Diner Reviews
  • "With the exception of one particular waiter who was rude, GB is my spot. I hope they get rid of the problem, because all the other servers are Great. Never experienced this before and hope the plague is wiped out. I like GB, but the next I go if he us there, that will b my last visit. Manager is outstanding and I hope she gets rid of him. He's ghetto and that is not the place for that."

  • "After all these years this restaurant seems to only get better with food "to die for." My favorite is the chicken liver appetizer. For the last week I have been dining out with my family from out of town. This was the last restaurant stop prior to their departure. They raved about the food and stated that when they come back to DC that they will visit Georgia Brown's again."

  • "My husband and I were celebrating our 6th wedding anniversary and chose Georgia Brown's. I lived in the DMV back in the late 90s and visited Georgia Brown's a few times. My husband had never been to the DC area and wanted to celebrate there. I felt this would be a great opportunity for us to go together and I'm glad we did. He loved it! The food was great, the service amazing, and the band was awesome!! The only bad experience, which is no reflection on the restaurant, was the rude valet attendant. We traveled from Memphis and would definitely go again."

  • "A collegue from Atlanta was on business in DC. I suggested Georgia Brown for dinner since he was staying at the St.Regis Hotel. It was easy t get a reservation via Open Table. Our meals and I suggest the pork chops were excellent. Ok -- I will return again Excellent spot"

  • "This was our second time visiting Georgia Brown's and, similar to the first visit, the food was fantastic and the waitress was great -- very humorous and attentive. We had dinner reservations for 7:30 but they were able to seat us early. It was a VERY busy night and the place was packed; however, the food and service did not suffer one bit. It was nothing less than phenomenal. If I had to complain about something, it would be that the tables for two are extremely close to one another. The noise level is high and you pretty much have to yell to talk to your dinner mate which is more than likely disruptive to the neighboring table."

  • "Recommend the fried green tomatoes, devil shrimp, rainbow trout & meatloaf."

  • "The food was great -- my group had the salmon, fried meatloaf, devil shrimp, the skirt steak, and the chocolate bourbon pecan pie. Service was a bit inattentive and the food took forever. The most noticeable thing, however, was that it was deafeningly loud the entire time we were there. Granted, Friday night around 8pm. But I did not enjoy shouting my entire birthday dinner. I'd come back, but would request outdoors, as that seemed much quieter."

  • "I have not been to a restaurant in a while that left me with nothing good to say. I noted a change in GB's a couple of years ago, but today made me know that the change was real. There was no soul in the soul food. Everyone including the server we had just seemed to be going through the motions. It was almost sad. What happened to the love."

  • "This was my 2nd visit in 5+ years, but the food was not as good as I remembered. I ordered the fried chicken and the menu nor the server mentioned it would be slathered with gravy that I would not have requested. The mac and cheese was good but the yams mushy. Server was professional, yet inattentive, not paying attention to restaurant social ques and had to ask someone else to find him twice."

  • "Service was great. Had the pork chop for lunch. Cannot recommend because was very dry, unseasoned, and looked a bit rare."

  • "My friend and I came from NYC for the weekend and it was a great choice. We started with the catfish appetizers and the mussel pot. They were served in no time and came out hot and fresh! It was perfectly seasoned and tasted amazing. There was a great coleslaw that came with the catfish appitizers that had a nice twist with grapes and feta cheese--it was devoured! For entrees we had the fried catfish with honey glazed yams and collard greens! I loved every bit. It came out fresh and hot as well. I loved the fact that it was not overly salty like some southern restaurants were. My friend had the shrimp and grits--the grits were creamy and thick. Not runny and tastes wonderful. I will definitely make another visit!"

  • "For a party of five, the entrees and appetizers that we ordered were excellent except do not order the pork chop well done. My mistake. The appetizers arrived before our drinks but only a few minutes. Waiters and staff were very friendly and patient. It was rather noisy so we did have to talk above our normal range but we were seated very close to the front door. We will definitely return on our next trip to DC."

  • "The food and service are wonderful at this restaurant, but the accoustics make for a very noisy environment. tables were also too close together for a romantic dinner for two. This makes it a great place for large (noisy) groups, but not such an ideal location for a quiet romantic dinner. The restrooms would deserve more attention as their cleanliness is not up to the standard of the rest of the restaurant."

  • "Last Friday, my wife and I visited Georgia Browns for the second time and it was horrible. We enjoyed our experience on the previous visit which brought us back. We had an 830 pm reservation and dined outside on the street. First I asked for a candle because it was dark. The candle didn't come until the check. We ordered the truffle Mac and cheese which was good, it went downhill from there. My wife had the BBQ chicken. It was dry and tasted like it was baked w/o seasoning & BBQ sauce on top. I had the pork chop, over cooked & dry as a bone. I only ate two bites of the chop and wife ate none of her chicken. No one cared because barely eaten meals should have raised a red flag. We agreed that we won't be back or recommend GB."

  • "It was my birthday so I wanted to have a great meal with some close friends. The Staff was great and patient with our large group. There were twelve of us and only three of us had dined there before. Everyone enjoyed their meals - from the Lamb Chops to the Shrimp Perlau to the Shrimp and Grits. There were NO complaints from anyone! The Fried Green Tomatoes are always delicious as were the Mussels for light appetizers. I tried the Devil Shrimp for the first time and enjoyed it! The Mac and Cheese and Spinach made the entree even better. The Georgia Peach Martini and Peach Cobbler were so yummy and were a great way to end the evening. I will definitely be back soon:-)"

  • "Even with the reservation we had, we get horseshoed into a 2 person table crammed in between other tables. I absolutely hate that. It reminds me of why I seldom dine in DC. (I don't see this in other cities). You have no privacy at all, it reminds me of riding metro. Secondly, while the waiter's attitude was good, he was way unprepared....he couldn't answer any questions we had about the food items (how is the fish cooked, etc.) and did not have the finer points of service down at all. The drinks took a long time to arrive and were weak. The food was actually pretty good, but it was kind of tough to enjoy it due to the surroundings."

  • "While visiting from out of state I took a group of colleagues to this restaurant and everyone loved it! Our service was extraordinary and the food outstanding. Live jazz music played in the background while every effort was made to satisfy us. Excellent all around."

  • "Visited with a friend from out of town, both our first time to the restaurant. We enjoyed the options available on the lunch pre-fixe menu, the food was reasonable, but the service from CHRIS would encourage me to return! He was friendly, knowledgable about the menu and super accommodating! Ask for him when dining here!"

  • "We went to Georgia Brown's with friends who had just arrived from France. The staff was amazing - bringing out mac n cheese for the littlest before we even ordered! True hospitality which really impressed our French guests. The food was great - unique southern flavors. The only negative was that they required a credit card to hold the reservation. It seemed odd to me and made it difficult to make the reservation while I was sitting in a meeting at work because I had to pull out my credit card to type in the number. I could never find the cancellation policy for them on open table or on their website. It made the ease of reservations on open table ineffective. I almost didn't reserve here for this very reason. Otherwise - highly recommended."

  • "She used to be the sweetest, hottest plance in town. She's gone a bit tatty now. My guest and I both ordered their vegetarian lunch. Tasteless, bland, boring, overcooked, no elegance. Neither of us finished our meal. Will say that the service was excellent."

  • "Just pick anything on the menu, you simply cant go wrong here. Very attentive service, standouts are the Devil Shrimp, Lamb Chops, Sugar -n -Spice pork, Brussels Sprouts...and the Crab Cakes are the absolute best. Nothing comes close to this place as far as southern cooking goes in DC"

  • "Ate here our last night in Washington, D. C. Waited a little too long to be seated as we had a reservation. Service was good, food was very good, waiter not so great. Atmosphere very good, noise level on a Saturday night way too loud. Jack Daniels' Chocolate Icecream delicious, Seafood Stew delicious!"

  • "My wife and I ate at Georgia Brown's during the 4th of July weekend. It was an educational experience. I ordered the cowboy steak medium rare, which was served medium to done with no or little evidence of pink. Our waiter even said the steak was not medium rare and took it back. Another steak was brought out much later and served rare. The manager appeared and I told him the second steak was rare, and not close to being medium rare. His immediate remark was that he did not think there was anything wrong with the first steak that I was served and that it was a difference in opinion in what medium rare is. His remark was a first for me. I am now "educated" in knowing that medium rare in Washington, DC is not the same everywhere."

  • "The peach martini was really good. The atmosphere is great. It is some place to try. Hopefully you'll find the food better than we did. Had really high hopes of this place. The service was ok - they could have sold a few more glasses of wine to us had they been more in top of it. Desserts were good."
