One downside: hadn't been there in probably 6 months or so, and the portions have clearly gotten smaller during that time. We had made a reservation but when we got there, the place was packed. Fortunately, they opened a table up for us and were seated quickly. Our waiter was friendly, professional and very capable. It was a hard decision on what to choose from the menu since everything looked great. We ordered the croissant basket which went over big with the table. I ordered a crepe that was out of this world. Even though the restaurant was busy, our server never rushed us and allowed us to enjoy ourselves. A great time was had by all and between the service and the food, I couldn't have had a better birthday!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMBistro with high marks.It's not fancy but has that perfect combination of casual yet you still get cloth napkins, a proper wine glass and knowledgable attentive service. The booths are very cozy. And the food is stellar. Had the pork hash with fried egg and croque Madame and split with my dining partner. Ask for a bit of their lime aioli to add another level of unctuous brightness of flavor on the hash.
Chocolate beniets are hot and molten inside. It's all good. Next time will try the French onion soup with short rib.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMHAPPY BIRTHDAYTwo people celebrating birthdays were recognized and honored by the staff - not only by our waitress but everyone we came into contact with. Our server, Kelly, did an excellent job and when a piece of lamb was chewy it was immediately attended to and a replacement dish brought, on the house.
We have been several times and were really made most welcome and allowed to celebrate two birthdays in a perfect way. Try the creme brûlée or molten chocolate cake--you won't be dissapointed! I had the special, which was delicious; my mom said her croque monsieur reminded her of Paris. The hostess was very gracious and courteous even when there was a mix up with our seat. The manager was very vigilent and on the ball when a member of my party was cutting the loaf of bread with great difficulty - dull knife. He swiftly took it away and brought back the nicely and evenly sliced french baguette. That is what I call service! Parking is always the problem in the city but they have solved the issue with parking next door. Food was excellent and the service top notch. When our entree was late in arriving Adam was at our table, very apologetic for the wait but we were enjoying our conversation so much with the next table that we hadn't really noticed! When our entrees arrived they were outstanding. Complimentary desserts were offered! At the end of the evening we requested a cab and it was remarkably there waiting for us as we left! Beet salad was unusualy taty and creatively presented. Steak tartare was expertly prepared. Our party had rack of lamb, steak frites and mussels. All were surprised at how great everything tasted; servings were very fair and not too big (but we did not have room to try any of the great looking deserts). Most notable was the great service we received from host to winter and busses. A manager or host checked in with us periodically throughout the meal to make sure everything was going well -- and it all was. I ordered--for the first time--a croquet monsieur, and arrived having already been sitting around for a while. The cheese wasn't melting but already hard as cardboard. The ham (a special kind--I forget the name) was very salty and didn't work with the béchamel sauce. Even the great fries were a little cool. If I had time, I would have sent it back, and I know the help staff would have been cooperative.
