Garde MangerThe experience was fantastic. The experience was fantastic. The food was good. Excellent service ....and special meals !!12/3/2013 12:00:00 AMUnaccomodating serviceThe food was excellent accompanied by a beautiful ambiance. However, the service was disappointing. We were a group of 4 from TO so I understood that the language could be a bit of an issue but our waitress spoke good English so I assumed we won't have any issues. After I clearly pointed to the selection of pork on the board, she brought us fish! I was pretty upset since my uncle is not a huge fan of fish but she refused to do anything about it. I said that I would like her to bring us what I ordered but instead she said that she read the order in French back to us and we didn't correct her! How could I? I don't speak French & said pork several times, she said she understood. I expected for her to correct her mistake but she didn't.9/4/2013 12:00:00 AMpicked for wedding anniversarypicked for wedding anniversary to change from always a romantic restaurant and love it
food was excellent very nice staff and enjoyed the ambiance prices were a bit more expansive then average but all worth it :)
thank you for the great time and food9/3/2013 12:00:00 AM5 stars just isn't enough!Oh my...BEST short ribs the BF EVER ATE IN HIS LIFE!! My pierogies were cooked so perfectly well that the creamy filling melted in my mouth along with the morsels of the very first pork belly I ever ate...the crusty edges of the pasta made the dish. From beginning to end, our experience with the wait service was astonishing. Ever present but not at all intrusive, staff clearly love what they do. We were chastised for not alerting that 2 of our party had to cancel at the last moment...but they made up for it by seating us 45 minutes early (we were prepared to rest a while at the bar). Atmosphere is warm and lush, music-spot on, wait staff ever alert, and menu incomparable for variety and balances nicely when sharing. Special in ALL ways.7/4/2013 12:00:00 AMThe honeymoon is over.I go there a couple times a year since I live close-by. This time my experience was ok, but I have to admit that everytime I go there it's always a little bit less good as the time before. This use to be my favoritte restaurant, the one I was always telling others about, but it seems to be over. Food, was OK, but not awesome like it used to be...some changes on the menu are not as appealing as the ones that made Garde Manger what it is. Anyway, it's still good, but it's not great anymore.6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMTop 5 in MtlPerfect date night! The bavette was incredible and the bloody cesar too!6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome spot!We reserved a spot at Garde Manger 30 days out. The food was fresh, and vibrant. A great selection of food, and drink, and an energetic atmosphere. Will be back for sure.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic ambiance and seafood!Well first off, the Caesars were incredible! They came with a crab leg that was also the best crab I have ever had. I highly recommend the fresh seafood platter with oysters, salmon, and crab. It was so fresh!!! And this is coming from a frequent visited of PEI. The staff were so helpful and it was fancy, but also hip and casual. The staff were young but very knowledgable of everything on the menu and all the wines and drinks. It was my best dining experience of my life. It's the whole package!!5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome waitressGreat recommendations from the waitress...Awesome Ceaser...Fresh scallops on the shell....lobster poutine...sweetbreads!
What a great meal. We will be back!5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMAn Enjoyable Grad DinnerWent for a 9:15 dinner for four. Our server was friendly and very knowledgeable. He proposed that he serves us a series of dishes of his choosing starting with a seafood platter, then following with six additional dishes. All of them were interesting and delicious. We had tastes of octopus, sausage, sole, scallops, and many other delicious ingredients. The food, in general, is different, hearty and tasty.
The only concerns are the lack of lighting that made it too dark to read the English blackboard, the loud music (which we asked to turn down in order to hear ourselves talk, and the slightly long wait time for food.
Overall fantastic experience, however.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, attentive staffGreat food, attentive staff and service is quick! Ideal for a night out with friends or to celebrate a special occasion.5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding ExperienceMy partners and myself have been watching Chuck's show for quite a while and were so excited to have a chance to taste his food. This meal was the high light of our two week adventure! Everything was amazing from our server, who was so attentive and friendly. To the food, which was out of this world. If you have the time and the love of amazing food, I would highly reccomend visiting Grande Manger.5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic restaurant! After trying to get into Garde Manger for some time, I was finally able to secure a booking for a recent trip to Montreal. My husband and I loved it (he claims its his favorite over Au Pied de Cochon and Le Club Chasse et Peche). The food was fantastic and the service helpful but it was most wonderful for the lively, welcoming atmosphere. Cannot wait to dine again!5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat mealA little pricey but worth it for the food and experience. Enjoyed lobster poutine, jerked crab, pork and cod, short rib, brownie and profiteroles! All delicious!5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMOverall amazing. I went withOverall amazing. I went with friends to celebrate the end of the school year and we started off with the lobster poutine (since it's famous) and it was delicious! A bit small for the price and to share between 4 but definitely tasty. For my main I had the scallops with gnocchi in carrot butter and frankly no meal will ever be good enough for me now that I've tasted this one. The scallops were perfectly seared. The gnocchi was not the traditional Italian style but nonetheless it was incredible. I've never tasted food with so many layers of flavour. Definitely recommend!!!!5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMCame all the way to GardeCame all the way to Garde Manger from Hamilton, Ontario. It was undoubtedly some of the best food I have ever eaten. We started with the perogies with pork belly confit and housemate sour cream- and they were amazing!! The fig cake for dessert was to die for. A must try is the vanilla-maple lemonade.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMQuality Everywhere at Garde MangerThe food and service both strike a difficult balance between relaxed, adventurous and carefully rendered. With old Montreal providing the setting and ample crowds, Garde Manger should be a favorite for anybody that appreciates great food and Montreal.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing! As usual. ServiceAmazing! As usual. Service was great, food was phenomenal and music was super fun.
The manager even took the spine out of our turbot for us. Very impressive.
I took my two friends from Newfoundland after raving about it and they were not disappointed.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMHidden GemAs dedicated foodie fans of the Canadian culinary legend Chuck Hughes, we booked a month in advance to ensure our spot. As the cab driver dropped us off we weren't sure what was in store behind the unmarked door and black curtain. Once inside the set of our favourite foodie shows opened up before us. Service, food & ambiance was top notch! We started off with the Lobster poutine & fresh oysters, coupled by an awesome caesar (with crab legs!), then headed straight for the main with braised short ribs & scallops, gnocchi & carrot butter. Although already stuffed, dessert with a decadent brownie topped with homemade marshmallow & ice cream. If you ask nicely, you can even have your picture with the kitchen rock stars! Awesome night!!!5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMInterestingRun by award winning chef, Chuck Hughs, the creativity of his work is interesting to note. Many of the courses were his signature dishes he used to battle Bobby Flay on Iron Chef America. Some of the dishes such as the Cesar cocktail was just plain silly and tasted purely of excess vodka; other appetizer dishes were also mediocre. However, certain courses such as the perogies, pork liver sausage, and the lobster risotto were quite satisfying. It wasn't that the tastes were spectacular, it was that the mixture of the individual tastes and fragrances was very creatively presented and a delight to experience. The richness of the meals were also a delight to enjoy, especially the risotto, which despite its small portion, could really stuff you.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMNoth'in but Chuck's!Great atmosphere, if your a foodie this is the place always something new to try and the experience never leaves you wanting. Service is always extremely helpful and professional. Only thing would be music is on the loud side especially if your eating at the later seating (9:30).5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding but a bit overpricedOur evening at le garde manger was amazing but i would not recommend the restaurant to most of my friend because of the price of a dinner ! Because there is no "table d'hote" choice, the meal can get quite expensive quite fast !
The ambiance though was outstanding and the service was perfect ! Nice advices from the waitress about her recomendation !
Very nice evening !5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMVery Good MealGreat menu with many creative items. Asian fusion meets quebec-french classic. Desserts and bar drinks are outstanding. Only issue - NO KIDS ALLOWED - so hire a baby sitter.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMdue to the fact that olderdue to the fact that older ones may not appreciate loud music, the music was too loud for me. Also, I think a written menu
would be more classy, than one written on the blackboard.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMMmmm carrots.I had the scallops and gnocchi in carrot butter. I wasn't really a fan of cooked carrots, but cooked this way I could eat them everyday! So delish! The staff was great and you could really tell that they were a family and loved going to work. Great place.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMYummmmmFood was amazing made with simple ingredients (how can butter and carrot sauce taste soooo good?). Random music but awesome, loved the ambiance. Only thing was that it was a little expensive so I wouldn't be able to eat there as often as I like, but it was definitely worth the experience. Great food, great service, overall great time!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat night out.Garde Manger is simply amazing. The food, service and ambiance were top notch. We could not find a fault with the restaurant even if we tried. We went with friends and their reaction was much like ours...possibly the best dining experience ever!!!!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMFantasticThis was the second time I had my birthday dinner at this restaurant, and it was just as good the second time around. The staff are friendly and courteous, the atmosphere was great and the food (as always) was amazing!!!
You cannot go wrong when going to this restaurant!!5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazingIt was our first time to eat at the Garde Manger and it won't be our last time. We were just two of us and they sat us at the bar in the back and it was perfect. We got to interact with the bartender / waitress and amazing oyster shucker. Staff was friendly and very knowledgeable. Now the food, AMAZING!!! We had to start the lobster poutine and the oeuf mimosa crab fried oyster. Both delicious! Then we shared the braised rib with crunchy vegetables. Better than we could have imagined. A taste buds delight! We have eaten in many restaurants, but the atmosphere, the staff and the food made it the best place we have been to so far. You have to reserve a month in advance and I know now why. AMAZING!!!5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMWorth the flight!I flew in from Halifax to meet my husband who was already in Montreal for a conference. One night for the express purpose of going to Garde Manger. Worth every penny! It was probably the finest meal we've ever had and we have dined extensively in Toronto, Quebec and throughout the Maritimes, as well as in Europe. Lobster poutine, tuna tartare, trout stuffed with oysters, lobster risotto, housemade brownie! Amazing! Our server was fantastic and we loved the music and the overall vibe. Eclectic mix of diners added to the ambience.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMA little to noisy on the musicA little to noisy on the music level...we couldn't talk to each other5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMOH WHAT A NIGHTWe went on a Sunday which is supposed to be much quieter, and for that I am grateful :) Food was exciting and new as well as delicious, the service exceptionally friendly and enthusiastic. Great relaxed atmosphere. Wonderful evening out.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMVisiting Montreal for theVisiting Montreal for the first time in years, I was so excited to try this restaurant and it did not disappoint! The food was amazing! And I haven't never been to a restaurant where all the staff truly seemed to love their job. The service was impeccable! We loved everything about this restaurant and will back the next time we're in Montreal.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AM
