  • "Upon entering the restaurant, Jeff, greeted us and realized I was the person who reserved a table for 3 with a small note, stating my dear friend Mimi is celebrating her birthday. He remembered the note and wished her a happy bday and when we reached our table, there was a card waiting for her at the table - nothing elaborate or cheesy, just right. They brought us something complimentary for the table and after dinner, since we ordered dessert, the kitchen added birthday wishes and a single candle. Another thoughtful touch. The food was excellent, as usual, and they update their menu often to create new dishes with the freshest, in season, ingredients. This restaurant has quickly become my top 3 favorite in Dallas. Kudos!!"

  • "Such care given to every facet of the meal: fabulous coconut based broth on the mussels, fresh peas cooked and seasoned perfectly. The squash salad with pine nuts was absolutely delicious and so simple in presentation. The wait staff was helpful and attentive and very responsive to my particular dietary needs. The wine the sommelier helped us with was superb and a good value for its quality. Even the coffee I ordered was delivered in a freshly made pressed pot for our table alone. Delicious! We will be back."

  • "We have been several times since Gemma opened late last year. It has been consistently great. The terrific wine list is fairly broad, deep and very reasonably priced. The sommelier has changed over time, but we have always gotten great, reasonably priced recommendations. The staff is well-trained, friendly and attentive, without being annoyong/hovering. The cocktails are inventive and refreshing. The food is outstanding. We have tried the entire menu, and have yet to find a poor, or even mediocre, item. The only thing we have not tried is dessert, as we are always too full by then. The decor and ambience remind us of a summer-at-the-beach place: a very welcoming, relaxing, unpretentious (unlike some customers) vibe. Go to Gemma. NOW."

  • "It is so nice to have a restaurant stay open late for those of us who work late. On top of that to be one of the best restaurants in town. Service and Food were excellent. Not a moment did we feel rushed. Other restaurants take note. When you say your open to a certain time- DO IT!!! Don't say the kitchen is closed when your suppose to still be open. Have some class like Gemma."

  • "Food is wonderful. Call in advance--it's a bit hard to get in, but certainly well worth the effort once you do get in. One of my favorites is the baby artichoke with poached egg. The oysters are really good also, they usually have a great selection of raw oysters. Service is impeccable--even when they are slammed, my experience has been that they are attentive and the GM is always buzzing around checking on customers. He is a seasoned veteran in the business and knows what he is doing. Great restaurant. I would highly recommend for Sunday night supper, a special occasion or just dinner out one night."

  • "This was our first time at Gemma and we were not disappointed! The other two in our party selected wine but I chose a wonderful house specialty cocktail---gin, strawberry, mint and cucumber. It was delicious---not sweet and very refreshing! While the bibb lettuce salad was simple and uncomplicated as was the Caesar, they were fresh and delicious. The salmon was wonderful---beautifully seasoned and crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked inside and very tasty. The steak and fries were wonderful! The blueberry crepes and ice cream added the perfect ending to the meal. Everything was fresh and with attention to details. The service was great! We will definitely go back and highly recommend this restaurant but reserve early!"

My husband had th artic char and I had the parpedelle with rabbit...a bit too salty for our tastes but the manager made amends on our bill. We will definitely return to this little "Gem!""

  • "Gemma is a Gem. This is truly one of my favorite places in Dallas, hands down! The decor, food, drinks and service are flawless! The menu is local, seasonal, fresh & creative, but most importantly every morsel is delicious! They bake their bread fresh daily. Forget the diet, it's worth the splurge. Same goes for their desserts! Service is impeccable also, with just the right amount of friendly attention to every detail. One piece of advice however, do yourself a favor and make a reservation. Gemma's not a large space and you could be in for a bit of a wait if you didn't make one. If reservations aren't your thing or you're just feeling "adventurous", if they aren't packed when you arrive, ask to eat at the bar. It's fun too!"

  • "The highlights of our meal at Gemma were the service, interior, and the fantastically prepared sweetbreads (although mustard sauce needed more bite). Our enjoyment was tempered by the over-seasoned food. The oysters, snapper broth, and steak all had copious amounts of salt. So much so that half of our mains were left uneaten. Each dish was well-executed otherwise. The management was kind to remove the steak from our ticket, but we still booked the meal as a fail."

  • "What a way to celebrate our anniversary. We were seated early and that was great. However, our waitress was not very knowledgeable regarding the menu which was a little disappointing. Unfortunately, after we ordered our food the transformer went out and only half the restautant have electricity. It started to get warm and the whole restaurant started to smell like a barbecue place coz the exhaust somehow failed too. The manager was apologizing and the waiters and waitresses were panicking. One of the waitress almost hit my husband and the guy behind with the knife that was sticking out while she was hauling the dishes out from another table. The manager didn't even offer any incentive to the guests for the inconvenience that night...sad."

  • "We dined at Gemma recently with family and the food was wonderful. Although out of their control, the a/c unit went out while we were mid-way through dinner (we had not been served our entrees yet) making for a slightly less pleasant dining experience. They staff apologized several times, but the heat and flies were too much. Sadly we had to skip desert. As we were leaving they had started seating people outside to better accommodate. With all that being said, we'd definitely give it another shot."

Observations are: water goblets too large for table and smaller hands; only 1 chardonnay @ $18 per glass very overpriced, especially for Napa; sparkling Rose was wonderful; did not offer Johnny Walker Red for highball. Veal and Char delicious entrees and Caesar salad presentation crisp and dressing not overpowering. Bread passed pre-meal perfect portion with softened butter nice contrast of texture and taste. "

  • "Wine country vibe with excellent food and service. Oysters were spectacular. Hamachi crudo looked beautiful was a little overwhelmed by the edible flowers and greens. Artic char with celery root purée was one of the best fish dishes I've had in a while. Great selection of wine and hand crafted cocktails. Love that the cheese plate is a dessert option and not a starter. Will definitely be back."
