  • "Wonderful food in a spectacular setting. The level of spice in the food was perfect. Enough to add to the complexity of the dish, not so much that it was uncomfortable to eat the food. Going during Restaurant Week with the price fixed menu was an added bonus. If there is any negative it is that the drinks, which are inventive and tasty, are slightly over priced."

  • "This was my first experience with Korean BBQ. I don't eat a lot of meat but decided to give it a try, knowing in advance the menu is very meat heavy. The restaurant was highly recommended to me by a friend for the spectacular city views (its on the 39th floor). The food was fantastic, good ambience and killer views. Also our server was friendly and took good care of us. I would recommend going here and have already done so with several friends."

  • "The space is spectacular with expansive views. The presentation and preperation of the dishes is impressive. The service is perfectly attentive. The pancakes are a must."

  • "I am Korean and have grown up eating and cooking traditional cuisine. The food here was great, but is probably the same level of taste and quality as other cheaper Korean restaurants. You are really coming here for the beautiful view and the ambiance. Food presentation was impeccable and the drinks were delicious as well. I am so glad I got to experience Gaonnuri during restaurant week, but would definitely try their regular menu. I also brought non-Korean friends and they were in love with the food and atmosphere as well."

  • "Wednesday night, I went out with the girls for dinner and the restaurant was very accomodating. Half of my group was about 30min late, but the restaurant was very accepting and since I had already checked in, just held our table for us. As we waited for the other section of our paty, my girl and had a couple of Vodka Tonics at the bar. The hand was heavy, and it was much appreciated. It was very tasty. Dinner was great. We all loved what we ordered and enjoyed tasting each other's plates. The service was pretty timely, no excessive gaps to cause us to look for a server. There was a team effort in servicing our table. We had more than one person coming over to check or making sure the meat was properly cooked. I'll be back soon."

  • "Enjoyable lunch with guests. Many lunch sets to choose from (meat to vegetarian to seafood). Nice to take guests, especially for the view. Higher price than most Korean food, but the atmosphere/ view is spectacular."

  • "I had the duck which was good. The wine pairing was not very good. The server spilled water all over my dress and arm but didn't notice until I told him. Later, I had a night cap at the lounge. The server spilled water on me there again. Service needs a lot of work there."

  • "we did not get any service from anyone for 15 minutes after being seated. We flag down a person, but he took off and did not even send anyone. We had to wait until waitress came. For the price they charge, we expected more attentive service."

  • "Restaurant is in not quite finished skyscraper with elevators direct to Gaonnuri...Service good, food somewhat unfamiliar, even for Korean menus, but entire scene lacks warmth and is so impersonal as to leave one glad to leave."

  • "I arrive on the time of my reservations ,the host put me at a booth ,I saw 2 tables at the windows ,I ask for the tables at the window , the host just said No ,not even bother to said you have to make w the reservation . That make me a bad feeling ."

  • "The view was awesome. Service was excellent, We needed a change of scenery and we got it the City looked beautiful. The food left us speechless, everything was exquisite. I would definitely go back and try more delicious dishes."

  • "I actually went for the scenic view rather than the food but didn't get to seated on window despite the request and was told that reservations should have made at least a week before in order to have higher chance of getting window seat. Should have inform that before we got there"

  • "Not impressed with the food, went during restaurant week. The view is spectacular."

  • "So I was apprehensive about ingredients and communicating with staff. NOT A PROBLEM! The staff was incredibly helpful and explained all the dishes with kindness and respect. 2 minor setbacks: the meat in my dish was EXCESSIVELY fatty. I could not eat most of it! And I was not ready for the spice/heat of the dish. Otherwise the whole experience was fantastic!"

  • "Have been here several times and the view is just amazing. Food and service have always been good, but this time we got our table 20 mins late, set for 5 instead of 6 despite a reservation, and stuck right at the back of the room. There was some kind of mixup over place settings and they forgot to bring the mushroom bokkeum, which is our favorite dish. Otherwise OK."

  • "Qutstanding experience for our special occasion. Setting was wonderful and service was excellent without being obtrusive. Wine list provided options. Menu was varied enough to allow for experimentation. Food was well prepared and served timely. Very nice taste profiles. Was very satisfied ad have added Gaonurri to my list of places in the city I will look forward to returning to."

  • "Being up 39 floors in a beautiful penthouse with an incredible view for my 3rd year anniversary with my love was worth every single penny for this place. The food was presented so uniquely and the taste, oh my, so good! I definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to experience good food and an a amazing site at the same time!"

  • "Ask for a window table overseeing north, it is the best view of nyc!"

  • "Place was on the 39th floor. The food was good but I've had better. The place was a little smoky even though no one was grilling."

  • "We had a wonderful dining experience overall. The food was as amazing as the views. The staff was very attentive and friendly. We were sat at a table right by the window and were able to enjoy the spectacular views of NYC and watch the sunset as we dined. The menu has many traditional Korean dishes, as well as some Korean dishes with an American twist. I like really spicy food and many of the dishes had a nice, authentic kick to them. The only issue we had was when it came to ordering dessert. It was Restaurant week, but we had not ordered off the limited Restaurant week menu. However, we were told that the only desserts that were available were the two that were listed on the limited Restaurant week menu, which did not seem fair."

  • "This is a hidden gem that everyone should try. It seems odd that you enter into an office building but one you get to the restaurant..... amazing!"

  • "the food tasted good but certainly not enough, I was still hungry after ordering from summer 2014 restaurant week dinner of pork belly app, rib eye entrée and parfait dessert. I did not realize I had to bbq my entrée which was fine except that our table grill was only half working. the ambience is nice, staff is professional and the view is scenic (though a column obstructed most of the view). I would not recommend because it is located at the heart of koreatown where there are better options for the same price, if not less."

  • "We had much beautiful Korean food ! It was a happy experience with the amazing city night view and delicious food. We especially like the Nak-gi-bok-um (seasoning roasted small octopus) !!"

  • "It was Restaurant Week and the four of us shared the three BBQ offerings plus another dish. All was delicious. And the desserts were gorgeous and tasted as good as they looked. We went there for the convenience to the PATH train and the view so we were even more pleased that the food was so good."

  • "i just wanted to say that after making reservations 5 days in advance, specifically requesting a window table... then reconfirming that i wanted a window table the day before on the phone, and arriving on time, they didn't give us a window table. also THERE WERE MULTIPLE WINDOW TABLES EMPTY when we arrived, and ONE OF THE TABLES REMAINED UNOCCUPIED during the entire duration of our dining experience!"

  • "Food is very good, you should select the meal that you need to have your meet cooked on your private little BBQ. The view is out of this world... A must for any tourist going to NYC."

  • "The server was so attentive that when I wished my sister a happy birthday, she must have overheard. The restaruant surprised us with a birthday desert on the house! That was extra special."

  • "Went here recently for my birthday. Able to get the table I requested (window, of course). View of the Hudson & West Manhattan just breathtaking. The service both at the bar & at the table was courteous & timely. We have little experience with Korean food but it looked appealing & for the most part was tasty. The only comment about the barbequed shrimp cooked in the shell is that it was dry. Perhaps it should be grilled quickly without the shell."

  • "Great Food, Great Service, Amazing view! Great place to entertain or for special occasion. They do let u sit at the table before yr guests arrive which is refreshing! Looking forward to go back soon!"

  • "If you have reservation for 2:00 pm and running a bit late they wouldn't let you in. Restaurant is overpriced."

  • "This restaurant is hard to get to. They post staff at the lobby level to help customers, but the person who was working when I came was unhelpful. She didn't bother to explain that there are only two elevators that get to the restaurant floor, and a special button for those two elevators. Waited five frustrated minutes for elevators that never came down. But once I got to the restaurant, service was efficient. Great views of East River and downtown Manhattan. Unfortunately, food was mediocre. The kimchi--the barometer of quality Korean restaurants--was mediocre. I went during Restaurant Week so I don't know if it's expensive any other time, but I doubt the food is ever worth the price they must need to charge for the real estate."

  • "The view was great, though the windows needed a cleaning. The food was just average..definitely better Korean food available in the neighborhood at better prices. Service was spotty..waited at least 25 minutes between courses. Not sure if there were kitchen timing problems the night we went. They also forgot to bring the rice (which is an additional fee)."

  • "We wanted to try something different for restaurant week and was pleasantly surprised. The food was very good, view from the 39th floor was gorgeous and the service was very attentive. Would go back"
    Dined on 7/22/2014
  • "First of all, I love the penthouse and the scene of Manhattan looking from the window of the 39th floor. I ordered Cod for entrees which was tender sweet and juicy and my friend ordered Bulgogi which was BBQ beef with a lot of side veggies. Overall we like the dinner. I have to say it was worth a try if you really pay attention to the environment. People come in business casual or smart casual which adds to a higher level. However I felt the restaurant week dinner was elegant in portion but just tastes a little bit light to me, which can be a reference if you have also a heavier taste like me."

  • "This was a good place to impress out of town guests. It's a bit pricey, but the views are impressive. They don't really enforce the dress code though, it seems. Food was good and enjoyable. I'm not a Korean food expert but it was all good. Request a window view at sunset!"
