A word from Gilt Bar
A bunch of fine dining chefs and wine directors got together to create a casual restaurant that is inclusive and void of excess. The idea was to bring people together who are set on having a great night out surrounded by quality food (presented in a simple fashion), craft cocktails, beers and wine list focused on best value for the $'s.

Reservations made through Open Table will be for Gilt Bar's main dining room. If you would like to dine in our Library please call the restaurant after 2pm.

  • "My girl and I flew into Chicago and looked up a few places to eat... and decided to try Gilt Bar. We got the chicken and mussels, two things we don't normally eat, but, we ate on the waiter's recommendation, and we were THRILLED. As much as we eat in fancy-pants NY, the Gilt Bar would be one of our favorites if it only moved about 1,500 miles. Great service, we loved the chandelier, and the food was properly grilled and seasoned comfort food... at least my chicken was (comfort food). We will be back as soon as we get back to Chicago... hopefully, before the CUBS have a winning record. Haha."

  • "Went there with some friends on Friday night. We had a great time and the food was fantastic! The salads (shaved squash and a green apple salad), the mussels were my favorite. The truffle pasta while rich is a good dish to share and very yummy!"

I made dinner reservations after my brother and I attended an IMAX prior to the air and water show...we walked in and were questioned like 13 yrs old if we been "over served" and "where we were out before" I have NEVER been so humiliated and treated like a child. The guy played it out like a formaility.... I felt discriminated. I have dined here frequently. However, perhaps If came in wearing a skimpy dress like the couple before me I would have not been asked these questions. I told the hostess how infuriated I was...she did nothing. This was an absolute embarrassment, espiscally because I have been here a handful of times, but this time I made reservations to treat my brother from out of town to dinner."

  • "This is a really cool bar with awesome food. The issue is that it is so dark you can barely read the menu or see your food. But it did not stop me from returning. My waitress was not great, not pleasant, I had to ask for a dessert menu and refill my own water! The first time I went the service was fantastic!"

  • "Menu items are limited (only 4 entre items with a few pastas), but all the food was very good (chicken, steak and pork belly). I liked the ambiance / decor of the place but we were seated in an area with almost no light...had to use my iphone to read the menu and look at the food. I do have to point out the drink I ordered (Moscow Mule) was all ice .. they used crushed ice and filled it to the top of the glass...I think I got about 10 sips and was done. After I asked they reduce the ice to be more reasonable level they then gave a drink where the glass was not full. Overall I enjoyed the food and the experience but the restaurant should look at the details of their drinks, menu options to make an interesting place to visit again."

  • "We had the chance to move to the Library due to a cancellation and it was definitely worth it. The space and ambiance was great. Service was excellent, great drink menu. Plates are good sized; though some might find the menu a little limited we were fine with the choices and everything was very good. Standouts were the bone marrow and the 50/50 sausage. Chocolate pie for dessert was great as well. Could easily see how it could become a bit of a madhouse on the weekend (we went on a Tuesday with about 80% occupancy)."

  • "The food is amazing at gilt bar. They really respect the food and it shows in how amazingly vital the flavors are. They also have good options for vegetarians. Their bar makes well-balanced drinks, in addition to having a wide wine and beer selection. And the service is impeccable! You never want for anything. I love it when a restaurant makes sure your water glass is filled--it's so much easier to appreciate the food that way!"

We didn't even say anything but then three different people apologized and they brought us an additional dessert. Only thing is that this restaurant is very loud. We went with another couple and we arrived about 45 minutes earlier than our reservation and were able to be seated right away. The food was very delicous! We did not care for our waiter but the service was still good, not great."

  • "I went to Gilt for my pre-birthday celebration after reading about the trendy hot spot in chicago magazine. I was nervous that it would be more trendy than actual good food but it wasn't! The food was fantastic. I had the seasonal salad with goat cheese- perfect balance of acid, pepper and creaminess. I also had the salmon with a side of roasted cauliflower. The salmon was cooked to perfection - Crispy on top, medium rare in the middle and perfectly seasoned. The cauliflower had pickled onions and capers that perfectly balanced out the "dullness" of cauliflower and making it a superb side to my salmon. The service is interesting- the waiters and runners appear when you want them to but don't linger. All in all fantastic. Thank you!"

We asked for a quiet table to talk and catch up and were brought to the library downstairs. It was an incredibility beautiful room - warm and inviting. Like an old speakeasy. The service was impeccable the food fresh and flavorful. I highly recommend this neighborhood gem near the Chicago Merchandise Mart"

Although, to reserve a table downstairs in The Library, which is a very cool basement bar/lounge, you need to call instead of reserve online. I think because that seating is limited.   • "Haved dined at Gilt Bar twice and both times have had a nonchalant, uninterested waiter. Had to ask for a drink after waiting 10 minutes at our table. Our table of 4 all wished to order one of the many specialty drinks listed on the menu and when asked for the waiters recommendations, he stood there and said "why don't you go ask the bartender for answers." With that, we order simple cocktails and food. Our choice of appetizers were delicious. Our waiter never returned to ask if we needed another drink or anything else to eat. We asked for our check and left. Never we go back, especially since this has happened twice now."

  • "Gilt Bar was recommended to us by a local friend and we were super impressed...right up until the end, when, after a very long wait...we had to finally take our check up to our waitress who was sitting at the bar chatting with the bar tender and other waitstaff. (It didn't help that we could see her clearly not busy.) At that point...an apology for forgetting to come get our cc would have been in order...but she did not acknowledge that we had been sitting there waiting with check and cc in hand for 15-10 minutes. Not sure what was going on there. Sorry to end a very nice evening with exceptional food on a negative note."

  • "Have been trying to been reservation here for a while given the rave reviews and was finally able to secure one early evening on Father's Day. What a treat! Every single dish was outstanding. The burrata and sliced ham on toast made me feel like I was back in Italy. The same goes for the pasta with black truffles. The pork belly melted in your mouth, but what really surprised us was the boneless grilled chicken. It bursted with flavor and the side of mash potatoes with chicken jus was a perfect pairing. Lastly, the home made chocolate pie was perfect - not too dense, not too loose, not too sweet. Insane. Cannot wait to go back and gorge."

  • "Love Gilt Bar...and love introducing new people to the restaurant as well. Came in on a Saturday night...it was busy/lively. We had a 10pm reso and we sat right away. Our server was Nicklaus, and he did a phenomenal job...very personable and knowledgeable about the menu...would definitely request him next time. Steak Tartare is best in the city...hands down. Love that they serve sriracha on the side. Nice salads, awesome mussels...I can drink that sauce by spoonfuls. Desserts are outstanding...best coffee ice cream I ever had. Drink program is amazing...Martinez is my drink of choice and they always execute it perfectly. Will definitely be coming back soon...and hopefully introducing new people as well."
