  • "This is the third time we've had Sunday brunch at Gaylord's and each time it just gets better. We were seated at the garden end of the breezeway and there was an excellent ukelele player there along with his daughter, who performed some lovely hula dances to some of the songs. You get a main course, then there are many good dishes served buffet style, plus unlimited juice and coffee. It's located at the Kilohana Plantation, the former residence of one of Kaua'i's last sugar barons. Beautiful house and grounds, with a few shops as well. A lovely spot to end a vacation."

  • "We went to this restaurant to celebrate my wife 50th birthday. We had a great table with a view of the gardens. Food was great as well as the service. After dinner we went to yhe loung where a pianist was playing movies songs. Great souvenirs."

  • "I really loved this restaurant. Setting is an historic sugar plantation that is completely restored. My entire family enjoyed strolling the grounds. The food had fabulous flavors and lovely presentation. I had the seared ahi in a mustard sauce. I eat ahi fairly often, but this preparation is the best I have had. My son and daughter in law loved the fried chicken and corn waffle with a bourbon syrup. Better than Roscoes! Our waiter, Jeff, was charming, informative and attentive. He made sure to lower a screen when the sun hit our eyes. He also explained a lot about the history of Kauai plantations when we asked. The entire experience was so perfect....Vintage Kauai for sure."

  • "We had a very nice dinner here. The restaurant is set up in a type of horseshoe with a nice courtyard in the center. Dinner and service were really good."

  • "I went here with a girlfriend 3 yrs ago and vowed to take my future significant other here, which I was able to do last week. I was afraid the experience wouldn't be as awesome, but thankfully it was! The service was impeccable. We were also sat at the very end of the patio, almost on the grass-very romantic!"

  • "I ate at Gaylord's last summer & it was good! It's in a beautiful historic plantation house & after taking the train ride around the grounds earlier & learning all about the food & herbs that are grown on the property we wanted to try it. It was fine so we wanted to go back this year. Disappointingly there wasn't anything on the menu that was grown there (maybe some herbs) or even locally sourced on the island. My steak was gristly & salty."

  • "We booked our 15th anniversary meal at Gaylords after hearing it was one of the best romantic "special occasion" dinners on Kauai. Much to our horror, several tour buses arrived at the same time, carrying hundreds of people. Even though the tour crowd was ushered off to the luau (which was close to the "romantic dinner" area), the audience yelled, and drums and conch horns were continuous. The food was mixed: Ahi Poke was outstanding, and the Ono (that night's special) was horrid (overcooked and the sauce tasted canned). Service was attentive - overly attentive - and rushed. Plus, there was no mention that it was our anniversary, despite sending a note to the restaurant when we booked that it was a special night. We will not go back."

  • "The Mai Tai, the grounds, and the shops were great. The food was just OK and much too salty. The servers seemed very amateurish."

  • "We have been here many times. The food is very nice and tasty. They have a good variety and lots of creativity. The desserts are great be sure to save room. The chocolate and strawberry tart was amazing. The coconut cream pie is excellent. The service was not very good. We waited an hour before we got any bread and we had to ask for it. The waiter was not very attentive to us or our needs. We had a party of eight and was a bit disappointed in that department."

  • "The food was good and the ambiance was nice but the service could not have been worse. We were ignored by the server for at least 30 minutes. When we ordered, she apparently forgot to put our order in and we sat for another hour. It's a nice place and all but not worth sitting around for two hours for brunch. Lots of kids running around also."

  • "I'd heard a lot about Gaylord's and perhaps I expected too much. We went on Father's Day and had the brunch. The brunch was well stocked, but for the price per plate, I expected more higher end choices - Been to lower priced brunches that contained same choices. Also our waitress' attentiveness and friendliness was lacking. I also dislike restaurants that add automatic gratuity. We typically tip 20% and we had a party of 7 and we were automatically charged 18% so I guess it is their loss - we did not go above the 18% due to the poor service from our waitress."

  • "We have been coming to Kauai for years, and this was our first time visiting Gaylord's. We did not know what to expect and were greatly surprised with how nice everything was. The food was tremendous and reasonably priced for such a nice restaurant. Afterward we spent time in the lounge and listened to a great piano player Hank. This was a very special night for us and we couldn't have been happier. Will be going back here every year from now on"

  • "We make Gaylord's a special dinner each time we visit Kauai. The bar was busy and service good, however, the waiter who served us was terrible. We ordered an appetizer and main course. After 30 minutes, we asked another server to check on our order. The waiter returned to tell us he forgot to put our order in. The crab dip was tasty and my mahi mahi very good. My husband did not like the prime rib he ordered. Dessert of coconut-banana creme pie had little flavor. The best thing about our visit was the wonderful Hawaiian music to listen to during the meal. The guy who sang was fabulous!"

  • "The food wasn't good. For the price should have been much much better. Spring rolls seemed 100% cabbage and had off putting flavor. Cioppino had the 2 smallest calamari pieces ever seen and the blue crab was supposedly shredded & in the sauce (this not noted on menu). Couldn't be tasted. Also little gnats hovered around all night and landed on water glass and on plates."

  • "After having several meals at beach-front establishments (all excellent!!) we 'took a chance' on Gaylords seeing how it is situated somewhat inland. The 'chance' we took was well worth it. The whole experience was excellent from being able to overhear the nearby Luau, to the short Kaua'i rain shower, to the Spring Roll appetizer to the perfectly prepared and so delicious seared Ahi and seafood pasta. The only reason we didn't go back is that we ran out of time! Great experience!"

  • "When I made the reservation, I told them it was for a birthday celebration and asked them if they had a small cake available. I was told they did. When we arrived , I mentioned it again and was assured again that they were aware if it. However, not once during the dinner did anyone say Happy Birthday to my wife, nor did a cake ever show up. Rather tHan make a scene and spoil my wife's birthday, I chose to not say anything. Now, overall the experience was okay. The menu is limited and my Mai Mai was bland and mushy. My wife said her meal was okay. Prices are high and not worth the cost for the quality of the food. The only thing Gaylord's has going for it is the ambience."

  • "Food and setting was excellent? Price was on the higher side but still reasonable for what you got. Took the train ride also. Overall a great evening out. We will return."

  • "We had dined at Gaylords 12 years ago, and again in May 2014. Ambience was quiet and relaxing; additions such as the stage and dinner music enhanced our evening. Food was very good--scallops and the prime rib--and the service impeccable. The caesar salad with salmon was large enough for an entree; caprese with mango and avocado very tasty! My only complaint was the prime rib wasn't very hot when served. This is understandable since they corrected an error with my husband's entree and exchanged his mashed potato for the potato croquette; but in doing so, took away my prime rib so both meals could be served together. Temperature of the prime rib suffered while the exchange was made--a minor concern, but a totally enjoyable evening. "

  • "Honestly, I am rarely impressed with the service when dining in Hawaii, the food is usually good but the service is more often than not pretty bad. Gaylord's had everything! Our server, Jeff was amazing and so was his servers assistant. Great recommendations for wine and dessert. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here. Next trip to Kauai we plan to do breakfast or lunch and enjoy the train ride and maybe even go to the luau. "

  • "We looked for a restaurant that was near our hotel and came across Gaylord's. Some reviews were mixed, but we decided to give it a try for something different. We were most pleasantly surprised. All of our meals on the island have been great, but if you're a seafood lover, our experience with Gaylord's surpassed great. It was the best seafood we've had. Absolute perfection for our tastes!"

  • "We have been going to Gaylord's for many years, and we were looking forward to a great dinner since we have had many there in the past. The menu seemed much smaller than it has been in past years. The entree options & preparations were not nearly as intriguing. The food was very good but not awesome. We were somewhat disappointed in comparison to past experiences at Gaylord's. The setting, as always, was very peaceful & scenic. The service was excellent as well. We are willing to give it another try, but it is definitely not the same quality that it used to be. "

  • "Few restaurants can boast a better outdoor setting that Gaylord's. All seating is outdoors in a U-shaped lanai. It is one of the better brunch values on the island. Evening dinner is perfect for a romantic setting."

  • "A lovely setting for either lunch or dinner. We haven't had the opportunity to dine here in a number of years but Gaylord's still has all the charm and dazzle the we remembered. This is Hawaii and outdoor dining in a lovely romatic setting of an old Sugar Plantation is wonderful. There are numerous items on the menu but the fresh fish is fantastic and the service was excellent!! "

  • "We enjoy the ambience and character of Gaylord's...not to mention the food is remarkable and prepared wonderfully! We have been there several times over the years on our visits to Kaua'i and have not been disappointed ever. Great staff...great service and great food!"

  • "During our honeymoon, Gaylord's provided us with out most unique dining experience on Kauai. There is no view of the ocean, but you get a more unique experience. You get to sit in a dining area setup in a U-shape, with no doors or windows to block your view of the courtyard. In the middle of the courtyard is an area for live music which added a great feel to our dinner. The food preparation and presentation was excellent. We shared the caprese salad, and my wife enjoyed the grey snapper while i enjoyed the chicken and waffles. The food was so good, i actually remember everything we ate even after all the restaurants we've eaten at on Kauai. Don't miss the experience at Gaylord's!!"

  • "Just returned from vacation and enjoyed the food for Sunday Brunch at Gaylord's. It was nice to have a selection of entree (husband chose NY steak and eggs, and I had omlette with fabulous mushrooms and asparagus) in addition to buffet items. Most items were fresh and hot. There was not a waffle station as advertised but french toast instead, which was cold. Ambiance was great, with live music and hula dancer. Service, on the other hand, was non-existent. We received drinks from waitress and then never saw her again. Had to flag her down for coffee refills and for pepper (she only brought pepper shaker - no salt). Later heard commercials on the radio for brunch, which mentioned a prime rib carving station - there were no carving stations."

  • "Our second time to Gaylord's; just about everything was perfect; we had a friendly, attentive waiter; the food is the highlight here at Gaylord'sl just out of this world. The young hostess seemed a little put-off or unfriendly, and in the fabulous lounge with piano player, the TWO bartenders seemed more attuned to flirting with a group of four women than making sure all guests were promptly served."
