Diner Reviews
  • "We love going to George's Ocean Terrace lunch. We thought we'd try dinner for a change. A couple of us ordered the Asian skirt steak, great flavor, but, a little chewy.Overall wonderful dinner. We will probably stick to our favorite lunch menu!!! Great view!! "

  • "This was my second visit to Georges. The view is amazing, the food is good and the servers are very pleasant and efficient. A lovely place for lunxh."

  • "This has been our fifth to sixth time here, and the view is the major attraction. Nothing beats the beautiful sunset and glistening blue water of La Jolla from the Terrace of George's. Reservations are mandatory during peak times; otherwise, expect a lengthy wait as few want to give up their prime seating too quickly. The service was excellent and attentive as usual, but this time the food was only good, or at least what we ordered rated #3. The crispy calamari was okay, while the pork tacos lacked seasoning, and I'm a person who does not normally season my food when cooking and definitely not after it's cooked. My wife had fish tacos and she said they were good. Our friend's salmon entrée was good as well. "

  • "Had a terrific lunch overlooking beautiful La Jolla shore. Our server was very good. Had good suggestions, didn't bother us too much, and was very friendly. We were celebrating a good medical result and enjoyed some very nice wine and appetizers. Fish tacos - excellent! Cooked to perfection. Have been here many times and will continue to visit for the view, ambience and excellent food. "

  • "We try to get to Georges at least once each trip to the San Diego area. Always impressed--never disappointed. The food is consistently excellent as well as the waitstaff. The setting is worth the trip."

  • "My husband and I love going to the Ocean Terrace. The view is spectacular! This was our first time dining for lunch. We started with the chips & salsa which were amazing. The chips had a great seasoning on them and the perfect crunch! My husband had the Ruben and I had the blackened fish sandwich. Both were delectable. We recommend The Terrace to anyone we know who will be traveling to the La Jolla area! "

  • "We went to George's for the view of La Jolla cove. But, the food was really interesting and good. My kid loved the calamari and all the appetizers and entrees were great. Would definitely recommend."

  • "Meet expectations! Love the scenic view. We made a reservation and specifically asked to be seated by the glass wall to enjoy the ocean view. We didn't have to wait long to be seated or the food to come out. Food tasted really good, but portions a bit small for the price. I will definitely come back the next time I'm around La Jolla."

  • "No need to review in detail this restaurant given the average high score. Just want to mention that you'll get high quality food. The place is always very busy (and noisy) so make your reservations."

  • "Had reservations for 1:15pm on a Friday afternoon in April & still didn't get seated until 1:30pm and we didn't even get front row seating although our table still had wonderful views. This only goes to show how popular this spot is! The views were amazing, the food was excellent, I really enjoyed the whole experience including the wonderful service. If your in La Jolla make sure George's Ocean Terrace is on your list but be prepared to wait for the best tables!"

  • "Definitely a top tier restaurant. All elements present: good food, ambiance, scenery and service. Wait for mains were slightly longer ... finished my glass of gruner veltliner before fish tacos came."

  • "We had a party of 9 and were able to get a table on the railing with an amaaaazing view of the cove! The food was very good and reasonably priced. Great drink selection as well. Excellent service. I will bring friends and family here whenever they visit us in San Diego! We booked the reservation the night before on opentable. The place was packed, so would recommend making a reservation so you can dine with what seemed to be the rich & famous..."

  • "Amazing view but limited menu. Food was good but not great. Excellent drink menu."

  • "the reason you come here is for the view. I wouldn't say I would not come back, but it would really only be for a drink at the bar and the view. when you arrive, there is a bit of a foul fishy odor. don't know if it is the restaurant or the location above the cove, but when we sat at the edge of the terrace, it did not smell bad, so my feeling was it was the restaurant. the food was nothing special. the bus boys/girls were much more attentive and available than our waiter. he got some of our order wrong and was difficult to track down. all in all, if it weren't for the view, I don't know if this place would survive. I was a little disappointed."

  • "Good cocktails, great service, food ok. We would still go back, the view is incredible."

  • "The view of La Jolla cove was beautiful. When it got colder they offered blankets which helped to keep us warm, however it was still chilly. The food was mediocre. I came with 5 people. The tombo was good. The pork was bland and overlooked, the clams and spaghetti were ok but a small serving and the skirt steak was too salty."

  • "We spent our last evening of vacation in La Jolla having a spectacular meal at George's. Reserved a table on the upper terrace on the railing - beautiful sunset - completely clear and warm weather. When the sun went down and it became chilly, nice clean blankets were brought around to chilly guests. Lovely touch. The food - fantastic! Everything was prepared perfectly - and a great wine list - even by the glass. You don't always see a Turley Juvenile by the glass - just terrific. Great experience and if you're in La Jolla, you should definitely take in Georges!"

  • "We have been married for over 40 years and five years ago, we found George's as a place to go for our anniversary dinner. What a gem! Even though we live in Arizona, we drive over for our anniversary dinner. Well worth the time and effort to celebrate our "foreverness" at such a special place."

  • "I've been here 5 times and there's something about it that keeps me coming back! It must be the view, the service, and the food! I love bringing visitors here. :) This was my 2nd time bringing my mother here for her birthday - its her favorite place in La Jolla!"

  • "We made a reservation at George's after great recommendations from friends for a Bon Voyage dinner. The restaurant did not disappoint! The staff was friendly, the food was good, and the location was great. The price was very reasonable for the amount of food ordered and I would definitely return again should I ever need a go to place to eat in La Jolla. The only drawback was that it was quite breezy and it did get chilly but George's even supplied blankets for everyone that needed them."

  • "Great romantic spot. I recommend it for lunch, sunset or at night. Our server (Brian) was great. Food was good. The view is fabulous. Recommend wholeheartedly."

  • "If the wind is blowing in from the water, the stench of the nearby cove should scare you away. Otherwise, its a great view with good food and wine. Either way it will be a memorable occasion."

  • "Ideal way to view the cove action and beauty and never leaving your table. The day we dined turned chilly and the outdoor heaters plus warm throws offered to each dinner was the perfect touch. Food was very good and not the usual burger patio menu. Our two teenage boys were well-fed and thoroughly enjoyed the views of seals, cliffs and eccentric swimmers and surfers. Highly recommend. Later times offer a more vibrant bar crowd."

  • "My new bride and I's first date was at George's, we returned to celebrate the event that vaulted our relationship one year later. All was great! The shrimp cocktail was to die for. The service was attentive and extraordinary as usual."

  • "It's all about the view. The food was average. Portions are small and the price is large. There is a funny smell in the area, so it makes the experience less enjoyable. Our waiter was friendly and did a great job."

  • "George's is one of the special restaurants of La Jolla. The food is only out-shined by the view! You MUST get the soup! It has been on the menu for over two decades for a reason folks! I will be back again and again!"

  • "If you want an amazing roof top view, fabulous food and friendly staff ... this is the place to go. I had the fish tacos which were very tasty, juicy and beautifully plated. It's a very busy place so reserve early. You will be really close to your neighbours so share your secrets at a different location."

  • "The view is unbelievable & the food/service was amazing. Start to finish, the staff new we were there to celebrate a joint birthday which was really nice to feel acknowledged. The beginning felt a bit rushed, I think they like to turn the tables quickly which is understandable, since their view is so stunning. It's a high demand, bustling place! I was glad we ordered each course separately or we would have been finished in 30 minutes. The fresh strawberry basil martinis were awesome & we loved the butternut squash bruchetta, grilled shrimp and the short rib special. Everything was delicious! The dessert list looked great, but we wanted to go to the wine bar down the street so we skipped it. Robert, our server, took great care of us!"

  • "This restaurant was recommended to us by a number of people so we went there with high expectations. The cocktails were outstanding, but we found the food to be mediocre, especially given the prices and the hype of the restaurant. Unfortunately, we were unable to get reservations at sunset, so we went just before sunset. The views from the terrace were remarkable and created a beautiful atmosphere for dinner and drinks however we had a similar, if not better, view of the sunset by walking down to the waterfront after dinner."
