Georgia Brown'swhen my parents came to town.Took my folks, sister, and girlfriend. Great time, great food.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMHad a little trouble findingHad a little trouble finding it bc of the construction outside. The Host staff was friendly along with our waiter. We were served bread which consisted of biscuits and corn bread. I usually do not like corn bread bc of the dryness it can be sometimes, but these were fantastic !!! Only bad thing, or odd I would say, is that I asked the waiter which meal he liked the best, Shrimp and Grits or Perleau, he proceded to tell what Perleau was and compared it to a Spanish dish. I am not Spanish so I had no idea what dish he was talking about. Little did he know that I was a native of South Carolina and knew what it was. So with out me getting a recommendation from the waiter, I picked the Perleau and it was the best I ever HAD !!!6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMOn our to listOur third trip to DC as a tourist in three years. Going to Georgia Browns is as much part of our trip as visiting the memorials! We've always had excellent food and service.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious food - Great Service!Met my son, who is interning downtown this summer, for dinner after work. We both enjoyed ourselves and loved the food! Make a reservation as even on a Tuesday early evening-it was getting crowded!6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMComing BackOur waiter was Excellent, and so was my valet and reception at the entrance. It was the first visit for my client and I. We were pleased, though the greens and macaroni and cheese were likely not as good as usual only because it was a Monday evening. My Devil Shrimp, however, was divine! The Atlantic Salmon and grits were also divine, as was the fried green tomato appetizer.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMTwo meals for the price of one!!!The food was delicious!!!! The only thing was that my act II which was shrimp and grits was a little light. I just wonder if I hadn't ordered it to go would if have been a heartier serving and I say that because the gentlemen sitting to my right ordered their Act II meals to stay and they had huge portions (they ordered fish not shrimp & grits). Nevertheless if was tasty!6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMI don't care for Buffet style foodI'm not fond of BUffet Style food, but I must say Georgia Brown's Buffet was the best, the food was kept fresh, & the waiters & waitress was wioing down & cleaning up spills the entire time. I was very pleased with the restaurant.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMTop 5 in DC!Definitely exceeded all expectations! Catfish fingers and fried green tomatoes were perfect!!! Green beans, meatloaf, chicken, smashed potatoes.... There is nothing this place can't do right. Definitely coming back on a regular regimen. But I'll have to start jogging more :)6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMMy Go-to for Special OccasionsI always chose Georgia Brown's for special occasions. Be it my birthday, Mother's Day brunch or special date night, I love it. I've been dining there since 2004 and the service is always excellent. The food is delicious and after dinner we can walk the town. Living in the suburbs, we don't get to come in to the city much so when we do, it's great to have a place that you know what to expect: quality.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMEarly DinnerWe had an early dinner for 4 ppl. i had a peach martini, which was delicious. My friends had wine and beer. We ordered southern fried chicken, pork chop, gumbo, vegetarian sampler, and peach cobbler. All the dishes were good, except the vegetarian sampler was mediocre. The staff was nice and our waiter, Jermaine, was good and had a nice attitude. Overall, I enjoyed it and would recommend the place.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMWasn't as soul-ful as I expectedWe came because we had a hankering for collard greens and other soul food. And yet...first on the specials list: mahi mahi followed by other items not in the soul-comfort food category. My friend got fried chicken and I got meatloaf. The waiter brought a steak knife for my meat loaf and I looked up in shock and aksed, "Do I need a steak knife for the meatloaf?" He laughed and he said Oh no, I just brought it. But guess what, the steak knife was indeed needed! It was tough! Collard greens were just okay. My companion loved her fried chicken. All in all, nothing special from a food perspective. The waiter was excellent though the waiting time was long. Ambience is pleasant and it is easy to chat and hear tablemates in conversation.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMWe enjoyed a wonderful lunchWe enjoyed a wonderful lunch for a special occasion. Welcoming atmosphere, good service, delicious food. The only disappointment was dessert and coffee.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMMrGreat food! Attentive but not obtrusive wait staff! Good jazz! A little too noisy for conversation!6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome place!I ate at Georgia Brown's 3 years ago and when my family wanted to go back to DC, I knew I had to visit Georgia Brown's again! Even after 3 years, the place was great. The food was awesome and the server was a joy! Totally recommend!6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Brunch Buffet in a Long TimeThe brunch buffet was outstanding, each item was done incredibly well and there was never a shortage. The best parts of the buffet were some items that you just don't see on a regular basis, but were welcomed treats (biscuits and gravy, chopped pecans in maple syrup, shrimp and grits, etc.). Not to mention the dessert table and chocolate fondue fountain which was awesome. And as if the brunch buffet wasn't enough, a main entree to take home is included in the package. The food aside, the jazz band created a wonderful environment and the servers and staff were incredibly helpful. This was our (group of 5 + infant) best brunch experience in quite some time...a welcomed change from the waffles/french toast/eggs/$35 norm these days.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMVery Enjoyable!W had a darling server, the good was very good, prepared well with interesting flavors. This restaurant was recommended to us, we were visiting from Arizona & we too, will recommend it!6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat eveningWe had a celebration dinner for 4 and noted that on the reservation request. We had a great table and great service, with wonderful dinner selections for all.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat atmosphereThe restaurant is beautiful, the energy is lively, the host and waiters are very friendly, and they know how to make a drink. However, for the price the food was really average. The breading on the green tomatoes was overwhelming, the Mac n cheese was gritty, the fried chicken was dry withs bits of not fully cooked breading, and the catfish needed more seasoning.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMNice selection of low countryNice selection of low country comfort food prepared with upscale touches. Sunday night half price wines were a nice surprise. Only problem was draft beer system was inoperative and their bottled beer selection was very mundane. Otherwise I'd have given them an overall 5 star rating.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMwarm muffins pleaseAs always the food was excellent with the exception of the fried meat loaf. There was entirely too much fried batter and I couldn't enjoy the meat. I had to pull off the fried portions to enjoy it. Very overpowering. Also the bread was cold and hard. They say it's cooked fresh every day but that's hard to believe.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMWorth the BuzzTraditional southern food with a modern touch in a friendly surrounding. We were welcomed at the bar while awaiting the others in our party. Our server helped with information and suggestions. We are ate at a comfortable pace, enjoying our conversations. I've heard of Georgia Brown's for years but this was the first -- but not the last -- visit.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat spot in the DistrictI've heard many review about Georgia Browns; some good, some not so good. However, my review: Excellent! When I made my reservation, I told them I would be there for a 25th birthday dinner. When we arrived, we were promptly seated. And the maitre'd made sure to wish my friend a happy birthday without me saying anything! Our waiter was a bit weird, but we didn't allow that to overshadow the great ambiance and even greater food. Appetizers came out in no time and before we knew it, our entrees had arrived as well! The stuffed shrimp were delicious! I also had a side of mac & cheese and collards! They even bought out a birthday treat for my friend!! Great southern style restaurant with a elegant feel! Would definitely recommend to my friends!!5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMcreative dishesHave visited half a dozen times and consistent food quality and service. Creative dishes using southern staples with a twist. Love it.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMwaiter with real characterTook family from out of town here for a special birthday and they loved it. We had a great waiter, and the food was great. I'd recommend in a heartbeat5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMOne More TimeWe are unabashed fans this place. We eat here whenever we'in DC and have sent many folks there. This last visit we took two friends from the DC area who had never been. Georgia did not disappoint .5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat service! The ServiceGreat service! The Service was very professional and knowledgeable of the menu and made my wife's birthday a very special occasion!5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Sunday BrunchJust loved the Sunday Jazz Brunch. The food was outstanding.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMCome with an appetiteThe food was awesome. I was plesantly surprised when they said I could take my entreee home. There is a buffet, the entree and dessert. The buffet alone was more than enough. The live Jazz band was loud but enjoyable and very interactive.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Graduation DinnerWe celebrated a the graduation of a friend's daughter and it was a lovely festive evening. In addition to the great food and wonderful atmosphere, the restaurant staff kept congratulating the graduate and it made her feel so very special. A great evening for us all!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMTake me back home againFinding good food for Saturday lunch in DC is hard to do. Fortunately Georgia Brown was open and how we were rewarded! The Shrimp and Grits were the best we have ever had! and that says a lot for some one from Louisiana. Others had the crab stuffed shrimp which was delicious, the Perlau which was excellent and the fried meatloaf which was to die for!... Really good food. The service was also really, really excellent. Jose, our waiter, had a wonderful sense of humor which combined with his absolute professionalism made our experience a delight. Next time I'm coming back Sunday Jazz Brunch which is as much fun as it is delicious!.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGeorgia on my mindCame to DC for National Conference, and had tried many resturants during our stay but Georgia Brown's by far is our favorite! The food, the ambience and the waitstaff are the best in town! We made reservations for a party of 4 and were promptly seated. Our waiter Vernon made superb suggestions for the cocktails, food entrees and deserts. We were in culinary heaven! I had the deviled shrimp which was fantastic! I strongly recommend this establishment for any occasion where you want to be treated like royalty.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMThoroughly enjoyable. All 4 had the same impression. Excellent food. Best possible service. Reasonably priced. Relaxed eclectic atmosphere. Will be a must each time we visit DC. Shrimp and grits the biggest hit.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMSweet Georgia brownNot being from DC, this was only my second time to Georgia Browns and it did not disappoint. We were celebrating my daughters graduation so there were 6 of us. The service was very attentive and the food once again fantastic. Everyone had an enjoyable time. So much so that my husband was hoping to go again the next evening.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat place for a celebrationThanks to Georgia Brown's for making dinner during our son's graduation weekend a very special event! The food was delicious! Chef Bryan is amazing and all the staff from the moment we walked in until the moment we walked out made us feel so special!! Thanks to all for such a delightful experience!!5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMLove this restaurantEvery time we go to DC we try to dine at Georgia Browns. It never disappoints. The food is always good and the service is too. My only problem is deciding what to eat because everything on the menu looks wonderful.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious food. Hot. Hot. Hot.My girlfriend and really enjoyed the atmosphere with the live jazz ensemble and the food was delicious. We are looking forward to returning in the near future. We are hopeful that the climate control improves. It was uncomfortably warm in the restaurant on the night that we dined.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went on a Wednesday JazzWe went on a Wednesday Jazz night and the music was a perfect complement to an incredible southern meal. It was my girlfriend's birthday and it was a nice touch to put a candle on top of an amazing peach cobbler. She had the Amish chicken which practically fell off the bone and I had a bowl of shrimp, grits and andouille sausage that could have fed a party of three. Our waiter's name was Merle and he was friendly and outstanding.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMgood lunch spotclose to White House, I've had low country food just as good at lower prices but am sure we're paying for the location, definitely will go back for biz lunches5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMSouthern food with StyleGeorgia Browns was recommended to us , as a must go , while in DC. We made reservations and even though the restaurant was undergoing renovations had no difficulties with getting in.
Food was served quickly and the shrimp snd grits did not disappoint!
The only thing missing from the menu was "sweet tea"!
Filet and shrimp combo was excellent as was the sweet butter served with the bread basket. Be sure to try the peanut butter pie!5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways great food & serviceMother's Day brunch was outstanding! The food is always excellent to taste and you can't beat the idea of eating a buffet brunch and being able to bring home an entree. Love this place.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMMade Moither's Day even BETTER!I chose this place to take the women in my family for Mother's Day. They all enjoyed it. Our server Mario was fantastic! The take home meal was a plus. Definitely going back!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMMother's Day BrunchThis was a good choice for Mother's Day. My husband, two daughters and granddaughter all enjoyed the morning. We arrived at 10:15 for our 10:30 appointment and were timely seated. The lines for the buffet were reasonable, the service was very good as was the food. Though it was a very busy morning, we did not feel at all rushed and were able to thoroughly enjoy a leisurely meal.
In the future, we will request seating in an area with less traffic. It wasn't bad, but our table was next to buffet line. There appeared to be available seating in other areas for a party of our size.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Mother's Day Brunch Spot !Enjoyed our Mother's Day Brunch. Loved that we could eat til our heart's delight and then take home our entree' for dinner.
I am sorry we missed all of the Jazz but the performance that we heard was really nice!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMMemorable Mother's dayI thoroughly enjoyed my Mother's day dinner at Georgia Brown's. The food was awesomely delicious. The service was phenomenal.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMDeliciousGeorgia Brown's is one of our favorite places to dine. The food is excellent and the atmosphere is lovely. I lok forward to my next visit.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMHadn't been to Georgia Brown'sHadn't been to Georgia Brown's in a number of years and was reminded why it's a hot spot! Great food! Good power-lunch spot! Makes southern cuisine sophisticated!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMDining ExperienceLast Friday was my first time dining at Georgia Brown's. I've heard great things about the restaurant and I must say all of the reviews were on point. The service, setting and food were great. I will definitely recommend Georgia Brown’s to friends and I’m certain that I will be returning soon. Keep up the great work!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was crowded when I wentIt was crowded when I went but service was good. The food was good but not authentic soul food. It was also very hot inside the restaurant5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMSweet! We received a gift card from our daughter at Christmas for a meal at Georgia Brown's. It took us a while to find an excuse to be in the city, but it was definitely worth the wait. We were greeted by name when we arrived, setting the stage for great personal service from the staff. The food was absolutely great. I had the shrimp and grits and my wife had the salmon. I am a diabetic but it was easy to find food that I could eat. The tastes of the dishes made you anxious for the next bite, but the food was not heavy at all. This was an outstanding dining experience for those who like a New Orleans flavor in a Washington DC environment. Close to the McPherson Square Metro stop and downtown DC. You will definitely not be disappointed!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMSophisticated Taste of the SouthI took my family, including 8 and 10 year olds, after a day of sightseeing in DC. Everyone's dinner was delicious (they don't have a lot of options for kids, but they made them a half order of fried chicken with mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese which they loved). I had Low Country Shrimp and Grits and had to check myself from licking the bowl along with a delicious Kale salad. They had really great service as well. Highly recommended.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AM
