A word from Gigino Trattoria
Gigino Trattoria opened its doors in August of 1994. The owners, Bob Giraldi and Phil Suarez, along with executive chef Luigi Celentano, have kept Gigino flourishing in the ever-changing Tribeca neighborhood. Chef Celentano creates both the menu and wine list, with daily specials of seasonally fresh seafood, game and vegetables. Gigino prides itself on the fact that all their dishes are prepared to order and almost all their pastas and breads are house-made. Fresh fish specials are featured on the “specials blackboard” daily, and it’s safe to say they also have the best pizza in Tribeca! Dining at Gigino Trattoria is a pleasure every time!Continued
Diner Reviews
  • "Service really started out well. But the food did not live up to the service. The food went downhill with each course so I would start and stop with appetizers. Dessert was a joke. My wife had strawberries--- 4 sliced in half on a bit of whipped cream and zabaglione There must be a strawberry shortage!!"

  • "Had been here with the same friend about 2 years ago. The specials menu seemed more varied than I remember. The entrees were very good, but could have been a little hotter when served. Service was really outstanding and our server was really enthustiastic about the menu (you don't find that too often). Overall, the experience was very good and I would go back again."

  • "First time at Gigino and was very pleased. I started with a pear salad with cheese....and both were shaved so thin they were almost transparent and very delicious. I followed it with the chicken parmigiana and this was a pounded breast with the wing bone still attached...well cooked with just a little penne. Smart portion since you had both but not overdone on carbs. Go...you will not regret it."

  • "We ordered 2 salads and 2 pastas. The salads were quite good - not amazing but hearty and tasty. The pasta special was not very good the tuna meatball were dry, pasta overcooked - it went mostly uneaten. The other pasta - a basic spaghetti was good. All in all, we enjoyed the dining experience but found the food to be ok."

  • "We ordered a Caesar salad to share. The server should have mentioned that it was a small portion. I thought it was a skimpy single portion. It was very tasty. My mom had the mushroom risotto which she loved. It was a respectable size. My cousin had the shrimp with fettuccine. She said it was scrumptious. It was way less pasta than I'm used to seeing in a restaurant. I had the lemon chicken with string beans. Again, it was fabulous. The sauce was lemony and the chicken was cooked to perfection. We certainly had room for dessert. Overall I would say do not be modest in courses."

  • "Just love this place! Wonderful Italian restaurant with quirky atmosphere! The food tastes fresh and delicious always!! We have tried a number of different meals from chicken to veal to fish and pasta…we are always happy!"

  • "Restaurant is a solid performer in all aspects. No, it is not a high end gourmet palace. It is not priced like one either. It serves very reasonably priced somewhat inventive food in a slightly crowded professionally run dining room. I have paid more than twice the price for a meal that isn't as good. The City needs more restaurants like Gigino."

  • "We enjoyed the meal and the drinks. This neighborhood has several fine restaurants nearby in the same price range and we like them better. While everything was good we felt that it was not good bang for the buck. The dishes were innovative in terms of what they offered but the flavors were not extraordinaire. We will give it one more shot."

  • "Menu had a variety of options and they also had an extensive specials list for that evening's dinner. Everything we had was good. They also give you bread to start with."

  • "Have been to this restaurant before for dinner and had pasta but had been wanting to try again to try pizza. Headed there for a business lunch and we all ordered pizzas. Well what a delight. Yum yum yum. Definitely try them. Right out of the brick oven and so tasty!"

  • "First time in Tribeca Preforming Art Center...looking for fun place before concert. Gigino truly was outstanding. I had the gnocchi and my mate had the clams vongole. I usually share my dish, but with guilty pleasure, I ate the whole meal offering only a tiny bite! Our secret was to book reservations at 5:30 PM -before the crowds arrive. Attentive service, cannot wait to return!"

  • "And by Rome I mean TriBeCa, and you want a great neighborhood Italian place - this is it. Classic Italian restaurant interior design and feel. Great calamari fritti and shrimp with fresh pea risotto. Great service, very friendly staff. A nice break from modern, over-priced Italian wannabe's. Just go - enjoy!"

  • "Would like to try again. As mentioned in other reviews, you wait even if you have a reservation. I think we got seated 45 minutes after reservation time. They were out of the sea bream special and so I got pork that was dry and overcooked. Nice warm welcoming place for Christmas day. I think they took more reservations than they could accommodate . Had to wait a long time for wine because there were no glasses. Oh well, it was Christmas Day and other 2 meals at table were fine and probably would have rated it higher. Servers were nice and did not show stress of situation- made us feel comfortable, and made us feel like they were glad to serve us. All in all a pleasant experience."

  • "The food is authentic italian and this comment comes from an italian! I had linguine with clams. The pasta was al dente, the fish imported and fresh. The chef is from Positano (Amalfi coast) and definitely knows how to prepare a great seafood spaghetti! The restaurant has the feeling of an italian trattoria but with the Tribecca vibe."

  • "Portions could've been bigger. its great for folks who don't want to over eat . Even in that case ,I think the portions were still on smaller end of the scale."

  • "Moved to NYC full time from Long Island. No room for my crowd of 8. Gigino's being one of the few placesin TriBeCa, open on Christmas Day, we decided to make that our Christmas Day Dining Room. As usual, the food was EXCELLENT! The place was packed, the atmosphere was festive and they accommodated us with a table on the back upper level. We had the best time!!! Stayed for at least 4 hours, opened secret Santa gifts, drank lots of good wine and as always the food was authentic delicious Italian. The price was good for what we had and all the service staff was polite, helpful and welcoming! We will make this a Christmas tradition until one of our kids gets a place big enough for all of us!!!!"

  • "have been here several times in the past --and was pleased This time-- I had a reservation for 2 which I had made early in the week My assigned table was on elevated area between 2 tables set for larger parties As mine was a business dinner--requiring discussion--this wasn't acceptable None of the better tables for 2 were available--many for 4 were open but I was told they were held for "reservations" Was seated in an alcove nr door--as soon as seated I realized it was the passageway for home deliver orders When I asked for a change- annoyed-manager informed me that "I had already been offered a table once and that his obligation was to accommodate the larger parties. We left--and had a great meal at ECCO . will NEVER return"

  • "Gigino has been one of our favorite New York restaurants for over a decade. it's a neighborhood Italian restaurant that goes well beyond the usual pasta and pizza. It's crowded and noisy and you have to make a reservation most of the time in order to get a decent table, but the food is superb and the daily specials really do vary daily."
