Diner Reviews
  • "Food was great. Restaurant was empty. Only one other table the whole time we were there. Sunday night we expected the place to be very busy. We hope the restaurant isn't in trouble."

  • "Absolutely a great experience. We were greeted by very friendly staff which were extremely attentive throughout our dinner. The food was excellent. This might be the best Italian restaurant in the Princeton area. The prices are a bit high but the food is worth it. And when you factor in its a BYOB you get a great dinner at a reasonable cost. We will definitely be going back."

  • "While visiting our nephew at Princeton, we had dinner at Gennaro's. The meal and service were exceptional. Although the restaurant was full, our party of four felt cozy which added to our experience. Would definitely recommend Gennaro's."

  • "I have been to Gennaro's on several occasions - date night, family night and girl's night out - and have never been disappointed. Great meal for the value - nice atmosphere. Very friendly environment - service has always been excellent."

  • "It's always a pleasure to dine here and the food is great. Not many restuarants have such attentive and hospitable service by the owner. A bit noisy at times but not an overwhelming problem."

  • "Superb. We've read many positive reviews about Gennaro's but never had a chance to stop in - finally made it there and it exceeded expectations. You would not think that an unassuming Italian restaurant located in a mini-mall off Route 206 could go toe-to-toe with some of the finest Manhattan Italian restaurants, but they really do that and more. The rock shrimp pasta was infused with flavor, as was the Chicken Francaise, and the service was warm, fast and attentive. They clearly care deeply about quality and taste, which is really all you can ask for in a restaurant. Foodies will no doubt discover this restaurant soon if not already."

  • "What a pleasant surprise. The menu had a nice variety and the food was delicious, service was outstanding, relaxing ambiance, pretty decor, and I will definitely go back soon. Highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "We live close to Gennaro's and go there frequently. It seems every time we go we see friends eating there and for good reason. The food is excellent and the service couldn't be more friendly and competent. We love that it's a BYO. We haven't used them for catering personally, but have been to events that they have catered and they do a great job at that too."

  • "One of the nicer but unpretentious Italian restaurants in Princeton. Service is friendly, efficient and helpful. Try their signature salad. I had the special of the day dish, very fresh cod in a nice sauce over pasta. I asked the server to make the dish spicy and it was delicious!"

  • "We have been going to Gennaro's for many years, and the quality of the food remains much better than the average Naples-based cuisine that's prevalent. The sauces are flavorful, the wait staff is accommodating (albeit a bit slow at times), and the owner is very congenial. They still make a top-notch veal chop, their bolognese sauce is top-notch, and the pasta was perfectly cooked. There are a number of items that need to be re-worked, modernized, and refreshed, including their salads and appetizers - they're not bad, they're just not interesting. It's a BYOB, which is a wonderful thing."

  • "Portions were small and my wife's veal special was tough and tasteless. While I was waiting for my wife while leaving my waitress and the man I assumed was the owner came over to me and asked if I had a reservation ??? Not very observant."

  • "I was hesitant to try once I saw it was in a little strip mall. I pictured a pizza place with a dining section. I was wrong! Food was excellent. Staff was friendly and welcoming. Servers, both of them were awesome!! Recommended dishes to go with the wine we brought with us. Sat in back section, just 2 of us, so it was quieter and so relaxing. Front section was a bit louder bit I instantly thought it would be great to come back with a group. We will be back!!! I can't believe we hadn't been there before! Appetizers, entree and dessert.... All excellent!"

  • "My wife and I tried Gennaro's for the first time last Saturday night. We chose this as our Valentines dimmer since we never eat out on February 14th for obvious reason. We were seated in a rear section of the restaurants (the thirties) and it was cozy, comfortable and quiet. The service was excellent (Thanks Gina) and the owner made the rounds and made us feel very welcome. The food was outstanding. I had the scallops over a nice risotto which was flavorful and not overly creamy. It was delicious! My wife had the veal and eggplant dish which she devoured. The desserts were very good too - creme brulee was awesome. We had a nice leisurely dinner that made for a wonderful Valentines Day celebration."

  • "Stopped by one night as we've heard a lot of good things about the place. The food is rustic Italian and the portions size is generous. I felt that some of the food lacked a bit of flavor compared to other items on the same plate. The only major issue I had is the level of noise. It reall is difficult to hear those tat your table sometimes, as the conversations around you really do reverberate off the walls. I wasnt expecting 'quiet', but I really dont like screaming to those at my table. We'll likely try it again, as the food was really good and its a BYO."

  • "Went with my son and we both enjoyed the food. Really good stuff! The service was fast and friendly. I rate the overall experience very good and as an added feature, there was live music."

  • "I won't go into detail on the entree that I had ...Jumbo Shrimp, Scallops and Zucchini Squash cubes..which I thought I would pick out because they are a veggie... : ) over risotto, but I will tell you this...it was one of the top five entrees I have ever eaten (48 years old). EVER. It was a special and so good, I was taking the smallest amounts on my fork to make it last longer. The service was very friendly and we felt at home from the moment we were seated. Everyone loved their entrees as well and the apps were fantastic. The prices run from $26-$36 on the menu when we went, but worth every penny, considering what you get elsewhere for only slightly less. Don't underestimate this gem of a restaurant."

  • "We tried this restaurant for the first time Saturday night. We were greeted pleasantly as if they were happy we were there and seated promptly. We were a little late due to the weather and told them we had to be at the theater at a certain time. They made sure we were served in time to get there. The food was absolutely delicous. There were 5 of us and everyone loved their dish! The salad were also a highlight and could be split. The servers were super nice and made this visit a pleasure. We did not have time for dessert, but will definitely be back here again."

  • "After a pleasant Sunday afternoon out, we stopped in at Gennaro's for an early dinner. We had heard of the restaurant from a friend who had given it high marks. We were not disappointed. I led off with the Frito Misto which was an excellent combination of shrimp and calamari. Not overly breaded and cooked to perfection. I then had the special Strip Steak which you could cut with a fork and the accompanying side of brocoli rob was oustanding. My wife had the bolognese and the noodles were light and cooked to just right. The sauce (gravy?) was delicious as well. Our server was terrific. An unexpected Sunday night delight!!"

  • "We went to this restaurant a couple of years ago.the food was different then. The food was fair, and the service was very good."

  • "I'm a foodie, and an excellent cook. Yet dining at Gennaro's is humbling. Chef Ben and his staff just do amazing things to ingredients, presenting dish after dish of food that surpasses not only expectations but memory. Every return to Gennaro's we're reminded again of why it's always so satisfying. There's nothing worse than getting your hopes up for a great meal, only to find the food lackluster and disappointing. Our experience here is the opposite: we're amazed at how good food can taste when done right. Whether it's a simple spinach salad, the Greens Gennaro, for merely the house baked bread served piping hot (great with the rosemary and pepper infused olive oil!), your taste buds begin the evening dancing. Go Eat Enjoy!"

  • "Food was great. Waitress very helpful. Service got off to a slow start, but waitress made up for it once we got service. Liked the byob. Waitress offered items/variations not on menu"

  • "BYOB is a big advantage, nice interior, friendly service but so-so food. Overpriced for the quality of food they got."

  • "Only 1 server that night. We were ignored for almost 15 minutes before we even got bread and water. Service improved after that."
