The 4-course special was superb. Beautiful and flavorful seasonal vegetables highlight highest-quality proteins. Favorites included the first-course dungeness crab with pea puree and tomato water, the fluke in uni sauce, the second-course raviolini in ramp puree, the smoked fish (I forget which species) collar, and 3-way California lamb--a beautiful lamb chop, unusual lamb belly, and a piece of braised lamb shoilder. The only negative note was the lemon curd dessert (a deconstructed lemon meringue pie)--the curd was rubbery and jelly-like rather than a creamy curd. The restaurant is modern and upscale. The scallops & the lamb were by far my favorites. For the appetizer, the "fish Tacos" are uniquely prepared. If you like sashimi, you'll love their "fish tacos". Nevertheless, the crab omelet was stuffed with very tender shredded crab meat. Arugula salad was excellent with a tasty, light vinaigrette. The 'basket' of baked goods was an attractive, savory selection of three moist muffins. The service was attentive without being intrusive.

My husband and I have been coming here monthly for 9 years and George's never has disappointed us. We so look forward to our amazing experience from the moment we walk through the door. I think it's unique to find a restaurant that is always spot on. The service, the food, the ambiance, just wonderful. This time we were here to celebrate my husband's birthday. He sure enjoyed himself and left with a big smile in his heart. Arriving a bit early, I was quickly and graciously seated. This gave me a chance to explore the options on Chef's testing menu for my two colleagues who clearly did not support Mom's mandate "...to eat all the veggies on your plate". Food allergies also came in to play, so flexing to meet our needs was not simple. After due consideration, we did not get the tasting menu option, but just the willingness to work with my friends speaks to the dynamics of the kitchen. What we did have turned out to be superb: lamb and beef with seafood starters. When we got to the restaurant there were 2 tables avaialbe, and we were told they can only seat 8 at these tables, (we were a party of 6). One of the party's came and they were seated at the table for 8 and only had 5 in their party, less than ours.....

Each dish was presented by a knowledgeable server, complete with a thorough and tantalizing description of the ingredients and preparation methods and every item was as delicious as it was attractive.

Love the cocktail menu to start. The fish tacos (which I will not try to describe here, but let's just say that it is more of a "deconstructed" fish taco that does not resemble a regular fish taco at all) were excellent. Had the lamb and the snapper - both fantastic. Ended with the doughnuts for dessert (again won't try to describe exactly what this is here, but very good way to end the meal). And of course, it is hard to beat the views. I was dismayed at how stark the room is.No pictures on the walls,warehouse-like.Wasn't the old George's a lot prettier?I think the ambiance needs to be ramped up a bit to meet the food,and the prices!The view, of course, never changes.

We did not order an appetizer, but we each had dessert which was just OK -- nothing special. This is the first time we have eaten at the California Modern. It was excellent. The sticky buns were to die for! They were so good that we ordered another to share for dessert. The omelette was beautiful with crab and peas with the tendrils and leaves decorating it as well as delicious. I haven't tasted oysters that compare to these since the Post Ranch Inn 15 years ago. Perfectly grilled sea bass with an original array of tasty vegetables. Cheeses no one else offers. A 1999 Savennieres from the Loire Valley that would be a rare gem in a fine Parisian restaurant. No pretension, no excess, just balanced perfection in each dish. They bought us a round of drinks even though we only had to wait 15 minutes - an idea of how great the service is.
The bread basket and salts were outstanding and were refilled without asking. The bread is worth the carbs and is served warm.
Our appetizers were good. The red salad was very good. However, the entrees were the star of the show. I had their tenderloin. The cut was one of the best I have had and the sauce was outstanding. The lamb dish was interesting and very tender as well. Service was kind and attentive. It is a restaurant not to be missed.
