Gentleman Farmer was an awesome experience. The food was incredible and the decor was an added bonus for my boyfriends surprise dinner. It's a very intimate space but very unique with the pewter colored plaster walls and the ceiling of reclaimed wood. I hosted a party of 10 for my bf birthday party, I wanted a comfortable cozy environment like a dinner party. Gentleman farmer was able to give me just that. So as you enter you are greeted with lovely aroma of savory food. The warm pate and brie was everything!!

Must go!! Went with my boyfriend for our anniversary and it was perfect. The food is incredible and the ambiance is romantic and relaxing. Highly recommend the scallops and codfish; although, I'm sure the whole menu is outstanding. The BYOB policy on Sunday is an added bonus.

Didn't justify the $120 pre tip total for two non drinkers. This attractive, well intentioned menu does not pan out in the subtlety department. The bison tartar was overwhelmed by its sauce as was the duck breast. The not super flavorful beef medallions were rescued by their foi gras topping. The onion soup and creme brûlée were quite good as was the bread. Not good enough for a second try.

Yes, the place is really small. Yes, you share space with the diners next to you. But my partner and I felt that this only added to the charm of this delightful hole in the wall restaurant. It reminded me of France - not Paris, but a charming neighborhood bistro on Reins. Fois Gras Torchon, Beat Salad, Venison and Cod were all cooked to perfection and the service is excellent. We finished our dinner with Creme Brûlée and Chocolate Mousse. Unpretentious and classic. The wines by the glass were limited, but they fit the food and the server was very knowledgeable. We look forward to visiting on our next trip to Nee York.

This french bistro with an inventive menu, is cozy/tight with benches and catering chairs as it's austere seating options. The staff is friendly and accommodating. The service was leisurely. (Not a good place to go if you're in a hurry.) All our dishes (scallops/fois gras, beet salad, cod, rack of lamb, and mushroom ravioli) were tasty and beautifully plated. Nice wine and beer list, no cocktails or hard liquor. The tab came in at a nice price for the neighborhood too.

We really had a great dinner here. The place is tiny and we almost walked right past it, but it is very unique in how small it is. The service was great and the food was fantastic. I saw another review where they said that the food was terrible - that must have been a really off night because ours was one of the better meals I have eaten for a while and we eat out a lot.

Took a friend for his birthday. The place is small, when we first were seated, I worried that we would feel squished. That didn't happen at all, once seated, the small size of the restaurant was completely forgotten. And, we loved that we could hear each other without shouting. The food was good bistro French. The snails are fabulous. I had the lamb, which was delicious, my friend had the tournedos Rossini, yum. They heard me wishing him a happy birthday and comped us dessert, which was a nice and unexpected touch. Wine list prices are on the high side, but overall, I highly recommend Gentleman Farmer. I will definitely be returning.

Cozy place but the food is not good. My friend's salad was drenched in oil. The sauce on my Ostrich steak was a salty brine and the asparagus had a pretty presentation but too salty to eat.

On the fabled street, once the home of Russian shtetl immigrants and outdoor markets, this tiny, dark French bistro has a limited menu, no daily specials, but each dish with a singularl taste. Curried escargots need a minute of cooling down, the cumin-based sauce is great for fresh bread-dipping) Tuna Tartare hardly needs the sauce . Duck Confit is tender, mushroom ravioli shows the Gallic origins in Italy. Wine by the glass is poured from the bottle (and quite substantial). Atmosphere is subdued, our waiter was talkative, knowledgeable. We went for a birthday dinner, and without fanfare were given a glass of Champagne, and Creme Brulee on the house. Excellent value all around.

My husband and I are true foodies and although we live in Manhattan, we travel back to countries based on how amazing some of the dining has been. In NYC, Per Se is our favorite and this is truly right up there and has become our second love…especially when you want your mouth to dance with flavor…unique dishes with variable game like bison tartar & ostrich steak. It is right up there with Le Bernadin, Daniel & Per Se! Our host, waiter & sommelier, Daniel (which was all the same person since there are not more than 10 small tables) was exceptional and gave every table his undivided attention. A definite great find through Open Table. TK u!! We're looking forward to our next visit there. C u in a few weeks. :)), Dr. Jacquie & Goody

FOOD: just OK SERVICE: Nice, but slooow probably because of the shortage of the cooks in the kitchen and waiting staff. AMBIANCE: most uncomfortable because of the: a) AC unit blowing the cold air strait on patrons no matter where you are sitting: b) it's dark and gloomy: c) tables are so close together you practically sit at the communal table. VALUE: not worth for the quality of experience as a whole.

A small restaurant located on a quiet block on the Lower East Side. Delicious French food with a Middle-Eastern twist. I enjoyed my rack of lamb greatly. My dining partner's Ostrich Steak was not as impressive. Curried snails were good and in general the appetizers like Bison Tartare excelled. Service was efficient and friendly. It's a bit tight though so expect a cozy dining experience.

I took a friend here for their birthday and we had a lovely time. It is a tiny restaurant with only a few tables and one server. We shared a bottle of wine, the cheapest on the menu being $42. We had the curried snails for an appetizer. The texture was great and we enjoyed the seasoning. For entres, we shared the braised rabbit and the ostrich steak. The ostrich was cooked perfectly and had a good flavor on it. The rabbit could have used a bit more seasoning, but the tenderness was great and the sauce it was with gave it the flavor that it was missing. Service was a bit slow as far as food coming out, but she was very friendly. We enjoyed the experience and would certainly come back.

Loved this quaint little French restaurant. Every single thing I tried was full of flavor and so rich. We had the salmon to start, which with the citrus sauce and rich goat cheese foam, it was truly a delight. The Quail was absolutely delightful and super tender. The Ostrich was by far my favorite and I did not expect it to be so tender, delicious, and tasty. Great place to try!

I was looking for a NY restaurant that allowed corkage and found this diamond in the rough. There is limited, tight seating, but that didn't stop us from having a fun, two hour meal. Dress is comfortable/casual. The decor is non-existent.it's all about the food.period.the food, overall, was good to excellent.the entrees were of fair size/portion. The pheasant pate was excellent.escargot were good, but the lobster tail app. did not have semblance of fresh lobster. Entrees, e.g. Quail or Tournedos, we're excellent, and the service was attentive and genuine. This is a good spot to bring an old rhone or Bordeaux and enjoy it appropriately. Just don't forget to offer some to your server.though you are in NY, it doesn't mean you are a troglodyte
