Our group of 4 had a 12:30PM "working lunch" and were seated right away. The on-line reservation tool was appreciated. Our wait staff was punctual, informative and pleasant. The food portions were very satisfying and kudos to the chef for beautiful presentations. We sat next to a window by the railroad tracks and witnessed two trains going by; and found the "ringing of the bell" amusing. We were able to conduct our conversations at a comfortable level, without distraction from surrounding "murmur" and thus felt our voices weren't an annoyance either. They have an upper balcony area which is where we were sat. There were two waiters there and neither were very attentive. I do not spend big money on food often so I was a bit disappointed in the service. Didn't get a great table, but that isn't surprising considering I made the reservation an hour before the reserved time. The table was more than adequate for our needs. Josh was our server and was very attentive. He made solid recommendations on an entree for me and I wasn't disappointed. After I came home and reviewed a number of reviews I saw one review where Josh did not please that reviewer. I can say that Josh was on his game for this reviewer and I would be delighted if he waited on our table again in the future. All in all, the Gandy Dancer lived up to its reputation. I first visited this location when I was a young kid back when it was a working train station. I have special memories from that time. The menu had an acknowledgement to us with our names on it, a very special touch. The food and champagne were excellent. Our server, Devin, was outstanding to say the least. The best goodies on the desert table were the key lime bars, baked oatmeal and the sticky buns (to die for!). We were also invited to join the Landry's club and we did. Since it was my birthday month anyway, once I registered my card, I received $50 in member rewards right away so I guess I will be visiting again in the next few weeks. The service has been slacking the past several times we have eaten at the Gandy.
Our table was difficult to get in to and the tables were placed too close together. There were many empty tables nearby, however a large group was placed about 18" from our table. The staff was just not very aware of the needs of the clients. I asked for water with no ice and it was served with ice. The waiters vest had food stains on it. The first was in the fifth grade and it was for a project, so I didn't get to taste any of the food. The Second time I went, this past Friday, was absolutely amazing to say the least. Not only was the food phenomenal, but so was the service. Our server seemed to genuinely care about us and was very educated about what was on the menu. All too often I have gone to restaurants and the food might have been good but the service was horrible, but this honestly was not the case for the Gandy Dancer, I was concerned about the prices, but after I tasted the food I could see why the prices are the way they are. The food was wonderful - all eight of us were very pleased with our choices - I loved my sea bass, but coveted the "lacquered halibut with a wasabi cream" that my brother was having. We used to go to the Gandy Dancer for special dinners when we were growing up in Ann Arbor. All but one of us has moved away, but it was our first thought for a family reuinion dinner -- and we weren't at all disappointed. It's always a treat to visit Gandy and the staff is always attentive. Dynamite halibut special was excellent; rice was lukewarm.
Server was not very knowledgable about menu, brought out fish and called it mahi mahi vs halibut. Very hard to hear, seemed to mumble. When asked about certain menu items prior to ordering, only could repeat the menu description. Was slow with water, drinks, etc. Manager explained server had just completed training so i'll give them a break.
Overall a good experience.

On the appetizer menu there was a listing for Maryland Crab Cakes (plural). When the order arrived there was only one crab cake on a dinner sized plate. There were three people in our party and we felt that the menu listing should reflect the number of cakes that are in the order or our server could have informed us. We felt that $13.00 was quite steep for one little crab cake. Each time keeps getting better and better! There were 4 of us. From the table, cuisine, and the service, this is by far still one of the best restaurants in the Detroit Metro Area!

Dined Saturday evening April 20th with wife and friend from SF before attending UM musical. Service attentive and in tune with time constraint. My friend and I had three different wines by the glass,very high quality; paired well with food. Wife enjoyed specialty cocktails which were very well crafted. Scallops appetizer hot, tender with the right amount of creaminess and spice; paired well with the Chateau St. Michelle Chardonnay. Had swordfish special, salmon and filet, all perfectly cooked and sauced. Bel Glos Pinot Noir paired well with fish. Pan roasted potatoes were so so and hard, mashed potatoes with filet stiff.
