Diner Reviews
  • "The chef really entertains with all the flames and food throwing. This restaurant is not for the faint of heart, or small of stomach."

  • "I love the food here but the price is a little high to take family to. I would eat here more often if the prices were not soo high."

  • "Much better food and experience than I had at Benihana a few weeks ago - more food, better tasting, better atmosphere and service. Really great evening!"

  • "We celebrated the kids' birthdays after a choir concert, but the staff was very accommodating bringing out the drum and song even near close. We were fortunate to have a wonderful couple next to us, so it was a great deal of fun. Generally is. We love Genji, and it's really the kids' usual first choice for special occasions like birthdays, good report cards, etc. Our server was absolutely fantastic, responsive and cheerful, which is an achievement when on the after-8 dinner shift. :) It's not inexpensive, of course, but for what they provide, I think it's a bargain! Lunch for the week is provided! The chef seemed new-ish as far as knife skills and the like, but it was still a fun show. And the food was delicious!"

  • "We've been to a lot of Japanese steakhouses and this was one of the best. Great meal, only downfall was I wished fried rice was included with the meal. It's a must have! Nice servings, plenty left to take home and it reheats nicely. Worth the time and money!!! Wish they had a larger sushi menu."

  • "Excellent service - great chef and a lot of fun celebrating my son's 11th birthday! Loved that the chef was interactive and had a great sense of humor. We were seated on-time and not rushed throughout our experience. Food was fresh and delicious. One of the nicest Japanese Steakhouses I've been to in the Central Ohio area."

  • "It was our first time at genji's and it was great! Our waitress was awesome at keeping our drinks full and taking dirty plates away. Our cook was awesome. So entertaining and great food! Great experience! Totally recommend!"

  • "My son wanted to go to Genji for his bday dinner. There were 6 of us (4 kids 11 and under) and we all enjoyed our meal. Portions are huge so you leave with enough for lunch the next day. We especially liked the inexpensive bday experience they offered. The photo was terrific and will provide a nice keepsake to remember this birthday."

  • "When I walked up the hostess desk to check in, it took 10 minutes for anyone to come over to the desk. There were bar tenders making drinks and looked over on several occassions. No one was called to assist."

  • "Never had bad experience ever at genji. Always great"

  • "I've always loved eating here. When I recommend it to friends I sometimes hear about how they don't like the seating structure. It had never bothered me before my most recent visit. I was seated next to an overweight redneck who smelled of stale cigarettes and some other, less identifiable odors. I couldn't enjoy my food the way I normally do. I know it's not Gengi's fault, but I'm not sure when/if I'll return. Maybe I can get it "to-go" so I can eat the food around people who regularly bathe."

  • "My family recently dined at Genji's. Even though we have been to the establishment many times, it never ceases to amaze me how awesome the food is and how friendly the staff is. They are a great place to take your children, very family friendly. They always do a wonderful job."

  • "the food was ok but prefer the japenese steakhouse located in the short north. The bartender was excellent. disappointed with no choice of dessert after the meal."

  • "Food is always remarkable here. Filet just melts in your mouth. The yum yum sauce is one of my favorites. Always entertaining too."

  • "Usually going to one of these steakhouses you will either get a decent entertainer chef OR a decent cooking chef. My wife and I enjoy the Japanese steakhouses quite often and I have been to a few differnt ones with work. This time was different. Our chef was AWESOME at both entertaining and preparing the food. He was very entertaining. He did a lot of the usual tricks and things you see every time, but he usually had a twist to add. He did quite a few thing that I've never seen before. He was very engaging to all of the people at the table. He made the experience very fun. BUT THEN. When he served the food...... It was awesome. He asked for feedback and everyone at the table gave postive responses."

  • "bad experience overall... bartenders were very rude, chief was not keeping the guest entertained."

  • "Food was good, but the soup has devolved to chicken broth with 3 mushrooms. The seating sucked as my family sat around the table but I was on a "sliver" of table. Not a lot of room for food. We did have 11, 8 and 7 year old girls with us, who loved the food. So overall, it was worth the trip and our server was great."

  • "This was not our first time going to Genji, so that right there should say something. The food is great, the cooks are always funny and energetic, and the ambiance is great. You won't leave hungry and you'll have a great time."

  • "Took my girlfriend here for Valentine's Day, and we had a great time. The food was amazing and the prices were well worth the quality of food. We did have to wait an extra 45min even with our reservation, but it was a particularly busy day because of the holiday. Nonetheless it was a great restaurant and I would recommend it to anyone."

  • "Had dinner here on Valentine's Day. Prices were lower than other similar restaurants and the portions they give you are even larger! The server was great, the cook was amazing and very entertaining. He even made lava come out of the onion volcano! He had the whole table laughing and engaged. The fried rice was phenomenal. Filet had a great flavor. And the shrimp was amazing! Very down to earth, casual environment. I felt vet comfortable there and they treated you like family as if you'd been there a million times before. The place was packed! Not sure if it was the holiday or if this is usual but definitely make reservations."

  • "For a fun night with flames, food and a bit of entertainment this place is fun for all. Typical Japanese steak house but that is why we chose this place. The yum yum sauce was the other draw."

  • "Genji is much like any Japanese steakhouse. The food was delicious, although the portion of veggies and sprouts was smaller than most other places while being a bit more expensive as well. We went as a family and had a great time. The kids loved it and even tried more things than usual. The decor is very nice; it looks as though you are sitting outside a Japanese cottage. Overall we had a great time and would definitely go back."

  • "Took our son to Genji for his birthday dinner. He didn't know what to expect and wasn't too sure of our choice, but he ended up loving it. The chef was great and entertaining, which says a lot considering the birthday boy was a teenager who usually wants to bury his face in an iPod."

  • "We go to Genji every year for my birthday and have a great time. This was our first time at the Sawmill location and we loved it. The bar was bigger and nicer and it was much cleaner than the Brice location. The food, chef and staff were great. We will definitely go back to this Genji in the future."

  • "The service was great! Food was excellent! Our chef must have been new as he didn't do all the ooohhs and aaahhs with the food preparations. All in all a very nice evening out!!"

  • "Excellent service and food. I love the entertaining atmosphere, circus like effects and noise. Kids usually get bored while only sitting and eating in "normal" restaurants, never in Genji!"

  • "Food is great. Chef was very entertaining. Seemed like waitress was overworked. There were large lags in between refills on beverages. Overall a pleasant experience."

  • "I've been here many times... I have tried other Japanese Steakhouses, but I always come back to this one. The food is similar to the others, but the Yum-Yum sauce beats any other sauce hands down! We went for New Year's eve last night with a party of 6. We were seated right at our reservation time, had great service, the chef was so funny and entertaining, and of course the food was delicious. We will be back!"

  • "Excellent meal, fantastic and very entertaining chef. We did have about a 20 minute wait with a reservation, but it was a Friday night, so it was not surprising. They accommodated our seafood allergy, and helped us celebrate 3 birthdays. everything was delicious and we look forward to returning again."

  • "We had never eaten at Genji before. The service was excellent and of course the chef put on a good show and made us laugh. The food was excellent as well. The portions were great. We all had enough left over for lunch the next day. I especially liked the main dish, which for me was shrimp. I felt the sauces were a little better at another Japanese steak house but were still good. I would definitely recommend Genji and will go again sometime."

  • "Dinner AND a show all together. The chefs who cook your food (right in front of you) are very entertaining - the food is cooked very well and the service is top notch. Good place to take the family. A bit on the expensive side (you will probably spend $35/person including tip) but worth it for special occasions!"
