Food was amazing5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat restaurant but expensive.I would only go to this restaurant for special ocassions but if I had the money I would go weekly.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for a Mother's Day treatWe went here to celebrate Mother's Day, and had a very nice time. My husband thought it was way too crowded, but our daughter and I didn't mind, especially when the train went by. She was thrilled.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect venue for a large groupWe dined at the gandy dancer with a group of ten friends, one of whom uses a wheelchair. The valet parking was a huge plus, the staff was very accommodating, the food was delicious and we were never rushed. It was a delightful and relaxing meal among old friends in a lovely setting. Definitely a place we will return to.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMSince it was a"double" specialSince it was a"double" special occasion it was wonderful to see it printed on the menu ( someone celebrating a dental school graduation and someone else's birthday). Service was impeccable. We were never rushed even though we arrived at different times and my in-laws " lingered" after eating. The New England clam chowder was delicious. The white fish was priced nicely and very tasty. The sea bass was not as fresh as we wanted. Looking to go back for a romantic tucked away spot.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect EveningWe were not celebrating anything. We just wanted to go somewhere different. Searched seafood and fine dining and the Gandy Dancer was one of the restaurants that came up in Ann Arbor. Made the reservation through Open Table, arrived and we were greeted right away and seated at a great table. Our server, Brandon was very up beat and friendly. He made some recommendations that were outstanding choices. Thank you Brandon for your professionalism. We look forward to dining at the Gandy Dancer again!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMThe staff couldn't have beenThe staff couldn't have been more accommodating, in spite of several last minute changes to our reservation and seating assignments. The food was wonderful - all eight of us were very pleased with our choices - I loved my sea bass, but coveted the "lacquered halibut with a wasabi cream" that my brother was having. We used to go to the Gandy Dancer for special dinners when we were growing up in Ann Arbor. All but one of us has moved away, but it was our first thought for a family reuinion dinner -- and we weren't at all disappointed. Fabulous night!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent! The service was excellent & the food was beyond delicious! We will definitely be going back!5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMA unique restaurant with fineA unique restaurant with fine dining on one end and clapping as loud trains come by. I liked the atmosphere although it was a bit dark and noisy. The drinks and service were excellent. The food was good but expected it to be more amazing.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMI had read reviews before.I had read reviews before. We enjoyed the food and the ambience and plan on returning again over the next three years our daughter is epected to be in Ann Arbor at U Mich4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Gandy Dancer is a classicThe Gandy Dancer has been a classic Ann Arbor icon for years. This last sunday a large group of us attended the brunch. There was NOT one bad thing service. Everything was fresh, lots and lots of choices from amazing prime rib to seafood to tradtional breakfast items.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMMNy husband and I enjoyedMNy husband and I enjoyed brunch at Gandy Dancer, as we always do. For some reason this time there was a miscommunication of some sort, as they didn't recognize the name given for our reservation. Nonetheless, it was sorted and we were seated about 10 mins later. Will look to do brunch again.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMOur Waitress, Devon, did anOur Waitress, Devon, did an excellent job of handling a party where members were arriving and leaving at different times. Her service was Outstanding!4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat dining, avoid the valetGreat dining as always. Valet driving our SUV over an island was less impressive. Park yourself!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Gandy Dancer is a delightfulThe Gandy Dancer is a delightful neighborhood gem situated along the train tracks in Ann Arbor...they have a wonderful lunch menu (15 items for under $15) - I highly recommend the crab cakes - they are especially good. It's always a treat to visit Gandy and the staff is always attentive. It is an old building, so there are some 'quirks' but as long as one understands that, they should have a great visit!4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a very pleasant diningWe had a very pleasant dining experience overall. We have only one issue that puzzled us. On the appetizer menu there was a listing for Maryland Crab Cakes (plural). When the order arrived there was only one crab cake on a dinner sized plate. There were three people in our party and we felt that the menu listing should reflect the number of cakes that are in the order or our server could have informed us. We felt that $13.00 was quite steep for one little crab cake. Other than that one thing, we truly enjoyed ouselves!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMUnbelievable ICONIC restaurant!I've been coming here off and on for the past 20+ years (since I was a kid).. Each time keeps getting better and better! There were 4 of us. From the table, cuisine, and the service, this is by far still one of the best restaurants in the Detroit Metro Area!
Our server (Brian) was absolutely amazing! He was engaging and provided great recommendations for each of us on dinner! Sophisticated in his service and a great sense of humor!
Thanks for making the celebration of my parent's birthday's so special!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMSpecial place, food and wineLove historic building, cozy elegant ambiance. Dined Saturday evening April 20th with wife and friend from SF before attending UM musical. Service attentive and in tune with time constraint. My friend and I had three different wines by the glass, very high quality; paired well with food. Wife enjoyed specialty cocktails which were very well crafted. Scallops appetizer hot, tender with the right amount of creaminess and spice; paired well with the Chateau St. Michelle Chardonnay. Had swordfish special, salmon and filet, all perfectly cooked and sauced. Bel Glos Pinot Noir paired well with fish. Pan roasted potatoes were so so and hard, mashed potatoes with filet stiff. Merlot and chocolate desert, key lime pie to die for.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMIt has been awhile since IIt has been awhile since I have had lunch at the Gandy Dancer. Food was fabulous. Service was amazing. Our waiter was very attentive. Omelette station, prime rib, fresh fruit, assortment of salads, baked goods, and typical breakfast fare just tastier. I can't wait to go back!4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMTrain Station CharmThis is a unique place residing in an old train station. The food and service are outstanding.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMSalmon Rockefeller was amazing,Salmon Rockefeller was amazing, but too small and came with plain white rice that was not only boring, but didn't taste good. Lobster bisque was delicious though I would like to see more actual chunks of lobster meat in it. My wife had the chicken marsala and neither of us liked it. Sicilian calamari should be called asian since it was absolutely a chinese dish. The dessert was one of the best I've ever had though I can't recall the name-4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat location, very good foodThe setting really makes this special, but the food was also very good. Slightly upscale in presentation, prices are moderate. I would not call this a family restaurant. Great place with friends, groups, or a special occasion.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMWe have eaten at the GandyWe have eaten at the Gandy Dancer many, many times since it was first established. Would recommend to anyone looking for a night out as a romantic couple.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGandy DancerA converted train station with interesting history and plenty of seating it has an air about it captures local history. Clearly a place for both locals and "out-of-towners" given the university. Selection and choices of seafood bound to fit any palate. List of specials offers additional choice. Diver scallops with quinoa, Grilled salmon on cedar plank and the bouillabaisse were top choices this evening. Fresh baked bread from the oven and attentive service from Devin made a memorable meal even more so.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AM15 Years ago, we celebrated15 Years ago, we celebrated a Romantic Anniversary. Still Great after all these Years. Jeff at the bar makes a PERFECT Martini. And the new male Host (sorry, Don't remember your name), Very personable with a great memory.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMMy parents took me to theMy parents took me to the Gandy Dancer when I attended the University of Michigan and now it is my turn to continue the tradition. The food was very good to excellent. My Salmon Rockefeller was cooked to perfection and my SO's sea bass was very good. My son had his usual steak and my daughter chicken. The restaurant can get a bit noisy which hampered conversation a bit. I highly recommend the restaurant for any special occasion.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMMany large round tables- greatMany large round tables- great for our group of 8. Really enjoyed our dinner!3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMWe originally made our reservationWe originally made our reservation for 4 people but called the day of to increase our party to 10. Brunch is always wonderful. The 12:17 arrival from Detroit passed the Gandy Dancer while we were eating.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat setting and food wasGreat setting and food was outstanding. I hadn't been there in over 20 years and it is better than I remembered. I would pay a couple of $$s more per plate to have them take out a couple of tables. My son and I were bumped and had to slide our chairs in a couple of times to get patrons by...other than slight overcrowding it was a really nice experience.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was excellent but weFood was excellent but we ordered the carrot cake for dessert and it was terrible. Tasted like it was frozed and very dry.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Gandy Dancer is a beautifulThe Gandy Dancer is a beautiful restaurant and was an awesome experience. The food was exquisite and I am definitely interested in dining in again.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent meal. Some selectionsExcellent meal. Some selections were a little pricey but there were enough moderately priced meals to choose from. One of our favorites.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMDining Gem in Ann ArborThe Gandy Dancer is totally unique. It's like eating in another century. A "Gandy Dancer" was an old slang term for the fellows who laid the ties and rails, in the days of steam trains. The building was a Train Station pre-1970, and is built of huge unfinished granite blocks. One dining area (the old baggage room) has the granite exposed on the inner walls as well. There are fantastic stained glass windows in the huge lounge area. The atmosphere is old, solid, maybe dim but in a romantic way. Seafood is the specialty ... with many many great choices. ALL of the food is excellent plus plus. Service is superior, cost is reasonable for fine dining. There's a train perhaps three times a day. Special event? The pastry chef will make a cake!3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Night Out!Had a great time! The service was EXCELLENT! The food was DELICIOUS (Steak and Chicken for the two of us,) and the atmosphere was great for our special occasion. Thanks for a great evening!3/1/2013 12:00:00 AMWe met some old friends forWe met some old friends for dinner to "catch up" and discovered that it was Ann Arbor's Restaurant Week. My wife and our two friends ordered the fixed price specials (salad or soup, entree and dessert) and I had the a small filet. Al;l dishes were prepared excellent and as ordered. My wife's Salmon Oscar was perfectly prepared and my seared Diver scallops were perfect! Soup and salad were also wonderful. Doug did a great job in a very busy environment on Christmas Eve.12/24/2012 12:00:00 AMBest Sunday BrunchGD has the best Sunday brunch around. All your usual brunch fare including carved beef, salmon, chilled shrimp, omelettes made-to-order, and a dessert table to die for. Sadly, they have scaled down the impressive spread from what it was years ago, but it is still more than impressive. If you go at the holidays, not only is the place decorated festively, but they usually have a gingerbread town that includes a replica of GD complete with train that runs past it. A jazz trio provides lovely ambiance. Kids and grown-ups alike eagerly await the ring of the bell to celebrate trains as they pass. This is our go-to spot for a great meal anytime!11/25/2012 12:00:00 AM
