovely and friendly hostesses that greeted us. The service was 10, full attention by Michael and the wait staff that were always near without hovering. Fresh ingredients, unique pairings, presentation of the food was simply wonderful. The night ended with the manager asking how everything was. From beginning to end; simply awesome! I will return and I would recommend in a heartbeat."
