The staff was professional and attentive, and the ambience was good for a romantic night out. Among the few other patrons was a celebrity that my wife quickly noticed.
The most impressive thing about Giovanni's was the quality of the food. I have eaten at many, if not most, of the nice restaurants in town, and Giovanni's was as good as any of them. I decided to try a simple dish: spinach and ricotta ravioli with breast of chicken. It was perfect: it instantly became the standard against which I will judge pasta dishes from now on. Perfectly balanced flavors of fresh pasta made in-house daily, beautifully smooth ricotta, truffle oil, and Parmesan cheese transformed a potentially boring dish into something extraordinary and wonderful. Other dishes were equally inspiring. The calamari stew on polenta was perfectly executed, with tender calamari rings and a flavorful, well balanced sauce.
