Diner Reviews
  • "Came here for restaurant week with the bf. We had a 8:30pm reservation, got to there a few minutes early. We were not seated right away but as we were waiting we notice people coming in after us and getting seated before us! It could have been cause it was a busy night or something but it so happened that the guy forgot about us! We had to remind him that we were in fact still here!! Other then that little incident the place has a very romantic setting and it is a perfect place to bring a date. The food is one point and the waiter was very nice and patient."

  • "I was dining with my bf my birthday, would def recommend. After combing through myriad pages to find a gem of a restaurant participating in RW Summer 14 I am so happy we ended up at General Assembly. I was originally hopefully because of their large RW menu and their exciting cocktail list. It was a fun, vibrant scene already at 7:30pm-- we arrived 15 minutes early and were seated promptly. Other reviews that said it felt cramped--the tables are tight, but not obnoxiously so, it doesn't impede on the experience. The bread is to die for. The cocktails are pricey but quality; props to the CA Chardonnay, cleverly disguised mango-infused vodka, refreshing & inventive. Food was well prepared, timely and tasty. Desserts and espressos too."

  • "The restaurant itself is rather beautiful. There are jars of dried herbs and other bottled "stuff" used as decoration and it's quite lovely. Our waiter was wonderful. I just wish the food was too. While nothing was bad nothing was amazingly great! Nothing left us wanted more of it. Sorry but true. Yes we dined on a restaurant week menu the food should still have packed more punch. Disappointing to say the least. Would go back to the bar area for a quick drink - but nothing more."

  • "great food and atmosphere. Portions were large and desserts were great!"

  • "went during restaurant week and while all the food was tasty, there was a sense of assembly line cooking and service. scallop gnocchi had great flavor but no scallops, roasted beets with a tangy yogurt were lovely but felt like they'd been sitting chilled on the plate for the whole evening. I was steered without subtlety away from a pasta and lamb meatball offering, I'm not sure any waiter in a fine dining restaurant has ever been more blatant that they would rather not serve me a specific dish so we both had a well charred and seasoned steak frites. Desert came in a paper cup and dripped all over the table. Service disappeared after the delivery of our entrees. Didn't feel special after-all, even for the reduced price of $50 plus wine."

  • "I was saddened to hear that the Hurricane Club closed down and hopeful/excited to try General Assembly. From reading several reviews i was expecting an "upgrade to both the menu and the decor" of its predecessor. Unfortunately, this new restaurant did not meet my expectations. They moved things around and the ambiance is just different. Very "vanilla" as compared to the Hurricane Club, which in my opinion had a lot of character. This venue would be ideal for a business lunch but not necessarily a cozy dinner date. Had some excellent wine and the apple ginger sorbet was probably the best thing that I had that night."

  • "New additon to PAS. Good food, wine and service. Beautiful rooms, tables spaced for comfort. App spreads, home made Ricotta outstanding, Branzino prepared perfectly. Dessert, OMG order the brownie ice cream. Can't wait to go back and try more."

  • "We went to this place and it was amazing. Without any other word to describe it it was just amazing. I love every minute of my time there. My woman loved it from beginning to end as well. From the bar to when we got our check."

  • "I went here for a work lunch during restaruant week. Food was really good, and definitely a good deal. It was a late lunch, and maybe that's why it was a bit too quiet. Service was good, but not outstanding. Will go back for dinner or regular lunch hours to try it again, since maybe going "off hours" affected my experience."

  • "The menu was boring ( we didn't eat the Restaurant Week menu as we couldn't find anything interesting), and the steaks were both overcooked. Black and Blue was rare ( at best) and Medium Rare was medium- well cooked. Got extra dessert when we pointed this ( on their asking) but they weren't so good either will be sticking to Quality Meats - this has nothing going for it except more space and light."

  • "nice selection for RW. First, they bring these amazing little round rolls. slightly salted, hot & delicious! started with the soft shell crabs (amazing), had streak frites for dinner. Perfect sized portion, although not as medium rare as I'd like. finished with 2 of their 4 napoleans which were also delicious. Service was terrific although bordering on overbearing. Also, we felt extremely rushed even though there were many empty tables. My friend wasn't even halfway done with her app when they brought dinner. I had no choice but to take mine because i didn't want it sitting on the side getting cold. She had the fish and was less than thrilled. we were only given choices of 6:00 or 7:00, but there were plenty of tables in between."

  • "Great food but service is rushed and plates are removed from the table without asking. Second course fired too quickly. They did not need our table as we were there at 6 pm."

  • "Thoroughly enjoyed the creative cocktails, and inspired dessert. My entree was a bit too spicy, but delicious anyway. The restaurant is a vision in itself. Gorgeous, special experience all around."

  • "I took a friend out for her birthday lunch to General Assembly during Restaurant Week. They got high marks from us. Lovely setting, great bar and wait staff...patient and accomodating, and a great selection which isn't always the case for Restaurant Week. Food was all delicious, freshly sourced and beautiful presentation start to finish. We will return!"

  • "We came in specifically for the soft shell crabs and were not disappointed, although the fried flavor somewhat dominated the tasty "green goddess" smear below. Risotto with scallops was sigh-of-pleasure-inducing but the rabbit wellington had an unpleasant texture and the pastry didn't shine. The superstar of the night was the corn creme brulee, which could have been dessert as well as a side dish, and I'd happily have devour it for both courses. Cocktails were interesting and creatively presented, wines by the glass were reasonably priced. Noise level escalated to a conversation-challenging high as the night progressed, but that's the price of popularity! It's a good choice for the north end of the Flatiron, where the options thin out."

  • "Love the sytle of this local restaurant. It's huge but they only open the front area for lunch. The food was great. Perfect for a business lunch. You have to have their signature desert!"

  • "We had a special tasting menu and champagne pairing offered for Bastille day. Food was great. The champagne pairing was such a great deal. Will definitely return if in the area."

  • "We get together every month and this time I chose General Assembly. Restaurant is beautiful. Food is excellent. Service was very good. Very noisy. Tough for a group of 6 to have a conversation across the table but super fun. Many women had the same idea. Lots of groups of women. Would definitely return. My dinner was wonderful!"

  • "The tables are set apart so that one can have a conversation and not be on top of the next group. Food was very tasty and well presented, I would definately recommend it and go back again!"

  • "Beautiful and ample space. Very good and lively bar. Very inventive drinks, try the pisco with prosecco, especially on these summer evenings. Good wine list at reasonable prices. The Uni appetizer is highly recommended as is the gazpacho. The sea bass as entree was extraordinary for its combination of flavors and textures. Scrumptious desserts, especially the chocolate toffee pudding. All in all a consistently good experience."

  • "Cavernous space, nothing special. Basic menu, BUT 2 people, 1 bottle of wine, 2 appetizers, 1 chicken dish and 1 hamburger. With tip $ 315.00 Really??"

  • "Food ok noise deafening could not have table conversation.Service could have been better Steak for a smith and wolensky chain not good at all Did not have Crown Royal Whiskey.Branzino and Sea bass expensive and pale and unappetizing when they were served. Qua;ity Italian much much better."

  • "I booked on Open table and mentioned it was a special birthday for my BFF. Asked for a special table. They gave us one in an area which was a little quieter than the big dining hall. . A great market salad with interesting micro greens. We did not want dessert, having consumed our entire entrees. The waiter brought a cup of sorbet with a candle in it for the birthday girl They actually took note from the Open Table request. We had such a nice evening there. Hope they keep up the good work."

  • "Was celebrating a friends' birthday and it was the perfect place to have brought her...We entered the restaurant and were so pleasantly surprised with the decor...The people at front door were very welcoming and brought us to a table that was in the banquette area and a bit tight for our group of 4 and offered to see if one of the booths were available and it was and was just the right spot. Our waiter and all of the table staff were the best....Food, wine and cocktails were wonderful...Thanks for a great nite!"

  • "One member of our group did have to send her food back but the staff overcompensated us with dessert and a free round and were very apologetic. Other than that the food was very good, albeit a little expensive, and I would definitely go back."
