  • "We had an early reservation, arrived early, when we asked to sit outside in back in courtyard, we were taken to a nice table outside. There was an extensive wine list, but only a few specialty cocktails. We ordered two entrees and one side dish. Neither entree (Beef Stroganoff or Porchetta) were bad, but neither were amazing either. Asparagus with soft egg was nice, but could have benefited from some lemon. We then ordered 2 desserts to share; peach tea and chocolate pave. The peach tea was not good. The cake tasted greasy and it came with mint ice cream. It was just an odd combination. The chocolate pave was the lone standout of our evening. It was yummy! The accompanying peanut butter cream and milk ice cream were spectacular."

  • "I've been to a few celebrity chef's restaurants with mixed results. GEB was a pleasant surprise. The food was exceptional and the services was above and beyond. Graham Elliott was in the house and was very accommodating to the multiple requests for pictures and took the time to talk to many if not all the diners. The tasting menus offer a variety of flavours. The one thing that will stay with me for a long time, even though it has to be exceptionally unhealthy, was the "twinkie" served with the caesar salad. It was delicious!!! Great experience"

  • "We were big fans of GE's flagship restaurant and were very sad to see it shutter. We were very happy to see some of the "greatest hits" from GE were now on the menu at GEB. Deconstructed Caesar, Risotto, Lamb trio were very good. Chef Elliot even popped into the restaurant while we were dining. Very nice evening."

  • "My meal at GEB was absolutely fantastic. I went in expecting very whimsical food, which i certainly received with a bubble gum flavoured amuse bouche and a deconstructed caesar salad with a parmesan foam twinkie. The person I was with and I ordered the tasting menus which is probably the best thing you can do - since it showed that they can also do the simple things right - featuring beautifully cooked steak and cod as well as the best cooked veal breast and salmon I've ever eaten. The highlight of the night was actually something that was not on the tasting menu but something we received as compliments of the kitchen - a fois gras served served with a jam and soft pieces of shortbread. It was the best thing I've ever eaten."

  • "the restaurant was great, food was fantastic and enjoyed the experience very much. the music was a bit too loud and distracting - maybe this is what a bistro is supposed to be liked though the restaurant ambience seemed to fit a more quite environment and found the music and base a bit too loud. other than that, i woudl recommend this restaurant to anyone travelling to Chicago ( we were there from Troonto). the service was impeccable and would definitely go back."

  • "I was a little worried after reading some of the recent reviews but we had a great experience at GEB. We did eat late though so there weren't many folks in the restaurant. But the waitress was very friendly and gave great recommendations as did the chef when we asked on the way to the restroom. The lamb trio was magnificent - the bacon was like no other bacon I've had before...quite good. We also had the porchetta, which was delectable. We loved every bite...originally planned to share more but we each liked our entrees so much that that didn't quite happen. The salumi was an excellent starter as well as the truffle chips. We skipped dessert - nothing stood out to us. Would definitely go back here! The back patio looks like fun!"

  • "You know the Chef / owner Graham Eliot if you are an ardent Foodie , or if you've been a fan of the TV show MasterChef. The food menu was very creative , seafood , steaks, salads , soup , apps were all there but with a fun exciting twist . Everything tasted really good . Mostly everything was a feast for the eyes . Our waitress kinda disappeared a few times , but her workmates filled in alright . Save room for desserts. All are worth trying . This coming from a non- dessert guy . Lastly , We ate our dessert in the courtyard out in back of restaurant . which oddly ( and very cool) butts up against 2 other eateries in the same courtyard . Quirky and charming at the same time . Good for entertaining business or friends"

  • "I was pretty disappointed in our service. Waiter was not friendly, we said we wanted to share everything and eat slowly, but everything came out all at once. He seemed annoyed that we didn't want to do the tasting menu, and made a comment about our items as just snacking. When they called to confirm our reservation, they asked if it was for a special occasion, it was, but did nothing to acknowledge that when we got there. Food was great, but service is half the experience."

  • "My husband and I loved this place and had a great first experience! The atmosphere was quite comfortable and all of the staff were extremely friendly and polite. We also couldn't have been happier with our meal. The milk and honey appetizer is layered full of fantastic flavors and the lobster risotto is to die for! We found Graham's bistro to go above and beyond our expectations of a two Michellin star restaurant and we look forward to returning."

  • "Well, "Chez Graham" restaurant was excellent! Because we wanted to try everything, so we got 8 dishes for our stomach. Everything was great! Both cold and hot dishes are amazing. There are many good restaurants at Randolph & Halsted; this is definitely one of them."

  • "I made a late reservation to accommodate travel schedules. I feel that because of our young appearance (late 20s) and/or the time of night, we weren't given the same service as others nor the level of service one would hope for when spending 75-100 per person. For example the waiter just had a terse tone with us, and there were also inordinately long waits, even to get the menu or a cocktail (20 minutes)--response was they grow their own ginger or something, and no apologies. It was just not a great experience. Food wise we got oysters, shared two small plates, and for large plates, had chicken, beef stroganoff, mussels, and salmon. Everything except the mussels was absolutely delicious! Would still recommend. Not all staff were this way."

  • "My wife, my daughter and I had a great time at the bistro. It was everything we were hoping for. We did have a small mishap with our order. My wife ordered the lobster risotto and was served a different lobster dish. The other dish was good, but not what she had her mind set on. That was all made up by meeting Graham Elliot. We are big fans of Master Chef. Graham Elliot arrived midway through our dinner. My 17 year-old daughter was so excited to see him. We asked the waiter if Graham was willing to have a photo taken with her. He agreed and it was not only the highlight of our night, it was the highlight of our long weekend in Chicago. (it beat the Queen and Adam Lambert concert.)"

  • "I brought my daughter here while on a mini vacation in Chicago. We are both huge Graham Elliot fans and she very much wanted to try the restaurant. We were not disappointed. The food was incredible as was the decor. The only complaint is that the music is fairly loud for a restaurant and makes conversation difficult. The Lamb trio was my daughter's favorite lamb so far and she orders it whenever she sees it on a menu. This is definitely one of my favorite places to eat while in Chicago."

  • "Not pricey to the level of of his original restaurant, GEB is moderately expensive but worth every penny. The man himself was present this evening as well. The menu is imaginative and interesting: starting wiht a Peruvian ceviche and a deconstructed Caesar (hard to explain), moving through spring risotto and linguine with suid ink and clams, then capping the meal off with entrees of poached lobster and a lamb trio, there was little more to ask for. All amazing tastes, all prepared perfectly, all served in the friendliest of ways. Wines were mostly steep, but what an experience! Dining in the courtyard added to the fun as well!"

  • "We had a great meal and great service. My wife and I each ordered a 5-course tasting menu and we enjoyed each course. Our server was extremely helpful in answering our questions about the menu and our drink options and the service was spot-on all evening. On the night we ate there the weather was nasty, but we were having such a good time we weren't in any rush to leave. Prior to dining, we had read some of the recent reviews and had some concerns. But we quickly forgot about them and had a good time."

  • "I was at GEB for the first time and was really looking forward to our meal. My friend and I were sat well after our reservation. we had to ask for our waiter to be sent over after waiting a while with no attention. I asked him what were some of his favorites or were there house specialties? His curt response was, "the items on the 2 tasting menus on the bottom of the menu are the dishes the chef recommends"....no description of anything.....couldn't bother to spend an extra word on us. He made us feel like he was doing us a favor. The music was really loud and I had to practically yell at my friend to have a conversation. The food was good - Spring Risotto and the Milk and Honey appetizer were the stand outs. I expected so much more -boo!"

Lastly, the outside dining was great; very close to a neighboring restaurant but the paired ambience was great!"

  • "We were very excited to visit GEB on our trip to Chicago. However we were sort of disappointed. The waiter was a little pushy and came off rude. Other wait staff were nice and we had a table across from the pass, the chefs were friendly and engaging. The food was beautiful but not as delicious as I expected. The salmon was WAY under cooked. I understand that chefs like it medium to medum rare, but ours was pretty raw (seared on the outside and cold and slimy on the inside). I enjoyed my lamb well enough, but it wasn't spectacular. The "twinkie" on the reconstructed ceasar was the best thing we felt we had. The risotto was very good. Limited bar choices and mostly ice cream on the desserts left me a little wanting. Music was too loud."

  • "What a great experience. The food was excellent, we got to meet Chef Elliot and we had a ball! Lovely inside but we opted for the patio where the weather is night. For outdoors tables/chairs were excellent - great atmosphere. Entire staff was welcoming including Chef Elliot - great service, efficient and full of smart suggestions. Whimsical patio menu with alcoholic slushies! A+ on concept. Food was delicious; Deconstructed caesar w/crouton full of Caesar dressing - delightful! Savory spring risotto, rich, elegant beef stroganoff and perfectly cooked salmon. All unique and flavorful. Presentation was as good as the food - awesome! Key Lime and Baked Custard for desserts both rich and creamy but neither overly sweet. The best!"

  • "I should have known this dinner wouldn't live up to its owners TV standards when it was half empty on a Friday evening. Not that it was a bad meal but it was just average and I was expecting "great" from GEB! The outside seating area is nice but the cheap plastic Ikea chairs and the wobbly fake cast iron tables made it feel cheap! (Like I was eating at a wal mart food court). I ordered the risotto and the beef stroganoff. Both had the potential to be great but the risotto could have had more flavor and the beef was a bit grizzled."

  • "I'd been to Graham Elliot's original restaurant and absolutely loved it. I was super disappointed to find that it had closed down. So for my girlfriends birthday I decided to take her to GE's Bistro and we both thought it was fantastic. We both had the Greatest Hits Tasting and every dish was phenomenal. I'd definitely recommend doing one of the tastings if you go."

  • "The food was good...different. We had hight hopes for this place. The appetizers where very good but everything went down hill from there. The services was lacking and the fact that we where rushed (no one was waiting on tables and the place was not full) is what lead to the 2star rating. My plate was undercooked so I sent back to have them cook the steak a bit more....it came back the same. The waiters never asked me how I would like my steak cooked or told me how they recommend. My husbands meal was okay but again not worth the price. Before we where even done with our drinks the server brought us our bill. She never asked if we needed anything else. With so many great places in the area don't waste you time or money coming here!!! "
