Gertrude'sVery nice visitGertrude's is small but the food and service were wonderful. The outdoor dining with the sculpture garden is view, is highly recommended, provided the weather cooperates.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMGertude's is always a good choiceI live out of the US so don't get to go to Gertrude's as often as I like, but anytime I'm in Baltimore I enjoy dining there. The menu is innovative with a wide variety of price range, good for all occasions.6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMSuch a pleasant suprise! When my friend suggested my family try Gertrude's for a special event, I expected the food to be good, but was pleasantly suprised. The seafood was all prepared perfectly, with generous portions making the price very fair. The outdoor seating was perfect and we walked around the surrouding sculpture garden after eating. The service was great and our waitress was funny and attentive. There is no doubt in my mind that I will be going back soon - it's worth the drive if you live closer to the harbor!6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful Sunday brunch/lunch!Best location, food, service for Sunday brunch or lunch! I was glad that I made reservation at 12:45pm that morning since when we arrived, the couple before us were told that the earliest available table was at 2pm. We sat outdoor with waterfall and nice sculpture garden view. The indoor had jazz live music playing. Either will be appealing. Food was delicious. Best MD crab soup. The chicken salad sandwich was also very delightful. My husband ordered the power house sandwich which came with fresh fruits and he said that it is the best he had as compared with two or three well-known restaurants. Will return again!6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMeverything I ever heardfood was excellent, service, view. would highly recommend. A tour of the museum afterward.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently the bestAlways outstanding service and food. Lovely setting.6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMTreat yourself! When visiting the BMA it's always a great treat to 'brunch' or 'lunch' at Gertrudes, either before or after seeing the art exhibits. The food is always good and the ambience is relaxing.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMA perfect restaurant afterA perfect restaurant after visiting the Baltimore Museum of Art. The food is consistently good, very nice ambience, can stroll through sculpture garder right outside the door. Our lunch was perfect and a hit with our out-of-town guests.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways dependable and first rateI've been to Gertrude's often and have never been disappointed. Excellent food, a variety of choices and options, friendly and efficient service, and a very cheerful ambience are hallmarks of this restaurant. Whenever I'm not quite sure of what I'm in the mood for, I can always rely on Gertrude's to satisfy.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMLove Gertrude's ambiance andLove Gertrude's ambiance and location - food is wonderful too!5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMDinner at Gertrude's: A Top Ten!My husband and I just enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Gertrude's on a recent Saturday night. It is a beautiful gem, located in the sculpture gardens of the Baltimore Museum of Art. My husband loves crab cakes and really enjoyed this for his entree. I ordered local fish and was also very impressed. The restaurant was very busy and had a large private party; our servers made sure follow up on our meal and we had very attentive and top service. I would definitely return here.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMspecial nightI wanted a special place to celebrate my daughter's graduation with family and friends. This was perfect--very lovely dining room, interesting local foods prepared in a somewhat novel way, and service of the highest quality. Our waiter was that rare server who paid close attention, was there exactly when he was needed and never intrusive. The small plate selection was nicely balanced, my crab cakes were very good, and everyone else liked their food very well. Nothing really alarming, but then, that's good. They took the trouble to write "congratulations" on my daughter's dessert plate and really, the effect of that small kindness, done at a time of great family loss and stress, made our evening perfect . Thanks, Gertrude's!5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMnoisyThe restaurant was extremely noisy. But I loved my lunch!!5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMGraduation delightI went here with my family after my graduation and I absolutely had a great time. The service was wonderful. The waiter was always around and we never looked for him...very attentive. Great ambiance. I would definitely recommend this place for special occasions or for anytime honesty5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect spot for a romantic eveningMy husband and I booked a reservation because we've had a good experience last time we dined and a Thursday night reservation was worth a 1000 dining points on Open Table. They found a space for us under the tent outdoors. Everything was great. Our server was attentive and friendly. She helped us pick a nice bottle of sparkling wine. Our meals were generous and tasty. Great romantic dinner on our night off.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMMemorableI mostly enjoyed the location and the ambience After my graduation we ate there and had the opportunity to take pictures outside where interesting sculptures were located. Since I am a culture lover, the Baltimore Art Museum was a perfect location for me. The service was great and they were very flexible.
After we paid the bill, they even let us (group of 7) hang out at our table for at least another hour. But the best part is that they surprised me with a Congratulations desert as I think they saw me with my graduation gown.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMBeautiful setting, good food,Beautiful setting, good food, perfect amount. Loved the attentive service! .5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect Celebratory MealI went here to celebrate my graduation with family and friends. The food was delicious, the waiter was kind and accommodating. The portions were the perfect size, not too much food but also not too little. The weather was gorgeous so we got to sit outside and enjoy the view of the fountains and sculptures. It was also a great place to take a few photos to remember the occasion.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMFood and Art go togetherGreat to find a wonderful place like this associated with a fine Museum. A real treat to dine outdoors under a tent on a beautiful evening with a lovely view. The menu is a bit too much to comprehend but the food was very good.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMGertie's GroovesTuesdays with Gertie's beat Tuesdays with Morrie anytime, and Morrie was good. The Maryland Chicken is astounding, the biscuits sublime. Have the soup. Have the fish. Have whatever you can and try something you mightn't normally because it will surprise and please.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMNoiseEverything was fine except the noise level.I guess that nothing can be done with the stone and glass walls. When the band would take a break it was tolerable. On a previous occasion, there was background music. This time it was much louder and although probably nice music, it was overbearing. My Mother In Law had an awful time with it and even though I have good hearing,I couldn't hear conversation at the table when they played. We were at the opposite end of the room from the band.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMI loved the ambience of Gertrude'sI loved the ambience of Gertrude's and will certainly return. The food was a little disappointing, but that could have just been what I ordered.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMgood food, Maryland seafoodgood food, Maryland seafood and local specialties, and lovely museum sculpture garden setting.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent foodWe had a great meal. Our food was just delicious. The waitress had a great personality although the bartender was a bit slow getting drinks to her and poured the wrong wine once. The sculpture garden is a great place to sit and they have live music on Friday nights.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMWe visited for a family celebrationWe visited for a family celebration. Service was not rushed, and the server was extremely efficient and readily assisted one of us with making sure some food "intolerances" were identified and avoided with the menu. The calamari appetizer was huge! The duck breast would have used more seasoning but the portion was very generous. Desserts were also large. We especially liked the effort to provide local, sustainable and vegetarian food items.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat restaurantI am happy with my decision to dine at gertrude's after my graduation. Beautiful atmosphere, great food and wonderful customer service! Other than the food taking a little long to come out... I would rate this restaurant 5 stars!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMFive of us dined on a busyFive of us dined on a busy Friday at 1:00 pm. Our choices varied widely over the menu from a prosaic burger to the seafood salad (yum!). Our server was quite attentive, considering how busy he was. Overall, it was a nice experience again.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Museum-Great RestaurantWonderful seafood offerings- The BMA and Gertrudes work together so well, definitely a Baltimore destination!5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat outdoorEvery time I go here, I'm pleasantly surprised by how great everything is. Had the pork sliders, and the zuchettes to start, followed by the tuna steak and rock fish, and we ended with key lime pie and the chocolate decadence.
Everything was delicious! The outside seating is beautiful and definite plus!5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect Mother's DayThe best Mother's Day ever! My wonderful sons took me to Gertrude's- we were seated in the beautiful sculpture garden- the food was delicious and the owner/chef John Shields even came to visit us at our table and was so delightful. We will definately return!!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMWe 'sLove GertrudeLovely setting for Mother's Day brunch.
The food is consistently good and the service very good5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Dining Gem!My family and I went there on Saturday for brunch and thought it was amazing! The food and service were great and we toured the museum afterwards making it a wonderful way to spend the morning. Our waiter mentioned the "Afternoon Tea" that they do once a month and my daugthers and I are looking forward to trying that in June. Wonderful place!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding Service and ambianceI hosted a bridal luncheon for 8 on a very busy weekend and we did not have any problems. Our server Elena was so professional and attentive to our groups needs. The cream of crab soup was smooth and delicious and the berry salad was fresh and chilled perfectly. All other diners enjoyed their meals as well. I have been here several times and have never had a bad experience. Great outdoor patio for dining as well.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGertrude's food, service andGertrude's food, service and ambience are consistently top notch. I have dined here for both brunch and dinner on several occasions and each time was as good as, if not better than, the last.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently good. One ofConsistently good. One of our go-to restaurants - never disappointed5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMGood Food on a Busy NightThough jam-packed w/ people from 2 concerts ending, staff rescued the day with extra bread and filling our drink orders quickly so we could sip wine & nibble as we waited. We had a very good meal--a nicely grilled chicken w/ garlic mashed potatoes for one and a group of tasty small plates for the other. The fried oyster appetizer was absolutely divine-- light and perfect w/ an excellent dipping sauce that also went well w/ the steamed asparagus. A spinach salad has all the right ingredients, but could have used a little more dressing and bacon. The least successful item, strawberry-rhubard crumble, was not up to the usual excellence here. We attribute the minor slip ups to having all the tables fill at the same time slot after the concerts.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMMuch improvedHello,
We have dined at Gertrudes many many times over the years and while the food and was consistently good, the service
and attitude of the hostess was not. We actually left the restaurant last year when refused seating we thought would be more comfortable and suit our needs. We were pleased to that on May 3rd the host was very accomodating and the
server was attentive. We also appreciate the Saturday night jazz.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a fine experienceBrought a good friend of mine here for Thursday dinner and she was rightfully impressed with the food (Smith Is. Crab cakes- A+) and the surroundings...always a great experience at Gertrudes: consistent and reliable.
My friend did suggest that the side, Asian noodle dish, might be offered warmed or cold :)5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a great place for aAlways a great place for a quality meal. Oyster Stew lacked the usual richness but everything else we ordered was top-notch.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, quality and greatGreat food, quality and great presentation. Great vegetarian/vegan selections5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMTuesdays with Gertie's is a TreatStellar service and food on the Tuesday specials, the only downside was the desserts were not quite up to our expectations. On the whole, our time was well spent.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Lunch!Stopped in for a long lunch with an old friend on a week day. We had great service, and he didn't mind that we took up a table for almost 2 hours! I had a tomato and porcini mushroom soup that was more on the just OK side, but I ordered the Spinach Salad with fried oysters, and oh my goodness was this one of the best salads I've have in a while. And the oysters were perfection! My friend had the Grilled Cheese and soup, and all were delicious for her, especially the fries. We split the Creme Brulee sampler for dessert, but should have just ordered the regular vanilla bean brulee, as it was the best of the three (though the pistachio was pretty good). A great lunch spot, will definitely go back!4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect Spot for Every Occasion!Gertrudes is my favorite go-to spot for practically every occasion. Sunday Brunch is a quintessential laid-back, jazzy affair with fabulous food. I've been to casual lunch in the sculpture garden and buisiness lunches under the tent -- John Shield's extensive, imaginative menu is always appropriate! BTW Shields was "doing" local and sustainable way before the trend kicked in - he incorporates his famed Chesapeake flavor into everything. An added bonus is it's location - in the BMA!4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMThe cream of crab soup didn'tThe cream of crab soup didn't have enough crabmeat, but otherwise the food was quite good. Our waitress more than made up for anything lacking in the kitchen.
Loved the unique minty soda. We had a wonderful time.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMVery nice for a museum cafeVery nice for a museum cafe. Probably one of the nicest dining experiences I've ever had at a museum. Would I make a special trip to eat there if I wasn't going to view the exhibits? Probably not, unless I was local.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMPretty GoodI went on a Saturday morning for brunch with my boyfriend and Aunt. I ordered the stuffed French toast, which was honestly just so-so. I wish that it had more of the cream cheese honey filling and the apples were cooked to mush. My boyfriend ordered the steak rancheros and he absolutely loved it. My aunt had the traditional crab cake with a side Caesar salad and she raved about it. Our waiter was awesome and the atmosphere was just perfect! I thought I would have trouble finding parking but there was a lot right by the restaurant. I would definitely come back again.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat lunch spot for pre-artGreat lunch spot for pre-art viewing, or just a get-together with friends. Wonderful attentive service without being intrusive.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMWe always enjoy dining atWe always enjoy dining at Gertrude's. The food and service are superb -- a real treat!4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious!Food and service were excellent! It gets busy so I would recommend to make an appointment. You gotta try the zuchette (I think that's how you spell it) is a zucchini fritter that almost looks like a crab cake. Delicious!4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMWe often go to Gertrude'sWe often go to Gertrude's for special occasions and their Tuesday night $12 dinner menu is a wonderful feature.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
