Diner Reviews
  • "As usual, we made reservations for a Saturday night, asking for a quiet table in the corner. And as usual, we were granted our request. We enjoyed a drink at the bar prior to being seated. The service is always first class and most employee have been at the restaurant for years. The familiarity is warming - they make you feel extremely welcome. I am ashamed to say I usually have the same entree (Steak Au Poivre). It is always prepared perfectly. My wife loves to try new dishes and chose the Salmon. All she could say was WOW!! And, we broke from the norm and indulged with deserts that should be outlawed as habit forming!! Simply awesome!! The dinner was perfect, as it is every time at General Warren. That's why it's our favorite! "

  • "We eat at General Warren for time to time. We were looking for a quiet spot this particular evening, but were seated next to fairly large group. When we requested another location they quickly found a great location with a lovely view. The dinner was excellent as always."

  • "My husband and I are from NYC, actors working at People's Light and Theatre, right down the hill from the General Warren Inne, and after the performances, keep finding ourselves stranded and hungry with nowhere good to go. Happily, my mother was visiting and stayed at the Inne and when we brought her back after the performance at 9:45, the restaurant and bar were not only open, cozy and welcoming, but the kitchen was still serving and we had a remarkable meal, waited on by a lovely pro of a waitress. The best time we've had in Malvern."

  • "Soup too salty. Food was not outstanding but I've always liked this restaurant and would go to it again."

  • "This was a great birthday surprise for my friends. They tabbed about the ambiance, food and service. It's a place they would normally drive by but now it's a great place for date night."

  • "Everything from the complimentary valet parking. We went early. I'm sure The General Warren books up quickly at 'normal' dinner hours. 5:00 was no problem. The maître d' was very respectful and easygoing at the same time. The waiter was knowledgeable and clear in his presentation of specials and suggestions for preparation. The champagne and Zinfandel were very tasty. My husband loved his fish soup. Salads were fresh and nicely presented and very good. The entrees, to summarize: fish and filet, with asparagus, etcetera were wonderful! I rarely eat my entire dinner but did here and the portions were perfect! Y only regret is that we couldn't try the ultra -delicious-looking desserts, especially the unusual sorbet."

  • "We had tried this restaurant when visiting the area in the past. We sought it out again and we were very happy that we did. My salmon was excellent as was the steak. The prix fixed menu idea is great"

  • "Warm white wine. Lamp chops which we have all the time were so tough you could not cut to separate them.Very bad dinner experience having brought our guests for a evening out. WE will have to think twice before returning. Please pass this on to the restaurant,I think they should know."

  • "the General Warren Inne is a great spot for your special occasion. My wife and I were celebrating our first wedding anniversary, and we couldn't have asked for anything more. The food was great, the service was spot on, and the staff were not only friendly, but VERY knowledgeable. If you can afford it, we suggest getting a "get away" package that includes your meal (3 course) and a night in one of their suites. It was well worth the money. Also - their wine list had something for everyone -- from good, cheap wine to good, expensive wine. Delicious!"

  • "We had a lovely dinner and the server was terrific in the midst of a rather chaotic Saturday night. Seemed like the Western Suburbanites all wanted to get out for dinner after months of cabin fever! We had an 8:15 reservation but still had to wait at the bar for 15 minutes or so at that hour. The meal was delicious and spring menu creative while not over the top in trying to be esoterically creative. Two negative points: they were out of the one special after I ordered it; no recognition of the occasion although I did note in Open Table comments that it was my birthday. Just sensitive since my husband was out of town for the actual day and my kids are far away...just feeling sorry for myself, but a candle would have been nice."

  • "Great hidden location and style of restaurant - Service was good. But the food missed the mark - prime rib dip sandwich was not quality meat and rather bland. Shame really, could be a great place for business lunches."

  • "Went to dinner with three others and had an exceptionally long wait for food. The lobster arancini were just ok and the steak was a bit tough. One person got the short ribs and they were the winners at our table. The waitress gave us dessert on the house and said the chef was on his own that was why the kitchen was so slow. Unfortunately the food wasn't worth the wait. Maybe just an off night as I have had other memorable meals there."

  • "As a long time mainline resident this was my first time to the general warren and I was not impressed. To begin, I think it was the loudest restaurant we've ever been to. I started with a vodka tonic that was served in a pint glass. I'm not complaining about quantity just found it odd for an upscale restaurant. Then we had one hour wait for apps is unacceptable. We ordered the meat & cheese plate at market price ($25) which consisted of 4 pieces of cheese, a bunch of sliced sausage, a couple of olives & 4 crackers. It was boring, bland & way over priced. Our main courses (pork chop & Denver steak) were quite tasty but lacked any artistic presentation and at these prices I would expect that. Dessert was probably the best."

  • "My wife and I have been dining at the General Warren for 30 years. It remains our favorite restaurant. The food is always excellent, and the charm of the old Inn only adds to the dining experience."

  • "Outstanding menu, great food, great service, great ambience. Have been here many, many times and will continue to do so because of the consistancy the Inn offers with each visit. Highly recommend especially for a special occcasion."

  • "This restaurant is a very quaint and romantic place to dine. The food is top notch and the service is excellent. Perfect place for any occasion!"

  • "Entrees and service were very good. Overall, it was very busy for Valentine's day. The bar was very crowded. We will try again and would expect slightly better results based on other reviews. We had later reservations, however we asked on arrival and were able to seat us a little earlier. On our next visit we'll request a table near one of the fire places. We parked in the first driveway coming from old lincoln highway and walked up a very slippery walkway. That was our first visit, and we were unaware they had valet parking. The back walkway due to recent snow and ince storms is not recommended, we almost fell several times. Other than that, very nice place, very good food and worth a second visit to try when less busy."

  • "The entire evening was a delight. Top notch execution from the host, wait, bar and kitchen teams. Always feels like a special occasion when we dine at General Warren Inne. Personally went for the Dover Sole presented and served table side, while my business associates went with choice cuts of beef. Great dinner finished with a tawny port and just what the doctor ordered - a warm meal, in a warm and inviting restaurant on a cold winter night!"

  • "Great service, good food, table side prep, balanced time between courses , wine list, history, and of course price, is all there. But hey, it's a great place for friends to dine, or couples to spend an anniversary. The Inn is up stairs. Recommend it."

  • "We had a very delicious dinner at General Warren. The denver steak was very good and the couscous was delicious. The brownie dessert was also very good. The ambience of the restaurant is especially nice. The fireplace was on! Thanks for a great meal."

  • "Mid-week business lunch with a friend who visits the area once a month. He met me at the GWI and was impressed from the jump. Great food, service and atmosphere. He said he plans to make it "his" place when he's in town each month to meet with clients. And why wouldn't he? On our recent visit we enjoyed a hearty seafood chowder to knock the cold off, followed by the special mahi mahi wrapped and baked in prosciutto. Delish. If you haven't been you need to go, if you haven't been in a while, you definitely need to go back!"

  • "Dinner for 11, including a baby & a 4 & 7 year old. Food was great - every one enjoyed their entree. Little boys behaved & didn't get in anyone's way at the restaurant. We had a little noisy song thing to commemorate the event & the other diners clapped & cheered. Management did a lot to let us have a special time."

  • "My lamb chop was very good; my dining partners weren't bowled over with their choices. I think they were expecting a little better given the price levels. Server was very experienced but on the cool side. Maybe this is a refreshing change from overly gushy service but the personal connection that one expects didn't really happen. But we enjoyed ourselves in the ambience of the inn's dining room with the fireplace going and live music coming in from a room in another part of the building."

  • "We went for an intimate birthday celebration. We had a lovely evening enhanced by the delicious food and ambiance. The table side Caesar Salad was the best I've ever had. General Warren Inn is a neighborhood gem which I anticipate enjoying in the summer to experience the outside environs."
