Garridos has great good food but the service is never quite up to par. Every time I've been, I've had issues whether it is with a group or just two people. It is a horrible place for group events because of the service. I was at a group event hosted at Garridos recently that was a lot less enjoyable because of the service. I felt like we were always waiting: for small plates for the appetizers, for the waiter to take our orders, for drinks, and for the check. I understand that they have a no split check policy for groups, but split checks should be an industry standard. Technology certainly allows for it. Pleasantness would've made up for some shortcomings but unfortunately there wasn't much.

Food, dry from being put under a heat lamp. Very little sauce. All food came out together even though we ordered separate courses. Overpriced for Mexican food but since the chef came from Jeffrey's we thought it might be worth it....not!

Lovely meal. We were a party of 10 (mostly out-of towners) and everyone enjoyed their meal. Some of us have some pretty serious food allergies and the wait staff and kitchen were very knowledgeable and accommodating. It was a delightful evening from beginning to end. The food was both lovely to look at and delicious to eat.

We had a 6:30 reservation for dinner on Mother's Day. When we arrived, the host had our reservation, but no table for us inside. He asked if we'd like to sit at the bar or outside. If we hadn't made a reservation, it would not have been a big deal. But we had. Isn't that what a reservation is for? They're supposed to hold your table. The tables outside seemed like an afterthought. Hardly anyone was out there and the tables were unset. They were out of crab cakes. The food is good, but the service and ambiance is so poor it ruins the whole experience. I'm surprised the former Jeffrey's chef has allowed his restaurant to deteriorate so much. I'm not expecting formal, but at least competent. The service/ambiance was not on par with the price.

Very pleasant day outside on the deck. It was windy along 3rd street. We could really see the trees blowing. But we were protected where we sat. The wind did not affect any outdoor guests. Really great brunch! We all shared a tuna ceviche, which was delicious. My wife had an Huevos Benedictos and they accommodated her gluten allergy by putting the eggs on a gluten free tortilla. My son had Mozart Huevos Rancheros with delicious apple bacon. (We shared tastes of our dishes) And I had shrimp tacos - also very good. And then to finish we shared the 3 dessert sampler with Crème Brulee, chocolate with truffles, and a custard -- all delicious. Service was excellent.

When David Garrido created his signature dishes at Jeffrey's years ago we thought he was a genius. So happy for him, for Austinites and our guests that he launched his own restaurant. It is so nice to be able to conduct a conversation without strain with a quieter ambiance out back. He remains on the cutting edge with his creativity and his signature specialties. Sometimes I want to selfishly keep Garridos to myself but that wouldn't be the Austin/Garrido way!

Every aspect of our dine at Garrido's was terrific. The Cucumber Kiwi Martini was refreshing and delicious. Hard to choose between all the enticing choices. The Oysters Bocaditos on yucca root chips were super-yummy, a great launch to our meal. Our waiter provided outstanding service, including recommendations for our dining pleasure. We ordered his two "favorites," the coffee-rubbed steak tacos, and the sea bass on couscous. True to his recommendations, both were absolutely delicious! We look forward to returning for another great dining experience. Maybe brunch next time!

Just had our last meal here. After being seated with menus and water, our table was not visited again for about 20 minutes despite our numerous attempts to signal a server. The one who finally noticed us said she was not assigned to our table but she would help us. Friendly and apologetic, she took our drink orders and said she would get them out quickly since we had waited so long. About 10 minutes later she came back -- with no drinks -- to tell my husband that they didn't have the beer he ordered. He changed his order, and at last our drinks came after nearly another 5 min., watered down from sitting at the bar while the beer order was changed. We gave up, rushed through our entrees, and left without ordering anything else.

first time to eat at Garridos and it was WONDERFUL! the atmosphere was great, food was delicious! my husband and I both tried assorted street tacos - the panko shrimp w/slaw, the pork, and coffee rubbed beef - all were excellent. Appetizer of the best guacamole in town, and a wonderully spicy crab cake. this may be my new favorite restaurant in Austin - loved it.

As an out of town guest, I was looking for a good mexican restaurant in Austin - I had a craving for some good mexican food! The restaurant was recommended to me - I was a little surprised as the menu was more limited than I expected in terms of mexican food but the enchiladas turned out to be pretty tasty. I think the most disappointing was the service. While the staff was polite, they were not really friendly. And they made the assumption that my friend and I wanted to sit outside - it was pretty chilly out on Friday night. We asked to sit inside and they put us at this little table by the door. Maybe that would not be so bad but for the fact that I had 8pm reservations and we got there about 7:45pm but I felt like an afterthought.

We had brisket nacho's (which are not on the menu, but they made them up for us anyway)! So DELISCIOUS. We went here before a show at the Austin Music Hall and although we had a reservation, they were not super crowded when we got there at 6 on a Saturday night. But by the time we left at 7, they were almost full. The service was stellar! We love this place.

The food selection was slightly limited. It would have been nice to have additional entrees and appetizers. The guacamole was great and the margaritas were yummy. We felt like the waiter was probably tired or less interested when we did not order the fanciest tequila for our margaritas. It was a nice enivronment, but because we came about an hour before close I got the sense that they were not too keen on serving us.

This was my third visit to Garrido's. It is becoming a regular stop on my trips to Austin. The dishes are flavorful and the menu changes fairly often. On this particular trip, we had a group of 8 and everyone ordered something different. Everyone was satisfied and pleased with their meals. My salmon was absolutely delicious. On this particular trip, the service was not what I had experienced in the past. Our server was extremely slow getting our orders and difficult to get to the table. She seemed oblivious to the fact that we all sat at the table with our menus closed, ready to order for 15 minutes or more. Nonetheless, I will continue to return to Garrido's. It is definitely a favorite for brunch or dinner.

The dining experience started out with a very rude hostess. She was rude to patrons and staff alike. When we were seated there were only 3 seats and we were 4 people. The server was flustered and overwhelmed and seemed to avoid eye contact so he didn't have to do his job. They ran out of silverware so we had to eat our brussel sprouts with our hands. Food was Ok.

I do not recommend Garrido's. 10 of us went there for dinner. The food was okay, but the restaurant was super-loud. The service was okay until we paid. Because we were a large group, restaurant policy prohibits splitting the bill and automatically adds 18% tip. So we did the math and gave the server 5 cards and some cash coming to $2 more than the total. He came back -- without the original bill -- and insisted that we owed an addition $64. It all got sorted out -- he'd under-charged two of the cards -- but he never apologized and there was no manager to be seen.

The cocktails were quite good. However, we were taking the first bite of our appetizer (which was a delicious queso) as our entrees arrived. I personally appreciate some time between appetizer and main course. I had the garlic mojo shrimp & my pasta arrived only just warm and was lacking flavor. I never add salt, but found myself shaking a full, but not productive salt shaker. After a few minutes, I found that my dish was very cold. My husband was equally disappointed in the pork belly. The sauce was good, but the meat was mainly fat, and we expected better quality, it being the most expensive item on the menu. They didn't give him a steak knife to cut it with. Also, there is such a thing as annoyingly often water refills.

My husband and I wanted a great date night restaurant on NYE in downtown Austin, close to Auditorium Shores so we could walk to watch the fireworks. I found out about this restaurant through OpenTable and Yelp and the reviews sucked me in! The menu was just extensive enough with creative dishes to choose from. My husband had coffee-rubbed steak tacos and I had duck flautas! Everything was delicious! The rice! YUM! I ordered a glass of the Malbec red wine and it was wonderful. My husband ordered a glass of the champagne special and it was done well! A nice twist on a traditional glass. We will definitely be back to Garrido's -- great location, wonderful setting (can't wait to try out their patio!), and great food! Perfect NYE!

The appetizers started out the meal on a high note. Wonderful chicken posole and seafood guacamole. Then I ordered shrimp rellenos which were so hot I had to ask for butter. Altho I picked out some seeds, the peppers themselves were inedible. Unfortunately, the seeds eventually spread everywhere. The rice was pretty good, altho I've definitely had better. The refried beans were blah. Interesting that there was too much seasoning in the rellenos, but not enough in the beans. My companion complained that his pasta dish was pretty blah also. The waitress was friendly and attentive. Then she became TOO friendly and attentive. Became impossible to have conversation due to constant interruptions by her. And other staff, as well.

We love Garrido's. This is the second time we've sat at the large circular table with the beaded curtain, and I continue to find it much too dark.
