Diner Reviews
  • "My husband and I were visiting New York for the weekend, and since I'm a huge fan of Bobby Flay this restaurant was definitely on my list to go to. Wait staff was very informative and friendly, and so was the bartender. We had a great time!"

  • "The food was stellar, the service impeccable. I'd go again in a heartbeat! It's everything people said it would be and more. Bravo Bobby Flay!"

  • "Ahhhh, finally a meal where each and every single dish exceeded our expectations! Wonderful selection, big, bold flavors that all seem to work together in perfect harmony. We were so luck to get a reservation, even though it was for 11:00! Even the desert we chose the blackberry tart with strawberry rhubarb gelato, omg, so delicious! Great service. Wonderful evening!!"

  • "My third time at Gato and I'm a huge fan. I've tried different things each time. We loved the roasted carrots. The rabbit was tender and delicious. All the recommendations proved to be as described and more. The crab risotto continues to be a favorite. We each ordered a desert. Why share one when you can try three!"

  • "The food was good...maybe a 23/24 Zagat rating. The small bar bites were better than the appetizers or the main. Considering the prices ($17 for the octopus salad which was 1 single 4" tentacle) I'm more likely to be back for a drink in the bar and some bar bites."

  • "The food and service were impeccable. The paella, scrambled eggs, octopus and Meyer lemon tart were the hits! Will definitely be back."

  • "The Good: waiter was very knowledgable and friendly, mains (Porterhouse Pork Chop and Steamed Halibut were fantastic) The Bad: We expected a relaxed time with unforgettable food from Chef Bobby. 3 minutes after placing our order our appetizers (Charred Tomato and Roasted Octopus) arrived (Pre-made I wonder?). 1 minute later our taste 3 arrived ( Artichoke Heart, 11 Layer Potato and Lamb Tenderloin) Don't bother, def not shareable. We now had 5 dishes on our table in 5 minutes! The next seating use have been waiting. Space it out a bit Bobby. Wine was reasonable. Bottom line complex flavours, food itself did not disappoint. I would skip the pick 3 and lower your Gato expectations. $250 and 45 min later we left with mixed feelings"

  • "Had to schedule my res for 4 people way in advance but our first experience at Gato was a good one. The bar food is tasty – small plates, so if you are a group double up so everyone can taste. Apps were solid, the spreads tasty. You get a lot of flavor in some very small bites. Everyone in our group enjoyed the entrees and dessert as well. Cocktails are just ok... compared to the assertive flavors in the food they come off a beat weak. Especially like the eleven layer potato, chorizo crepenette, scrambled eggs, steamed halibut and chocolate crema."

  • "DEFINITELY try the bar menu- 3 items for $17. Each bar item is about 4-5 bites, so it's good to share among 2 people. We got the eggplant, 11 layered potato, and mussel & razor clam salad. Loved them, esp the eggplant & potato. We also got the lamb sausage pizza appetizer. I don't usually like lamb, but it was delicious (a bit spicy too which I love!). Quite big for just 2 tho, so we were full even before our entrees. I got the paella, but found the kale to be a little bitter, and the dish was too salty for me. BF got the pork which was huge but very tasty. We ordered a half bottle of wine- if we had skipped, it would have been a very reasonable price for the meal. Ambiance was a bit dark & AC was turned up high..glad I brought a cardigan!"

  • "start with the bar trio of appetizers. we loved the burrata and beets, the eggplant with manchego and balsamic and the mussels and razor clam salad. we also opted to share 6 of the appetizer portions for our main meal - it was too much, i would recommend you get no more than 2 per person if you go this route. MUST try dishes include: the scrambled eggs with confit toast (amazing!!), the tortiglioni pasta - again with eggplant, and the roasted cauliflower. we also had the pizza with goat cheese (good but not an essential) and charred carrots - delicious but i think the cauliflower is more exceptional."

  • "My husband and I were in NYC for our anniversary and went to Bobby Flay's restaurant Gato. The food and service were excellent. The atmosphere was very nice, but was a bit dark for me. I had the tapas type meals which were 3 for $17 and our server recommended the burrata cheese, potato layer and eggplant. They were all delicious. My husband had the Gato salad and the pizza with goat cheese and he loved them both. The food prices were pretty reasonable for the quality. I had two glasses of wine for $28 which is not over the top, but not cheap either. They had quite an extensive wine list. I would definitely go back if ever in NYC again."

  • "My husband, myself and our three daughters (in their twenties) loved Gato! We had a late reservation on a Sunday night, were taken immediately to our table, and had a fabulous evening. Our waiter was excellent. We had Spanish wine, grilled octopus (best I've ever had), vegetable paella, lamb, and incredible desserts. Ambiance was great, waitstaff truly excellent. Will definitely go back to try the rest of the menu!"

  • "Excellent sommelier in matthew. We wish him luck in his upcoming sommelier pursuits. Flavours were very intricate. How can octopus be that tender yum! Desserts were out of this world - we love the pastry chef"

  • "Highlights were the lamib tenderloin, mussel + razor clam off the bar menu. Roasted octopus was great. Charred beef and pork chop were also great. The 11 layer potato was solid, wished it was a little more crucnchy, or cheesy or something though...Roasted shrimp were fine, nothing unique. Cheesecake for dessert was delicious. We'd go back, try some new stuff."

  • "I'm not sure where to begin. We went to celebrate a birthday and each person at our table of 5 started with the pick 3 from the bar menu. There were a variety of selections and each person loved every bight. As an entree I had the beef, which was incredible. I also snared bites of the pork porterhouse, which was equally good. Dessert was great and the complimentary glass of Sherry was a nice touch. Don't pass on the biscotti. Seriously."

  • "Wow!! Absolutely amazing food!!! Service was friendly and attentive. Order the bar bites (even at your table) – everything had such huge flavor packed in every bite! Rabbit was savory comfort food and the squid ink pasta with prawns was delicious! Perfect portions as well. Cocktails were great & decent wine selection. Even though I had to book a month in advance, I will definitely be back!zing food!!! Service was friendly and attentive."

  • "You might not be going out to dinner thinking about eating scrambled eggs as a starter. However, they came heavily recommended by our server and we're glad we took his advice, they were amazing. The roasted octopus was also top notch. My only negative about the experience were the meatheads around us in way too casual attire for the restaurant who were cussing and discussing their more than likely exaggerated sexual exploits in graphic detail. I was very glad when these Jersey Shore wannabees left so we could enjoy the last part of our mealin comfort."

  • "From the bar menu, we had the lamb, the potato, and the mussel & clam salad. The lamb was tender, the potato was rich, and the salad was bright and acidic. For an appetizer, we had the scrambled eggs with peppers, almonds, and cheese. It was rich, gooey, and cheesey with a crunch from the almonds. For mains, my wife had an appetizer portion of the crab risotto which was perfectly cooked, creamy, and packed with crab. I had the Tarragon chicken with potatoes and baby carrots. The potatoes have a blue cheese punch and the chicken is... Awesome! We split the agridolce cauliflower with peppers. It was a high point in a great meal. For dessert, we had the blackberry rhubarb tart. The pastry was perfect and the tart fruit hit the spot."

  • "I've had the pleasure of dining at several of Flay's Manhattan restaurants over the years but this one definitely stood out. The meal was absolutely sublime. From the bar bites, including an eleven-layer potato, to the innovative entrees, the kale paella was a revelation and the scrambled eggs - SUBLIME! And the Charred Beef Valdeon changed my LIFE! I will definitely be going back - and SOON."

  • "I have heard a lot of rumbling about Gato in the food world. My fiancé is a chef, so this was a must try on our vacation to NY. Let's say all the fuss is TRUE! Every course was spectacular. Will definitely return."

  • "visited over the 4th of July weekend so it was easy to score a res. Wife has been trying for quiet a while. Drink at the small lounge upfront first, waitress was very nice. Wine list by the glass good, and a good mix of bottles also. Food was outstanding, artichoke, tuna, egg, and crab on crostini were standouts. Yellowtail app lacking in taste I had chicken for main dish, wife had kale paella, both were great. Deserts were ok but nothing to write home about. I was hoping for more of the southwestern flavors that bobby was famous for at bolo, not so much here. Overall room was nice, service was good, food was great , but some misses."

  • " The room is big and reminds me of a large Beer Hall. If you want to get the 5 star reviews you just have to be more elegant. The service was excellent; water poured, table cleared, knowledgeable waiter. I just hate when waiters give you their names. Strike out! I do not want to be friends with my waiter. Food excellent to really bad. Stick with all the small plates, scrambled egg dish: excellent. lamb appetizer- very good, artichoke- very good. octopus- good, paella with kale and mushrooms- NO. Tuna in a spicy red pepper? all wrong! Orada; horrible fishy dish. they didn't charge us. cheese cake ; excellent. food needs a theme..too many cuisines but uses spices and flavoring beautifully. Mr. Flay trying too hard. calm it down."

  • "We were there on the fourth so perhaps the kitchen staff was irregular - literally blood when we put fork and knife to chickens. Two nights earlier, chicken was done but greens in the potatoes needed another washing or two. Not-o Gato fans-"

  • "I attended Gato with my husband and 2 adult sons for an early sitting, as we couldn't get a later time. The food was excellent and the service exceptional. The overall experience was fabulous with the only negative being that the restaurant was a bit too cold (maybe turn the temperature up on the air conditioning)."

  • "This restaurant is in the same vein as Bobby Flay's Mesa Grill in Las Vegas and does not disappoint. The marriage of spices and flavours is most imaginative and the staff are very attentive and on the ball. Definitely a place to remember."

  • "From ambiance to food, I just can say my experience was amazing. I had a party of three, and they all agreed on the quality of food and service. I will definitely be back soon to try some more dishes off the menu. I tried the paella and the trio, and I was happy with my choices."

  • "Ranked number 2 on trip advisor and open table helped snag the last reservation 20 days out staff was unbelievable seated us early drinks were well made and strong we chose 3 bar sample appitizer and the goat cheese pizza and scrambled eggs all crazy good and each bite unique flavor profile Bobby Flay was off that night but his staff were excellent highly recommended no spell check so forgive spelling"

  • "Watching Bobby Flay "Iron Chef" always makes my mouth water and pine for that food. Lots of options at his new restaurant to do so. One of my diners complained there were 8 elements in a dish when 4 would do, but i found the complexity of each dish thrilling. Appertizers are meant to be shared so you get lots of tastes. I love meat, but loved the Kale paella, while the pork chop did look like it came in from a IC contest and was wonderful. Gets very noisy when full, and the staff were way to quick to be cleaning up from a course, even with someone still eating, but friendly and attentive. A fun restaurant and a joy for foodies."

  • "The reservation staff were able to change my reservation from 2 to 4 people without any problems. The space is fun and the service was terrific. The room is very loud. We ordered the delicious mixed plate of dips with homemade pita to start. The pizza with goat cheese was spicy but delicious. The burrata with beets was fantastic. The shrimp appetizer was fine, as was my pork chop. (The polenta on the side was fantastic.) The paella with farro (spelt), spinach and artichoke was outstanding, as was the crusted steak. We didn't order dessert, but they all looked amazing. Overall a winner; not yet as consistent as his other restaurants, but I'm sure given time it will be fantastic all the time."
