Diner Reviews
  • "Our go to neighborhood rest. for romance and meeting friends! "

  • "I enjoy Garibaldi's for dinner! Although I'm not a regular there, I'm made to fee welcome. Met a friend for dinner and we enjoyed generously sized salads (classic caesar and a warm kale salad) as well as perfectly prepared entrees: lamb and salmon. Presentation is good, service is attentive but not cloying, and desserts are good so save room! Coffee was also good and we both appreciated timely refills."

  • "It had been some time since I had been to one of my favorite spots. Walking in I realized that it had been remodeled. It was now more open and even cozier. Good news is that was the only thing that had changed including the lamb loin still being on the menu. This is an awesome dish as was everything else that evening. In a world where most successful restaurants have trouble maintaining their reputation Garibaldi's is even better."

  • "I was looking for a restaurant to celebrate my six-month anniversary with my super hot girlfriend. The restaurant delivered, she hasn't bumped me yet."

  • "We arrived late for our reservations, but our table was waiting in this packed, noisy restaurant. Our service was impeccable with drinks arriving quickly and our food order taken simultaneously. We both ordered the lamb medallions, and a salad to start. The lamb was served medium rare, juicy and well-seasoned over couscous and fresh haricots-verts. Though one of the most expensive dishes on the menu (offered at $36) it was a generous serving and worth the price. We were too well-fed to order a dessert, but the menu was very tempting. My only criticism was the noise level-too noisy for a real conversation. I would return perhaps for lunch, when it's quieter. We were late hunting for a parking space. Almost impossible."

  • "We met for a business lunch and were shown a quiet table with white tablecloth and comfortable booth seats and chairs. Showed up at 11:30 and service was a little slow to start, but the waiter was knowledgeable about the soup and explained the offerings well. Delivery was reasonably fast and competent. The food was quite good with variety and flavors that were vibrant. The pen didn't work that I was supposed to use to sign the credit card receipt, and I couldn't catch anyone's eye, so I walked to the bar and found one."

  • "Good but nothing spectacular- expected more for the price."

  • "G's is always terrific. Solid through and through. I hate to rate it so highly as I may have to compete against you for a table!"

  • "I have been going to Garibaldi's for years. The food is outstanding and the cocktails marvelous. It never disappoints."

  • "This is not the great Garibaldi's of the past. Garibaldi's brings in the crowd because of its non-competitive neighborhood. Excellent drinks from the tiny bar at the front. Wish the service and the food was a good. We almost left when we were ignored for a good 15 minutes after our seating so we could order drinks. Even dessert took more than 10 minutes to get to us. Our food was fair at best. For example, my osso buco veal looks delicious on the plate, but it was so heavily seasoned with salt that my mouth burned. Almost couldn't eat it. Wanted a burger. Wasn't on menu. Couple next to us ordered off menu. Got their burgers. Looked great. What's up with that. Saying they can't do a burger, and then serve two at the next table?"

  • "We have been dining at Garibaldi's for many years and this was the first time that the food was only okay. The salmon was cooked well but didn't have a lot of flavor and the grain accompaniment was flavorless. My husband's pasta was on the verge of being overcooked and the sauce was average at best. The chef must have had an off day or a day off. We will go back because all of our other meals have been excellent."

  • "This restaurant's setting is beautiful and intimate. Closely packed candlelit tables, dark grey interior. Very sophisticated. But the food seemed a little mismatched with the setting. The food was seasoned well, but portions and balance was way off. How can a calamari appetizer be enough for 2 people's dinner? The entrees were nice - especially the lamb - but yet again, huge plates. I mean this literally... The size of the physical plates were so big that ours had to hang off the edge, with water glasses, wine glasses and bread plates also on our two top. The front of house team was wonderful though and we shouldn't forget that :)"

  • "A very pleasant place to meet a friend for lunch, without having to shout to be heard! Lots of good choices for lunch, & friendly atmosphere."

  • "Have been to Garibaldi's many times. On 2/24/14 our experience was terrible. 1. Noise level so loud conversation was impossible 2. We had a table for two. Next to us another table for two-midway thru our meal a third (and rude) person joined the two next to us. Climbing over my wife, almost sitting on her-no "excuse me" or apology, proceeded to dominate their table and ours with loud conversation. It was so bad we left before finishing our meal. We will not come back."

  • "Departing from my usual Garibaldi's selections, I decided to eat a bit lighter and chose several sides including grilled cauliflower and specially prepared green beans. It proved my long-held conviction that a real test of a great chef includes what they can do with vegetables. Every bite drew a smile. I recommend you try this on your next visit."

  • "The lovely dining space was packed on a Thursday evening. It took a long time for the drinks to arrive, for the appetizers to arrive, for the main course to arrive. Once it arrived, the food was very good, especially the lentil soup and the grilled salmon. My husband said his filet steak was a good cut of meat but he had ordered it to be "red" and the waiter - for some mysterious reason - thought that description meant medium rare rather than rare. The noise level is too high but otherwise it is a very nice restaurant."

  • "This is the sixth time I've eaten at Garibaldi's. I've never been disappointed with it. It's my favorite place to take friends from out of town who are looking for a great, authentic San Francisco restaurant. It's also our go-to "event" restaurant. On my recent visit, I had orechiette with duck ragu and a warm kale salad. Both were unusual and superb. Keep it up!"

  • "Because you can hear in this cozy neighborhood spot. Food and service terrific !"

  • "Decent salads. Very good soup. Sandwiches too large to bite into and flavored poorly."

  • "No major surprises but just a solid meal and ambience. The prix fixe menu for valentines was very well done."

  • "A lovely room in Pacific Heights that attracts the lovely people from the surrounding neighborhood. So generally well dressed and well behaved clientele, sans children, and tolerably low noise level. The atmosphere exudes San Francisco elegance. As for the food, rice croquettes were warm inside but surrounded by a tomato sauce that had cooled off to the point of being cold. Duck ragu orrechiette was heated throughout but lacked when it came to seasoning -- perhaps that Pacific Heights crowd are whiners about everything having too much salt. One's dinner companion raved about her lamb, but to me it tasted a bit overcooked, with that telltale texture that says ice crystals were here. Service was very professional."

  • "The food was thoughtfully presented and when asked to set up as share our server was firm but accommodating. The wine list for more diverse pinot noirs by the glass was limited"

  • "Dining experience- poor Noise level too loud- can't even hear the waiter- much less the other two people at the table Food continues to be over oiled and very heavy Too many really good restauants in San Francisco to consider dining here again"

  • "Garibaldi's has great food, huge portions and is an excellent value for the money. You should share a main and have a couple of starters. The wait staff are pleasant and if you make a special request they actually listen. It's a wonderful spot and they are consistently good. I'd eat there any time. It's a happening spot. The only draw back is the tables are a bit tight and if you're next to a loud group it can be a bit noisy."

  • "Came to eat before an event so it was early - 5:30 on a Sunday. Place was hopping! We ordered cocktails, then instead of a full meal had multiple appetizers and starters. Six dishes in all, and all were spectacular. Service was excellent, we were asked how we wanted the dishes brought out and everything was well paced. Will definitely return!"

  • "We dined here at the recommendation of a friend, and were not disappointed. We had the Garibaldi salad and the seafood, both of which were excellent. My dessert (huckleberry sundae?) was outstanding."

  • "Noise level was a bit high in the front room, food was delightful, except for the braised short ribs. Waitress was non-existent, not much help when asking her about the in edible short ribs. Wasn't surprised when the bill came back full charge for said ribs that were sent back. Dinner at this place could be a wonderful experience if you get the right server."

  • "Garibaldi's was a good, but perhaps unremarkable restuarant. Seive was very good. My friend and I did notice that we felt like the youngest people in the restaurant. Depending on your perspective this could be a good thing - they seem to cater to a mature clientel. Average age range the Saturday night I was there seemed to be 40 - 50."

  • "Went for the DAT menu which is usually very good with wonderful choices. This time there were two pasta dishes, a fish stew and chicken in panko.....no meat dishes or any interesting first courses.....I ordered the salad which was good but I guess I am spoiled and want something to really rave about.....didn't happen. Bring back a more creative even for the DATers who may come back soon! Good but I expected more....."

  • "The flavoring of many dishes is weak and uninteresting. The sandwiches are hard to bite into. You have to practically cut them up and eat small bites at a time. Salads do much better."

  • "What a great find through Open Table. It was a 3-day weekend for me and the better half, so we wanted to make sure we celebrated at a great restaurant. We don't know much about Pac Heights, but it was fantastic that we found Garibaldi's. Service was great, always attended to our needs and was very polite. The food was phenominal. The menu consisted of a lot of Italian, but with some creative spins on them (i.e. feta mousse). We enjoyed it a lot. There was a fantastic wine list, and the bar was filled with a lot of people. We really enjoyed the ambiance and had a fantstic time. I would recommend Garibaldi to all my friends looking for a great place to experience quintessential San Francisco dinning."

  • "Anniversary meal with my wonderful wife. Asked for a special table in the open table notes and was seated in a very crowded section with a pole next to the table - I asked the waiter if we could move to a more quite spot and he quickly ushered us upstairs where we had a much nicer dining experience - food, atmosphere, service, all was delightful."

  • "Really average in just about all respects. Appetizers arrived in an instant, before the wine. Tasty risotto quenelles, tuna meatballs (close your eyes and try to guess)were barely warmed up. Kale salad was OK, pasta dish with wild mushrooms had no noticeable flavor."
