Diner Reviews
  • "We've been there many times and it's one of our favorite places, and although the service was a bit lacking this time, the food was amazing, as usual, and great atmosphere. The main complaint I have about this visit is that our waiter checked on with us about 2 min after we got our entree and then not again until our dessert was being brought out. It was probably about 45 min. We had empty wine glasses for over 20 min before we asked a busboy to send our waiter. There were empty tables, so I wouldn't say it was much busier than usual, so it was disappointing. We certainly would've have more drinks if given the chance to order them!"

  • "We have been going to Geja's for special occasions since 1978! We love the food and atmosphere and the service is always the best. We have taken many friends there and our family always chooses it for celebrating special occasions."

  • "We were lucky enough to get a reservation during Geja's anniversary week...when food is 49% off. It's always a great date experience there and even better at basically half price."

  • "What a wonderful evening. The food, wine, service, and over-all experience was fantastic.. They made my husband's birthday so special. Our server, Mary, was a delight and Arturo was engaging, fun, and wonderful. The restaurant is cozy and romantic. It is a magnificent spot for special occasions, celebrations, and lovely dinners! Highly recommend!"

  • "I have eaten at Geja's every time I have visited Chicago and have always had dinner there one night during my stay. I have eaten at many 5 star restaurants all around the country and while some of the food ambiance and service at several places can compare to Geja's... There is no place that I have found in 30 years of travel that even comes close as a total experience. Take your wife or your significant other and they will be impressed beyond belief! Geja's is an extremely unique place and really has it all covered when it comes to a most magnificent dining experience."

  • "Great food, terrific wine, soothing music, wonderful service. Gejas is a relaxed atmosphere where you can linger over dinner and enjoy the company and conversation of your party instead of being rushed to eat and leave. We enjoy bringing first-timers to Gejas as it is a wonderful experience worth sharing."

  • "Not the kind of place I can afford to go to very often, but for special occasions or for a romantic dinner, there is no other place I would go."

  • "The entire experience is a must for all to enjoy. Wonderful location on the North Side, with Valet Parking right at your door step. You walk into a comfortable and slow paced worldly environment, which quickly establishes the expectations that your evening will one to remember. Wonderful Service-Great Food-Incredible Wine List- & a setting for the most romantic evening or family get together. Time moves slowly while you enjoy the food and company, of all that have joined you. This will easily become one of your most favorite of spots to visit, and share with those you love the most. You simply must visit Geja's to enjoy and understand the entire experience - I guarantee you it will become your "Go To" dinning experience."

  • "The food is wonderful and a fun experience. Overall, the restaurant was way too dark. It is nearly impossible to read the menu. Everyone around us was using the flashlight app on their phone before they could order."

  • "My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary here last Saturday. It was our first time trying fondue and we both had a lot of fun. Our server was knowledgeable and super helpful. Food was good, drinks were delicious. The only down side was the way we smelled when we left. Not necessarily bad, just weird. We both had to go home and change and I had to wash our clothes twice to get the oil smell out. We will definitely be back."

  • "My husband and I have been regulars at Geja's for nearly 10 years. The food, service and overall ambiance has all changed. This was likely our last visit and we're pretty sad about it:-("

  • "The best fondue in Chicagoland, or for that matter, anywhere that we have been. Service is always great, love the "original" sauces in addition to the "new" sauces. Management is the best!"

  • "We had a wonderful experience on Saturday. Our first experience here a month ago wasn't great but the manager invited us back to give the restaurant a second chance, and we're glad that we did. We had a booth this time and our server, Shannon, was more energetic and friendly than our server from the first time. She did a great job of making us feel attended to and welcome and really made our experience 10x better. The food was great and Shannon made some very helpful suggestions on meat and sauce pairings tasted wonderful together. After this experience we would definitely consider coming back for future special occasions."

  • "Went to Geja's to celebrate our anniversary and we had a great time. The cheese and chocolate were definitely the highlights of the meal. The meat is cooked in oil (as opposed to a broth) and I think this takes some of the flavor away. They could potentially season the raw meat before bringing it to the table in order to add some flavor. Overall, a great experience and I would definitely return."

  • "Geja's was a great experience. The fondue style of the restaurant was a novel experience that my party and I enjoyed. We had a delightful experience cooking the meat and vegetables in the fondue style cooker. It initially seemed as if there was not enough meat, but by the end of the meal everyone was satisfied! Would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a unique dining experience"

  • "I took my wife here for her birthday. I could not have chosen a better spot. Not only was the food great and the service friendly, but the interactive nature of fondue made this a truly memorable evening!"

  • "Always a fantastic experience! They made special accommodations for the vegan member of our party. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the wine selection and suggested a perfect wine pairing for our meal. Best cheese fondue and loved roasting the marshmallows over a flaming chocolate fondue."

  • "Very romantic and most people there were on dates or intimate small groups. Very dark lighting and make sure you go with a reservation they accept walk-ins but are typically booked full each night. Staff was great and very friendly."

  • "4 of us girls went to he gejas cafe for a bachelorette party dinner. It was fantastic food! Loved the old building as well. The valet parking was great, especially on a very busy day in Chicago and it was reasonably priced as well. Overall a great experience :)"

  • "Obviously Geja's gets a lot of customers celebrating occasions such as anniversaries and they make sure it's special with all their staff congratulating you and also giving you a card. The cheese fondue and chocolate fondue were excellent, better than two other fondue places I've been. We got the Prince's dinner which included all 5 meats (shrimp, lobster, scallops, chicken, and steak). You cook the meat in soybean oil. Other places give you a broth. Geja's said they use soybean oil to prevent flavors from spreading between meats/veggies. You also get 8 very tasty homemade dipping sauces."

  • "I cant say one bad thing about this place. It was stellar! The food, the wine, the ambiance - everything. And even better - no small kids allowed (which put my in a happy place) Very romantic but great for small groups/families with older kids too. Just go and see for yourself"

  • "Went to a play at Water Tower Place, then to dinner at Geja's afterward. What a great day! We'd never been to Geja's before and it was wonderful. We arrived much earlier than our reservation, but were seated right away. The staff was friendly, informative, and they were able to accomodate my food allergies with no trouble. The food was great, the ambience lovely, they even had a guitar player supplying the live music. All in all a terrific place. And we even had a coupon thanks to going online and making the reservation ahead of time. So much food too! I would highly reccommend Geja's for a special evening! Great little find!"

  • "The service was great and ambiance was lovely. But it's very pricey for the actual amount of main course food you get, plus the fact you have to cook it all yourself. "
    Dined on 5/31/2014
  • "Read all the reviews about how "romantic" this restaurant is and how good the food is, but both points were pretty incorrect. Romantic in that the seating is cramped and you can hear everyone's conversation in a few foot range. And the food is nothing above normal fondue. Not worth the price and the "ambience". Really wish this wasn't the place we spent our anniversary dinner. "

  • "A friend who lived in Chicago recommended this restaurant, otherwise we might not have found this little gem. Enjoyed the flamenco guitar and the atmosphere, although the space is tight and you have to watch out with all the open flames for the fondue! You can see it takes a lot of people to make sure the diners don't burn the place down! We did the suggested 4 course meal, all I can say is come hungry and pace yourself! The cheese fondue to start is so good but you'll need room for the main course and definitely the chocolate fondue to finish it off. Great place to take your time and savor the flavors, with 8 different dipping sauces for the meats. "

  • "Geja's really does push the romance envelope with their atmosphere, lighting, and concept. I went with 3 friends and although I felt a little out of place for not being on a double date, we did have a great time. The service was impeccable and the food very good. It is a bit of work and takes some concentration, but it's actually quite fun cooking your own meat and veggies and of course dipping in the cheese and chocolate. If you can, try to request a booth to make it a little more comfortable. "

  • "This is a small, romantic restaurant with only a few booths. I had made reservations weeks in advance for our anniversary and when we arrived we were told two parties were ahead of us waiting for booths. When I explained our situation to the host (owner?} he asked that we have a cocktail at the bar and within minutes he came and got us and led us to a booth. He went out of his way to make it happen for us and I will always appreciate it. Our waitress was also very gracious, and we walked away stuffed and happy."
