Gilda's Italian RestaurantOne More Great ExperienceWe really love the food at Gilda's. We had been craving the pasta dishes, so we had the spaghetti & meatballs and the tagliatelle bolognese. Even so, the fish dishes all sounded excellent, so we need to return soon. We finished with the afrogato, which was quite good.6/16/2013 12:00:00 AMDidn't disappointRead about Gilda's on Open Table and the reviews didn't disappoint us.
Food was amazing and reminded us of our trips to Italy.
We've added it to our Top 10 Portland List.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMOur third delightful dining at GildAs stated by our 5 star review, we like dining at Gild's very much. It is the best Italian dining we have found in Portland so far.
Our last visit was when families and friends were celebrating graduations so that the activity and noise level was a little higher than other visits but acceptable. The service was friendly and efficient. The food delicious with fair pricing. We will eat there again and recommend Gilda's highly. Parking has always been available up close all a bonus as well.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMMy wife started with the ceasarsMy wife started with the ceasars salad whcih she claims to be the best in Portland. I had my favorite salad there, the Blue salad. Great as always. My wife had the salmon special for the evening and I had the always favorite meatballs and spaghetti. Wonderful as usual. The evening concluded when we both had the cherries amarene. Great evening.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a group of six on aWe had a group of six on a Tuesday night. It was very quiet so we could communicate quite easily from one end of the table to the other. The food, wine, and service were superb.6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMSatisfying! We found this on Open Table and Zagat at last minute and were able to get a reservation on a Friday night. The service and atmosphere were lovely. The bread and baked cheese were great, and we enjoyed the super garlicky caesar salad. I enjoyed the wild boar papparadelle, but it needed a little something to take it over the top, maybe some tomato, a little salt, etc. But still great. My husband had the spaghetti and meatballs which they are "known for." He was disapppointed (especially comparing it to Italian dad's version). Basically, it was OK but just overall bland. I will say the house-cured cherries (over vanilla ice cream) were totally fabulous! I would go back just for those! So unique and such depth of flavor - just amazing.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMA Hidden GemWe've tried Gilda's a couple of times now, so we know the great food and friendly, efficient service is no fluke. On our last visit, we ordered from the specials. I'm not usually a big fan of halibut, as often it's served by many places as a fish dish to those who don't really like the taste of fish. (Translation: A dried out hunk of white fish that's suppose to taste like 'chicken' "). But since I've been working on my weight, I thought I'd try their halibut special. It was incredible!!! Probably the best I ever had. Moist, perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and the vegetable garnish was equally great. Veg was sauteed just right and served with the most interesting use of capers in the sauce. Truly a remarkable plate of flavor.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Italian! The halibutGreat Italian! The halibut is the best I've ever had. D-lish!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful food, great atmosphereThe food at Gilda's is really fantastic. The table ordered the pappardelle with wild boar, tagliatelle bolognese, and special for the night--halibut picatta. All of the food was wonderful. The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente, the wild boar ragu had great flavor, and wasn't too gamey tasting. The halibut picatta seemed like an odd combination when we ordered it, but the halibut was wonderful and the lemon caper sauce did not overpower it's flavor, but complimented it very well. The service was a little slow, but we were in no rush so it wasn't much of a problem. Our server seemed like they may have been new so that could have had something to do with it. Overall great restaurant, and we will definitely be going back!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMVery nice atmosphere. NiceVery nice atmosphere. Nice place to go with friends to visit--not too noisy. Good food5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMGood neighborhood ItalianWe live in the neighborhood, and love to eat at Gilda's. It's a local restaurant with what I believe is a real Italian man running the place. Food is always good, and it's right next door to Artists Rep Theatre, making dinner and a play very easy.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMeverything's greatThis was my second time at Gilda's and I plan to go back many times.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous food, attentive service,Fabulous food, attentive service, diverse and creative menu. We would go back.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMWe brought first time dinersWe brought first time diners to share with us before the theater and they were thrilled and we were pleased to see Gilda's at its best. i have sampled most of the menu so usually have the special. I now recommend those and select them as special attention always makes those a delicious choice.
Marco, the owner, came to our table to see how we all were enjoying our meal. Emilio, head waiter, was his always gracious self.
Another pleasant dining experience.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect for the theater. We really like going before a play at ART, though many others do as well . . . so be sure to leave enough time to enjoy the meal. We both had pasta dishes and enjoyed it a lot. They also have a full bar and offer some interesting cocktails.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were there for pre-theater.We were there for pre-theater. Excellent food. The entree, a fish, was just right. The side veggies were perfection. We had cocktails rather than wine, but the wine list seemed reasonable. GloriousFabulous dinner! Glorious halibut cooked to perfection and outstanding veal marsala!!!!
Will go back again and again.Great neighborhood spot, cozy atmosphere with a terrific
chef/owner!4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGilda's doesn't sound Italian, butFood was exceptional, as was our server, Selena. She was extremely knowledgeable about the preparation of dishes, allowing my wife to make some requests for variations in seasoning. The food reminded us of what we ate in Rome a few years ago. In particular, my wife's Chicken Saltimbocca was about as good is possible. My pappardelle with duck ragu was delicious and lightly sauced in the true Italian style, not drenched with sauce in the American style. Prices for wine by the glass were exceptionally reasonable for the Downtown/Pearl/NW 21st/23rd area. A thoroughly enjoyable meal.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful restaurant, attentiveWonderful restaurant, attentive but not intrusive waitstaff. Everyone smiled, including kitchen staff. Food very good, expertly prepared and served with appropriate time between courses.

A great spot if you like good italian food.3/9/2013 12:00:00 AMStill the favorite Italian placeThey are really doing a great job a Gilda's. They have started making cocktails, and they are very good. My wife had the mista salad, and I had a delicious white bean soup as appetizers. We both ordered the spaghetti & meatballs, which did not disappoint. They were very busy, which is a great sign.3/3/2013 12:00:00 AMWe go Gildas regularily andWe go Gildas regularily and the food and service are consistently good. They serve more traditional italian dishes. A good place.2/14/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect for TheaterGilda's is half a block from Artists' Repertory Theater and has rapidly become our go to place before a performance. For starters, I had the caesar salad and my spouse had the mista salad (her stated favorite in town). We split the spaghetti & meatballs and the fettuccine bolognese. Both were delicious. We finished with the bread pudding, which was quite good. The service was pleasant and personal.1/27/2013 12:00:00 AMI had the famous spaghettiI had the famous spaghetti and meatballs and my wife had the osso bucco. Both were excellent .
