Georgia Brown'sHard to hear the ravesThe drinks, the food, all great. The band? Excellent but WAY TOO LOUD! Dinner on a Wednesday night I did not expect to have to yell to be heard. We had three at the table and one was always left out as you had to turn to face the person you were speaking to. The best part of our night was when the band took a break. It's nice to have music but it should be more in the background.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went on a Wednesday JazzWe went on a Wednesday Jazz night and the music was a perfect complement to an incredible southern meal. It was my girlfriend's birthday and it was a nice touch to put a candle on top of an amazing peach cobbler. She had the Amish chicken which practically fell off the bone and I had a bowl of shrimp, grits and andouille sausage that could have fed a party of three. Our waiter's name was Merle and he was friendly and outstanding.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMgood lunch spotclose to White House, I've had low country food just as good at lower prices but am sure we're paying for the location, definitely will go back for biz lunches5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMSouthern food with StyleGeorgia Browns was recommended to us , as a must go , while in DC. We made reservations and even though the restaurant was undergoing renovations had no difficulties with getting in.
Food was served quickly and the shrimp snd grits did not disappoint!
The only thing missing from the menu was "sweet tea"!
Filet and shrimp combo was excellent as was the sweet butter served with the bread basket. Be sure to try the peanut butter pie!5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways great food & serviceMother's Day brunch was outstanding! The food is always excellent to taste and you can't beat the idea of eating a buffet brunch and being able to bring home an entree. Love this place.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMMade Moither's Day even BETTER!I chose this place to take the women in my family for Mother's Day. They all enjoyed it. Our server Mario was fantastic! The take home meal was a plus. Definitely going back!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Mother's Day Brunch Spot !Enjoyed our Mother's Day Brunch. Loved that we could eat til our heart's delight and then take home our entree' for dinner.
I am sorry we missed all of the Jazz but the performance that we heard was really nice!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMDeliciousGeorgia Brown's is one of our favorite places to dine. The food is excellent and the atmosphere is lovely. I lok forward to my next visit.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMDining ExperienceLast Friday was my first time dining at Georgia Brown's. I've heard great things about the restaurant and I must say all of the reviews were on point. The service, setting and food were great. I will definitely recommend Georgia Brown’s to friends and I’m certain that I will be returning soon. Keep up the great work!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMSweet! We received a gift card from our daughter at Christmas for a meal at Georgia Brown's. It took us a while to find an excuse to be in the city, but it was definitely worth the wait. We were greeted by name when we arrived, setting the stage for great personal service from the staff. The food was absolutely great. I had the shrimp and grits and my wife had the salmon. I am a diabetic but it was easy to find food that I could eat. The tastes of the dishes made you anxious for the next bite, but the food was not heavy at all. This was an outstanding dining experience for those who like a New Orleans flavor in a Washington DC environment. Close to the McPherson Square Metro stop and downtown DC. You will definitely not be disappointed!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMSophisticated Taste of the SouthI took my family, including 8 and 10 year olds, after a day of sightseeing in DC. Everyone's dinner was delicious (they don't have a lot of options for kids, but they made them a half order of fried chicken with mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese which they loved). I had Low Country Shrimp and Grits and had to check myself from licking the bowl along with a delicious Kale salad. They had really great service as well. Highly recommended.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Food but Oh that band...The food was wonderful but it was a business dinner and thus a total mistake because we couldn't hear each other over the band, even when screaming. I have been to Georgia Brown's many times and the band has never been there before. The music is great, the food is great; I just wish I had known.....I;ll be back again, but not when I need to talk. Or at least I will call and find out about the band. Is there a way for Open Table to alert us when we make a reservation???5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMEverytime I visit DC I visitEverytime I visit DC I visit Georgia Browns. We went their on Sunday May 5th. to celebrate my husbands birthday and the food and the jazz group were excellent. Our waiter Marco was just fair, we sat for long periods of time before he checked on us. Plus I wouldn't rate him the most friendliest waiter. Other then that I can truthfully say that Georgia Browns is one of my favorite restaurant5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was very good, portionsFood was very good, portions were plentiful making leftovers to make room for the tasty dessert.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved it!I do not get southern food very frequently and loved the experience here. The service was excellent. The fried checked dinner with collard greens and mashed potatoes was superb. They did not drown the dish in gravy and you could have asked for it on the side. I had the Charleston Pelau and it was to die for. The portions are huge so come hungry!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMDown-home, comfort food, with classThis was our second visit. Both times, the food and service were great. Everything we ordered was wonderful.
We were at a table in a corner that felt a bit claustrophobic. With patrons and staff squeezing by frequently, the person in the 'hot seat' was getting banged around quite a bit and felt at risk of having a plate hit his head or getting something spilled on him (which almost happened a couple of times).
We moved the table and chairs around a bit but we felt squeezed in, which slightly affected our enjoyment.
Be warned that it is lively in there - lots of decibels - not a quiet, romantic spot.
But there's a great vibe and the food is awesome.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistent4 of us enjoyed a nice dinner and the food was amazing. Great menu selection, sides are unique, and wait staff is very professional. We've been several times and its consistently great each time.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMI LOVE this restaurant! TheI LOVE this restaurant! The food is to die for! The wait staff is professional and prompt and helpful, the decor is beautiful, the seating comfortable, and the ambiance is perfect largly due to few or no kids. Hope it stays this way.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMFeedbackThe food was great, but the choices are very slim there isn't much too choose from. Just my opinion, but other than that the food and the service was excellent!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMCalifornia was in the House ...As seasoned travelers from Guam to Africa we are tired of the humdrum presentation of a standard restaurant vociferating how wonderful their food is, when in reality the ambiance and food are nothing more than a place to kill hunger. Not so, with Georgia Brown's, not so. Entering past the entry we were greeted by a lovely smile in the form of the hostess and host. Eyes warm and spirits high these two gems accommodated us in a table of our desire, because, "California is in the house" ! What a welcome! We were presented with the most scrumptious appetizers just right for her, the crab cakes, and for him, the oysters. The entrees and desert were outstanding. The only bad part about this restaurant was having to leave.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMI have been dining here forI have been dining here for lunch for years - the food is fabulous and usually involves a doggie bag... The chicken livers cannot be beat!4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMJazz band was great, but aJazz band was great, but a little too loud. Everything else was awesome!4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food and the serviceGreat food and the service was excellent. Portions are huge.... One negative thing...the noise level (with the jazz band) was high, and not able to have a good table conversation4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious and friendly asDelicious and friendly as always. We eat here whenever we are in Washington.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food at Georgia Brown'sThe food at Georgia Brown's was amazing. I ordered the gumbo, and my friends ordered the meat loaf and the fried chicken. We tasted each others meals and all of it was great. They give you cornbread and biscuits while you wait for your food, with this butter that was to die for. Our waitress was amazing, and the interactions we had with other waitstaff was great too. I would definitely go there again.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMUsually I don't like flavoredUsually I don't like flavored teas but their sweet peach iced tea is delicious. It was a
Good experience but I do think that our waitor may have had too
Many tables as we had to wait a while for him to check on our table at times4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMA DC gem hidden across from the parFirst time at the restaurant and it wont be my last. They take the ordinary foods and make it extraordinary. Though expensive it was well worth it. The food is moist, hearty, and seasoned to perfection.
The drinks or maybe my Citrus mojito didn't impress me. I have had better Mojito's elsewhere. However, from the time we walked in until we left (and I had a toddler with me)we experienced the best service from our waitress and other servers.
The music makes for an even better time in the restaurant. They have the soul food you will talk about for days after. It is just that good.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMMy husband and I went hereMy husband and I went here to celebrate a special occasion and we had a wonderful time. Mark Bignell4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGood food, great ambienceThe food was tasty, well presented and great example of Southern Food. We thoroughly enjoyed it. The food was. great and the service was spectacular'4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMMy second time at this "southernMy second time at this "southern fusion" restaurant this year. The fried green tomatoes are wonderful, but I passed on the this time for the gazpacho special. Very, very good, with a blend of chill and pepperiness. I went to the low end of the entrees, pricewise, in selecting the catfish. Beautifully smoked, as if the chef had been smoking a Cuban cigar and had casually dropped some ash into the cooking. My wife had the southern fried chicken - good but not as distinctive as some of the dishes Ma Brown's is known for. Some quite intriguing specialty cocktails too. Educated, helpful, not-too-pushy waitpersons add to the ambience.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMThis restaurant was recommendedThis restaurant was recommended by the hotel staff and was such an awesome find. This is the best brunch buffet around. They have their own brunch cocktail list (LOVE the Bloody Mary!) and chocolate fondue. The live jazz band is always good. It's also located very close to the Mall, Smithsonian, and historic sights.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat variety on the buffetGreat variety on the buffet line, grits are the best!! The to go entrée is definitely a plus and the live entertainment sets a beautiful tone. One of my favorite spots!!4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was stellar! OnlyThe food was stellar!
