Diner Reviews
  • "Scheduled a late lunch for business. the restaurant was quiet and the staff was attentive even though i could see they were preparing for dinner. Excellent food."

  • "Just pick anything on the menu, you simply cant go wrong here. Very attentive service, standouts are the Devil Shrimp, Lamb Chops, Sugar -n -Spice pork, Brussels Sprouts...and the Crab Cakes are the absolute best. Nothing comes close to this place as far as southern cooking goes in DC"

  • "I loved the warm atmosphere of the restaurant. The food was divine and the service was excellent. A great recommendation; a southern surprise in the heart of DC."

  • "Place was recommended by a friend and he was right. Food was outstanding and the atmosphere was fantastic."

  • "New Orleans cuisine. Tasty. Diverse menu. All 3 diners enjoyed their appetizers & mains. 2nd visit in the last 5 years."

  • "The peach martini was really good. The atmosphere is great. It is some place to try. Hopefully you'll find the food better than we did. Had really high hopes of this place. The service was ok - they could have sold a few more glasses of wine to us had they been more in top of it. Desserts were good."

  • "Ate here our last night in Washington, D. C. Waited a little too long to be seated as we had a reservation. Service was good, food was very good, waiter not so great. Atmosphere very good, noise level on a Saturday night way too loud. Jack Daniels' Chocolate Icecream delicious, Seafood Stew delicious!"

  • "Took friends who are moving to foreign country for something special in Washington -- real southern cuisine. GB did not disappoint. Waiter was upbeat, made recommendations ("my favorite dish is..."). Bread/bisquits were excellent, as were desserts."

  • "The service was poor. It was my GFs Birthday and I wish I had taken her somewhere else. The waiter was in a bad mood. I asked him why and he said he was fasting. Maybe he should have stayed home and fasted. He totally ruined our outing!"

  • "This restaurant did not live up to my expectations."

  • "Our server was excellent, despite the fact that he'd been working since 8 am and our dinner reservation was for 8 pm. He'd been there for hours and despite clearly looking tired, he did a great job with our four top. Fried green tomatoes, deviled eggs, and macaroni and cheese were great. Overall food was good and server did a good job. I'm glad I went and the experience was nice, but I wasn't wowed by it."

  • "Georgia Brown's is one of our favorite downtown restaurants and it is ALWAYS a hit with out-of-town friends, family, and colleagues from around the country. The wait staff is knowledgeable and professional. Win, Win, Win"

  • "I had a five o'clock reservation. Hostess was not exactly rude but totally indifferent. The restaurant was basically empty but I was seated at a table that was awkwardly angled against a wall in front of the waitstaff station. Somehow they managed to ignore me. I have dined in many very fine establishments and this is probably one of the worst. My food was no better than I could have gotten at a Chinese buffet. don't go there..."

  • "The service was slow and not enthusiastic. The food was so-so. It's a nice venue with a great location. I'm sure that's the only reason they're still around."

  • "Growing up in North Carolina, I was really excited to *finally* get a taste of southern cooking that I miss so much down south. Loved the biscuits and gravy, but there was nothine else specific to the South from the brunch items. Also, Peach Tea is not a suitable substitute for Southern Sweet Tea. The peach cobbler was ok. I was dissapointed in the Pecan Pie. Not fresh, and it was not worth the complete $40 experience. Also, I was terribly disappointed in the fried chicken. It was not even close to the fried chickens that taste more fresh and tasty in southern *gas stations*. Nabbing down our waiter was a bit difficult at times. Overall, C+ dining experience from a Southerner tasting DC's take on Southern cuisine."

  • "We were seated in a timely manner and the valet service was an excellent touch since we could not find parking."
    Dined on 6/29/2014
  • "Menu was a little uninspired (everything had the same ingredients) and the service was slow. Seemed pretty touristy. Live jazz was good."
    Dined on 6/25/2014
  • "The food was good but not as good as we had hoped. Unfortunately the temperature in the restaurant was a problem - so warm as to be uncomfortable. Very loud - lots of large groups, but we should have expected that on a Saturday evening. Service was a bit slow but then it was very crowded so not a big issue."
    Dined on 6/28/2014
  • "The service was very good but I was surprised at the meager ceasar salad that was brought to me with barely any dressing on it - none that I could taste and half of the plate filled with sliced tomatoes. The entre was a little better but not fantastic. The macaroni and cheese contained little flavor - and where was the cheese?. Very little AC . This place is on the decline and riding off of reputation. As a past supporter who used to dream about the food I left disappointed."

  • "I enjoyed my dinner at Georgia Brown's, although I was a bit disappointed with their collard greens. This was the only thing I was not quite as I have come to expect."

  • "Visited with a group of girlfriends on a weekday. It was quiet, in a good way, and we were seated quickly. You have to love a restaurant whose bread basket includes biscuits and cornbread - what a great way to start. We shared the appetizer sampler; the fried green tomatoes were stellar - crispy without being greasy. The deviled eggs and bacon wrapped dates were outstanding as well. Ignoring my better instincts to eat lightly following the appetizers, I ordered the pork chop. It was nice, but I really liked the yams it sat atop. Sadly, none of us made it to the dessert round, but I look forward to going back to try the Jack Daniel's ice cream, or maybe the Bourbon Chocolate pecan pie. I've no doubt they will be great."

  • "I often dine at Georgia Brown's when I'm in D.C. I recently met friends there for dinner. The food was very good as usual. However, the waiter was a little distracted so the service was not great. However, I had never experienced this in the past so I won't let that deter me from going back."

  • "Outstanding experience with high quality food, excellent and friendly service, good wines and a good price-quality ratio."

  • "This restaurant has some fantastic food. It has the right combination of great food, good location, and moderately priced."

  • "I made brunch reservations for my Father on Father's Day at Georgia Brown's. First of all if I have a reservation for 3Pm, I expect to be seated no later than 3:00 not almost 3:30. One of the hostesses changed my party's name without us even knowing she did so. We were put at a table that seated five(barely), and there was 7 of us. Talk about a tight, tight squeeze. The Brunch buffett was getting low on food by the time we were seated and able to go up to the buffett. Nothing was being replenished. Stuff was cold and just tasteless. The fried chicken that my party had ordered was not seasoned and neither were the greens. I never thought that after leaving a brunch buffett..I would have to stop and get something else to eat on the way home."

  • "Group lunch was great from beginning to end. Hostess was prompt to seat us, our server Chris was attentive the entire time we were there. Every bite of food was delicious. Plan to return and remind friends."

  • "I enjoyed my brunch and my server was attentive and helpful. He was especially nice in that he brought my friend her phone after she left it in the restaurant. I am looking for an excuse to return."

  • "Our group tried a wide variety. Only things we liked were beet salad and the citrus in the white sangria. We ate there years ago and really liked it but this time all the food was heavy, salty and greasy except for the dishes mentioned above."

  • "Ambience was perfect for the kick off of our 4 year wedding anniversary celebration"

  • "this is a lovely restaurant, except that it is impossible to have a pleasant conversation with a table mate. Just incredibly noisey even without the musicians - AND I had requested a quiet table when I made the reservation. Won't suggest going back for Sunday brunch unless I decide to just stare at my table mate."

  • "The food was good, but nothing special. I had their fried chicken, which I was told was one of they're favorite dishes. It was good but..........nothing special."
    Dined on 6/21/2014
  • "This brunch is fabulous. Great variety and quality ingredients. As a component of the brunch you order an entre that you can take home so it is also a bargain for the price. One other thing to mention - SGB's food is NOT oversalted and that is a rarity in the dining scene!"

  • "Almost 10 years since we first dined her, the food was exactly the same -- excellent and refined comfort food -- after all these years."
    Dined on 6/21/2014
  • "The food is good southern fare and the service is good as well. It's not a place for a large family with kids, though, in my opinion. I don't think they even have a kids menu, although I could be wrong. We took our nine year old son on a Thursday night and didn't necessarily feel out of place, but he might have been the youngest in the restaurant. The bar scene was hopping. The staff were all very friendly and timely. The food was good and something different after eating "American" food most of the week. I would definitely go back and would recommend to friends."

  • "I had the rainbow trout, kids had mac/cheese. All the food was excellent and server was excellent. Definitely recommend Georgia Browns. We are from Florida."

  • "We had a reservation for 8:30 p.m. but had to wait 20 minutes for our table. There were live musicians playing when we arrived. Because the space is not very large, the music was very loud and overwhelming. The restaurant was very hot. At first I thought it was because we were near the front door but after finally being seated everyone our group of 7 were extremely hot and feeling sweaty! It seemed as though the air conditioner was broken. There was no cool air during our entire dinner. Looking around I noticed others were clearly uncomfortable. This is not interfere with the great service and even better food! Very uncomfortable dining experience, almost worth sitting in the hot restaurant."
