Gary's on Spring is a casual fine dining restaurant set in a two story brick building built in 1885. We have dining on the main floor with a walk-out covered patio. Moving upstairs you will find a bar/lounge with couches and exposed brick walls, accompanied by an open air deck to enjoy alfresco cocktails and dining.Continued

  • "With so many options for quality dining in Louisville, it's not hard to find great food. That's also true at Gary's. Went with a group if 8. Everyone loved the food -- Earth, Wind, and Sea was fantastic, as were the Oysters Rockefeller, Shrimp and Grits, and everything else we ordered. Great, attentive service. We will definitely be back."

  • "We celebrated inside, upstairs with Titus. Champagne and crab cakes were excellent. Gary stopped by early and late. Organic salads were sweet and fruity. Blackened scallops with pasta were my favorite. Earth Wind and Sea combination was different... Turtle caramel cake was very good, should have asked to be warmed. Wine list extensive with reasonable pricing to exotic. Gary's staff is excellent! A fine celebration."

  • "The food my husband and I encountered was well-prepared, ample and delicious. The service was very uneven. After taking the drink order, we were not approached for30 minutes (it really takes that long to make a key lime martini?). Our appetizer order was FINALLY taken after the drinks were served. Oysters Rockefeller took 20 minutes from order to table. The entrees did not arrive until 30 more minutes after the appetizer was served. No, the restaurant was not busy, although I saw only one server for four tables. No bread offered...no explanation for the wait either. Now I like to dine leisurely, but this was way too long to wait for food. This was our 20th wedding anniversary, and the long wait smudged an otherwise lovely evening."

  • "This was one of the best dining experiences I have had in a long time. I was so pleased and impressed with our server. She was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and was so attentive to our table. She even made sweet iced tea for my friend and it is not on their menu!! The food was excellent! Everyone in my party was thrilled with their menu selections. The owner even came over to our table to talk with us and see how we were enjoying everything. I wish I still lived in Louisville, because I would be a frequent customer."

  • "Very much enjoyed our experience at Gary's! Great food, great service. Dining is elbow to elbow at certain tables; if you don't like that, request a more private table. There are a number of "separated" tables throughout the room. We had a window seat, so it was quite private and even quiet. The vent was right under our feet and rather chilly, but I plopped my purse on it and we were good to go. I understand the outdoor dining is magnificent, but on this particular night, it was too warm. The building is historic and has been very tastefully restored. Kudos to the owners on this gem of a Louisville restaurant!"

  • "I stumbled on Gary's on Spring while I was out cycling a week prior. Decided to come back to sample the fares. After reviewing the menu, I could not decide on the first course or entree', so I had the waitress order for me. She ordered a salad and swordfish off the specials menu, saying that I can always come back and sample the standard fare. Both were wonderful. Topped it off with strawberry cake off the daily specials menu as well. No surprise, it was wonderful! I will return."

  • "Went to dinner at Gary's for our anniversary dinner. We walked in and there were 4 diners on the first floor. The hostess walked us to the stairs and directed us to go upstairs. Walked upstairs. Not a soul in the place. No bartender. No patrons except for two people sitting outside on the couches seated with a waitress. After ten minutes of no one coming by to check on us I called Jack Fry's for a reservation. While on the phone a man finally came upstairs, said nothing, went behind the bar, filled two glasses of water and came to the table. Seeing the man (her boss?)the waitress came in. They asked how we were doing. I said great, "We are going to Jack Fry's !" We did and had a wonderful meal. Gary's on Spring Street is off my list !!!"

  • "We went to celebrate an early Father's Day, and sat on the 2nd story deck/patio. Weather was perfect. Service was attentive. Never had an empty glass. The thing that impressed me the most was the presentation, or so I thought. Then I dug into the food, and was more impressed by the taste! Everything was very pleasant, and we had a very nice evening. We weren't rushed and both waiters took care of all of our requests."

The result of Executive Chef Harold Baker at the helm in the kitchen and veteran GM Greg Fearing as well Gary's owner Guy Sutcliffe overseeing the dining room, bar and patio area is that you will hit the Trifecta every time that you dine in this neighborhood gem."

  • "We are not die hard foodies, but though we had been to all of the worthy upscale dinner locations in Louisville. We were missing Gary's. Away from the usual upscale and local Louisville restaurants, Gary's is beautifully tucked away from the crowded streets of Bardstown Rd and Frankfort ave. parking was a breeze, the deck bar was a hot spot as the Preakness was just finishing, downstairs was quaint and perfect for dining out with my spouse. Wine selection and specialty drinks were good and the bar accommodating.Appetizer menu was fantastic. The mini hot Browns were so amazing I could have eaten more . The grouper was crispy on the outside and perfectly prepared. My husbands meal was equally perfect. The price was very reasonable."

  • "My Wife & I had a Great experience, food, and service on Saturday evening June 7th. I had the Blackened Bourbon Scallops and my wife had the pork tenderloin, both were excellent. My first choice of wine was sold out so I picked another that was a higher price point, Greg Fearing the manager adjusted the price for me which was something he didnt need to do but was very much appreciated. This shows they are all about providing excellent customer service. "

  • "The 5 of us had dinner Tuesday, June 3rd prior to the Rod Stewart concert at the Yum! Center. All of us were so thrilled with each of our meals and the friendly atmosphere. No one could stop commenting about what a great place it was to have dinner. I personally thought the ceasar salad was the best I've ever had. And everyone raved about their main course choice. We are now watching for other reasons to travel to Louisville so we can visit Gary's on Spring again. Thanks for a wonderful experience. "

  • "We met another couple and prior to them arriving we spent some time at the upstairs bar. This is a true gem in the Louisville dining experience. Nestled into the neighborhood it could easily be missed. The drinks were very good, food was excellent, and the ambience was perfect. A lively crowd, but still quiet enough to have our own table conversation. Our other dining party had not been to Gary's previously and they said they would definitely come back............we were disappointed the outside area wasn't open, but it was a little cool out. Great place!!!"

  • "My wife and I have enjoyed Gary's over the years. Our favorite thing on the menu is the Hot Brown. It is offered as an appetizer but is plenty for a meal especially when coupled with a salad. The rooftop area is great and very informal. We've never been there when there is a band but I think it would be a great venue. It looks like Gary's is on the rise with some new ideas. Go Gary's!"

  • "I made an on-line reservation, but was confused when I checked the restaurant web site - because it indicated they were closed on Sundays. I called and left a message (the Sunday prior to Mother's Day) to confirm the reservation, and they called me back early Monday to confirm all was well. I appreciated that! When we arrived, the customer service was very friendly, and our table was ready. They had a nice menu established, with something to suit everyone in the party. We enjoyed the appetizers, as well as the entrees. Oysters Rockefeller was very tasty. The polenta with my chicken dish was the best I've ever tasted. They also had a nice complimentary dessert bar for the mom's, which was very nice."

  • "Saturday evening the four of us enjoyed our first, but definitely not our last dinner at Gary's on Spring. What amazed me was its proximity to our home, yet we had never heard of it before. After dinner we discovered the bar and deck and then, the garden! Gary's could easily become our favorite Louisville dining experience.   • "The food was disappointing. The only fish that wasn't encrusted with something was the trout and the waiter assured me it was only lightly sauced. When the plate arrived I couldn't find the fish because it was buried under sauce and an odd mess of dressing and vegetables. My husband had the lamb chops and it arrived with the same mess surrounding his chops!"

  • "I was looking for a new spot and found Gary's. My husband and I are big foodies and enjoy the local scene, but had not been to Gary's yet. One trip and we will be regulars! The food was great, the decor is fresh but true to the history of the building and Selene was a very good server. No complaints. Great place to take out of town colleagues - good bourbon list is a plus for those bringing out of town guests. "
