Diner Reviews
  • "The market salad was outstanding. If the price point were just a tad lower, we'd be here all the time."

  • "I have been to Gemini Bistro at least six times - a few with kids, a few without. Every time has been terrific. The food is great; the service is very professional and friendly. I love that they have the Fishtown White on the wine menu, from Michigan. One of the most notable things about this restaurant is that they don't dumb down the kids menu. If your kids know how to act appropriately in a restaurant and show respect for the staff then it is a great place for families. On the other hand, my husband and I have gone solo a couple of times and it's of course been more fun without the kids! Gemini Bistro is definitely a favorite restaurant of mine in Chicago - what I like to call "repeat worthy"."

  • "On the one hand, this is a great location, beautiful interior, and innovative menu that you can share small, medium or large plates. Service was fantastic and they weren't the least bit pushy or rushing us out the door. They actually let us relax and enjoy our get together which I appreciate immensely! Out of the 4 dishes we tried, 3 were fantastic! My favorite being the mushroom risotto! On the other side, the crab cake tasted fishy, and we all know what that means...it's not exactly fresh. Regardless, I would definitely come back and try out some of their other dishes!"

  • "Food and service was excellent. The only complaint was it is a small place and it was packed and noisy."

  • "Return-appearance for me but this time with my husband. Their four portion choices is one of the two favorite things that brought me back, the other being the quality of the food. We each started with the beet with chevre salad; then shared a medium-size second course of scallops, to which the server offered an addition of a fourth scallop so we could each have two. Then we shared a large-size halibut (I believe it was halibut) third course. Again sharing, the apple crisp was delightful."

  • "This is the second time we have been to this restaurant and the food is just almost inedible because of the over-salted food and sauces. Everything else about this restaurant is great. The decor, service, bar scene, wine list. We love " Top Chef" in our house, and chefs get eliminated for adding too much salt, and unfortunately we will not be going back to Gemini Bistro."

  • "Very nice menu, attentive and friendly service and great casual but elegant space"

  • "First time there and what a breath of fresh air! We immediately received a warm welcome and the restaurant environment was quite inviting. Our server was most helpful and then the food...what a great menu! Four of tried different things and we all loved it! Portions were perfect, food appetizing! I also liked that the menu was a little different but certainly not with "different and weird" items! We WILL be back!"

  • "We sat at the bar two nights in a row and ordered the same dishes. the guys at the bar were so nice, interactive, funny, and professional."

  • "I chose this restaurant as the setting for my mother's 65's birthday. On St. Patrick's Day weekend. It was expected that being a drinking holiday that it may be louder than normal, but we were pleasantly surprised. The ambiance and overall feel to the place said it was just a normal Saturday. There were some typical Irish specials on the menu I tried the fish and chip, which wasn't prepared traditionally but tasted great. My father got lamb chop (1st time) and is now hooked. The guest of honor got the braised short rib which was amazing as well, though she wished she had more carrots. All in all a great success."

  • "Service was outstanding. Gemini Bistro is our goto neighborhood place for a relaxing, deliciously simple, yet elegant, dinner. Spare rib ravioli and mussels are a must try."

  • "My wife and I ate here recently and were very impressed. The service was excellent. Standouts were the Beef Carpaccio (best I've ever had) and Scallops (mid plate). Only item that was a disappointment was the Creme Brulee, tasteless. The restaurant is loud and communicating with a large party could be tricky."

  • "Searched on line for good Lincoln Park restaurants to dine before theater. Read reviews for Gemini Bistro. Friend and I ate only soup and salads with wine. Everything was wonderful. Our waitress was very attentive but not at all intrusive."

  • "Steak Frites and a beautiful stuffed snapper. The perfect late night meal after the theatre. We will be back."

  • "This restaurant is a "step up" yet, still casual and young. It is one of our favorite spots. The food and service are consistently excellent. However, it does get pretty noisy after *:00 p.m."

  • "We always have a good meal here. The wait staff is very friendly and attentive. The wine is good but limiting in choices. The food is great. I have not had a bad dish here. The roast chicken is great. I had the pork chop and it was tender and juicy. My husband had the ravioli and liked it but it was more of a starter than a dinner. He said it was on the sweet side. He also had the tomato soup which is always good. It's served with a slice of grilled cheese, nice touch. We also had the fried calamari which is addictive."

  • "Bistro Salad left alot to be desired. The greens were sparse and not as fresh as one would hope. Roquefort cheese was a small piece, not worth the $10.00. Tomato soup was good as always."

  • "Gemini Bistro could get lost as just a neighborhood gem, but it is worth discovering! The ambiance is just cool enough that it's energetic, but still inviting and intimate. The menu is great with a variety of food types, flavors and portion size. The short-rib ravioli- sent straight from heaven. The Gemini salad reminds of classic French bistro fare. And there is tasty seafood. Most meals end with the skillet sundae, or is it just me? Well worth the effort to find. Good for small groups, up to 6, and the outdoor space in summer is always great!"

  • "Food was uneven. So so salad.... great crabkcake...decent hanger steak with frites ....mushroom "ragout" that wasn't a ragout....dry and flavored with burned green onion! With so many other choices in the area I don't see the need to go back."

  • "This restaurant may be one my new favorites. The restaurant is smaller and quieter, giving it an intimate feel. The service is great - they're attentive, but also give you time to eat and converse with your party. And most importantly, the food was just so good: everything we ordered was perfect and I would re-order it all again. (My party ordered the Brussels sprouts, mussels, and crème brulee to share and I had the scallops.) It is a little on the pricey side, but with the service, atmosphere and caliber of the food, it makes it all worth it. I would definitely come back here."

  • "Excellent service - very attentive despite how busy it was . Had a great experience"

  • "We have dined at Gemini several times over the last four years and always enjoyed it on many fronts. The menu is succinct and well thought out without the huge list of entrees that can make it difficult to decide. Given this, one can decide on preference knowing that whatever is chosen, it will be excellent! We also appreciate the ability to choose a wine that has fair price versus being "gouged" by wine pricing at many restaurants that is 3 or more times the market price. We had a 2009 Malbec that was priced at slightly more than 2x of the market price--seemed fair to us. We have always had excellent service as well so this all adds up to a very nice and enjoyable dining experience!"

  • "I can't wait to go back to this outstanding restaurant! The food was amazing, the service was excellent! The menu was so good, it took me a while to decide what to order. I selected the Salmon with Brussels Sprouts as my side dish. It was delicious!! My friend had the crab cake and said it was amazing! Highly recommend this place!!"

  • "This is a great addition to the neighborhood. We went early at 6pm on a Saturday and the restaurant was very busy. Excellent wait staff."

  • "We dined after an afternoon theatre show so caught the Prix Fixe menu, which was like getting a free dessert. Everything was really good full of robust flavor. Enjoyed the salmon on top of a cabbage slaw; it was different from the usual spinach pairing. Good mixed drinks too!"

  • "Went to Gemini Bistro for a romantic dinner and left down $150 and starving. good was delicious but portions were unbelievably small. $20 for 3 scallops seems a little extreme."

  • "The food portions were small for the dollar amount. The food was also just okay; my tomato soup was extremely salty."

  • "We've lived less than a mile from Gemini Bistro for over a year and never been but restaurant week gave us the right incentive. They were packed and running behind on reservations but once we were able to place an order for food things moved along well. Salmon, mashed potatoes, winter salad, and tomato soup w/ mini grilled cheese were all terrific. Roasted chicken was a bit dry and I've definitely had better gelato but overall a good dining experience! We'd go back again!"

  • "My friends and I were looking for a place to grab dinner before a Friday night performance at Steppenwolf. Since it was the first day of restaurant week, we decided to pick a place that was participating. Gemini Bistro was a great choice. Valet parking was reasonable ($10) and quick, our server, Eric, was very attentive and personable without being intrusive. The wine list by the glass had some interesting choices. Everything we ordered was excellent. The salmon was cooked to perfection and the beet salad was the best I have ever tasted; the beets had a smoked taste that was delicious. The creme brulee was a very good way to end the meal, although the portion was very large. I would definitely return!"

  • "Some items were great and some were not. The french onion soup was delicious. Great flavor and a pretty large portion. To be hones it was enough to be my entire meal. The short rib ravioli was okay. The meat inside was pretty dry and the pasta was slightly undercooked. The scallops were a HUGE disappointment. They were incredibly chewy. I could not even finish one. The crab cake was average. I had to get a dessert to get the scallop taste out of my mouth so I ordered the apple crisp. It was delicious. I would only go back if there was a group that decided to go there and I didn't have a say. In that case I would just order the soup and apple crisp. Also it was overpriced for the quality of the food."

  • "The salad portions keep getting smaller and smaller. Also the bread is awful. What happened to the bread you served previously?"
