Diner Reviews
  • "Very adequate. Food was OK but I am wondering if Garces has lost its creative edge. The duck salad was bland and served with hot potato filler that wilted the lettuce and made the entire dish mushy. Pasta dishes seemed to be made with pasta that stuck together as if it had been cooked the prior day. The service was exceptional and the staff friendly. The change from BYOB to a $15.00 corkage fee is annoying. $300 dinner for four left me feeling a bit taken advantage of. Many other exceptional restaurants to try before returning to Garces. Reservations are now easy to get."

  • "Although the food was wonderful, the noise level in the restaurant was unbearable. We were told that they were considering some attempts at sound attenuation."

  • "Wonderful experience. Food was great. Having wine store within the restaurant - excellent idea! Only drawback was my husband wanted the chef tasting menu - but could not have it since I was not partaking that selection. I was fine with what I ordered, and it was as many courses as he would be having. He was going to do the wine pairing with the Chef Tasting; other than that, it was a delightful meal."

  • "Second trip to Garces Trading Company was even better than the first. We had their flat iron steak and duck fat frites. The steak was cooked perfectly, and as a bonus, additional servings are included in the price if the whole table orders the dish. The service was also fantastic; the waiter checked in often and offered good advice on wine and food. However, though very friendly, he was not overbearing. I cannot wait to go back."

  • "After having dined at Tinto twice, i guess we had expected a more casual and somewhat scaled down version of the amazing Tinto experience. While everything we had was good, it certainly wasn't "great" and not rising to that OMFG level we had hoped for. We felt our dinner was a bit overpriced for the meals we had. But the service was great, gracious and welcoming, we had a nice table outside on a pleasant evening and the overall experience was very nice. We sent back a cocktail that was too sweet and the server couldn't have been nicer about it, and it was removed from our bill. The cauliflower appetizer was very good, as was the duck appetizer, but the entrees just didn't rock us like we had hoped. maybe our expectations were unrealistic."

  • "I had been here once before, I believe August 2013, and it was just as good as I remember. The tasting menu is an amazing value."

  • "We made last inure reservations for a group of 8, only possible because of a summer holiday weekend. When asked, they required only a few minutes to accommodate our group outside, and did so in a friendly, efficient manner. (Great, too, because inside was cool and the music loud. Outside we had intermittent traffic noise but could converse without yelling). The service was timely, the waitstaff knowledgeable and helpful. The drinks were great, after a short wait. The appetizers were fabulous. The meals were good. Most of us had pasta, it's consistency suggested it had been waiting a while--probably for the roast chicken. The courses came out a little slow, particularly since the restaurant was not busy. The staff made the meal enjoyable!"

  • "Met a few friends and had a great brunch. Relaxed atmosphere, great cocktails, and very helpful service. Can't beat the duck-fat fries! It was a little noisy but I think that was a restaurant filled with happy customers."

  • "good food, great service, microscopic portions, pricey. Very responsive to allergy needs."

  • "I don't remember the $15 corkage fee for the wine, but still a great spot. Can't say no to bottomless steak frites at $29!"

  • "Last Saturday night my husband and I went to Garces Trading Company for the first time. We have been to 3 other Garces' restaurants, so we had expectations of what this experience should be. Even with our high expectations we were blown away with food and the service. Our waitress was one of the best server we have ever encountered, anywhere. The food, as usual for Garces' establishment, was delicious and unique. We went with the Tasting Menu and each course was better than the one before. We will be back and soon. Now how many more Garces' restaurants do we need to try before we hit them? Luckly for Philly that number keeps growing."

  • "Went here on a whim as its around the corner from my new building. Food was really good and quite reasonably priced. I would gladly go back. They had quite a big bar selection and the menu was extensive including lots of options and 2 different tasting menus."

  • "Came here for birthday dinner with a large group of friends. The staff was very accomodating to our large (annoying) party which is always a good sign that the front of the house knows what they're doing. I enjoyed everything I tried. This is not a typical complaint since I consider myself a (fairly) experienced goer-outer but the portions were a bit smaller... It might be helpful to approach food here with the thought that you're getting tapas to be shared rather than an entree for yourself."

  • "noise level way too loud to carry on a conversation...was a relief to get outside to "hear" again...have not had that problem at lunch...so would go there for lunch again, but probably not dinner..."

  • "While our first visit to Garces was outstanding, our second was disappointing. I know it's not an Italian Restaurant, but some of there other dishes had been so good, I ordered the pasta with clams. Four clams and nothing like clam sauce on the pasta. My friend's chicken was ho hum. Off my list."

  • "The food here is fantastic! Unique, interesting flavors...with a diverse selection. Brought 5 newbies here & they loved it! Food never disappoints!"

  • "We enjoyed the $40 tasting menu: each course was delicious and there was just enough! Our server was very knowledgeable and pleasant. Our only complaint was the noise level. It was very difficult to hear our server as each course was presented and explained. We had difficulty hearing each other across our small table for 2."

  • "I was particularly impressed by the jus on my scallop risotto and the duck confit salad! Also picked up a lovely Blackberry Ginger Balsamic on my way out."

  • "It was our first time at this restaurant and we were very disappointed. It felt like we were eating in a cafeteria. Noise level was off the charts and it was not even packed. Food was very good. But there are many other restaurants in the city that have good food as well. Wont be going back to this Garces establishment."

  • "I wish it were just a tad less noisy.......but the scallops over risotto, divine. Our friend's chicken the best ever. Our guests' lamb chops, perfect. We had a bottle of perseco and the macarons for dessert. Perfect, perfect. We live in the city and have not yet found a great restaurant. This is it!!!!!!!"

  • "A great way to start a Sunday is with the brunch at Jose Garces Trading Company. Quiet and comfortable with a very good prix fixe menu. The service was very good and the staff cheerful and professional. I selected Endive Leaves (good start) and Lyonnaise Duck Salad (great taste and ample portion). For beverage, I selected the excellent Lemon Cintron with blueberry and tarragon. The pastry tray, which included raspberry jelly, was also very tasty."

  • "We opted to sit outside because the weather was great. Unfortunately it was a day of a major parade which took place earlier in the day on the same street, so left over crowds marched past our table constantly as well as the subway line which roared just below us frequently enough to be very distracting. Next time we'll eat inside where it will be quieter."

  • "A charming spot for a light lunch: friendly service, good menu, creative cuisine, tasteful décor. Take a table outside if the weather's right: it's delightful, and the wait staff lets you linger. Five stars!"

  • "I had a dinner here with two girlfriends and it was the perfect spot. The fresh mozzarella was to die for as well as the two flat breads. Don't leave without trying the macaroons!"

  • "When our original plans were botched, we decided to give Garces a try. It was just what we wanted for a late Saturday dinner: a creative menu, well-prepared food, delightful service, nice wine selection, and a great buzz without being overly noisy. What a find! Definitely one for the Philly short list."

  • "We really enjoy this restaurant but will stay away for awhile as the noise level was very uncomfortable for all of us. "

  • "A group of us went for lunch we were greeted with a smile and got seated immediately. The service is always great and I'm never disappointed with any dish I've tried. This visit I ordered the Croque Madame which was AMAZING!! I absolutely love eating here and any opportunity I get I recommend it to others.... You'll never be disappointed. "

  • "We've been here a number of times and have always enjoyed it. Great place to bring out of town visitors. The only problem is that the noise level can get very high, so an evening business dinner may not work so well."

  • "Had to find a quick place to eat early on a friday evening, this was perfect! dinner service was just starting, and apps and dinner were perfect portioned, amazing quality and absolutely delicious! Ate at Amada once before, and hope to try all of the Garces restaurants over the summer! Did to disappoint!"

  • "The food was amazing and the service was prompt. Very much looking forward to dining here again. The restaurant itself was not stuffy; open view throughout."

  • "Visiting from Boston over the weekend and came across Garces trading Company. Great atmosphere, service and food. Joining us were our two kids and though there was no "child menu" our kids had plenty from which to choose. We will definitely come back next time we are in town. The neighborhood was nice as well for a stroll after dinner."

  • "Party of 6. Brought our own big bottle of Beaujolais that complimented the steak frites. We all ordered the unlimited steak and without asking, they would bring us more steak, duck fat fries, and sauces. It was an incredible meal... The party was pleased, service was top notch. I will say, I miss some of the market options around the perimeter. (meats, cheeses, and desserts are no longer there...) The dessert menu was lacking and I was sad remembering a dessert menu of Garces past... but the abundance of steak frites made up for my dessert woes. "

  • "The restaurant was unique in how it does what it does. The food was very good. From my 87 year old father to my 11 year old daughter, we all loved it. The flat breads could have had a bit more substance to them....a bit thin on sausage for example. The service could have been a bit more attentive and the table bussers should be taught not to clear the plates until all at the table have completed their meal. That is one of my pet peeves.....it puts too much presher on those still eating to be hurried along. "

  • "An absolutely delicious Spanish garlic soup was the soup of the day. Would have dined on soup alone if I didn't have to keep appearances of adult responsibility, balanced diet, yard ah, yaddah. The ambience is a bit too operating room sterile, but folks are friendly and helpful. "
