Diner Reviews
  • "What a beautiful setting. Absolutely spectacular. Unfortunately, the food was just okay. We had their specialty Crab and Shrimp Salad with the famous green goddess dressing. We did not like the dressing. We were definitely disappointed. Scoma's crab louie is so much better. The wine list here was limited, bias towards sparkling wines, and overpriced. The pinot gris that we had also tasted poor. The dessert we had was excellent. We had the dark chocolate cake with dark chocolate and orange ganache and Tahitian vanilla creme anglaise. This restaurant needs to update their menu, update their wine list and not live on their past glory."

  • "Although it's probably been at least 10 years since I've been there, I had such fond memories of superb service and excellent food, those memories were not rekindled. The ambiance, decor and total feeling of being someplace special still existed, however, I was quite disappointed in my Spicy Shrimp Salad. Due to digestive issues, I requested low spice. Our waiter assured me that it was only lightly spiced which turned out to be quite untrue. The prawns were large and succulent, but the salad, mostly chopped ice berg lettuce, and slightly wilted, was indeed spicy. This was corroborated by my dining companion who ordered the same thing and found it too spicy for her taste as well. Once the food appearaed we never saw the waiter again."

  • "My last visit to the Garden Court for Sunday Brunch was nearly 20 years ago. My memories of the experience heightened my anticipation of returning for a special brunch with my fiancee. I have to say that the Garden Court is a magnificent brunch experience. The setting is very grand, the service is impeccable and the food is very good. The wait staff are extremely professional and friendly. There are ample varieties of food from fresh seafood to sushi and all of the breakfast items that you would expect. Be sure to allow yourself ample time to relax and enjoy the experience. You will not be disappointed."

  • "Good food, live music and beautiful room. The Palace Hotel is a grand old building."

  • "While prices have increased, the more exotic offerings such as caviar have been eliminated, people were packed like sardines, and at one point there were virtually no deserts, the Garden Court continues to rank highly for special occasion brunches."

  • "I lunched with a friend recently and we had a wonderful conversation, surprisingly tasty chicken sandwiches and attentive service. For many years the food was mediocre although the atmosphere was always wonderful. The past two times I have had lunch at the Garden Court, the food has been as good as the atmosphere. The portions are very generous, too."

  • "Service was very good and a beautiful room. However, the food was fair to poor, over priced and small portions."

  • "This is the number one brunch spot in San Francisco. The location is as grand as could possibly be with a large open room reminiscent of The Louvre - high arched glass and marble columns throughout. The food was wonderful both in variety and quality. I've been to restaurants all over the world, Paris, Rome, Moscow, London, Lyon, and many more. This one was one of the best. Bottom line, the friend I took, who is the most classy, most refined person I have ever met, had tears in her eyes because the experience was so wonderful. And it wasn't just her. I have to say I've never seen so many happy people in a restaurant. It was an experience. If you are looking that special place - this is it."

  • "We recently enjoyed the breakfast buffet at the Garden Court. The food was delicious - nice varieties of pastries, cold dishes, fruit, and the hot selections, although fairly standard, were prepared and presented beautifully. The cheese blintz's were wonderful!! The ambiance is outstanding, and if one knows the history of the Garden Court it adds another dimension to the setting. The server we had, EDGARDO, was delightful. Very attentive, always ready with coffee refills, but not hovering. Another important aspect for us, is that although the room is very large and seats a lot of people, the noise level was low. It is a most relaxing dining experience, perfect for any special occasion. • "The Garden Court is a huge, high-ceiling room seating dozens, but the ambiance is such that you feel that all of that goes on is for you and those in your party. The escalator at the west end of Montgomery Station takes you right to the hotel doorway."

  • "We ate here because of the history associated with the hotel. The food and service are nothing special, which is a shame because it could easily be bumped up a couple of notches to give a stellar experience - the way the Palace was once famous for!"

  • "Recently invited several out-of-town guests for a lunch at the Garden Court. The ambiance is terrific, the food is wonderful, and the service is superb. Not the trendiest place in town, but a real classic that deserves not to be overlooked. "

  • "As a local San Franciscan, I've dined at the Ritz, Four Seasons, Fairmont, Campton Place for brunch. My sister and I decided to try it out before making reservations for Xmas Brunch, which our parents are anticipating. We will not be coming back here. We were so hungry and excited for the meal, but that soon dissipated as we waited 15 minutes for someone to offer us drinks (sparkling wine) and provide silverware. The food was subpar, a disappointment considering the cost. The seafood "chef", who looked disheveled, came out to "check" on the food. I lost my appetite and thought I'd get sick from eating the raw seafood. Dessert looked like something from safeway. I was only paying to sit below the stained glass ceiling and bottomless wine."

  • "I've been there several times over the years for their Sunday brunch. I went back and found many things have downgraded. There used to be a three-piece band; now it's a pianist. The scrambled eggs were hard and I so looking forward to soft-scrambled eggs. It's what I enjoyed most. The sea bass was overcooked sitting in the chafing dish; so was the cooked salmon. I used to be thrilled about the food but not anymore. I used to tell friends how delicious and abundant the food was; but not anymore. I wish I could give it a five-star rating but not anymore. I really do."

  • "This brunch never disappoints me in all my 59 years. From service to ambiance to the best variety of food. But the best in taste is the winner. It is pricey so I do treat it as a special occasion brunch. "

  • "There's no other place like the Palace Sheraton for Sunday brunch. I only come here for special occasions since it costs more than dinner at a fancy restaurant. However, you cannot beat the ambience, food selection, and overall experience of the Palace."

  • "I started to write a full review but went over allowed characters, so I'll be brief. I give this a 2 1/2 out of 4. The food ranged from OK to excellent. But my entree was not really hot. We asked for dessert menu when entree was cleared, waited 20 minutes to have order taken, explained we were in a hurry since we were going to ballet, waiter said it was all ready. 10 minutes later we cancelled dessert order since we had to go. I'd rate higher if this was half the price but when I pay $150 for lunch I want more than acceptable, I want excellent. We didn't get it. Attractive place, food variable, service questionable - not understaffed and I can't explain why we could not get anyone to take our dessert order. Will write full review on yelp."

  • "Beautiful if not spectacularly so, but that's about it. Food is lackluster in taste and presentation. Service is slow. Go here once for the experience but be prepared to pay lots for just the ambiance."

  • "Edgardo, who was my server, at some point during our lunch, forgot about my wife and I. I had to ask the bus girl to bring us some soft drinks. I wonder if Edgardo got annoyed by this action because, when I ask for my chocolate cake, he answer in a tone of voice like if, he was being bothered. It was my birthday and, as a guest, I expected to be treated respectfully and nice."

  • "We were totally disappointed - we thought we were going for the brunch but the brunch did not start until 11:00 and we made reservations for 9:30 - there needs to be some sort of information on Open Table regarding that - when an 11 am reservation was not available I made a reservation for 9:30 assuming I was reserving the same type of meal - we were schocked to find out that it was not brunch at all - just a completely sub-standard breakfast buffet. It would be nice of Open Table to alert diners to that."

  • "It was very early in the morning and I brought my client and colleague here for a breakfast meeting. It is absolutely beautiful inside. The price for the breakfast buffet seemed crazy, but it is inside a hotel, so probably normal. Great ambiance, good food, really lovely!"

We ordered off the menu and didnt do the buffet but it also looked amazing. My daughter drank her oj out of a wine glass and thought it was soooo cool. She even asked to go back for her Birthday!!:)"

  • "My husband and I went for breakfast over valentines weekend just to do something special. The early buffet was $34 per person. The food was fine but truly just average. Similar to a nice marriott or embassy suites with slightly better selection. However the room is fantastic. The atmosphere alone is worth going!"
