A word from Georges Bistro
Monique and Georges owned Chez Georges restaurant in Kirkwood and Westheimer for 13 years. They opened Bistro Provence in 1998, and in 2002 they turned it over to their son Jean-Philippe and his wife Genevieve. Afterwards, they opened 7 more restaurants including Bistro Don Camillo, Café la Brocante, and Bistro des Arts.

Chef Georges first opened Chez Georges at this location in 2005. After a short break from the business, he decided to return and reopen as Georges Bistro and feature very traditional cuisine from the French countryside. His menu options include escargot, pâtés, foie gras médallions, andouillette, quenelle, magret de canard, rabbit stew, baba au rhum, and crèpes suzette.

  • "Wonderful food and service. The owner's grand daughter had an excellent knowledge of the food and wines to accompany. The restaurant is in an old house that has been beautifully redone with charm and grace. The only problem, as with almost all lower Westheimer restaurants, is a lack adequate of on site parking so a valet is necessary if you drive there but he was very careful and no speed demon. Looking forward to going for supper again."

  • "Pretty, romantic, intimate, and warm. Every seat is a window seat! The dining room is flooded with natural light until the sun goes down, then it's softly and warmly lit. All the wood just glows. Victoria, the granddaughter of the owners, provided the service, and she was wonderful, helping guide us to excellent choices. Duck and pork rillette and French onion soup were both delicious. Red snapper with fennel was light and complex and memorable. A poached organic peach with cream cake made a perfect finish. We'll be back, and I've already recommended Georges to friends!"

The ambience was very European, especially in regard to the setting and the professional manner in which it was served. The menu selection was difficult only because it offer so many good choices.   • "My wife and I went to George's for Fathers Day. This was our first visit and was an excellent choice. The menu was set but was outstanding! I had the beef loin in peppercorn sauce and my wife had fish cooked in parchment. Every aspect of this visit was outstanding and then came dessert! To die for ! Sherbet ,cream and a raspberry sauce . Can't wait go back and check out the full menu!"

  • "The Saumon Marine, Moules Farcies Setoise, Magret de Canard AUx Confit d'Orange were all delicious and hearty examples of classic French dishes. The portions were more than generous. The matron of the house chose the wine for us and did an outstanding job. Rene our server was charming. The creme brulee au miel et lavande was outstanding Overall, the cuisine is classic french fare that really hits the bullseye on the savory richness of French cuisine without going overboard in an orgy of flavors which is not uncommon at more modern french bistro's."

  • "The foie gras was the best I ever had. A nice thick piece, it was cooked perfectly. My husband's salad tasted so fresh, like just-picked from the garden. My cup of bouillabaisse and my husband's cassoulet were a bit different than what we expected, but very delicious nonetheless. Specifically the bouillabaisse was more like a bisque than than full of seafood and shellfish, but the broth was flavorful. The cassoulet had a cured duck, which made it saltier than we would like, but again, tasted wonderful."

It was a winning selection as our guests were truly impressed as were we. If you are interested in a great food experience as well as a restaurant where you do not have to scream at each other to be heard this is it.!!! "

  • "This was a true gem of a find near downtown Houston. In a city known for big steaks, who would have guessed your could find classic and authentic French fare prepared with excellence? Using the Michelin rating system, I would give them the highest rating of 3 stars (i.e., worth a special trip). I indeed made an extra trip to Houston, in large measure just to eat at Georges again! When was the last time you saw quenelles on a menu (due to the degree of difficulty in preparing)? Georges were excellent, as was the pistachio encrusted rack of lamb. The wine list is also rather vast for the size of restaurant. Do yourself a favor and put this establishment at the top of your list."

  • "If you enjoy old style, rich French cuisine, this is the place for you. GREAT orange souffle for dessert! Rolls were heavy and chewy - please consider using a good baguette! Also, portions are very, very large - there was no way I could finish my duck breast. There weren't enough servers the night we were there, so it was a bit slow and off. However, owner was quick to keep our wine glasses filled. LOVE the ambience!"

  • "Georges Bistro has great French country food - primarily Provence/Lyonnais, a nice French country atmosphere and good service. The wine list has a good selection of French wines. The biggest problem here is parking. There is very little and valet parking is required. Unfortunately, an otherwise nice dinner was ruined by an incompetent valet parker. He parked our recently cleaned car across the street by a puddle that was hit by every car going by on Westheimer and when he brought our car after dinner, it looked like it had not been cleaned in months. He just shrugged his shoulders like - "that's life" and offered no real apology or car wash offer. The valet needs to avoid situations where customer's cars are trashed. "

  • "We had a wonderful lunch at Georges Bistro within a few days after they opened. Georges and his wife Monique were incredibly hospitable and friendly. We loved every dish we tried. We had the Duck Rillette, Onion Soup, Escargot, Duck Breast in Orange Sauce and Duck Leg Cassoulet. The Cassoulet really stood out. Desserts were wonderful as well. They have a small but very good wine list. The restaurant is in a nice little house with a rustic French feel. Seating is comfortable and the service terrific. We look forward to returning many more times."
