A word from George's California Modern
Occupying the lower level of iconic George’s at the Cove in the heart of La Jolla overlooking the Pacific coastline, George’s California Modern is an upscale contemporary restaurant featuring the thoughtful and inventive cuisine of acclaimed Executive Chef/Partner Trey Foshee. Working with mostly locally sourced products, Foshee artfully combines ingredients to create modern dishes that tell a story, with pure, intensified flavors and interesting flavor combinations. Combined with stunning ocean views, a modern design aesthetic, extensive wine list, seasonal craft cocktails and a relaxed yet refined service approach, the California Modern experience has been described as “evoking San Diego and capturing its culinary essence.”

George’s California Modern serves dinner nightly, including an a la carte menu or new six-course tasting menu with smaller tastes of items Foshee and his team are especially proud of and that may be fleeting in their availability

decided to have weekend getaway in La Jolla. Georges was high on the list of must trys. No disappointment. Pleasant and educated staff. Tasty and innovative cocktails. We each decided to go with the 4 course meal and wine pairing. I had the Albacore tartar, The egg yolk and mushroom and the Lamb. Each of the courses was simply brilliant. The portions were appropriate. The wine pairings were tasty. simply great meal.

I had the 4 course tasting menu & wine paring. The food was outstanding & perfectly presented. Creamy risotto with white truffles was a splurge worth every nickle. Going in I thought no bread pudding could please me more the traditional recipe w/ boubon sauce. I stand correctd. The seasonal pumpkin bread pudding was a unique twist and a beautifully plated dessert. George's truely captures the taste of San Diego by combing seasonal & fresh local favorites. Most impressive to me was the call I recieved the next morning thanking me for coming & asking again if I was pleased with dinner. A 1st for me. I consider myself a particular foodie with high expectations. They have raised the bar.You have not been to LaJolla if you dont go to George's.

To celebrate my boyfriend's birthday I wanted to take him somewhere nice with great food & George's California Modern fit the bill. I made a note on my reservation about the occasion, and as soon as we checked in with the Hostess, the bf was already getting Birthday Wishes from the staff. The place is nice, nothing extravagant about decor, but you get the Cali Modern aesthetics. Service was wonderful and the food was delicious. We both opted for the 4 course tasting menu which had a wide selection. I opted for the wine pairing and it perfectly complemented each dish I enjoyed. Overall, food, service, and overall experience is a solid 4.5 stars.

We tried to get there before our reservations so we could sit on the patio and watch the sunset. We got there around 5:45 pm and both of the bars were full and did not allow standing room. Had to walk down the street to another bar just so we could get a pre-dinner cocktail. Our table ordered fish tacos, the local albacore, and the short ribs. All plates were cleaned at the end of dinner. Fish tacos were not what I was expecting, however I was not disappointed one bit. They were delicious! Not your typical "taco", but definitely worth a try. Service was excellent.

We had a special family dinner at George's California Modern on Saturday Night. The food was very fresh, superbly prepared and artfully presented. The dishes of each of the diners had a combination of great flavors. We started off with some of their specialty cocktails and they made a non-alcoholic version of one of them for my 18 year old daughter. We each chose to have the 4 course tasting menu and each chose a different entrée. We shared tastes of each of our dishes with others and everything I tasted was delicious. Considering we were having 4 courses, the serving portion was appropriate. The wine list was excellent. We had a terrific time. George's has two other rooms at the same location, the Bar and the Ocean Terrace.

This restaurant is an old favorite and every time we are in San Diego I try to eat here. But his time we came early enough, at 5:30pm and got a window table. We had the tasting menu. I had the wine pairing as my husband was driving. The food and the wine were superb. The service was impeccable. Friendly and not stuffy. It is fir a special occasion or for a very good meal. They also called the day after to inquire how we liked it.

My Husband and I came here for our 10 year wedding anniversary, I am such a food and wine fanatic and this place was heaven for me! My Husband isn't a foodie or wino, so he was apprehensive about portions, ambience, etc. (thinking that he'll be hungry when we got home) but he was pleasantly surprised. We ordered from the 4 course tasting menu and I did mine with the wine pairing, it's amazing how wine can really bring out the flavors of the food, they did a fantastic job on this! Lobster Ravioli was the best! The bread divine, the lamb just melted in my mouth and the pear salad was delicious! Such a great experience!

Eight of us, all from out of town, met at George's for an early dinner. The staff was superb, the setting beautiful, and we would have enjoyed being together almost anywhere but chose Georges based on a local friends recommendation. We started with a bottle of Billecart-Salmon and all chose the 4 course with the wine pairing. The waiter/chef choose mine rewarding me with ceviche, grilled sardines, lamb and essence of banana pudding. Each was well presented, with depth of flavors that respected the main ingredient but surprised in a good way. Wines were of good quality and intelligently matched with the course. Early on we were sharing bites and talking food ideas. A thoroughly enjoyable evening with no negatives.

Meal was unique (vegetable paella), very tasty and steaming hot. The manager came over to each table and asked about our experience, which really was very nice. The food was great with the entrees' taste and presentation being a highlight. We had the Short Rib and Lamb. Some of the desserts are a little confusing until you've had the whole dish. I'd go back for a special occasion. The one thing is our reservation was at 8 pm and they seated us in the non-ocean view room, so we didn't get to enjoy the full George's view. Before our reservation, we wandered up to the Ocean Terrace to catch the last moments of the sunset. We definitely plan to go back earlier, on a week night to better experience the Terrace, which really is remarkable.

By far the best restaurant in All of San Diego. Beautiful plush purple sofas, and ocean views while you dine. Service is timely and attentive, but never intrusive. We dined on the lamb and fresh sea bass, started with the fresh caught prawns and lobster raviolis, ending with vanilla pudding and carrot cake. Theses dishes were like no other. The presentations you wanted to take a picture before you took a bite. Portions are just right, enough to savor every morsel on your plate. A dining experience you will never forget. Enjoy.

Great view, ambiance, and service but the food is just tolerable. I could buy a better tasting chicken at Vons. Sorry, but I could. And the mushy corn, so-so sorbet, side of cow that passes for their beef dish-none of it was good. It wasn't actively bad, just not good. The restaurant manager was sweet and all, but the best view and service in the world can't make up for the food. I would not go here again. The best part of the meal was the Bread and Cie bread basket.

Food was very good. The 4 course meal offered a great deal of food, on the border of almost too much. I went for dinner with my sister. We ordered different appetizers, entree & dessert dishes so we could sample more of the chefs cooking. Really of the 4 appetizers there was only one that was so so for me and that was a sardine dish that was just a little to fishy for my taste. But absolutely loved the fish tacos, which was sashimi. My sisters dessert was also just so so. It was the brown butter cake. The fruit accompaniment was very good, but the cake was dense and seemedike a fancy donut. However my dessert was the perfect end to an amazing meal. The whipped coconut with lemongrass & a ginger consume. YUM! Overall very good.
