I brought my fiance here for his birthday and we loved the food, atmosphere and service! I wouldn't say the menu is different and unique, seems like I can get that type of food at all fine dining restaurants. But overall, it was a great experience!

Even though this was our first visit to Gaylords, we were immediately impressed with the friendliness and attentiveness of the service staff. We had Sunday brunch, enjoyed the food, and afterwards had fun looking through the shops and all the lovely items and art. Be sure to visit the Sweet Shoppe on your way out. Suffice it to say that on our next visit EVERY Sunday will be brunch at Gaylords !

Food was excellent - starters of ahi poke (most creative presentation we had in Kauai) and Caprese salad with an excellent aged balsamic vinegar; mains - we both had beer-battered fish tacos, perfect size (not too much) and flavor, fresh Ahi. Only 2 complaints: using Opentable usually results in Host/hostess paying careful attention to our special table request and here we were treated with indifference; and although we ordered wine up-front it took a while to come. Otherwise all else was great.

We booked our table for 7:30, at 7:29 the phone rang in the car, "Are you coming". First clue. We arrived, ordered drinks, noticed that few tables were occupied. Lovely piano music playing in the background was being drowned out by ka boom of a luau in the back. Second clue. We ordered the Prime Rib special and we all asked for real potatoes rather than the garlic mashed. One of our party was able to watch our drinks being made & then just left on the bar. Our meal arrived shortly after all with garlic mashed, no real potatoes, no drinks yet. Third clue. We talked to the waiter, yes, the potatoes were coming as well as the drinks. Our dinners left a lot to be desired , the outside cut of beef was tough & not edible, other cuts were cooked as ordered , but the inside of the cut was the only edible part . Still no drinks, no potatoes. Finally after another inquiry about the drinks, they arrived. Still no potatoes although they said they were coming. The garlic mashed tasted like instant potatoes out of a box. The potatoes finally arrived and there was not enough for 4 servings, By that time we were all done with the meal, in more ways than one. The manager came by, we complained, he apologized and said he would adjust the bill by taking the 1 order of prime rib off the bill and giving us all a $5.00 credit. He did that but then added the prime rib back to the bill but left the $5.00 per plate on. They never offered us dessert, coffee, tea, another drink just the bill. We left. It was a costly bad experience .We are now, the next night, having dinner at home. Would not recommend this place to anyone. Visited November 2014

When we come to Kauai we always have dinner at Gaylords. It has never disappointed . The Caprese salad is always at the top of my list to have. Although it was still good it was not the same as it use to be. It always had plenty of avocado on it but this time you could hardly find it, and overwhelmed with balsamic. I think a chef should not try and improve on something that was perfect to begin with. The pork tenderloin was very good but again overwhelmed with sauce. I had the fried chicken. Which was not as described and was sent back. The server was very gracious and accommodating as well as the manager . We will again return to Gaylords next time we visit and hopefully it will return to the top of our dining choices.

We were delighted to find that it is back to what we knew as Gaylord's. The food is wonderful, the service...........everything as we remembered from the original. Cannot wait to return.

food over rated/over priced. seared ahi was okay, nothing to brag about for the price. salad was disappointing. floating in dressing. Had about 1/3 and couldn't eat any more. Actually tilted plate to one side and had at least 3 to 4 tablespoons full of dressing at one side. I am being conservative in my measurement. Waiter did ask if I wanted another one, but I wasn't that hungry to have another salad (saving room for desert). He should have taken the cost of it off the bill. Banana coconut creme pie average at best. Not many bananas; we counted 3 little slices. Save your money and go elsewhere!

We were looking for a decent restaurant for lunch close to Lihue airport ahead of our early afternoon flight and found Gaylord's on OpenTable. We decided to give it a try because of the great reviews we saw online but honestly expected somewhat of a tourist trap... well, it most definitely is not a tourist trap but an amazing restaurant that blew us Manhattan foodies away on all levels. We sat at a table on the beautiful porch, and the peaceful, magical setting is already reason alone to come back to Gaylord's but then the food was served and WOW, WOW, WOW, this was one of the best lunches we have had on the island. Add to that professional, knowledgeable, wonderful staff and you realize that this is a 10/10 restaurant - kudos!

We missed brunch due to the hurricane, good reason to visit Kauai a 5th time because Saturdays lunch was fantastic. Poke was fresh with a little kick and big enough for 2. Koloa rum mai tai's are the way to go. Beautiful settling, explore the mansion, take a train ride around the grounds or visit the Koloa Rum store, the whole experience is worth the stop.

We dined at Gaylords on the 16th of October. We were with another couple and we were looking forward to our dinner. Unfortunately we had one of the worst meals ever. My husband had the fried chicken and I had the shrimp fettuccini. My meal had no flavor what so ever. Someone forgot the salt and pepper and all the rest of the spices. My husband said his meal was also bland, and greasy. He will normally eat just about anything, but not this one. We didn't complain at the time because we had our friends with us, and didn't want to make a big deal out of it. We love Gaylords and have eaten there many times in the past. Now we are not sure we would risk it in the future.

We celebrated our 20th anniversary at Gaylord's at Kilohana, because it was well reviewed, and the dining options looked great. And it was all great... Our server was super; the shrimp and scallop spring rolls appetizer were delicious; my snapper with lemon risotto was divine; hubby's filet mignon with Point Reyes bleu cheese was outstanding; the BEST Mai Tais on Kauai are the Koloa Rum mai tais from the Mahiko Lounge at Kilohana plantation; and the Kilohana Plantation pie was a tasty way to end our lovely night and special meal. Also, we loved meeting and petting April the cat...yay for her =^..^=

Obviously used to serving many people quickly, service was efficient and unfriendly. $5 happy hour food was the worst we had in 8 days on Kauai...pork in quesadillas dry and tough..most likely a luau leftover. Grounds were nice, noise from luau distracting. Found it overpriced. Mai tai in the lounge was great and bartender friendly. Disappointing "splurge night" to celebrate our anniversary.

The food was fine but not great. Nothing extra special to rave about, especially for the cost -$29.99 per person - $39.99 to add unlimited mimosas. Scones were hard and French toast was pre-made and sitting in a chafing dish. Bagels were actually one plain variety of "bagel thins" which seems a very odd choice.

We have always loved going to Sunday brunch in Kauai. Unfortunately Gaylords is the only restaurant left that has a Sunday brunch so we tried it last week even though we were disappointed the last time we were there. We won't bother again. The buffet was very sparse with mostly breakfast items that had been on the line too long. The desserts were tiny cookies or small, uninspired items. They offer three entrees that come with the brunch, but are ordered separately. The prime rib was already gone at noon so we tried the ahi benedict...cold, tasteless, a true disappointment. We won't be back.

And our food was great! My husband is still talking about how good the prime rib special was! Then we had the kilohana plantation pie for dessert.... AMAZING! First time I went there, it was like eh, but years ago. I came here a second time because my mother in law gave us a gift certificate. Service was excellent and so was the food. No complaints at all, delicious. The thing that stuck out the most was the manager Jeffery. He was helping the servers give out bread, busting tables, and making his rounds to make sure everyone was happy. You never see managers that involved. The restaurant owners have found them a gem. Kudos Jeffery, thanks for making the experience that much better.

I remember the days when brunch meant stuffing your face with thousands of calories of food that had no rhyme or reason. Gaylords brunch is like this. The more than sufficient buffet had the standard heavy brunch dishes such as sausage, scrambled eggs, two types of rice, bacon, so-so fruit (For Hawaii!) with a couple of very good dessert standouts, pastries etc. Then you also get to select from one of three main courses which were prime rib, an ahi eggs benedict or the omelette of the day. All it it was a big bowl of OK for an old fashioned style brunch. There was very little creativity. On the plus side -the view, service and ambience were outstanding.
