  • "Had a problem with the lemonade being too bitter, but the waitresses were very understanding and accomadating. They made us several fresh ones until we found one that was sweet enough. The food was delicious, and well worth the slightly high prices. It cost us 41 dollars for two main dishes (one salad and one pasta) and an appetizer. The portions were large, and my date and I could hardly make a reasonable dent in our two dishes. The waitresses were very patient and let us finish our meal even as the restaurant started to fill up. The restaurant was a bit dim, and could use better lighting, but the service food, and atmosphere made up for it. I highly recommend it. "

  • "We were full of hope to reserve a table at Gilda's on short notice, and not disappointed. The food was superb in all ways. The vegetables were fresh and perfectly cooked, the meats were tender, the seasonings rich and (I think) authentic to the Italian heritage. We regularly attend a theater on the next block, so this has become a particularly valuable find for us. "

Sadly, we have privacy, lighting and other needs that most people take for granted, but Gilda's satisfied them all. The food was outstanding, the service both friendly and commendable. This will definitely be one of our regular places to dine from now on."

  • "Once again, great food and service. I want to tell people about Gildas but then again, I don't because when I go, it's never crowded. We took a friend from Seattle who is a culinary snob (or foodie) and he really enjoyed it. I've been four or five times and it has been consistently wonderful. Go to enjoy the comfort food but if you're hoping to 'be seen', you're out of luck. The restaurant is on a dead street and the patrons are mostly retirees."

  • "Six of us met at Gilda's before a play at ART -- couldn't be more convenient. The service was wonderful -- friendly, fast, efficient, but not rushed. Everyone loved their dinners, especially the fish special, veal and soup of the day. The tiramisu and dessert special involving pizzelle cookies and fresh berries were delightful. We will be back!"

  • "Was trying to look for a good italian restaurant for a couple of friends and me to go to dinner, saw the menu for Gilda's on OpenTable, and thought we'd give it a try. It was an open kitchen so you can kind of watch the cooks while they do their thing, slightly dim, Italian music playing, nice italian artwork on the wall all added up for a very nice atmosphere. The staff was very pleasant and were always making sure our water was full, and our food was delivered very quickly. The food was especially delicious! Bread with olive oil before, I got the risotto, which was extremely good, and I got a cheesecake with a cup of coffee afterwards. Everything was just great. I was still feeling happy about what I had for hours and hours after."

  • "This is a consistent stop for us before going to Artists Repertory Theater. We split a Mista Salad. For dinner, my spouse had the fabulous spaghetti & meatballs, and I had the special papparadelle with sausage & ricotta cheese. Both were delicious."

Being right next to the Artist Rep theatures it's become our usual spot for dinner on "play night". Only downside is the noise level. Even at half/two thirds capacity we struggled to hear one another talk."

  • "We had never been to Gilda's before, even though we go to the matinees at ART. We were greeted warmly, seated at a desired place in the restaurant and were promptly attended to by the waitperson. She was excellent at everything! We had the fritto misto, aracacini and meatballs for appetizers. Main course: wonderful veal with lemon sauce. Dessert: a warm chocolate cake with warm caramel sauce. Wine recommended by our waitperson was a judicious choice. All in all, an excellent time at Gilda's! I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone and cannot wait to return!"

  • "I can't remember the last time I wrote a restaurant review, but Gilda's is worth it. Off the beaten path in a rather "rugged" section of town, this is worth the visit. We had a couple of the specials: grouper done in an exquisite sauce and veal, which my date said was the best she had ever had. Both were done perfectly, with a beautiful artistic presentation. The chef obviously takes pride in his cooking, done in an open area of the restaurant. Service was friendly, attentive but unobtrusive, perfect. Funky murals of Florence decorate the unpretentious dining room, fun recognizing landmarks because we had been there a few months ago ourselves. Prices are moderate, and well worth it. The wine list has knowledgeable choices in the $30 range."

  • "So close to ART, it's a perfect choice for pre theatre dining. Portions are generous, and they're cool with requests to share if you don't want to be stuffed for the show. Food is good home cooking Italian - can't be beat. Our new pre theatre regular stop - and, judging from the packed dining room, many others, as well. Reservations advised, if you're dining early."

  • "Have been to Gilda's four times and have been happy every time. An early reservation will be quiet. Later in the evening the restaurant fills up. It is a good idea to have a reservation. The service was exceptional. Every item we had was very good. Blue salad was wonderful and the fresh pasta couldn't be beat. Seafood appetizer (calamari) was outstanding and very tender. The chef even agreed to make a "special" that we'd had before even though it wasn't on the menu that night. We have taken friends here on two occasions and we'll be back!"

  • "Our first time at Gilda's. The staff was very welcoming. Our waiter was just excellent. The chef also came over and chatted with us. Food was very good, very home style, much like out of a good family kitchen. Seasoning was a bit understated, which I certainly prefer to too salty. The wine list is OK. One gripe, which is aimed towards many, many restaurants in Portland, is that we were told that the corkage would be $25 per bottle. When the corkage alone is the price of an entrée it is too high. This means we eat out less often, as we enjoy good wine with dinner. It is so hard to accept paying 2 to 4 times retail for decent wine so byob and reasonable corkage is the answer. Restaurants end up losing out by charging such a high corkage."

  • "We returned for one more dinner before our play, which is just 1/2 block away. We both love Italian food and have pleasantly pleased with this venue. It has never failed us! The service is superior too. I had a veal lemonaise which was very nice sauteed with sliced potatoes, asparagus and carrots in a tasty sauce. My wife had a mushroom risotto which she loved. We didn't have time for dessert, but were too full anyway."

  • "I discovered this restaurant on Open Table. What a great find! We had friends visiting from out of town and planned to meet for dinner. We all really enjoyed the evening. Gilda's made our evening very delightful on all counts but especially the outstanding Italian food. My personal favorites: salad - Blue, spaghetti and meatballs, and tiramisu! We will most definitely be back, I'm looking forward to it!"

  • "We are regular patrons of Giilda's, especially before the theater as they are next door to ART. However, we would go there frequently regardless. Marco is a creative chef who makes traditional Italian dishes with an American touch and common US dishes with an Italian touch. His background is from Umbria where his ancestral family was from. I always have one of his specials since I've sampled all on the menu. Whenever his has fish, do not pass it up! Or, also when there is a traditional Umbrian dish such as the tagliatelle with sausage made from wild boar. Yum! Friendly staff. A very inviting place. It is a trip to Italy right here in Portland!"

  • "Everything I've ever ordered has tasted spectacular. The restaurant is medium sized, quaint and romantic. I don't recommend it for children. The chef Marco, made up a nice plate of fettuccine Alfredo for my son, but not at a child's price. I would like to see more pasta on the menu. I've dined at Gilda's maybe 10 times, and maybe six times, they've been out of the special. That's usually disappointing, especially since it's usually something I want! It isn't even late when we go. I think specials should still be available at 6-6:30 pm. Other than that, love it!"

  • "Reviews on Yelp, Urbanspoon, and Open Table are all very positive, so I had high expectations coming in. Unfortunately, those were not met. - we were seated 25 minutes late for our reservation while there were open tables - and a couple came in with a reservation 30 minutes after ours and were seated immediately - 2 of the entrees I was interested in from the online menu prior to coming were not available (1 wasn't even on the menu) - the candied hazelnuts in the blue salad were all clumped together in 1 ball - The risotto and lobster special was okay, but it didn't have as much flavor as I expected I do highly recommend the bietole salad - it really was delicious (and my wife was kind enough to share!). The table service was great."

  • "Went there for Valentine's weekend for the first time. Found this place on Yelp, since we are not big Timbers fans, and wouldn't have stumbled on it unless we frequented the neighborhood. Nice leather topped bar and good selection of beers on tap. At 5pm things were just starting to get rolling. The bar connects to the restaurant without having to exit outside (nice). Ordered all the nightly specials - crab cakes (the best ever), lobster tail, veal, gnocchi and a bottle of wine. Decent prices. We would come here again, definitely for happy hour in the bar."

  • "Gilda's has become our favorite restaurant. It has intimate ambience, staff who are friendly, welcoming and efficient, outstanding Italian influenced food, great specials, fine wine. The high quality and taste of the food, the preparation, and the price make dinner a real value. It is small and the kitchen is open, so you can see everything that is going on. Invite your friends; we have, and they all were very impressed. Be sure to get reservations early!"
