  • "I had no idea this place was tucked back there (across from the music hall). Food and pitcher of margaritas were very good!! Queso and guacamole to start. I'd like to sit outside next time - beautiful deck!! "

  • "Just had our last meal here. After being seated with menus and water, our table was not visited again for about 20 minutes despite our numerous attempts to signal a server. The one who finally noticed us said she was not assigned to our table but she would help us. Friendly and apologetic, she took our drink orders and said she would get them out quickly since we had waited so long. About 10 minutes later she came back -- with no drinks -- to tell my husband that they didn't have the beer he ordered. He changed his order, and at last our drinks came after nearly another 5 min., watered down from sitting at the bar while the beer order was changed. We gave up, rushed through our entrees, and left without ordering anything else."

  • "Chips were too thick for my liking. Entrees were good but we were not wowed by the crab and duck enchilada or the steak taco. Server was more interested in getting our drinks and refills. It took a long time to place our food order."

  • "first time to eat at Garridos and it was WONDERFUL! the atmosphere was great, food was delicious! my husband and I both tried assorted street tacos - the panko shrimp w/slaw, the pork, and coffee rubbed beef - all were excellent. Appetizer of the best guacamole in town, and a wonderully spicy crab cake. this may be my new favorite restaurant in Austin - loved it."

  • "Always good. If you can get a seat on the patio in nice weather-take it. Though they have a more extensive menu, their small tacos on small tortillas are still my first choice - especially those made with fried oysters and shrimp."

  • "As an out of town guest, I was looking for a good mexican restaurant in Austin - I had a craving for some good mexican food! The restaurant was recommended to me - I was a little surprised as the menu was more limited than I expected in terms of mexican food but the enchiladas turned out to be pretty tasty. I think the most disappointing was the service. While the staff was polite, they were not really friendly. And they made the assumption that my friend and I wanted to sit outside - it was pretty chilly out on Friday night. We asked to sit inside and they put us at this little table by the door. Maybe that would not be so bad but for the fact that I had 8pm reservations and we got there about 7:45pm but I felt like an afterthought."

  • "Taco Tuesday is such a good deal. Not your average tacos, these are amazing."

  • "We love this place and continue to go back again and again. The food is great as well as the service. A good value - you get what you pay for."

  • "The food selection was slightly limited. It would have been nice to have additional entrees and appetizers. The guacamole was great and the margaritas were yummy. We felt like the waiter was probably tired or less interested when we did not order the fanciest tequila for our margaritas. It was a nice enivronment, but because we came about an hour before close I got the sense that they were not too keen on serving us."

  • "We had brisket nacho's (which are not on the menu, but they made them up for us anyway)! So DELISCIOUS. We went here before a show at the Austin Music Hall and although we had a reservation, they were not super crowded when we got there at 6 on a Saturday night. But by the time we left at 7, they were almost full. The service was stellar! We love this place."

  • "This was my third visit to Garrido's. It is becoming a regular stop on my trips to Austin. The dishes are flavorful and the menu changes fairly often. On this particular trip, we had a group of 8 and everyone ordered something different. Everyone was satisfied and pleased with their meals. My salmon was absolutely delicious. On this particular trip, the service was not what I had experienced in the past. Our server was extremely slow getting our orders and difficult to get to the table. She seemed oblivious to the fact that we all sat at the table with our menus closed, ready to order for 15 minutes or more. Nonetheless, I will continue to return to Garrido's. It is definitely a favorite for brunch or dinner."

  • "The dining experience started out with a very rude hostess. She was rude to patrons and staff alike. When we were seated there were only 3 seats and we were 4 people. The server was flustered and overwhelmed and seemed to avoid eye contact so he didn't have to do his job. They ran out of silverware so we had to eat our brussel sprouts with our hands. Food was Ok."

  • "I do not recommend Garrido's. 10 of us went there for dinner. The food was okay, but the restaurant was super-loud. The service was okay until we paid. Because we were a large group, restaurant policy prohibits splitting the bill and automatically adds 18% tip. So we did the math and gave the server 5 cards and some cash coming to $2 more than the total. He came back -- without the original bill -- and insisted that we owed an addition $64. It all got sorted out -- he'd under-charged two of the cards -- but he never apologized and there was no manager to be seen."

  • "The food was fresh and really good. The drinks were wonderful. Our waitress was so friendly and knowledgable about the area. It was valentines evening and they were sold out but the service made you feel as though you were the only ones there."

  • "We go to Garrido's often. The ambiance is really nice. It's great for a casual Saturday or Sunday brunch, or great dinner dining. The patio is cool, too. We have never been disappointed."

  • "Would definitely recommend this restaurant. Their web page says complimentary valet parking. Not so. Also the address is Nueces but it is actually on 3rd St. But is great once you find it."

  • "Ate here over winter break. We were seated easily. The food and service really were not memorable. We would consider trying again though since the town seemed to be quiet due to the holiday. The bar area is quite large with many tables with full service. We'll keep thi in mind for nights we don't have reservations."

  • "I was disappointed. This was my 5th or more time there and I don't know what happened. It used to be all so good. But this time the dishes were not what I remember. Service is great."

  • "I made a reservation for 16 people here for my 30th birthday dinner and was so glad that I did! I was recommended this restaurant by a friend and Garrido's definitely met, if not exceeded, my expectations! All of my guests really enjoyed their food as well. I would love to revisit this restaurant for other occasions (i.e. when family visits, date night, etc) as I'm sure it will be a hit with just about anyone. Thank you, Garrido's, for an excellent dining experience all around!"

  • "The cocktails were quite good. However, we were taking the first bite of our appetizer (which was a delicious queso) as our entrees arrived. I personally appreciate some time between appetizer and main course. I had the garlic mojo shrimp & my pasta arrived only just warm and was lacking flavor. I never add salt, but found myself shaking a full, but not productive salt shaker. After a few minutes, I found that my dish was very cold. My husband was equally disappointed in the pork belly. The sauce was good, but the meat was mainly fat, and we expected better quality, it being the most expensive item on the menu. They didn't give him a steak knife to cut it with. Also, there is such a thing as annoyingly often water refills."

  • "We used a TravelZoo voucher for a 3-course meal for two at Garrido's, and it's a great deal. Our server was courteous and attentive. A very enjoyable evening!"

  • "Had a fabulous brunch on New Year's Day. Would recommend this place to anyone who loves food and atmosphere - and, while it's Austin, it doesn't feel trendy."

  • "My husband and I wanted a great date night restaurant on NYE in downtown Austin, close to Auditorium Shores so we could walk to watch the fireworks. I found out about this restaurant through OpenTable and Yelp and the reviews sucked me in! The menu was just extensive enough with creative dishes to choose from. My husband had coffee-rubbed steak tacos and I had duck flautas! Everything was delicious! The rice! YUM! I ordered a glass of the Malbec red wine and it was wonderful. My husband ordered a glass of the champagne special and it was done well! A nice twist on a traditional glass. We will definitely be back to Garrido's -- great location, wonderful setting (can't wait to try out their patio!), and great food! Perfect NYE!"

  • "The appetizers started out the meal on a high note. Wonderful chicken posole and seafood guacamole. Then I ordered shrimp rellenos which were so hot I had to ask for butter. Altho I picked out some seeds, the peppers themselves were inedible. Unfortunately, the seeds eventually spread everywhere. The rice was pretty good, altho I've definitely had better. The refried beans were blah. Interesting that there was too much seasoning in the rellenos, but not enough in the beans. My companion complained that his pasta dish was pretty blah also. The waitress was friendly and attentive. Then she became TOO friendly and attentive. Became impossible to have conversation due to constant interruptions by her. And other staff, as well."

  • "We really enjoyed our meal here Sunday night. My sea bass was excellent and all four of us enjoyed our entrees. I have been before, seated outside, which is lovely overlooking the creek. Since it was cold and a special occasion we were seated in a fun rounded booth which looked into the restaurant and was very comfy and intimate for our group. The server was great, with good recommendations."

  • "In a city filled with restaurants it's always fun to try new places but I always find myself returning to Garrido's. Love the decor, service, and of course the food. The brisket tostados are a group fave as are the pork bocadillos. My gluten free bff never lacks for tasty choices as well."

  • "We love Garrido's. This is the second time we've sat at the large circular table with the beaded curtain, and I continue to find it much too dark. Also, I don't think the cushions and seats are cleaned properly between each group of diners because I always find crumbs. It's a difficult table to serve at, so I'm sure it's difficult to clean as well."

  • "This was a wonderful restaurant. My husband is celiac and 95 % of the menu is gluten free. I asked if I could half the sea bass dish since 8 oz. was too much for me. They gladly accommodated me and it was perfect. Melt in your mouth with delicate flavors made the bass unforgettable. My husband had chiile rellenos which were a real treat. The food was outstanding. It is right on the river and has a nice outdoor area overlooking the river. It was cold when we were there, but they have lots of heat lamps which made it comfortable. Excellent food, service and ambiance !"

  • "I called in and they recommended we make a reservation since they were full from 6-9pm. Saw a 6:30 on OT, so booked. When we arrived, the restaurant was way less than half full with plenty of regular tables open. We were seated at the high tables in the bar area when there were open "regular" tables from the time we arrived until the time we left."

  • "After visiting Garrido's for the first time in October, I could not wait to get back. The food is fantastic with lots of choices for my wheat allergy. We went for brunch in October and was blown away. Some of our group had the brunch buffet while others (including myself) ordered off the menu. This visit we came for dinner. While the restaurant became very busy, we always received excellent service and our food was delivered quickly. The beef rellenos, spinach enchiladas, brisket tacos were incredibly fresh and flavorful. The guacamole is so fresh and delicious. Of course, I had to have the jalapeño watermelon margarita again. So yummy and just enough of a kick. I can't wait to visit again!"

  • "I went to Garridos hoping for a bit of authentic Tex-Mex. This place is certainly not that. However, 4 of us all immensely enjoyed our food. I got the coffee-marinated steak tacos and they were "out of this world" good. Margarita was very nice also. I'd certainly visit again."

  • "I looked forward to receiving this survey so I could complete it. Has to be the worst Mexican food I have ever had. You know it's bad when your group orders different things and they are all bad. Tortillas cold, chicken dry with no taste, salsa has no spice. Not good. Way better places to go in Austin. The guacamole was good but that is about it."
