Diner Reviews
  • "Had a wonderful meal with great service. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. We will be back again."

  • "Manager se! grouchy, he never cracked a smile with customers or staff. Our waitress didn't offer Parmesan Cheese, for either the soup/salad or the entree. We had to flag her down to request it during the meal. (An Italian restaurant and I have to request the cheese? Ummmmmmm ....) She brought our wine when we were over half done with our entrées (ordered 5-10 minutes before they arrived). It didn't seem overly busy, there was one empty table on our side of the restaurant. Food was very good. Tortellini with prosciutto & veggies and chicken franchese were both good. Desserts are big enough for three people to share. Bartender made very good mixed drinks. Will I go again? More than likely."

  • "Wish the preparation of the food here was more consistent - my husband gets the same thing every time and it's very different in taste and preparation each time... also don't bother "adding" chicken to a pasta... It tastes old and awful. Marinara sauce is tasty though."

  • "I have been to Gianni's several times and have always enjoyed. Unfortunatley, this past visit was not up to par. Service was very slow and many of the pasta dishes were not good. Hope this is a one time event as we normally like the restaurant."

  • "It was my first visit at Gianni's and also great Italian cuisines looks like home-made. Everybody says that the food is delicious there and will go out for the dinner at there next time."

  • "Being Italian, I know my food and I know what I like. Giannis is some of the best Italian I've had. The homemade gnocchi is the best you're going to find. Try it with a mix of the vodka cream sauce and arrabbiata sauce. Add lobster if you're really wanting something scrumptious and impressive. No matter how many times we come here, this is the dish we order over and over…."

  • "The food was excellent but the waiter spoke too fast and we felt a little rushed. He seemed to not be listening closely to what we were saying. Water was not offered until we asked for it. Atmosphere was nice."

  • "The food at Gianni's was excellent. Everyone in our party of six was extremely satisfied with their meals (appetizers included). The service was very good even though the restaurant was jam packed with customers. The only thing I would improve upon at this restaurant would be to put a little more room between the tables.. They are so close together that it feels like one is having dinner with the tables next to yours. Other than this, if you don't mind being close... I would highly recommend Gianni's for the wonderful Italian cuisine."

  • "Gianni's never seems to fail in food, service and experience! The vaeal dishes are perfectly presented and taste superb. The chicken piccata is outstanding! To us this is a hidden jem for large tables as well as a romantic couple! Love the place!"

  • "Never disappointed. Upon arrival, always seated quickly no matter how crowded the restaurant is. Food always good and served hot."

  • "Have dined at their Kildeer location, first time at the larger, and much nicer inside, Palatine location. They have an excellent selection of wines by the glass, food portions are very ample, and could easily make a meal out of warm bread the the plate of garlicy olive oil with shredded Parmesan cheese and fresh basil."

  • "Great Italian food and also great Steaks. The decor is very well done, relaxing colors and tones. Nice large bar. Also a great brunch. Restaurant in a new building so it is very clean and fresh."

  • "I loved the downtown Palatine location, and the ambiance made it a great date location. We had a baked lobster ravioli appetizer that was delicious. And I had a tortellini with peas and prosciutto, entree. The food was outstanding. The service was not bad by any means, but our server could use some lessons in waitress etiquette. When I ask, "are there any specials we should know about", that means you've missed your cue to tell us about them, and your response shouldn't be, "They're on the card on the table." Make food recommendations, and check back to see if there is anything else we need. I'll say it again, great meal, I will go there again. I just need the service to be on par with the food."

  • "My wife and daughter tried going to a local Italian restaurant by our home but when we approached the hostess stand she noticed my daughter and added to the wait time to discouraged us from staying. Many many open tables throughout the restaurant mind you. It was nice to see Gianni's welcome the family not just a over 50 crowd. Many thanks and you have this families loyality to come back."

  • "We have dined at both the Kildeer and Palatine locations on a number of occasions. On Saturday we met friends that had never been there before. Because of a bad experience in December we had requested a good and quiet table and were assured we would get one. We were actually seated at the very same table as last time, when we requested being reseated we were told (again) that there were no other tables available. In addition, our waitperson had the entire bar section to cover on her own for most of our meal, so the service was way below par - she simply had way too many tables and couldn't keep up. We love the food but will hesitate before we recommend Gianni's or bring friends again."

  • "I have been dining at Gianni's, starting with the location in Deer Park, for about 8 years. I have never had a bad meal! All the dishes from their staples to the specials menu are always excellent. Favorites include Country Rigatoni, all the Veal dishes and their soup, Pasta Fagioli. Also great for catering and parties of 20-30 at Palatine location."

  • "We are Italian food junkies...always searching for a great place to dine. Came across this online and found it to be the best Italian restaurant we have visited yet!!! Food arrives hot and fresh. Generous amount makes it perfect for next day leftovers!!!! Perfect pasta and fabulous ingredients. We will definitely return, and often!!"

  • "The green pepper soup was delicious very thick and flavorful. The pasta oglio was very garlicky and tasty. The salmon Vesuvio was an extremely generous portion with the Vesuvio potatoes and peas with the right amount of flavoring. The only complaint is that we were seated close to the door and it was a little drafty when the door was opened . We will definitely be coming back and would highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "I decided to give this restaurant a try again on a less busy night. We decided against appetizers because the entree portions are so large. The wine list has been recently changed and it is so much better! There are a few gems on the list that are difficult to find especially at a local small restaurant. I learned my lesson this time that it's so much smarter to dine here on their slow days and off peak hours. It's worth it!"

  • "It never fails, every time we eat here we're reminded of how good the food is. We like to sit at the bar and have dinner because it's a more lively atmosphere then at a table. I'm not saying eating at a table is bad here, it's just what you prefer. We like to people watch and we get to do more of that at the bar. Plus we get to see what everyone else is ordering. AND, the kitchen is open viewing and we like to watch that, too. Great time, good food."

  • "Gianni's was once our favorite dining spot in Palatine- but no longer remains at the top of our list. Our past two dining experiences have been met with lost reservations, confused hostesses ( why does a restaurant in Palatine need 3 hostesses ?), mediocre staffing with our waitress arriving for her shift midway through our meal and taking our table from another server and improperly cook food- on two occasions. What should be a lovely, delicious dining experience has become a noisy, poorly served and not great tasting meal. The owners really should take notice and address the issues at hand or palatine will have yet another failed restaurant."
