GAONNURInice findPositives: Swank decor, fabulous view, great service, fun to have food cooked at your table
Negatives: Charged same price for veg version of scallion pancakes without the meat/shrimp as the meat version, also veg version of one of the bibimbap dishes was actually more that a couple of the meat versions6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMamazing food - and viewThe title says it all - wonderful dinner accompanied by the breathtaking view made the visit to gannouri quite special.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMWOW.. A very nice view of NYCExcellent services... From the moment you walk into the lobby (friendly) to the top of the office building 39th floor. Our reservation was on Saturday 6/1 at 6:00pm. We were about 10 minutes early, check in with the maitre d' and waited at the bar with a drink. Overall, the foods are very comparable and price right for it portion. Will definite be back!6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat BBQ and viewWe started with mandu dumplings and then had bulgogi and galbi bbq with all of the sides, which we cooked pretty quickly at our table. We thoroughly enjoyed the side dishes as well (and refills of the side dishes). Everything was fresh and tasty, and authentic Korean (I lived in Korea for 2 years). I particularly loved their kimchi and radish side dishes. The waiter brought over the wine director to help us select a bottle of wine, which I really appreciated. The only thing that stressed me out was the lecture about my footwear. Our dinner was at 5:30 pm and I was told I couldn't go in with my dressy, beaded sandals. I was about to go and buy shoes at JCPenny nearby, when the hostess agreed to let me up. So be sure to dress up.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMKorean BBQFantastic roof-top restaurant.
Excellent food and service was outstanding!
Will be back when i next visit NYC5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat! If you want to live to see, you must go to GAONNURI. A wonderful view to the skyline of Manhatten. At the lounge for waiting respective to finishing the night, our neighbor was the empire state building. Our dinner was exotic but tasteful. This visit rounded our trip to New York.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat view!Food is great, service is friendly and the view is amazing! Went for a graduation celebration and really enjoyed! Highly recommended!5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMTraditional Korean BBQ......noTraditional Korean BBQ......no fuss....no muss. The Bulgogi was top notch, all side dishes were savory. This place rivals any of the BBQ joints I have eaten at before, to include high end restaurants inside South Korea.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing Food with a viewThe food is always spot on, the service is genuine, attentive and balanced and the view just can't be beat. 39 floors up, you have a full view of the world's best city as you eat top-notch Korean food. A must for dinner for two, entertaining clients, or bringing someone for the first time. This is the place.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, a stunning viewWe visited Gaonurri on the first night of a trip to NYC. We flew in from the UK and were quite tired when we arrived for dinner (that 5 hour time difference gets you!) but the experience moren than compensated for the jet lag. This was our first experience of Korean food and it was great, packed with flavours and the table barbecue added to the fun. The service was excellent, the prices fair and the view of Midtown Manhattan stunning Don't forget to ask for a table with a city view!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMSpectacular viewThe view at Gaonnuri is everything it is cracked up to be. Fabulous view of the West Side, sleek premises. Contrary to some reports, the waitstaff is young, attractive, and gracious as well. The food is good, portions a trifle small, and yes, on the overpriced side, but if you don't have appetizers, and share the Baked Alaska (terrific dessert!), the prices become reasonable. Do order at
least something to grill at the table, and ask for a window view!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic Night with FriendsGreat service, Amazing food and Upscale atmosphere. The pork short rib is a must.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMThe view!!This place is amazing simply for the view!!! Can sit there for hours, the food is good, nothing to get too exited about, but definitely good.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMI have had the best KoreanI have had the best Korean food ever in New York City at Gaonnuri!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat foodAwesome high-quality Korean food, great ambiance with a spectacular view, not cheap but not super expensive. Really good bbq.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Korean with Fantastic ViewGaonnuri was a very solid experience. First off, being on the 39th floor is a jaw dropper. Surprisingly easy to get a reservation, maybe because it was a Tuesday night. Great decor and design. Service is 8/10. Food is okay. Very decent but nothing blew me out of the water. Korean food just hasn't hit cuisine level yet in my opinion. Good time overall.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMSpecialI've had lunch and dinner here. My guests have all been very impressed. It is comfortable yet elegant, appropriate for business and personal dining. The food is upscale Korean- really very finely prepared and delicious. The view is outstanding. Even when very busy the tables are well spaced so you can enjoy the buzz and never overhear your neighbor's conversation or feel intruded upon. The staff is polite and attentive, never pushy and not an ounce of arrogance. It is one of my favorite places.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing viewStunning views of the city set the scene... Call before and make sure you get a table by the window (and with a BBQ if you want that). We had dumplings and korean BBQ for 3 people. Dumplings were good, nothing exceptional. The BBQ was very nice, the marinated short ribs were amazing, otherwise I would say the food was not extraordinary but a fun way to eat and tasty. Had the snickers bar for dessert, which was very nice! Service very quick and nice!
Would absolutely recommend going there5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMKorean with a ViewGaonnuri is a real find. Whether or not it is the best restaurant in Koreatown i leave to experts in that cuisine. But it's terrific, and the reason one comes to Gaonnuri is some combination of food, ambiance, and especially the stunning view from the 39th floor. It's like being perched in a particularly elegant eagle's nest. Because it's on 32nd St. there is a stupendous close up view of the Empire State from the bar, and the entire main dining area is surrounded by views, north, east and west. Sunset is particularly lovely. The food, once again, is terrific. I had the tartare, which if ordered large is a softball size lump of exquisitely seasoned beef. The mushroom dish we ordered was also great, as were Korean staples like Galbi.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMNice view, good food, butNice view, good food, but the services is fair. We were a group of 6, booked a day before, still on time and we waited about 30 min. for your table.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing view, not many rooftopAmazing view, not many rooftop restaurant in NYC. Amazing location, amazing staff, amazing FOOD!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic!!Went for dinner. Everything about this place is extremely pleasant. Service with a smile is very efficient, attentive and professional. The food is just great. Our dumpling and glass noodle appetizers were both delicious and very flavorful. The 60 dollar barbecue platter was perfect for 2 people and was wonderful. Wow, did I love that brisket and marinated short ribs. The Black Forest Baked Alaska was a real show stopper and a perfect end to a great dinner. Oh, may I add that the room and the view were fabulous, too!!4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMMy second time here and theMy second time here and the service again was very good. The food is not exactly the best Korean you are ever going to have but the view really is amazing and when you combine it with the good service, you are happy to pay that little bit more than other Korean restaurants.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMI was looking to impress aI was looking to impress a great friend for his birthday and he was wowed the minute we took the elevator to the Penthouse floor. We arrived right when the sun was setting over the Hudson. Service was very attentive, food was delicious. The sesame sauce for the pork belly was special, bulgogi perfectly marinated, deserts were out of this world. We ordered the baked alaska and the snickers. The deconstructed snickers was a perfect blend of crunchy, chocolate and salty. SO many places in this town that have fantastic views fail to deliver on food. Gaonnuri nails both.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat a delightful experience. What a delightful experience. Great food, service and environmen.t4/8/2013 12:00:00 AM2 friends and i had a great2 friends and i had a great time there. i reserved ahead, received an email reminder the day before, and was warmly received when i arrived. we each had a glass of wine (generously poured) and the kalbi box lunch which was very tasty. tho the banchans were meager, they brought us extra portions upon request. the service is great, the view spectacular, the decor minimalist and trendy, and the music upbeat but serene. even tho we stayed for almost 2 hours, the staff was cordial and professional. tho we usually go to more moderately priced places closer to the ground, this was a special and very enjoyable experience. i would recommend it highly!4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went to Gaonnouri the lastWe went to Gaonnouri the last Saturday to celebrate my wife´s birthday and the experience was really exceptional. Service, food, ambiance and a great view to the city. Definitively I would recommend it to my friends.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMWill visit again.Staff was accommodating and friendly. Food was some of the best Korean I have ever had. Portions were a bit smaller than other choices in Korea Town, but here you pay for the view in addition to the food.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMGaonnuri has a pleasant barGaonnuri has a pleasant bar area to have a drink if you arrive early to your reservation. The views are stunning and the food was delicious. Our server was quite pleasant and we really enjoyed ourselves. Will come back with friends!3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMGaonnuri rises above KoreaGaonnuri rises above Korea Town, just steps from Penn Station, Macy's - offering
excellent Korean fare plus an incomparable view of the city. Our waitress told us the BBQ was only enough for 2 (maybe 2 with huge appetites)...so we ordered tongue and duck breast, both excellent (but way too much meat!).3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMThere are plenty of KoreanThere are plenty of Korean restaurants in the neighborhood but you can't beat the view.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing views and awesomeAmazing views and awesome food as well. Make sure you order the BBQ and leave room for dessert, they are my absolute favorite. The Snickers bar and Pear desserts are the best and I always order madelines to go as well.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMRoom with a viewViews from atop the 39th floor in this koreatown high rise is worth going to check it out. The food is less desirable and some dishes are bland and left much to the imagination. Kudos to the waiter who made the experience worth it by adding history and culture to the meals. However there are better Korean dives at a fraction of the cost that will satiate ones appetite. Your basically paying for their penthouse floor rent and not for the culinary experience.3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMSpectacular view of midtownSpectacular view of midtown Manhattan. The 39th floor provides a great perch from which to feel above it all. Food was elegant and tasty. Each dish was artfully presented and delicious. Galbi meat was juicy and tender. Deconstructed desserts were intriguing and tasty. Waitstaff was attentive without being invasive.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for K-Town first-timers...Went with some koreatown first-timers, and they were blown away... Great service, even better food. The short rib was amazing. The Soju varieties also, were fantastic. And nothing beats the view... Great romantic spot, get a table by the windows if you can.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had dinner at GaonnuriWe had dinner at Gaonnuri at sunset. The view was breathtaking. The noise level was notably low, which combined with the view and decor made for great ambience. The wait staff was attentive, extremely helpful but not overbearing. There was a nice selection of wines and a number of them were reasonably priced. The food was carefully prepared, tasty and nicely presented. I would recommend Gaonnuri without hesitation.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Korean restaurantOne of the best Korean restaurants. We went there last time for tasting menu and this time we had ordered different appetizers, steak and dessert for four of us. We all enjoyed our dishes, specially Black cod, rib eye tartare and petit size Mul naengmyun ( cold buckwheat noodle). If you can get a window table, then dining experience gets much better. The restaurant has a view to die for.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMMy wife and I have limitedMy wife and I have limited experience with Korean food, so choosing a few items from Gaonnuri's dinner menu was difficult. The modum jun pancake sampler and japchae noodles with beef were perfect starters. We recommend these for budget-concious, or portion-watching foodies.
The two entrees were somewhat disappointing in comparison. The Black Cod with spicy sauce had a nice zing and the chicken jjim was above average. The kimchi accompaniment was delicious and all new to our palates.
Service was attentive while some tables were empty, but slowed considerably to our annoyance. after being seated @ 5:30, we barely made it to our 8:00 concert. And that was without dessert or coffee.
That said, we will return for the barbecue!3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMPlace you can't miss out in K-town!Can't miss this breath taking view with authentic Korean dishes in the heart of Korea Town!
The view is amazing, and is great for after work as well as casual dining.
Friendly servers treated the guest well enought to keep the place nice and confortable throughout the dining.
The dishes were amazing starting from appetizers throughout the desert.
Definitelly felt differently from other store level Korean restuaurants on the block.
You will get to taste the real Korean food at the upscale prestigious level with fantastic view!3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful restaurant withWonderful restaurant with a wonderful view. Great value for the money. Service conscientious but not overbearing.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMRomantic Korean ResturantKorean food is one of top choices for food lovers in NYC. However, it wasn't the top pick for a special occasion or romantic moment.
However, you deserve great ambiance at this Korean restaurant!
It has great midtown view from the high-rise building (restaurant is located in the top of the building - 34th FL?)
I went there for lunch and had duck and beef BBQ. I realized that they serve high quality meat. It was very delicious!!
Overall, I think it is reasonably priced considering great ambiance, view, quality of food and services.
highly recommended!3/9/2013 12:00:00 AMHad a great time at Gaonnuri!Had a great time at Gaonnuri! I found out about it on-line but was pleased to find out that a few friends had gone & enjoyed themselves. First impression is the view. 32 floors up, you get a spectacular shot of the city and the Empire State Building. Second, it's a good idea to have a cocktail in the waiting room while taking advantage of the view. Lastly, the food is a delight. I enjoy Korean barbeque & the steak was tasty. Enjoy!2/16/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was extremelly loud. TheIt was extremelly loud. The food was very different. The view was great but older people can not tolerate the noise level.2/15/2013 12:00:00 AMI am a Korean and this placeI am a Korean and this place is hands down the best Korean restaurant in town!12/7/2012 12:00:00 AMWe had the seasonal course. We had the seasonal course. $95/person, a good amount of food, all of which were pretty good. The Snickers bar dessert was way better than the baked Alaska (although the latter was a better photo op). Service was attentive and friendly. The view was not as spectacular as I was expecting but still nice. Would definitely go again.11/29/2012 12:00:00 AM
