Gemini BistroGreat spot! Please bring backGreat spot! Please bring back the Oysters Rock! They were the best in Chicago!6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMThey keep getting better . . .Jason and Ryan and the entire GB team keep getting better and better at what they do. Which is saying a lot, since they were already at the top.
The food here is just sensational -- and Jason does not rest on his laurels. He has a real passion for his calling, and you will find this reflected in the daily specials (always interesting).
If there is a nicer group of people providing service at any restaurant in the city, I'd like to know about it. They like their customers, they like each other -- and they truly work as a team.
Outside seating is great
A mark of their success is the wide range of clientele they (justifiably) enjoy. Couples, groups of girlfriends or boyfriends, old friends, neighbors-- all welcome. Check it out!6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat MusselsWe had a wonderful meal here. Got to sit outside which so far this year has been a rare moment so that may have added a bit to our experience. The drinks were excellent and actually had some heft to them.
We had a beet salad appetizer and the beets were perfectly done. The Mussels (fra diavolo) were outstanding and the portion served was adequate. All the food we had was very good (beet salad, mussels, carpaccio, calamari with shrimp) except.....the scallops. Not that they weren't delicious but there were only three of them on the plate at 18 bucks. I think that is a bit of a rip off.
Other than that one dish (so just don't order it when you go) it was excellent. Oh and the desserts were really good. Highly recommend the Cagney's Sundae.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent atmosphere thatExcellent atmosphere that was
conversation friendly. The menu offered
ample choices and we all enjoyed the
mussels and our entrees. The Cagney
sundae was outstanding. Our waitress was
very helpful and frank/ right on in explaining
the dishes and wine choices.I recommend
it as a somewhat up scale neighborhood
restaurant.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMNice timeFreidnly staff and interseting food choices. Great presentation.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMFood reviewThe food as usual was excellent. However, we were very disappointed with the french fries. They tasted like they were made from formed potato dust and fried. We love fries but we left 90% of Gemini's on the plate.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food and service. TheGreat food and service. The people we dined with wanted to come back again the next day!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMPretty GoodMostly everything was pretty good. The short rib ravioli and the beef carpachio was my favorite. Could have done without the risotto...had too much mint flavor to it. Cocktails were very good. I thought overall everything was a bit over priced. While everything was really good, still not the best of anything I've ever had to warrent the type of bill it did. Service was great. Would come back for a special occasion or maybe for lunch.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMA wonderful place!Nice atomosphere. Pleasant people. Great food...pea/mint risotto makes a terrific appetizer for the the table. May be too rich for an entree. Beet salad a real winner, among the best I've had. Swordfish special outstanding.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMIt's a good place to "share"It's a good place to "share" & try a variety of food. The small plate, big plate idea is fun. Salads are good for 2 people to share.
The seafood grilled plate was outstanding. Never had calamari stuffed with sausage. It was very different and good.
I will return.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food and service.Excellent food and service. Staff was extremely friendly and attentive. Probably the best Short Rib ravioli I've ever had. Unfortunately, the noise level made it difficult to hear. There were only four of us sitting at a booth and we had to talk loudly to hear each other on the other side of the table. Although the food was wonderful, I probably won't go back because of the noise level. Nothing against the restaurant; I just prefer to have a quiter atmosphere.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is a favorite of ours. This is a favorite of ours. Great menu without being pretentious.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was great, the serviceThe food was great, the service was okay: biggest complaint: We were seated over 45 min late- what is the point of even having a reservation?4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful food and wonderfulWonderful food and wonderful service BUT way too noisy for a decent conversation.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect dinner dateExcellent service, romantic ambiance, and great food. Jumped in a cab, and had another wonderful, romantic, delicious dinner.
Not exactly a regular here, and were thrilled to be recognized, given a great table, and a server who remembered us AND our preferred drinks!3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was our second time toThis was our second time to Gemini Bistro and they did not disappoint. The food is always very good. I had the beet salad, which was delicious, and the short rib ravioli, also delicious. My husband had the chicken and said it was very good. Very nice that they have a kids menu.3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMLike the Small-Medium-LargeLike the Small-Medium-Large menu format. Good non-meat choices. Jamie was a great waiter.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a great dinner at Gemini,We had a great dinner at Gemini, and loved the menu set up in "small" "medium" and "large". Two of us ordered a Large each and a side to share. The Butternut Squash Au Gratin is an incredible side, but may be seasonal. Our main courses were the Pork Chop with Butternut Bread Pudding and Brussell Sprout leafs (OMG)...and the Lamb Chops. My hubby felt there should have been 3 Lamb Chops vs 2 and he would have been happier. But all the tastes were really excellent. Our waitress was perfect, showed up at the right times and very knowledgeable.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMA group of went to celebrateA group of went to celebrate a birthday and to take part in Chicago Chef's week. 2 out of 5 went with the fixed menu while the rest saw other amazing things on the menu we had to try. The food was outstanding. The server helped pair a perfect wine with dinner. If there was a separate rating for bartender/drinks/mixology this place would get a 6 our of 5 stars! Highlights of the group's night included a cucumber mint gin drink, great martini, the crab cakes, steamed mussels, shortrib ravioli, and the swordfish.3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMSound was a big problem.Sound was a big problem. Food was excellent and they accommodated substitutions and special cooking requests perfectly. Server was excellent, efficient and checked in at appropriate intervals without being overly solicitous.
