Gio's Ristorante and BarTough OneIt's hard to give these guys a proper review, as there was only one other table beside myself. Gio's is right in the heart of downtown, and probably draws a good lunch crowd, or a good crowd after games at the Cardinals' stadium. Not such much on a Monday night.
I started with a variation on the venerable Salade' Caprese--the tomatoes were covered with warm goat cheese and then topped with a balsamic reduction--really tasty. The veal was quite good as well. St. Louis is known for their gooey butter cake, and Gio's certainly delivers a winner in this department as well.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing downtown St Louis ItalianI was downtown for the marathon and was looking for an Italian restaurant to carb load. Gio's is downtown and close to everything. Matt, my server, was prompt in getting me seated and knowledgeable about the menu. The Gio's salad is a basic house salad but tasty without being overbearing. I ordered just the spaghetti and meatballs, but specialty ordered it without sauce. There was no hesitation from the kitchen and the meal was satisfying even without the sauce. The meatballs were not tasty. No dessert this time, but definitely next time. I would highly recommend this restaurant if you are staying in downtown Saint Louis. Great Italian food at very affordable prices in a pleasant atmosphere (Sinatra overhead) with an attentive staff.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
